[Q] gmail official app - force sender's display name - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm switching from k9 to gmail app and I'm finding annoying the sender's display name: why cannot show sender's name as in MY addressbook instead of custom display name set by the sender itself? Is there a way to do this?
tnx

Grouping SMS messages from Google

I use SMS reminders in Google calendar. For some reason default Hero messages application does not group these messages under one name as it does for other contacts so I have pretty lengthly list of Google reminders in my inbox.
I tried adding dummy Google contact but it did help. Maybe I should have add telephone number to it but there is no sender number in message details.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
I had a similar problem, because each reminder message is from a unique number (the proper shortcode followed by a sequence number), so that Google's system can identify individual messages (and replies when applicable). I never did figure out a way to get them to group, but I did find a work around. I switched my notification types from SMS to Pop-up (in my GCal settings, online). If you have notifications turned on in your phone's calendar, then the calendar app on your phone will alert you (similar to the way the alarm does) rather than getting a text message. The other advantage to this, at least in my opinion, is that if I don't notice it right away, it'll snooze and pop up again in a few minutes, unlike a text message, which is a one shot thing.

Contacts Not Showing up

I have some contacts on my phone with Multiple numbers and they are not coming up when i type their name in any text message app that i download. They only show up when i use the Native messenger app that is default. I have to go to their contact in the contact list in order to send them a text. whats the issue and how can i fix it?

Different default number for Call and SMS

Hi there,.,
I have a contact with two numbers, as following:
Code:
Contact name: EXAMPLE
Number 1: 111
Number 2: 222
I'd like to:
1) make the default call number: Number 1
2) make the default sms number: Number 2
I already made the default call number "Number 1", but where can I set up the default sms number setting? If it is even possible?
Btw, my Xperia X10 Mini is on MiniCM7-2.1.6.
are you using a specific app for texting?
most apps out there are set up as blocks of conversation anyways so you don't really need to put the number to whom you're texting to

Click to collapse
I use the stock "messaging" app when I turn on the phone because I need to mark all messages as "read".
The rest of the time I use Handcent SMS,.,
Btw, do you maybe know how to set up Handcent SMS to automaticaly mark messages I read (in Handcent app, or pop-up notification, anyway) as "read" in the stock app also, because I don't want to manually mark all messages as read after every reboot
The thing i didn't mention is:
I created a shortcut of that contact on "desktop", so when I press on it, a pop-up balloon shows up with 3 options:
1) phone call
2) open contact
3) send sms
when I press on "CALL", it calls the default number,.,
I'd like to set it up so that when I press the "SMS" button it uses the other number,., I hope this clarified my question

[Q] Which mail app can swipe a message from notification panel to mark it as read ?

Hi,
I am searching for a good mail app.
I am receiving many emails from different accounts (approx 6 different accounts) and I would like to have a way to read the emails from the notification panel and have the ability to mark them as "read" or "delete" directly from this notification panel.
And, in the mail app, the best will be with a consolidated view for unread messages.
I don't want an application that "proxifies" our data (man in the middle; and they have the password of our mailbox).
Which mail app do you use ?
Thank you

[Q] sms app showing mobile/work contact number information

Hi
when using my sms app, I am looking for a way to display which phone number of my contact is used (mobile, work, home, ...)
The only thing showed is the contact name and his phone number.
With all the sms apps I've tried (stock, hangouts, hello sms, 8sms, evolvesms, chomp, handcent), I didn't find a way to display this information. I always have to do an extra action (clik on contact photo, or title bar) to check if the phone number concerned is 'work' or 'mobile'.
Does someone know a tip or a new app to show this info ?
Thanks!
if anybody has an idea of a workaround to display the phone number type in the sms app (stock or any other), I would be very grateful.
I must not be the only one who needs to see in the sms app thread if i am writing to the mobile or work phone number of a contact ...
