Okay. So here is my dilemma. I have tried to root this phone for at least a year. But recently i was able to do it. I unlocked my phone and put a working recovery on it! 4ext! But then the problems began. I tried to install ROms like Aokp or Cm10.1 but they would load up to the startup animation then go into a boot loop. For at least 6 other roms this happened aswell. I then read up on some articles and think that maybe this is because of my hboot. It is hboot 1.5 and not many roms work with this. I tried to flash AnthraX-htcleak-rls1.zip kernel since many articles said it would fix the problem but it did not help. PLEASE Can someone help me ! I need cm10 or aokp! BTW this is a HTC evo 3d Gsm (rogers) hboot 1.5.

There are two ways that i know of from htcevohacks site to do s-off, only the wire trick worked for me. Maybe the other way can work for you. I did the wire trick once and succeed but i watched the video 2-3 times before performing it.

Even with hboot 1.50 u can get cm7. Look in the Dev section at the stickies. Theres a tutuorial to flash certain Roms with your situation.

If you are already unlocked and running Synergy, I would assume that you have read the procedure on how to flash ROMS/Kernals. Flashing CM isnt any different that I am aware of. Though I havent flashed a direct version of CM, I did flash the "secretpartymeow" ROM (which was a CM ROM) that was floating around here in late October. Look for the CM thread in the dev section, downlad it, then flash it.

Cm7 only for CDMA evo
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using XDA Premium App
don't worry about S-OFF - you can do everything *except* flash radios with S-ON.
Soon we'll all have S-OFF... but for now it's only a minor speedbump
I went through and found it but the link isnt workin ne more
When i try flashing cm7 it stays on the htc screen and dont change so i wiped and reloaded synergy idk what i did wrong and i have sprint so it should be cdma not gsm
So I was doing all the downgrade stuff..
Downgraded, got as far as the Revolutionary S-Off part, then when I was gonna update my radios I ****ed up and copied the wrong zip and flashed the first 2.11 RUU and it took me back to 1.5 locked.
I was so tired had been at it for hours so I'm like **** I'll just start again I guess this time will be easy, I bricked my phone through the method but then I read if you were already s-off that was perma brick?
I read that after I tried running the live cd tool and it wouldn't recognize the phone, please tell me my 2 week old baby isn't gone...
I do get the red dim light still idk if that matters but I can't turn it on or go into the bootloader
The last I heard if you do the downgrade with S-off your phone becomes a paper weight.
I got frustrated at what I did and was so tired I didn't re-read I just repeated the process then I read I had bricked it since it was already s-off..
is it gone?
As far as I know its gone! on the bright side you now have a nice expensive paper weight!
Sorry for your loss. Its a hard lesson learned.
Your best bet is to take it back to Sprint and tell them it stopped working, and see if they trade it in for you. I've read that a guy on this forum did that and they charged him like $35
for new device. Time to use your communication skills. I just sent mine to HTC for repair because I don't have a Sprint account, I'm using Google Voice for the moment. Just tell the Sprint rep how much you love them and their service and how you'd recommend them to family & friends and all that, they might just help you out. I'm missing my E3D already:'(

Not exactly, you can take any update you want to with s-off, and s-off will stick. I've run the 2.17 RUU with s-off and it put on hboot 1.5 locked, but since I still had s-off, I just flashed a custom recovery and then flashed hboot 1.4 without ever unlocking, the s-off overrides the lock.
I wouldn't do fastboot oem writesecureflag 3 unless I absolutely had to, like if I was selling my phone and they didn't want s-off. The op only has problems because he was s-off and then did unknowns brick method.

I am currently using 4ext (see my sig), but have enjoyed using TWRP 2.0 as well.
I'm having to come over via insurance and the 3d is what I get. I have a few questions. Is obtaining root on the 3d a difficult process, as doing it on the 4g was simple. Ive noticed that there are 2 different models. CDMA or the other one which one is the one being given out. And overall how has everyones experience been with this phone. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

If your hboot is 1.4, you can root with Revolutionary. If it's 1.5, you will have to use the hboot downgrade method, found in the stickies.

If you're on Sprint, you have the CDMA version.
It isn't hard at all, if you understand adb. You can root with revolutionary on hboot 1.4 or downgrade if you have hboot 1.5. If you dont want to downgrade try the juopunutbear tool for s-off. It work the first try for me.

You can also go to HTCDEV.COM. They are very good in helping you unlock your bootloader

Welcome bud, I also got an evo 3d through insurance. Although I think the 4g had a better camera and I miss the looks, the 3d is a lot faster and has a much better screen. I've learned to love it.
Easiest way to do things is follow the htcdev.com unlock process to unlock the bootloader. Install superuser of course, then get 4ext recovery. There is a free version but I would highly recommend getting the paid version as I think it includes the app that lets you control everything from outside recovery. This has a smart flash feature for those who're left with s-on from the HTC unlock and hboot 1.5. It will let you install kernels like you normally would through recovery.
Only problem is, with any sense 3.6 ICS Rom you will have to use chads HTC leak kernel or else you will get boot loops. However 3d and USB mount won't work but you can always mount through recovery.
If you don't want to deal with all that, you can try the wire trick method to get s-off on hboot 1.5 so you can use the stock kernel on sense 3.6. It's stickied here in development. Hope all that helps.

Don't misinform. I'm using stock HTC 3.0.16 kernel. Boots perfectly.
EDIT: Didn't read that last part. The reason people were getting boot loops, I believe, was the outdated adsp.img.

Looks like you don't have hboot 1.5 and are s-off...that's why. I was going under the assumption that every 3D is coming with hboot 1.5, and has for a while since I got mine back in november with 1.5.

The thing about the 3d is that its a way better phone than 4G. Except for camera of course. But I think all the 3d's come with S-on and H-boot 1.5. HTCDEV really helped me out. When u root, try WarmTwoPointThree ROM. Even faster loadup time and comes with beats audio
Thanks for the feedback.. Im not going to lie. I love my ole evo but the last time I dropped it Did something to the Battery. I have a 3500 ex battery that if in the phone it will shut off every 10 to 20 mins. that and the charging port is failing. At least I get another HTC.
Strange..I've obtained root via HTC unlocker, followed by installing Meanbean 3.09 which has been running great. Today I wanted to try the carbon Rom. Flashed the carbon Ron and gapps, rebooted and the phone hangs at the HTC screen..I waited several minutes before forcing a reboot which still hangs. I tried flashing with latest CM10, which gave the same results. I was able to restore my last nandroid of meanbean. Has anyone experienced this? My last evo LTE (bought on release day) did not present this problem.
I called Sprint again today(04/24/13), this time they "refreshed" from their end, my data, messaging and phone connections. This fixed the sms issue. Hope this helps someone.

A lot of members are confused about the difference between unlocked and S-OFF I'm not trying to sound like an a$$ but I have seen to many members tell me I'm S-Off only to find out they were not they thought unlocking the bootloader made them S-OFF. As you stated it's a factory replacement that's why I'm saying this.
Unlocked = HtcDev
S-OFF = DirtyRacun or FacePalm
No worries..I ran the dirt racuun last night successfully...well other than the broken sms issue.

You might need to call Sprint and have them re-provision your phone it is a side effect of going s-off on some devices
I spoke with Sprint last night, went thru a couple troubleshooting steps. I mentioned to them that I tried the ##72786# to no avail. Theyre were unable to help me. I might tri to call back and speak with a different CSO

It's 1:22am now, I've been working on my brother's EVO 3D for the past 4 hours, i'm tired, i'm sleepy, and i'm angry.
I've rooted and S-OFFed several HTC Desire Zs and HTC Desires, I've rooted two HTC One Xs, a Nexus 4, and an EVO 3D.
My brother is now on Cobra ROM (or something) running ICS, he wants JB on his phone, and to do that, all ROMs require S-OFF and the older 1.49 bootloader
I've tried every way on earth to downgrade from 1.52 (i think) to 1.49 to S-OFF and every methode i try, HTC puts a wall in front of me.
So please answer this clearly: is there any way i can run an AOSP JB ROM on the HTC EVO 3D without bricking/hotwiring the phone?
EDIT: I'll try the wire trick tomorrow to see how that works.

Ive had the same issues with my phone!! Im a newbie and dont have near as much experience as you do, but ive discovered that the seemingly possible solution is to continue on with the wire trick so you can be s-off and downgrade the hboot, which 2 whole processes within themselves.
Hope i could help any
about the wire trick, that HTC EVO 3D doesn't have those two holes, and doesn't have the sdcard above the battery, it's under the sim card... any way to make it work that way?
