Hi there,
I'm using Gingerreal 2.0 as my first custom rom. It's really fast compared to stock and I like it very much.
I have one problem though: I've installed Alarm Clock Plus from the market but it doesn't seem to work. My alarm simply doesn't ring.
I didn't install the package with Samsung apps as I don't want all that crap. Should I install only the Samsung clock apk's? And if so, which ones should I install? (I see multiple apk's that seem to relate to clock/alarms)
Anyone can help me with this issue?
Thanks
Hi, I think I installed clockwidget.apk, deskclock.apk. Note though that it could also be a problem of DRM media drivers without which media fails to play or crashes, you need to copy drmprovider.apk, drmua.apk and sisodrmprovider.apk.
I also found I needed to install picotts.apk and ttsservice.apk as text-to-speech would always crash (and some 3rd party apps use it, thus they fail too).
You can just leave those apks and modify the zip of samsung apps and install those and see how it all works. I have working alarms, tts, and media playing on top of a very stable and fast ROM...
Can you give me more details on how to do that? I removed every apk from the zip file except the ones you mentioned. Then I tried to flash the zip with 'install zip from sdcard' but it ends up with installation aborted...
If you go to the gingerreal forum and search for the post by shinoxan on the 3rd page of the GR 2.0 thread, he posts a zip to fix the DRM problems; I used his zip and added the apks there. You could also try copying the apks directly using a rooted superuser shell...
His zip was hosted at megaupload, so I can't download that one. He mentioned to mount /system before flashing. I didn't mount /system yesterday so that might be the cause that it didn't work. I will try it tonight while /system is mounted.
Yes, I think that should fix it. PM me and i can send you a zip i used to update my TTS apps.
The packages from iandol worked ! Got my alarm back
Lets try to post the links:
Here is the mod I made for stopping TTS crashing with the clock and deskclock widgets, see if it works for you:

The following Apk i have tested to work with ICS Arconium v7
Note: always backup your apk before replacing them in system.(just in case something goes wrong you can revert back the original apk.)
Apk for:
1.) Facebook inside xperia
2.) Social pane (timescape)
a. Feed
b. Friends
c. Share
3.) default keyboard for Xperia S
Just copy apk to system /app, change permission and reboot. Open widget then select timescape feed, friends and share.
edit : reuploaded apks as there was an error in infinite view. ok now
None of these are working for me. The keyboard crashes as soon as I hit any key and the timescape widget does not show up in the widget list.
Yes, I am using Arconium ICS v7, I set the right permissions and I rebooted the device.
I can add the widgets but when I open Timescape to configure it, it crashes. I've cleared the data, etc. but no go.
Can you make a cwm zip instead, I think it'd be easiest for ppl to install cause some ppl already messed up -__-
This even ****ed up my data-partition. Re-installing the system and deleting cache/dalvik didn't help to get the keyboard working again. I had to restore a backup.
I will reinstall my system now and do a factory reset. Then I will try this again. Maybe my data partition was corrupted in the first place.
EDIT: Keyboard works now, thanks for this. Now trying Timescape.
EDIT: Got Timescape to work. At first it looked like all is working nicely, but unfortunately there is another error: When trying to view the details of any contact of the phonebook, the phonebook-app crashes.
I am pretty sure it's not my fault this time, because I tried it with a clean install of Arconium with all user data wiped.
You have to delete two files associated with timescape in the original rom then apply the timescape file attache. Check if it works

And I just delete two files for timescape and manually copy to system / app all the files and change permission. Make sure to activate in settings/xperia (facebook inside xperia)

Xperia s home apk is not suitable for ics in that the ics based launcher can resize the widget if the widget supports it. So in order to give you the closest experience to xs home apk, I have modded ics home.apk from ics official build to implement the themes and mirror effect. Off course you can get that from my 10in1 mod.

Resurrection Remix ics v2.3 - Google Maps Issue
Hi,
I have been following the posts on the Resurrection Remix ics v2.3 main development thread and the suggested steps don't quite work for me.
1. Using Root Explorer.
-Copy Maps and StreetView from System/App to Data/App
-Reboot device
-Access Play Store and attempt update which will fail
-Perform uninstall and reboot
-Install both apps from Play Store
*This did not work. Error: Incompatible...*
2. Using Titanium Backup
-Uninstall Maps and StreetView from System/App
-Reboot device
-Access Play Store and install both apps
*Same error msg*
I tried to Wipe Delvik Cache and Fix Permissions when attempting a second round of the above but did not resolve the issue. In all attempts, I did the FAQ Guide on Installing the ROM.
It seems these steps works for others but unfortunately not me. Hopefully someone could advise me further and any other information needed.
Thank you!

1) r u on stock 240dpi, and still the issue then delete data/cache of the map app from manage apps and check updating, still issue persists then simply reflash the rom without any wipes
2) if ur on dpi other than stock 240 then try cahnging the dpi first to stock 240 then update market if it goes fine then rewert back to ur earlier dpi
Hi Sun90,
I did the steps you suggested and sadly it does not work but on a good note, a new version has been released and a fix is indicated.
I'll try that update and will check it out. Thank you for the assist.

I have a an LG G3 VS985 Verizon, rooted and stock. I am having this bug too. I have MOD EDIT Mention of warez or other apps that circumnavigate payment for paid features in apps is strictly prohibited, please check your PMs and there isn't a troubleshooting place that allows to remove fixes and backups. And if I am supposed to do #2 below what odex do I delete. All of them or a singular one?
The 2nd option has been attempted and no go...
The default is auto for SD card like always.
Any OTHER ideas that have been talked about ad nauseam?
What I do is revert app2sd in rom toolbox install location to 'auto'. This fixes the problem.
2nd step is i manually go to root/data/app/ to find and delete the .odex file. (optional - MOD EDIT Mention of warez or other apps that circumnavigate payment for paid features in apps is strictly prohibited, please check your PMsdid this automatically)
3rd step is reboot to recovery, wipe cache and dalvik-cache, fix permission and reboot. (may work but not guaranteed)
4th step use android commander to push app via adb. download from (http://androidcommander.com/) (credits to PanPiotr)
If all above step not working the only option is factory reset.

If you have the root, you can also delete the browser app and the launcher without any problems
If someone updates to Miui v7 will face system advertisements in miui Music and some others apps. it is quite annoying
You are save to remove it. Follow this guide: http://en.miui.com/thread-190513-1-1.html
It is safe to remove SystemAdSolution.apk file, clear cache. Reboot
Now, no more advertisement in miui music
I don't know why xiaomi try to push global users with the force to see their advertisements. May be they can earn something from that way. ?!
Analytics and MIUI SDK
You can also remove com.miui.analytics. It's also useless. The system Calculator app is also useless and has very less features. You can use another app instead. You can freeze MIUI SDK too if it has too much data. But DO NOT uninstall Miui SDK.
If you have a root browser, you can simply delete the /data/miui/app folder to get more space in internal memory. Don't worry as it has just the apks of pre-installed apps, not their data. Deleting them will not even uninstall those apps as their apks are in /data/app folder too.

I don't know much about the MIUI China ROM. I am using the Global ROM. After updating to this ROM, I uninstalled the following apps using Link2SD. Then using ES File Explorer, I removed the .odex files of uninstalled apps. Then rebooted to recovery, and just cleaned the /cache partition.
Assuming, that you are also not using Mi account, this is the list of apps I have removed (uninstalled) which were in my /system/app folder :-
*Analytics (AnalyticsCore.apk) - can be removed or you can disable the WakeupService.
*ANTHalService - (used for fitness accessories)
*Basic daydreams (BasicDreams.apk)
*BugReport - optional (keep it otherwise, you can't see the summary if any app stops unexpectedly)
*Calculator
*Mi Cloud (CloudService.apk)
*Email
*Black Hole (Galaxy4.apk) - live wallpaper
*Holo Spiral - live wallpaper
*Android Live Wallpaper (LiveWallpapers.apk)
*Magic Smoke - live wallpaper
*Uniplay service (MiLinkService.apk) - maybe required for Wi-Fi display connection
*Noise Field - live wallpaper
*Phase Beam - live wallpaper
*Photo screensavers (PhotoTable.apk)
*PicoTTS - text to speech engine
*Battery Saver (PowerKeeper.apk)
*Security Service Plugin (SecurityAdd.apk)
*SystemAdSolution
*XiaomiAccount (IMPORTANT: This app is required when Android boots for the first time. So if you have removed/disabled this app after you have finished setting up Android for the first time, do not factory reset or erase /data till this app is installed again.)
*Xiaomi Services Framework - DO NOT REMOVE (otherwise Phone app gets stuck in crash-loop)
/system/priv-app removed apps :-
*Cloud Backup (for apps backup to Mi account)
*Find Device - required by Mi account app (same instructions are applicable as for XiaomiAccount app above )
*mipub - purpose is unknown, removed it
*YellowPage - DO NOT REMOVE (otherwise you cannot open contact details in Contacts and Dialer app)
It is recommended that you flash the update as-it-is, then uninstall apps using Link2SD, then clean up the dalvik-cache from Link2SD and reboot phone. Then you can also delete .odex files of removed apps in /system/app and /system/priv-app folder using ES File Explorer and also delete /data/miui/app folder.
If you have some other apps in China ROM, please give the list of installed system apps and system priv-apps.

Thanks for your valuable response, I will try it for sure. You told "it is recommended to flash update as-it-is" which update? Do I need to flash something before doing it.
Please verify the steps I have to perform-
1. Using link2sd Uninstall listed apps
2. Then go to system/app in es Explorer and delete. odex file of uninstalled apps
3. Clear cache and dalvik cache by link2sd.
4. Clear Cache and dalvik cache in recovery and reboot.
I need to sign off MI account if I am using before performing these steps.
Correct me if any step I missed or messed..

No. You have gone a bit wrong.
"By 'update flashing', I meant the ROM update.zip file as it is available for download from the MI website without any apk file deleted. I just mentioned it because you said that you already tried deleting apks from the update before flashing."
The jist of the above quoted text is that : You need to have the untampered ROM to be installed on the device, that is, one in which no system APK has been removed or no system app has been uninstalled.
If you have already signed up for an Mi Account and want it to be active on your device, you must not remove the following apps.
Mi Cloud (CloudService.apk)
Mi Account (XiaomiAccount.apk)
Find device
Cloud backup - Removal of CloudBackup will stop apps from being backed up to Mi Cloud
After clearing dalvik-cache in Link2SD, you just have to clear cache in recovery, NOT the dalvik-cache again.
Aren't you using this latest MIUI China ROM?

Mi Cloud (CloudService.apk)
Mi Account (XiaomiAccount.apk)
Find device
Cloud backup - Removal of CloudBackup will stop apps from being backed up to Mi Cloud
After clearing dalvik-cache in Link2SD, you just have to clear cache in recovery, NOT the dalvik-cache again.
Aren't you using this latest MIUI China ROM?

I haven't tried MIUI 8. But maybe I can help. Check all these things :-
1. Delete unwanted apks from /system/app and /system/priv-app along with the .odex files.
2. See if any unwanted apks are also present in /data/app. Some Xiaomi and Google apps are also located in /data/miui/app which are installed after selecting phone locale. However you can delete this folder before to prevent the unwanted installation.
3. DON'T delete *XiaomiAccount.apk otherwise you can't complete phone setup.
4. When phone boots for the first time after flashing ROM, don't provide internet access. First complete the setup and check if any removed apps are installed again and then connect to internet to add accounts, .etc. because I had once noticed that missing apps are automatically downloaded and installed in the background by some hidden app in the system.
If above steps don't work, I have another tough method.
