[Q] Where can I find a flashable DXLJ2 baseband/modem? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

goo.im/devs/h0tw1r3/GT-N7005/GT-N7005-IMM76D-DXLJ2-Baseband
This is probably the closest I've found, but as far as I know, flashable modem zipz are supposed to have 2 more files, mainly:
1. META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary
2. META-INF/com/google/android/update-script
I know next to nothing about these files and their uses. I've also taken a look at the update-script file, my guess is that it's whatever's shown in recovery display when you flash it.
Where can I find a flashable DXLJ2 modem for the Note N7005/SGH-i717?
I've tried other modems such as UCMD3, UCLF6, etc., they drop connections often in where I live, the only one which worked out okay for me was DXLJ1, so I decided to try and get the DXLJ2 modem to test it out, but can't find it.
I'm planning on using this in the Padawan JB rom as the default modem that came with that custom ROM did not work for me.
I've also noticed that there are some ROMs which make use of the DXLJ2 modem, but I know nothing about development or how modems are incorporated into ROMs.
tl;dr - I'd like a flashable DXLJ2 modem zip if possible, thanks!

Did you try Google? Probably not because I found a few links to other sites in seconds.

I have, I'm guessing I must be using wrong keywords since I tried "DXLJ2 Modem Baseband download xda android" numerous times on Google and have only managed to find ROMs which use that baseband, but not as a flashable ZIP by itself.
I always Google before asking questions, and only ask when I have trouble finding something.
Probably seems dumb since some people can find it easier than me, but like I said, I've tried and failed, which is why I'm asking here.

why not just download the stock n7005 .tar and extract the modem.bin and flash with odin. sometimes less is more(keywords). n7005 dxlj2 and extract modem.bin. you will find what you need on first page of each of these searches.

Hey thanks for the reply, much appreciated!
Just to confirm though, is modem.bin supposed to be in the root directory of the tar? I don't see such a file, only:
-amss.bin
-mdm.bin
(These 2 files also appeared in the link in the first post.)
along with the boot image (boot.img), recovery image (recovery.img) and 2 EXT4 filesystem partitions/files (cache.img.ext4 & system.img.ext4)

here is link to a flashable zip of ucmd3 modem. http://storagecow.eu/index.php?dir=Xda/AT&T+Note+1/Stock+Jelly+Bean/ replace the files in tmp folder with both files you got from tar and you should have a recovery flashable dxlj2 zip.

Thanks, I'll do that when I can! (My phone isn't with me right now)
I'd just like to know if the same META-INF folder can be used for other other modems as well, for the same device (N7005/I717) and for totally different devices as well (N7000, GS3, etc.)
What does the update-binary (in META-INF) actually do?
Also why is there no modem.bin, just mdm.bin?
I apologise for the questions, I'd just like to learn more if possible. I can probably get it to work already but I'd like to know a bit more and save myself some trouble in the future.

[Q] Startup problem

I just flashed UHLB2 from Intratech's thread.
My phone downloaded the file fine, and Odin had a green 'PASS!' in the top left corner. I think it installed OK as well as I saw the word 'Sucessfully (something)' just before it rebooted.
But now trying to turn it on, the phone is in a perpetual state of starting up. It just replays the starting animation over and over again.
What is wrong?
Also, I noticed the file I downloaded was ~286MB, as opposed to ~333MB in the file from sammobile. Intratech's file was .7zip, and sammobile's was just .zip.

I'm just speculating... I don't think 7zip files are compatible with Odin. That's probably your problem. The 7zip file from Intratech will contain compatible zip files. You can extract it using the program 7zip(freeware) which I'd highly recommend for general use anyway.

Yeah I do unzip the files with 7zip, after which it is a .md5 file.
And I've flashed many times before using that method so I don't think it's that. Thanks anyway.
.7zip file is not supported by Odin.
You need to extract that .7zip file, you will get .zip file that supported by Odin.
I think the downloaded file you used is incomplete. Most of the file sizes downloaded are around 350MB or higher. Recommend you re-download the file again or even an older release and re-flash the phone.

Just rename .md5 to .zip file.

No. Odin can flash .md5 so you should leave it. md5 files actually help because Odin can check the md5 hash and stop if the file is corrupt/incomplete.
But you have to extract it from 7z because it can't flash that.
Sounds like you've got an incomplete file if the file size is less than what you'd expect. Re-download and try flash again.
Also, to those saying extract the 7zip file; I'm pretty sure OP said he had done that before flashing and had used the .md5 file. Unless I'm reading his posts wrong, in which case, yes unzip the 7zip file and flash the .md5.

Hm..
I've downloaded and flashed again, but I have the same problem. The new file was bigger than the original one, so the original was probably incomplete. But the file has been at about 274MB for about 6 hours now on Intratech's post. I guess I'll just have to stick to LA4 for now then.

[Q] Converting a .zip ROM into .tar to flash with Odin

I was asking if there's any way to convert a .zip ROM into a .tar ROM to flash with Odin..
The reason why I'm asking this is because I'm unable to flash any ROM via CWM recovery. I can only flash ROMs via Odin. Please see this for further information to my problem.
I'm particularly fond of the MIUI ROM, but there's no Odin version of that.. and CWM doesn't work for me

This is the installation instructions from adys miui rom which i usually use...not sure if you do this already but this usually works for me (wipe cache n devlik aswell)
1. Copy Zip to SDCard.k
2. Reboot to Recovery.
3. Wipe data/factory Reset.
4. Wipe /system from Mounts and Storage.
5. Install *your Rom* zip from SDCard.
6. Reboot (First boot may take time due to alot of init.d scripting)

Tried it, converted a kernel .zip file to.tar for Note 2 and it blue-screened Win7 during .tar installation. No damage to PC or phone, but DAYUM!

I don't think direct conversion like that will ever work, just ask the related developer to generate a tar file for you, ask one of the most helpful devs like salesale(NeatRom creator) or the dev of RevoltRom.

Why?
You'd need to write a script that specifies what files get flashed to where & create your own flashable zip. Or you could swap the files from the tar into an existing CWM flashable I guess; not sure if this will work tho, the script may be specific to those particular files & might not work with different ones (I'm not au fait with these scripts, hence not being sure). I personally wouldn't try this tho, just flash the tar in Odin already.
The last sentence says it all

That's easy (well can cause catastrophe if handled without proper knowledge) just use android kitchen.
Edit :Seriously though must be very careful, I used it to deodex JB firmware for my tab 7 plus (it doesn't have any proper developer support so had to do it manually) and I had a plethora of minor bug's popping up, insignificant but annoying nonetheless, quite frankly must be ready to spend hours for proper tweaking and understanding framework to build a good flashable zip, I didn't have the patience nor the time.

Could I make one for you ? Absolutely not.
I don't sit around all day doing nothing just waiting for n00bs to give me stuff to do for them. If you really want to make one, you'll work out how to do it for yourself. Or you won't *shrugs*

ROMs dont have an update.zip

Hey Guys,
I'm in need of some really n00b friendly advice.
When you flash a new ROM (i.e. CM9) in CWM the tutorials tell you to flash the file named Update.zip. My problem is that I can't seem to find one in the zip file I downloaded for my xperia mini.
I downloaded FXP131, and found the zip file to contain a boot.img, which will be the kernel. And 2 other folders named META-INF and System.
I know how to flash the kernel and expect it was just left in there for easy transportation.
But where in the world is 'update.zip'?
Am I meant to unpackage the kernel then re-zip the META-INF and System folder and then call that 'Update.zip'?
I've flashed roms for some of my other devices before, but they've always used flashtool or samsungs flashtool.
Please help me guys, I don't like sounding this inexperienced
update.zip
I'm wondering if the ROM I am trying to flash needs to be renamed as update.zip in order to work. It is krook's v.6 of JB for the Lenovo K1 tablet. Since the download site has to distinguish between wifi and 3G versions, as well as nvflash versions there are a number of different filenames, however does it need to be renamed after putting it on my SD card?
Generally speaking "update.zip" is used as a generic name. For example the update.zip I just flashed is actually named "rascarlo_maguro_ota_2012-11-01.zip". When you flash a custom ROM in a custom recovery you should be able to browse & flash whichever file you need.
The FXP131.zip file that contains the boot.img and 2 other folders named META-INF and System is the "update.zip"
solved
My problem was an incomplete download. I compared file sizes, and checked md5sums and determined the correct ROM and it is now in the middle of finishing the upgrade/optimization process.
Thx

[Q] Trying to flash new rom but can't find zImage

I've rooted my Galaxy S3 to the SuperNexus rom. I really don't like it so I'm trying to either change back to the stock rom or to the 4.2.1 ROM
Cyanogen Recovery does not see the files when I put them on the SD card. I figure this has something to do with ODIN? The only thing in the roms is a .tar.md5 file and another file. I don't have windows so there is no way I can run ODIN. I am trying to install it now with heimdall. I direct heimdall at the .tar.md5 file and it seems to be decompressing fine until on one of the ROMs it says "firmware.xml is missing" and the other it says something about not being able to find zImage.
Can anybody help me?
I have decompressed the .tar.md5 files manually but there is no zImage or firmware.xml file in either of them.
I feel like the SuperNexus ROM is seriously lacking in basic features that the phone had before I flashed it (i.e. you can't see the battery percentage without an extra app) so I would really like to get back to something a bit more feature-full.
Thank you in advance
just restore your nandroid backup that you obviously took before flashing super nexus.
Alternatively, flash any rooted stock rom available here via recovery
Also please read general > sticky roll-up thread > understanding the basics before rooting.
Do the reading first.

FYI The zImage is in packed witht the ramdisk into a boot.img. If you want to go poking around check out chef central and find a script to split the boot.img.

Flashable Zip to tar.md5

Hi.. Can somebody tell me if there is a way to convert flashable zip files to Odin tar.md5 files !!!!
I hav searched and read some related threads but none of them gave a conclusive answer for the question. Some explained how to convert .img files to tar files & some explained creating tar files by using 7zip (actually 7zip only create a file with .tar extension) but my question is how to convert zip files which don't have image files like for example if i wanted to flash some apps ported from other devices (camera, gallery, keyboard etc...) and i don't want to flash them through Recovery (I don't hav one) then HOW???
Technically speaking, you'd need to create an image of the partition containing content from your .zip folder (with proper permissions and stuff created by updater-script) and then you should pack it as system.img into .tar.md5 file.
The questions is WHY you want to do this, it's NOT common and there's absolutely no point in doing that.
Question is why no recovery

I don't want to install a Recovery as it increases Binary count every time v boot the device. I personally don't like to increase my count. Every time i enter into Recovery to flash a zip file it will trigger the count. I know Triangle away can make the count zero but then i have to use it every time after using Recovery & I don't want to go through all that hassle.
Why i don't like an increase in count.... It's more like OCD
So, is there any easy n simple method to convert files !!! Am not much of a Android student. It's like am at Kindergarten level at Android University
