Hi All
I am looking into starting Android Development, and due to the huge number of books out there to learn Android, I would like some recommendations.
I will be reading this also https://developer.android.com/training/index.html
Thanks
Not exactly the answer you're looking for, but any book is good if you want a "wax on, wax off" method... I'm learning by doing and consulting with YouTube... thenewboston user in YouTube is actually a good resource... You can check my learning code in GitHub: https://github.com/dbarrerap/CardManager
The main screen is CardMenu...

hi Gurus of XDA
my son will be graduating from high-school & he was wondering what is the best course or action plan to becoming a full blown Android Software Developer?
Are there any online course that he can take & how many years do i have to spend for his tuition
many thanks.
Android is the Future
hmmmm i guess no one went to 'formal' Andy school here lol
I'm sure some people have. But for the most part I believe a lot of people on here have gone to the school of hard knocks. They've learned by doing things hands on. Lots of reading, and asking a ton of questions.
yeah I guess so, so much info on the Net.
I guess I'll ask him to take up Java First
Learning to code in Java/C would be your best bet

developers.android.com is the best website to learn, there is no course for Android that can cover this variety of topics.
Still after doing hours of research, (only to learn quickly) I recommend wingnity.com/android. This is a paid online course with the following benefits over others.
1. Live classes via GotoWebinar tool
2. 24x7 support to answer technical queries
3. Certificate and a project for CV
4. Cheap - $79
Enjoy.
To become an android developer
Becoming an android developer is purely depends on your son. I know lot of developers who have been working as android developers without completing any course. The mindset of a programmer is completely different from all other professionals. But building a foundation in programming will help him to get stay stronger as a developer. There are a lot of online and on campus courses on android development. I would recommend some introductory courses on java programming rather than directly joining to an android development course. This will help him to get an idea about programming concepts. Then you can choose a course on android development. It will be helpful if you can buy a laptop or PC for him. According to me, I have completed three courses on mobile app development from Cestar college of business, health and technology in Ontario.
Hey everyone, this is my first time here cause I almost spend all my time in the roms threads and stuff. Anyway, I'm gonna go straight to the point.
The thing is that I want to make a free APP for my company (which isn't any big, but it's mine) but I don't really know where to start.
The idea I have is not very complicated as far as I know, cause what I have in mind is basically a shared agenda attached to a calculator.
Let me explain: I'm a Wedding Planner, and the thing is that I have the couples busy all the time with meetings with providers and stuff, and also I have to be checking the couple's overall money for the whole period between the contract and the marriage.
So what I need to do is an agenda that can be shared with someone else (in this case, me and the couples) with appointments and stuff, and also I need it to have the capability to calculate the couple's budget. So if they spend money in something, we can put that spending in the whole budger, so they would have a clear statement between both parts about where is their money going, and how much will they have at certain point in order so they can have their right amount to spend more or less in something else.
Then I can add simple things like "contact us", Twitter, Facebook feedback and blabla, but the main function is the one I can't do.
I've tried "app builders" but they have just basic options which don't let me dig in more to modify something cause they don't give you the source code.
I'm good at modifing code, but I don't know a single thing about creating from scratch.
Can I get a hand with this?
Thanks guys.
Questions should be asked in Q&A forums, not development forums.
Thread moved.

Are those dev's answers? Really?
Lol I looked a lot on sites that led me here just to get a "search" answer.
And why would I want to know every single aspect on android to make just a simple app?
Is like getting a chef degree just to make one bacon & eggs.
Still waiting for a serious answer.

I think you kinda answered your own question really... unless you can find something very close to what you want, you'll have to learn how to create from scratch.
If that hasn't put you off, I'd recommend that you don't go near a phone to start with. Pick just one or two features that your app will need.
Write something standalone that provides that functionality as a Java console application.
Once you have that working, you can start to figure out how to turn it into an app. For that you can probably start with one of the examples that come with the development kit (for instance, a menu example)
Hi Guys,
I am not new here but had to create a new account as i forgot my login details as i gave up a little signing on looking for a rom that was native BT5 for the xoom which was the reason i got it. But i have a question i hope you can answer. Here goes.....
I have a client of mine who has bought a huge supply of Samsung Galaxy SIII and wants me to source a secure software to encrypt everything. I have no idea on who i need to speak to or how to go about it. But basically I need the most current ROM for the SIII, but with some extra features that not only encrypt and secure all connection but also open a few options.
Just so you know there is nothing dodgy about this but my British community live in spain where we are blocked on many english sites for things such as gambling watching online tv e.t.c
Money isn't a problem if i find the right person but i know this isn't the marketplace and so i am not looking from here. I just want your advice on where to look and who is the best person or people to speak to.
I am not a novice but i'm not an expert. I am completely genuine and have no issue giving out my number to chat or anything else that may be required. I just want to find someone who's good and i promise this will benefit most XDA users by the finished product.
All the best Lyndon

I appreciate the fact you replied but it isn't the answer i'm looking for. I'm not necessarily asking for a developer from here just direction on finding one somewhere. The reason I placed it here is I know the developers here work hard and i appreciate that but I have funding that might help the development for the end user and the developers aren't going to be working there butts of for nothing and might enjoy the challenge and the potential earnings.
I know this isn't the place for selling or buying but I could make the right people the money they need to support the next year of development for one or more devices and so i would appreciate productive answers. My strongest still is networking and I get all kinds of requests i don't deal with time wasters or people who deal false hope. So i'm looking for someone with the skills and dedication that could get this done and not a bull answer that is fed to people to keep them quiet.
I agree that developers work hard, I think everyone who downloads something that they want/need that has been developed free should donate and i believe that the developers are skilled individuals that haven't just sat there clicking the start button and have got off the arses and learnt multiple O/S's and mastered terminal/console/CMD while understanding the science of computing. I myself have spent hours watching computer science leasons on itunesU spent time learning PHP,HTML,MYSQL, CompTIA A+,Networking+ & Security+ videos along with ethical hacking courses. I have windows xp,7 & 8, Mint, Backtrack, Snow Leopard & Mountain Lion, Android, Windows Phone & IOS. So i am more than aware of there capabilities and hard work they provide to the majority of people who don't even say thank you and the even fewer people that donate.
But i am not here to ask what do i do to learn it myself, I'm not even asking for someone here to do it, Just where to look to find someone who wants to earn money doing what they do in a time where no-one has work. So please answer constructively.
All the best Lyndon
Im trying to be as helpful as possible but I could sit here and recommend all the developers involved in S3 development because they all do an outstanding job, your best bet is to contact them directly and ask for advice

First, I'd like to thank you for reading this post. I will try to shove all of my thoughts into as little space as possible. My name is Chasity and I am the girl behind Beyoutiful Designs( Android and digital customization). As of right now, Beyoutiful Designs has only Go SMS Pro themes on Google Play and distributes free wallpapers, Facebook and G+ covers, Twitter Headers, and things of that nature on a blog, Facebook page, G+ business page, Twitter, and Instagram. I began Beyoutiful Designs from a passion and with a dream. A young mother of five taking a leap of faith in making a career for her family out of a love for design. I am completely self educated and continue to seek more, learn more, and know more. I am far from where my dream lies.
Throughout this journey, so far, I have ran into a few difficulties. I struggle to find resources, make connections with others who share my passion, gain followers/likes or visitors to my site, as well as receiving downloads and ratings or reviews on Google Play.
As for my struggle to find resources, I am unsure of what I am found wrong in my search efforts. I should have a massive amount more than I do after all of the countless hours I have spent researching.
Although I am far from my best ability, I do know that my work is of good quality. I always put my all in my work and I place heart in every detail. And I genuinely care. The few ratings and responses I have gotten have been high. 4.75 being my lowest. I have reached out to the few I could find in my niche with little connection made. I've spent a great deal of time. I keep falling short.
This is another outreach attempt. I'm posting here today because I am seeking resources to further educate myself and better my work. ANY material is appreciated tremendously. I am not restricted to any one area of design. I came interested in information such as:
Design materials and elements
Selling wallpapers on Google Play or a blog
Go SMS themes
Go contact themes
Social media
UCCW Widgets
Free WordPress design
Custom fonts
Tips on making profiles/blogs pretty
Fb covers and design
Finding & building connections with other designers
G+ covers and design
Google Play discover ability
AGAIN, THANK YOU! HAVE A BEYOUTIFUL DAY!

Learn Some Coding Basics and Become a Famous Developer!

Learn Some Coding Basics and Become a Famous Developer!
Many of us would love to become famous programmers like XDA’s Senior Recognized Developers. But coding isn’t easy, and you need to know the basics and have a working knowledge of whatever language you choose before even getting started. And of course, writing a simple “Hello world!” app is not enough, as you will have to look deeper to create more complicated functions.
If you are looking a good place to begin, you should take a look at the guide written by XDA Senior Member Dark Wraith, who gathered some useful information together and wrote a handy guide with commands for many popular languages like C, C++, Java, Python, and BASH.
With the instructions provided in the thread and added acquired knowledge, you will be able to understand the structure of each language better and hopefully create your first application or modify your favorite ROM. With this guide, you will be also able to edit the overclocking settings and governors of kernels, which is a good practice for the C language.
Dreams sometimes come true, so if you want to start your developer career, make your way to the guide thread and hone your coding skills. We all want to wish you good luck!

Thank you very much for taking the time to help.

Hello there , sorry for my (very) bad english?
Soon I'm going to finish my school career (I'm 18 and attending at scientific liceum ). Then I'll attend university where I would study IT and computer engineering (or that kind of stuff). Personally, I think, at now, it could give seriously important opportunities for a good job. Expecially, I'd like to work on mobile app developement and Android seems to be a great starting point, even because it doesn't look too much hard to learn. Recently, I've been looking for a some tutorial about basic app development, but I've just found links about books et simila. Today, on google play store, I've downloaded AIDE, an interesting app which teach basic app development step by step, but guess: I've to pay to open the third tutorial and above ones (and it's almost expensive for me, at now ?). Does somebody know any similar app, but FREE, or a good online site where I could learn something about app development ??
I'd reccomend you a lot teamtreehouse.com (usually known just as Treehouse, it's $25 USD a month, excellent content and you can learn a variety of languages from the beggining to medium-advanced (or advanced). It's the one i'm using right now and i've learned some pretty very useful things in a week. If that doesn't convince you, try Pluralsight or Digital Tutors (this one is for graphic design)
