I just purchased Foxfi application. It works fine for WiFi tether but it cost $7.95 for the full release. It used to be free. Worth the price as I spent the last 2 hours on my laptop with free tether!

Except that there are also free apps that work.
I am using ES File Explorer (not rooted) for tether. I imagine most of tethering apps will work just fine.

I surprised these Apps can work without root access. I am going to remove my hotspot subscription and try this.

Strangely enough I installed wireless tether from the play store (been around since the days of the G1 and the Nex One).
It ran fine the first time. Last night it wouldn't correctly start. After going into the settings and manually starting the tethering from the actual setup menu, it skipped the subscription check and started tethering. Weird. Anyone else?
This doesnt work for me. It does enable the hot spot but when ever my table connects, it keeps dropping the 4g connection and my tablet will not get on the internet.

OK UPDATE2: The other one works fine now. I had an app that I used on my Droid Bionic called Wifi Tether and that was what I was trying to use before and it wouldnt work at all. I uninstalled that and rebooted and now the original works just fine.

I normally don't report on apps, but this one I have to because it is awesome.
In addition to my new Photon I also have a Sony S tablet and been looking at WiFi tethering, but disappointed at the cost from Sprint.
In doing my research I found this app that allows free WiFi Tethering.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foxfi&hl=en
I immediately downloaded the app and it works easily and perfectly.

Gonna give this a try, thanks

Thank you so much for sharing this information! I'm using it right now! My tablets were fine using bluetooth connection but when on the road having to use the usb tether (easytether) for my laptop was such a nuisance.
I tried a another workaround discussed on youtube and it worked for the initial connection but would not connect again, registration blocked. I've had foxfi going for about two hours now, turned it off and on six times and its perfect!
Thanks again!!
Is anyone getting this to work with 4g? Whenever I turn on Foxfi, 4g disconnects and switches over to 3g.

Man I wish it would last ten minutes for me. Maybe more like ten seconds. And I have the paid version and uninstalled reinstalled multiple times.
So my buddy just got this phone and he's saying foxfi no longer works for him(from what I've read this seems to be accurate).
He's on an unlimited plan with Verizon and he's wanting me to root his phone tonight so he can get a hotspot app... Before I root it i wanted to make sure 1. That there isn't any hotspot apps that work with the DNA without rooting and 2. I wanted to make sure there are some hotspot apps that work after root. I've been researching and it sounds like most people are saying you're sol unless you go to a share every thing plan through Verizon.
Thanks for the info!
I want to know exactly the same thing. I need internet for my tablet. I'd rather not root, but I will if something works for sure after that.

I am not rooted. 100% stock. I have not unlocked this phone. I unlocked my first one and then it died several days later of a hardware failure and so I am waiting this time to make sure this new device is solid.
All I do is go to settings>more>Mobile Network Sharing>Turn on Mobile Hotspot. I setup the wifi there and then connect with my tablet.
Perhaps its because i am on the Share Everything Plan?

Yeap play store, search wifi tether by Muller Lemons and Buxton https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether&hl=en
If you tried this and didn't work, it's because of the settings. Also, make sure with titanium backup you delete TetheringGuard.apk and mobile hotspot, they're both system apps. If you're not using titanium backup the system file for mobile hotspot is wifirouter.apk or something like that.
Download the app and before you ever even try it, get your settings configured. You press the menu button when you're at the apps home screen to get to settings. Set device profile to HTC Rezound CDMA/LTE
Change setup method to Netd NDC Master
Check to Enable Routing fix
Be sure to grant root access. Don't enable wifi encryption until after you've set it up and run some tests without encryption. That way you'll know where the problem lies if you have one, but it should be just fine. I may post another link to something I'm testing now.

I am currently stuck on the update without root like many.. but the main reason I root is for tether for my unlimited account.. I downloaded and paid for foxfi (now also pdanet) and it obviously didn't work a few weeks back.. however a new update today and the wifi hotspot works.. creates a vpn to work, but I am currently on it now.. update says for the maxx hd and others doesn't list the dna but I can confirm it works.. maybe worth the 5 bucks to someone here. Great news. Finally! I'll try it.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
I have the DNA, and an unlimited plan. By default, when you try to tether up it will tell you to call your carrier to subscribe. You can do it, but you need to be rooted. If you are rooted then install the Android Wifi Tether app from here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether
Once you run the app use the following settings:
Device-Profile: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
Setup-Method: Auto
Enable "WiFi-driver reload"
Enable "Routing fix"
This should get you up and going.
But we're not rooted. This is "tether without root" discussion. If you're rooted, sure, you can use wifi tether no problem. The problem is to tether without root.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app

Which can mean what ever they want it to really, but also you have the unlimited data to do as you please as long as

So I really don't know on this topic.
