Replacing the speaker - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

So I got screwed on a deal for a used Prime. It was rooted with CM9 which I wasn't happy about but I'll get over it(I completely missed that) and the speaker was blown. I need to replace that speaker, are they serviceable? Is it hard to do? Should any decent PC repair place be able to do it?
Thanks guys, I'm super pissed about this, it's partially my fault for not completely checking it out but I just to get this fixed up.

Its not too hard to get to the speaker but the problem is finding the parts to replace.

Cannot hear people I talk to

I can only barely hear whomever I talk to, why is that? It all started when I installed a custom ROM on my X10 Mini. A reboot or turn off didn't help it. I fail to see why a software can cause hardware not to function as it should.
I have tried cleaning my phone in SEUS, but it didn't help it; my problem persists. I have no screen cover whatsoever and the little hole for the earpiece is not clogged with dust and what-not. What should I do? Is there anyway I can make it work again WITHOUT replacing it? I haven't got a dime to repair it for and I bought it in February '11.
I tried flashing stock firmware, but it didn't help it. I contacted the developer of the ROM I'm using and he says he's never heard of that problem before. I'm the first one to have it.
Surely, a software cannot make a hardware not working? If it's broken, then how on earth has that happened? I have never dropped it.
such things happen quite often its most certainly not software related.
put it on your heater in your rom, let it lay for a while when the heater is warm, try to make a call if it works then you most likely have a cold solder point in the microphone. you could try to open it up if you know how to solder and just reheat pins around the microphone if not i wouldnt suggest doing it
How could this have happened? Do you think I may have exposed it to too much cold?
It comes like this from the factory, you cant do anything about it. If its a cold soldering all it takes is one drop or the phone getting warm and cooling off. The point will start to diisconnect sooner or later.

So in order to fix it, I need to replace the earpiece? These god damned smartphones makes me wanna go back to dummyphones. I remember this old K700i of mine. I could drop it and even on purpose throw it in walls or the floor without anything breaking it. But smartphones break as time passes. Where's the good old quality gone?

You dont need to replace. Btw this can happen tooo all electronic devices. Of course depending on the qualtiy of the soldering.
However dissassembling it and reheat the solder point usually does the trick. If you know how to do it or maybe somebody you know can do it for you. Theres a big chance you only need to solder the pin around the speaker.
I wish you luck

[Q] speaker broken (not the audio one)

sorry to bother evryone but i cant find any topics seeing i dont know how to translate it.
i only get speaker (music) finds
so my speaker broke about 1 month ago . the one used for calling .
i went to get it repaired and was fixed.
now 3weeks later the same thing is happening.
distortion sound .
now i payed 50 euros for the first repair wich is still under warrenty .
but i want to know how this can happen . i dont drop my phone or cause it damg. in any way . always in a cover to prevent dirt etc piling up.
and i would rather not go back to get it fixed again for it to brake again in a matter of weeks.
especially since the guy that fixed it left his mark on my phone (toolmarks, bits broken of the corners of the frame etc.)
thnx in advance

There might be bad connection on pcb, it causes that volume is not so strong and sound has sometimes mixed channels. Maybe this could be the problem. But dont know how that guy solved it - maybe with some externeal soldering. I am also imaging about two other another problems, but Its really hard to say it without internal look. Sorry

WTF who was he? 50€ for THAT repair??? Personally I will kill him by my own phone after that looking "repair" for so huge price... He probably dontknow anything about opening plastic cases with special tools, even they cost only about 2€ on ebay...
Sorry for little OT, but must say it, because I am also servicing phones notebooks and so on... And these "repairmans" or "repair services" makes me really angry...
i agree on off topic
anyways thnx for you're reply, all he did actually was replace it and i dont even know if it was an original part (color differences from original)
so i can tell that it has bin replaced and the sound was alot better
it kinda sounds like your using a tiny speaker on to loud volume i suppose, and decreasing volume isnt helping.(crackling sound, distortion thats all i can come up with)
for now its doable i can still understand people (alot better then last time)
and it might be me but i feel like using another rom ferals now actually makes it sound a bit better (i could be wrong hard to test)
and i also didnt mention last time that on the audio speakers theres no problem .
arent they the same part ? i looked on the web and it looks like an L-shaped part that seem to match both speaker positions.
Thnx has bin pressed ofc.

Audio jack defective?

I've received a new note 2 (sch-i605) through insurance a couple days ago, and after going through the tedious process of rooting and flashing and setting up everything on my phone, I've discovered to my great frustration that the audio jack seems to be defective. When I plug in my headphones (and I assure you they are in all the way) only the left speaker works, unless I press on the headphone plug sideways, or twist it. I've tried cleaning out the jack with compressed air and a q-tip, and I've tightened all the screws on the back on the phone. Oh, and yes I've tried different headphones/headsets, they all present the same issue. My previous note 2 never had this problem and I had it for about 5 months.
Now I really don't want to go through the process of warranty unless I really have to. Is this a common issue with the note 2? Is there a way I can fix it myself? Or is it just easier to go through unrooting and sending my phone through warranty (if it even qualifies)? Thanks.
I had a similar issue with my Droid Razr Maxx 5 different times and finally someone allowed me to switch model phones w/ out using any upgrades or signing a new contact, etc... Anyway, they recommended to me to use a pipe cleaner, NOT a qtip because it will leave qtip fuzz in the headphone jack.
I would say, if that doesn't fix it, you're screwed and gotta return to stock and send it back. Yeah, it sucks and I feel you.
If the insurance sent you a defective phone they should replace it no cost. You really don't even have to unroot.
Very easy to fix just order a new part online and unscrew the back cover and replace it. I would check the port on it

Fix it!
kevinyoki,
I can understand your reluctance to return it and go through the whole setup process again. As a frequent user of headphones myself, this is an interesting topic.
If you're up to it, it wouldn't be too hard of a repair. These phones appear to be very serviceable, which is another real plus to the Note 2. Try doing any work yourself on an Iphone or Ipod Touch and you'll know what I mean. Nightmare.
You can get the part super cheap and you don't even need to do any soldering.
Search for, "Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Disassembly" on youtube and you'll find some good instructional videos on how to take the phone apart.
Disassembly looks pretty straight forward.
Then search Ebay for "Galaxy Note 2 jack" and you find that you can get the part for just a few bucks! Can't beat that!
I say go for it. After seeing the innards of your phone, you'll get a whole new appreciation for all of the engineering that went into it. Plus, you'll probably learn a thing or two in the process and after fixing it, you'll probably get a good feeling of satisfaction. Sounds like a win win to me.
Good luck!
Do not repair it yourself, you will void the warranty and SOL if you happen to not be able to fix it.

[Q] No audio from headphone jack or loudspeaker. Only earpiece makes sound

Rooted s-on amaze No audio from loudspeaker or headphone jack. Only earpiece or bluetooth make sound. Phone just went for warranty a month ago and they said they replaced the motherboard. Now I a couple weeks out of warranty and they are telling me tough luck. Lucky me... What could cause this? I have tried several different firmwares, kernels including going back to stock. No change.
Doesn't look like a common issue. I can't find any info on this that helped at all. Please help.
Just going out on a limb here, the phone's already been repaired at least once--I would suspect a bad component.

Seems like a logical diagnosis to me too. It could be anything from a bad headphone jack or speaker to a failed board component. The fact that you've had it serviced before for the same issue suggests it wasn't properly repaired the first time. Sorry, but this doesn't sound like a software issue.
Thank you for quick reply. Guess its tough s*** for me
Symptoms--did it just stop out of nowhere, or did you install something and it stopped? If it just stopped out of nowhere, go fishing around in the phone, see if there's some kinda loose cable or if the earplug assembly is loose or something. Much of troubleshooting is just discovery. Amaze are pretty affordable if you have to replace it--check craigslist or swappa. Maybe your provider will set you up with something, doesn't even have to be Amaze for you to have functionality.
I have the very same problem and this is the first thing I've seen about it. No sound from loud speaker or headphone jack. I haven't pinpointed something I installed to make it quit working, I've tried different roms, etc to see if it would work. No luck. The sound even decides to work every couple weeks for a total of maybe a minute and it stops again. If anyone discovers a solution I'm all ears. I have no warranty, I'm on T-Mobile with a no contract plan. Thanks for any help..
I am waiting on some micro torx bits to do some exploratory diagnosis. I do have an electronics/electrical background but my skills are limited in this case to monkeying with connections and perhaps some basic metering. I will post when I have done so. i have a feeling it is likely a loose/poor connection that has caused this since it has only just come back from repair and the motherboard was supposedly replaced. However, wether or not the put a NEW board in is an unknown.
In terms sysptoms and there was no audio distortion or any signs of any thing wrong at all before. This was sudden and without warning. It was not in the middle of use of the head p. jack or the loud speaker either. I had not installed any apps for at least a few days before this happened so I am inclined to not believe it is software related.
So far I am stumped we will see what happens when I do a little surgery. If the patient dies I will go by a S3...People still want 120 bucks here for their amazes. Thanks all for input.
To @the jew hunterhunter--your troubleshooting skills are similar to mine--poke around--and then some. Poking is especially is especially handy when the problems are physical.
Clever "replaced but don't know if it was new."
Good luck in your investigation.
I know the headphone jack itself can be problematic, something in the design that can allow just a tiny displacement of the plug to result in disconnection, don't know if purchasable replacements are better or not, however that is probably completely unrelated to your sound issues. Yet..., I would look at that component first.
I am glad you will post results.
To @marshallrounds, you can see from this thread that it is probably hardware, as no one else has found or mentioned any software-caused issues or fixes.
no workie
So i tried to goof with it but there was nothing I could do with my limited poking and hoping skills. Must be a bad component or some microcode glitch. Out of my hands so I bought a used nexus 4 for 190$ MUCH HAPPIER NOW nexus 4 makes the amaze look like a bad joke. Thanks to amaze ppl out there for everything tho!:good:

Hardware problem

So, everytime i wave my phone around my ear i hear a sound at the back of the phone and makes me think that there's something broken or, detached.First, i thought its the vibration motor, but when i dissembled the phone, the motor seemed fine and well fixed there.I waved it again and the sound (i think) came from under the motherboard.I want to fix this problem because i can't use the vibrations. They work but, they sound like something is buzzing in there and it's not attached.
How do you expect members of a forum to diagnose a hardware problem in your phone? Take it to samsung or a repair shop and pay them to fix it, if it is broken.
