[Q] Can I use a Galaxy S2 charger for Galaxy S3?

It will affect the life of the battery or there is no difference between chargers?
Thank you!
Yes
But,
SGS2 charger rated @ 5V/0.7A
SGS3 charger rated @ 5V/1A
Meaning: Using the SGS2 charger with the SGS3 phone will charge at only 70% the rate > ie take longer..........
Edit: No, it will not affect the life of your battery, could even possibly extend it as the battery is affected by less heat generated.
Then I guess the same applies to using the charger of the SGS for the S III. That charger is also 0.7A.
(I'll be using it since it has a longer cord. The charger of the S III doesn't reach from the outlet to my night stand...
Just buy a longer USB cable that's all i did.
if anyone is ever stuck without their original charger i can confirm i have used my wifes old blackberry charger. my sons galaxy ace charger. and an iphone charger with micro usb cable plugged into it. all worked fine on both my s2 and now my s3. as long as it is micro usb and not crazy high amperage it should be fine.
So as long as amperage isn't too much over 1A, all is ok?

Apparently the SGS3 limits the charge rate to 1A max on AC charge.
SiyahKernel plus the extweaks app have an option to increase this limit.
Personally, I have never tried it, and don't particularly wish to.
So to answer your question, theoretically, the phone will limit the charge rate to 1A whether you're using a higher capacity charger or not. Most likely to protect the battery and charging circuit from damage.

I'm using the S1's one at the moment...same thing really, as the above poster said, might charge slower though.

This is wrong mate.
You CAN use the charger from the S2 even though it is rated 0.7A. It actually is capable of putting out more than that. You can use current widget to check this.
I have checked and on the S2 charger, the S3 draws 0.999A same as on S3 charger..
However, using it for prolonged periods will probably result in a damaged charger. I would use it only in emergency.

I never said you couldn't, just said it would take longer
My official SGS2 charger IS rated at 0.7 A (yours may be different), confirmed but not tested with a ammeter, which would be much much more accurate than any widget.
Can't borrow one from work unfortunately...

Apologies... Just read ur post again.
It won't take longer either as the S3 draws what it needs. The S2 charger will give out 1A although not sure how long it will last longterm.
I've used "current widget" and on quite a few phones now and it's pretty good. It might not be 100% accurate but it's not that far out. On my S2 the different charge modes in Siyah kernel could easily be seen in current widget. Same with my S3... Current widget reads same whether I use my new or old charger..

Is that safe? From what I get from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usb#Power , no more than 0,5A is expected to travel through a USB cable.
Is the cable we get from Samsung perhaps made for the 1A? It is quite a bit thicker than most other USB cables I have...

Yes , the device will only take what it needs.....no matter what the output amps are.
Devices are built to limits their input current.
Sometimes I use data cable from old Samsung to transfer data or charge.Still no problem.:good:
I've only ever used my S1 charger or my old S2 and now S3. Every so often I use a Nokia cable paired with my galaxy tab 10.1 charger and haven't had any problems.

Most devices won't draw more than they need. I've used anything from a 0.3A charger through to a 2A charger... in my experience the S3 doesn't charge any faster on the 2A, but it definitely charged slower on the 0.3A (perhaps because it was limited to a max output, I may have to see what this "current widget" says.
Here's the catch though, it will charge faster on a higher amperage during heavy use, than it would on a lower amperage.
how long s3 make to do full charge, i bought un old one, & after 2 hours il indicates 75% only??
I charged mine for about 2 to 3 hours.

Help Needed - No S3 Charging from Generic Charger

Hi ...
Yesterday away from home I didn't have my original S3 charger with me so I tried to charge it using a generic charger and it didn't work, so I tried with another one and that didn't work too. I tried with three different generic chargers and all didn't work so finally I had to manage an original HTC charger and that one worked so my question is whether not a single generic charger will work with S3 and only the original one will work or is there something can be done in this regard as I can't always have my original charger with me.
Thanks.
S1/S2/BlackBerry all work for me
Some generic chargers work. They do mostly say on the package so you will want to check. I have galaxy s, desire, optimus, galaxy note, xperia arc s chargers that all work on s3. Korean galaxy note don't work though..

I bought an portable charger from abker that works well, got another for charging in the car and that works fine too. But I am rooted and on a custom rom though. I think samsung has something built in to not let generic chargers work.
My gal tab don't charge on generic or through usb. Has to be from an ac source.

I use a generic charger from HAMA. It works just perfect.
It's depending on current potential
The original charger has output current of 1A, some generic charger doesn't have that much potential, so I guess that's why not working.
Some of the bad quality may charge your battery, but also will interferes your touch screen operation which means your screen would unresponsive or go crazy when you charge it...

For the screen going haywire/unresponsive (Touchscreen Electromagnetic Interference), the problem is with your charger. Low quality chargers have a lot of 'noise' and may not provide a stable current as well. Get rid of such chargers...
As for the charging itself, the quality of the USB cable has an effect as well. Low quality cables may not even be able to allow 1A of charge.
Install "Battery Monitor Widget" to monitor the charging process.
If you just want to know the charge received by the phone, just install "CurrentWidget"

[Q] why does my phone charger make noise

You're trying to draw too much current and the S2 charger is current limiting... which will make it noisy as the feed-forward converter is running outside its design limits.

its dangerous for the phone or charger? or its not that big of a deal?
Stop using the S2 charger. It is rated at ~700mA and your S3 is trying to pull 900mA.
Not a great idea.
use the charger that came with the s3
and u will be good to go
i think that if you use your s2 charger for ur s3 it will damage your battery (but i'm not completely sure about that )
I use an old HTC charger at home which seems fine. And I use the S3 charger at work. Never had a problem.
The s2 charger will not damage the phone it will output only what it is design to no matter what phone you use. That it can be consider normal and chargers do sometimes make some strange noices. My S2 charger did exactly the same noice you described. Also Samsung is not famous about its good quality chargers.

[Q] Galaxy Mega 6.3 EXTREMELY slow charging.

My wife has a 3 month old Galaxy Mega 6.3 and it will not charge correctly. It will not change when it's on enough to keep it on. Last night I had her charge it while it was off and after 12 hours it was only at 48%. We have tried new chargers, new cords, taking the battery out for a while, nothing is working. Any ideas? It's completely stock, no root.
Hi .. make sure that your chargers output power is 2.0A don't use chargers with 1.0A or 0.7A output or it will charge slowly .. and try to use a short cable ..shorter is faster .. If this didn't help maybe the problem is with the battery it self buy a new one

Yeah, we used an oem charger and cable and a charger that puts out 5v and all the same charge rate
I think 5v is too much & dangerous for the phone maybe it'll ruin your battery

Hi..the original charger for the mega 6.3 is 5v with a 2.0A charging rate, can you test another battery from a friend to see if it is the battery.
I literally have never seen anyone with a mega besides her lol. My next plan was a new battery, but I didn't think a 3 month old phone should need one yet.

Maybe go to your carrier were you got the phone and explain what has happened and maybe they can give you a new battery or if it is a hardware problem..they can maybe give you a new phone.

Hello SumCanadianGuy
To be sure to get fast charge with most Samsung smartphones, you need an original Samsung charger AND a fully connected (4 wire) USB cable.
Charger outputs 5.3 to 5.7V and pin 2 and pin 3 (data pins) are shortened together inside the charger to indicate the phone that he can draw fast charge current.
All my original Samsung wall chargers are rated only 1A. It doesn't mean that they can't output more current for a short time. I get fast charge every time.
If either your charger isn't an original with pins 2 & 3 shortened, or your cable has no data connections, you won't ever get fast charge. By example, if you try to use a powerful 2A or more iPad charger with your Mega, you won't get fast charge, just because the other world doesn't conform to USB
If you can, try an original Samsung wall charger with an original Samsung usb to micro usb cable.
Hope this helps
I have same problem with my Samsubg Galaxy Mega 6.3
I tried everything (change battery, cable, charger) but nothing help.
Charging is slow but during all night it could charge to almoat 100%
It only could be hardware failure...
If you want to see power of charging install app Galaxy Charging Current Lite.
Power of charging should be 1900 mA and I could get only 300 mA...

[Q] S3 not charging at 1000 MAH!?

I found a thread on XDA which told me to download Galaxy Charging Current to check how much MAH I get when charging my phone.. So I have tried charging the phone with the ORIGINAL S 3 charger and the current_max I get is 600 .. Should this not be some were near 900 or 1000? I had a SONY charger and USB cable I used 2 previously use to charge the S 3 which charged the phone VERY quickly however I had to sell the SONY phone so gave the Charger away as well.
I have tried using a Galaxy S 4 charger to charge the phone and I see a massive difference in the speed it charges.
Result:
Galaxy S 4 charger ..... The phone went up 4% in 2.5 - 3 minutes (Not my charger so cant keep using it)
Galaxy S 3 charger ..... The phone went up 1% in 3 minutes
Should I just buy a S 4 charger for the S 3? The charging speed is sooo much better than the original s3 charger?
Someone please reply!!
Thank You.
Should indeed be around 1000mA, but it does tail off towards the end of charging. No need to buy an S4 charger just a half decent branded wall charger rated at least 1000mA should be fine.

The reason I am saying I would buy a S 4 charger is because I have already tried it with the phone and it charges it fast. Also I heard the S 4 charger is rated at 2.0 amps therefore I am just best of buying it.. At a price of £5.45 from Ebay.. It cant go wrong than that?
1 more question... Currently I have the original battery in my S 3 .. Is it worth buying a 6000MAH battery for the S 3 and how long will it last with a little use of Facebook and You Tube?
Thank You!!

Hi,
Thank You for your reply and sorry for the late reply. I have checked the price for the GENUINE S 3 charger and it costs around £6 and the S 4 2 AMP charger cost some were around £6.19. Therefore compared to buying a 1.0 AMP I would rather buy a 2 AMP charger. I have already tried a S 4 Charger on my S 3 and it did charge the phone very quickly whereas the GENUINE S 3 charger I have takes more than a minute to do 1% which is just unacceptable. I know its not the phone as I have tried the S 4 charger and it did charge it quickly.
I am thinking to buy a bigger battery for the S 3 while I am at it as the stock 2100 MAH battery does not last that long.. On Ebay I see 6000 MAH battery's and one 7000 MAH.. Which should last a lot longer..
Thank You!!!
