[Q] Downgrading from JB with "without flashing unsecure kernel " method - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have once rooted my stock ICS S2 with this method:ROOT/UNROOT Stock ICS Firmware without flashing unsecure kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719, now i have updated OTA my S2 to stock JB 4.1.2, but I am having lots of problems since last week JB oficial update, e.g.: battery drains super fast, camera freezes, default programs dont stick, etc, etc.
My question is: can I downgrade/flash back to stock 4.0.3 via the CWM ? ( every time I need to enter CWM I need to run CWM.zip on the Recovery Mode).
Thanks.

Via CWN no...but with Odin yes.Search on XDA,there are a lot of guides how to

Actually, you can flash an ICS ROM via CWM.
Which app are giving you issues on JB?

Hi, sorry for having disapeared, but the problem is now fixed, i downgraded from 4.1.2 via normal method, download mode, samfirmware stock firmware for my country, Odin, fingers crossed, reboot, OMG the S2 dont bypass samsung logo, shutdown and rebbot to recovery mode, wipe data/factory reset, finished ok, reboot, auto installing Googleapps, et voila back to 4.0.4.
The problem was that I live in Luxembourg and (still dont know why) I received an FOTA update from Bulgaria.
And one of the problems was e.g. everytime i opened a camera app the entire S2 frozen nothing worked I had to take off battery and reboot.
Thanks for your help.

can't mount in recovery and kernel panics

Hello,
Today I thought, let's try out ICS! Found this guide (can't post outer links, search for "android advices ICS Android 4.0.1 XXKP2 " in google), and used it to update my phone to ICS.
Well, after trying out the rom, I would like to go back to my MIUI backup, rooted it, installed clockworkmod recovery and booted up the recovery mode. The recovery said "can't mount /cache/*" for all cache folders. So I couldn't restore my backup.
After reading some stuff I installed a recovery through Odin. Worked like a charm, no alerts of mounting failures. Restored my backup, but when it was rebooting it gave an "Kernel Panic - Upload mode" screen. Couldn't do anything, so put the battery out and back in.
After this I installed ICS again with the same steps as in the guide. This worked! Rooted and installed recovery again, no problems so far. Tried a fresh install of MIUI but with the same problems.
So I can flash ICS but I can't flash any other rom, what can be the problem?
Every help and tips are welcome!
Thanks in advance!
Same thing happened to me last nite, kernel panic, and im panic too. This happened after flashing that cm9 coz i just wanna try and see how cm9 look like and i know im not going to stick with it, just for trying. Now im back to miui.
What i did is i flashed back to stock rom, root, then flash miui, or any rom that you want. Very simple.
Rom : MIUI ICS XGT 'EXTENDED'
Kernel : Xcell-69X
Modem : XXKP8
Sent from Galaxy SII
I have the same problem I guess, tried ICS, went back to stock which I was using. Got Kernel panic upload mode several times, solution for this was flashing an older 2.3.6 version.
After this no more kernel panics...
But I can't flash any custom roms anymore.
My phone's working luckily but it doesn't work like it's supposed to

Thats not true my friend, you flash any custom rom. Nothing need to worry about.
Rom : samsung stock firmware
Kernel : stock kernel
Modem : stock modem

Did you make sure to flash back the old GB bootloaders? Restoring a backup wont flash them back.

[Q] Problem with ICS OFFICIAL rooted with CF-Kernel

I am getting alot of force closes after i rooted my galaxy s2 XLPQ with CF root kernel...(a compatible one)
as well as when i use wifi with my charger plugged in the phone gets really hot...
i installed spiderman (gameloft) yesterday and its not working too...it hangs just after playing for one minute....
There are someother Rooted kernels available on the XDA...like Siyah..
Try them, if problem still remains, that is not CF-root problem. some other settings on your ROM
Is it just that you did or you also updated to ics from GB. If yes wipe
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
I had the same problems with ICS after rooting with CF-Root. That's why I decided to root it without CF-Root. Now, there are no insecure kernels available for ICS yet, so u will have to root it a bit differently.
First of all, get the latest ICS as per your country, if u are in UK, then I would suggest that you get
I9100XWLP7 ICS 4.0.3 (Official UK SIM Free Release, upgradable via Kies)
obviously reset wipe etc..
After that download
CWM Manager and SuperUser Installer package
Copy both the zip files to your External SD Card
Power off your phone and start it in standard recovery mode.
Select apply update from external storage
Select Choose CWM.zip and wait for CWM to load
Once CWM is loaded, Select install zip from internal SD
Then you will see a list of files and folder, Select SU-Installer-signed.zip
This will root your phone and install the SuperUser App.
Once done, reeboot your phone and that it, your phone is rooted.
This will give you permanent root access. The root will stay even after resetting the phone via recovery mode or from the OS itself. This method doesn't install any insecure kernel, so you will not get the infamous yellow triangle neither it will effect the custom binary counter. This root method keeps your phone as close to stock as possible. You will still have your stock recovery, i.e. it will not be replaced by CWM, unlike when you use CF-Root.
So if you have to give your phone for a repair, you can simply unroot by same method, though this time instead of using SU-Installer-Signed.zip, you use SU-Uninstaller-Signed.zip
Hope this helps..
PS: If you wanna reset your custom binary counter without using any patches or using an old bootloader, then flash your phone to an older firmware.
I9100XWKE7 Gingerbread 2.3.3 (Official UK SIM Free Release, upgradable via Kies)
After flashing, use a USB Jig to reset the counter, upgrade to 4.0.3 using the link above or via Kies and follow the step above to root etc.
Cheers

[Q] Since I went to CM9 I can't flash other ICS Kernels?

Hello,
I upgraded to CM9 ICS 4.0.4, and it works,
but I like to just go back to ICS Stock 4.0.3 and is not working.
it freezes on boot, and just stays like that
can anyone Please Help
thanks
tried different roms after I flashed to CM9
and it just freezes in the bootloader
please help
Have you flashed the stock firmware using odin
When you are trying to flash new roms what is the process you are carring out.
Going back to stock after cm9, format data system cache, flash stock using Odin.
Had the same. Odin helped me a lot. I used Siyah for it

[Q] Won't get past boot!

So I've been on CM9 since October, everything has been all well and good! Today I decided I wanted to flash a unbranded GS2 ICS ROM onto my phone so I could then update via KIES to the new JellyBean one. But now my phone will not go past the boot logo since I flashed I9100XWLPT via ODIN in the PDA section just as the guide told me. The boot logo moves but will not go past it. I have flashed a new kernel, I then tried Syiah Kernel. Now I've reflashed Cyanogen mod 9 via CWM and it is doing the same thing. The boot animation just moves forever. Can anyone help?
yes flash jb straight up.
Sent from the little guy
Wipe data/cache and dalvik-cache then re-flash a JB ROM (since you want to use Jelly bean) via Odin. You can get JB Roms from here
I've wiped all caches then flashed the JB SII ROM and still the same problem, it boots up to the samsung logo then just replays it over and over again without getting into the phone
And factory reset does nothing?
Flash this. See how you do.
PS: Flash only CODE, PHONE and CSC.

[Q] S2 i9100 Restarts frequently @boot logo after Official 4.1.2 Jellybean install

Hello mates, Am no newbie to flashing ROMs but this is somehow disturbing! I updated my friends Galaxy S2 i9100 from stock 2.3.3 to 4.2.2 Paranoid Rom. The Rom was too buggy wth missing menus&crashes&finally stuck at bootloop, no safe mode, unable to enter recovery. So I decided to flash official 4.1.2 Jellybean 19100ZSMSA Odin flash was finished successfuly with no errors but after reboot the device reaches the sumsung logo&keeps rebooting frequently. Tried flashing official i9100VJMS3 4.1.2 jellybean but same results even with autoreboot unchecked. Wiping cache&factory reset doesn't help either. Am not too sure that USB debugging was enabled. I can't restore from a 2.3.3 backup i had made since previous cwm got wiped. Could this result from incompatible kernel? Kindly help out
UPDATE:
I identified the problem in recovery. " e: failed to mount /efs (Invalid argument) "
A broken efs partition was preventing the ROM from loading up. No ROM flash/kernel/CWM jigs would solve this issue. I had to repair this partition as a last resort.
Will post Solution details in a few. A long process but it worked Wonders!!!. Thanks

Try to install a custom recovery like philz touch recovery. Than after you did that, install CM11 from here: http://get.cm/get/le1
It will work like a charm
Philz Touch from here: http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/i9100/philz_touch_6.48.4-i9100.tar.md5
Flash it in odin
Giving this a shot
Thanks Tkkg for quick reply. I was considering flashing philZ CWM as well&see if I can restore the 2.3.3 backup&then reflash the official 4.1.2 jelly bean update as my friend still prefers to remain stock after that bad experience with Paranoid ROM. Was looking for a compatible PhilZ CWM stock kernel for the jellybean ROM i installed above but if this one works that will be helpful. Will report if this works
