WIFI Toggle on ATT and not Verizon? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Does anyone know why Verizon leaves off the WIFI toggle on their ROM for the SGS4? My buddy has an ATT model and his has the toggle in the notification drop down. I have searched and this doesn't seem to be a mod yet unless I missed it.

I haven't seen a mod for it yet. There is a mod to remove the constant notification and nottach exposed with exposed installer can do that too

they replaced the toggle with an annoying ass ongoing wifi notification in the notification bar. havent seen a mod to put it back yet

This is annoying....there is absolutely no reason to get rid of the toggle....hell having both would be better....atleast they could allow disabling the ongoing notification...giving you the option of having it or not. I had the S3 on tmobile before and the wifi toggle was there. Ive voiced my concerns with customer service on this matter...not sure if they will change it though. Hopefully though.

That is just Verizon making it a PITA to turn your WIFI on and off. They are hoping that you just leave the wifi turned on to get off of their towers as much as possible. Not important for us on the unlimited plan.

Not all of us have the luxury of unlimited data....I have cable with Xfinity so no issue there...just sucks that they wont listen to the customers and fix it.

Roaming

Before S-off my 3vo would automatically switch over to a Verizon tower while roaming, now after S-off Verizon towers can no longer validate my 3vo and wont roam on that system? Is there a fix for this or is it going to stay like this?

Call Sprint and tell them your voice roaming isnt working. I had to do it yesterday. Hopefully you dont get an idiot like I did the first time.
Ok thanks I will give that a try.

i have so far gotten 3 idiots
sorry but do you mind telling what for roaming is needed?
you can internet/ 3g without roaming right?
what is it for?
He's saying his roaming is borked, I assume he ran an update of his prl, when he makes a call he probably gets a message from Verizon saying his phone is not registered. Sprint will probably want to do a re activation.
You roam on Verizon when a sprint signal is not available, which is quite common for me.
Also check your settings in the wireless and networks section and see if your set to automatic and not home only, and roaming guards are turned off. S-off does do something to the phone authentication so its up to sprint to fix it on their end.
doesnt roaming cost money?
meh i have everywhere connection to my provider,
99% coverage.
I just rooted a few days ago and can't call on verizon either, calling sprint tonight.
use sprint chat, makes things alot easier and faster
tried chatting 3 times, getting error 1012, and so far no one can tell me to do anything except pull the battery or update the profile
try just making a call while ytou are not roaming, you will most likely get and error 16, and if you hold long enough you wil;l be routed directly to sprint to the security dept. who will fix your problem
I just got off with Sprint chat and said:
I am getting an error 16 and need an HRL refresh

Is there any way I can force the phone to go into roaming so that I can see if I have that same issue?

There's an app for that, roam control, but its kind of shady, it dosent work when you need it most. Obviously you don't have a working signal and no data, it has to check for a license every time before you can use it. So if you don't have data and need to roam, your sol until the phone itself decides to roam.
Trying to get fixed... Said I had to be off phone, what did they refresh?
Roam Control doesn't seem to work, at least for me.

It shouldn't check the license every time you run the app...it doesn't for most people. I'm trying to figure out why it does this for a small number of phones, hope to have some type of correction soon. Thanks! -MrGreg

Can you tell me how to get around the license check error? That's the biggest gripe I have with the app.

On Going WiFi Notification

After root I tried the method that worked on the S3 and it didn't fix it for me. Anyone else try yet? Or have another method besides modifying the wifi_networks_available_notification_on value?
ya the Sq lite method doesn't work on Jellybean. I'm also looking for a way to remove it.

Are we talking about the message that says "Wi-FI networks available" if you leave Wi-Fi enabled 24/7 and travel around, and your phone finds open routers?
Because I am rocking an old Thunderbolt still with an ICS AOSP ROM and it does that as well.
If this issue is different however please explain.

There is a notification that ALWAYS displays your WiFi status. Doesn't matter if your WiFi is turned off, connected to a network, or aren't connected to a network. It never goes away.

Ah thanks I see now. That is really stupid. On every other version of the Note 2 (Intl + all non-Verizon US carriers) there is a Wi-Fi toggle in the top power bar, but not on Verizon. GG Verizon ruining everything they get their greedy little hands on.
They're like the Electronic Arts of the cell phone market.

[Q] How to disable global mode data notifications?

I have my phone set to NOT allow data while roaming. However, for some reason, when I'm going underground through metro tunnels, it is constantly popping up notifications asking if I want to enable "global mode", which interrupts whatever I'm doing. I couldn't find a way to disable these, anyone know how? Really annoying when you're playing a game.. or doing something productive.
This has been asked a lot and the general consensus is to just enable it. You do not get charged extra and there is no battery drain.
It comes in in low signal areas even though I don't think it helps signal in anyway. I've kept it enable since I got the note and it makes zero difference except in not bugged by a pop up.

I was having the same issue when I entered the NYC subways. The Verizon rep told me that when switching to global mode I lose the benefit of the LTE network.
I've since started using an NFC tag in my briefcase to enable, then disable airplane mode when entering and leaving the subway.

Global network mode gives you better signal

Look at the pic and sumone please explain this to me I googled it and all I found was that using global gives you better connection by using all antennas in the phone and just keep the roam off so switch to global and keep roaming disabled to not get over charges but is it worth it

I ordered mine online from verizon and when i posted this i was curious enough to check. Mine, by default, was set in global mode and reception has been 1000x's better then my GNex.
I'll try two battery charge cycles both ways (global mode) and one in LTE/CDMA mode and i'll report back.

This is funny that you would post this because I just had the opposite experience. I am on an unlimited Verizon data plan + pay for the unlimited mobile hotspot so it's our primary internet and we use it all the time. 2 days ago when we got home from work we had about 2 hours to kill before going to a pot luck so i wanted to surf the interwebz (specifically to watch the Youtube video about the Other Guys movie where Will Ferrell talks about Tuna's attacking a lion....). It worked slowly at first and then totally died.
So i called up 611 and wanted to report bad towers because we've been having a lot of storms lately and the lady said there were none and that i should go into the settings you just showed and see if it was on global. It was and she had me change it to the LTE option and BAM! it was fixed. Instantly.
I had already tried power cycling my phone and it did nothing so i think this fixed it. I know she was reading off a script on her screen but she said when the phone is on global mode it tries to reach too far to reach GSM towers as well as LTE and can mess up the data connection.
I have no idea if it's true but it makes sense to leave it on the LTE option since i am not currently traveling.
Just wanted to add my 2cp...

I would leave it the way it is. As soon as VZW updates their 4G to use the AWS spectrum we should all see better signal strength and what not.

The reason for this is because you were probably connected to a tower that was not part of Verizon's own network. Turning off Global means your phone only accepts connections to Verizon's towers, which probably connected you with a faster tower.

Ya...except that won't even *begin* to happen until around the end of the year (October, if I'm not mistaken?), and only in select markets. It won't be in even a majority of LTE markets for another few years. AWS isn't even in its infancy yet.

Boy, so much wrong information in this thread that my head is starting to hurt.
Let me clarify this for everyone, before everyone starts going, "zOMG Global Mode is the best!!11"
The "Global Mode" has been around for Samsung since the S1. Simply put, it's a way to turn off the INTERNATIONAL radios when you're not traveling. The phone turns off the global ready band radios and only uses LTE/CDMA when you're on your home network when you select the non-global mode. That is it. Nothing more, nothing less. It's not a magical tool to get better signal. It does NOTHING for your signal here in the US, much the same way clearing battery stats does NOTHING for your battery life.
I always keep it off because the firmware eventually scans the global (GSM) bands and well, however small or minute that might be, it eats battery.
Unless you're in South America, or Europe, you don't need the global mode on.
If you ever see the phone asking you about Global mode, is because your phone was out of service for a set amount of time. After that timer has elapsed, the settings apk will ask you if you want to turn the Global feature on (it's trying to be smart and thinking you're out of the country since you have no domestic CDMA/LTE signal) It happens to me all the time in my car port.
Hope this helps.

not sure why you pay to enable the mobile hotspot. If you are still on unlimited then get foxfi. It works on the S4 with no root required. It can be a hotspot for you without paying verizon anything additional.
wouldn't that drain the battery faster?

Have full Verizon 4G signal, simultaneous voice and data not working

I am traveling and am in an area with fantastic 4G coverage. The other day I was on the phone doing an conference call and had my phone tethered to my laptop. As soon as my call connected I last all internet coverage as far as the tethering is concerned. As soon as my call ended my data kicked back in. What gives? It used to work, why does it not anymore?
Sounds like some dirty ploy on VZW 's end to restrict tethering.

You know this is a good point. I am using the widget bypass and with the recent update for the phone you get prompted about a subscription error. As I'm sure you already know you just simply hit the home button and it still stays connected and works fine. I swear I was talking to my Wife a couple days ago and it was working, to my best knowledge this just started not working as 2-3 days ago. Anyone else experience this?

Just made a quick call to 611 and let the prompting stay connected in the back ground. I then tried surfing on the phone and it worked fine, so I then tried on the laptop tethered and it seemed to work. Maybe a glitch, or maybe they are going after tethering... Hmm
Maybe its just conference calls you cant tether with.

Conference call that I was on at this time was called into one phone listening to others in the same room over speaker. I don't think this is the case.
Been on the phone for a half hour and it's working perfect. Weird!
Necro-thread! But, I realized the other day that I am having the same issue as the OP. I used to be able to continue surfing over my 4G hotspot while also talking on the phone. Somewhere along the way, the capability has stopped working. I have Unlimited Data and use FoxFi to enable tethering. And, like I said, this used to work. I've had my S4 since May, 2013, but I'm not sure when, during all that time, it stopped.
It really come to the fore today because a friend told me about Verizon Advanced Calling and I logged into my account to enable that. I noticed two things. One, the S4 is not a "compatible device", even though Samsung says the phone supports VoLTE. And, two, one of the features that VZW touts for Adanced Calling is being able to do simultaneous voice and data over 4G LTE.
This is all starting to make me think my simultaneous voice and data went away at some point when Verizon turned off the capability via a phone firmware update or something. Because, of course, they want me to buy a new phone - ideally while also giving up Unlimited Data.
That also makes me thing I might be able to "fix" my phone using SS and a ROM and maybe an Xposed module. But anyway....
Can anybody shed any light on this? I don't do it that often (talk on the phone while I'm tethered), but when I do want to do it, it dang sure sucks that it doesn't work any more!
---------- Post added at 12:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:57 AM ----------
Okay, now I really don't know what the deal is. I just tested it, sitting in my office. and, today, it's working. I have a strong 4G signal here. I called my desk phone and answered and set the handset down. I turned on FoxFi, then connected to my hotspot with my tablet. While the voice call was still connected, I had no trouble running SpeedTest on my tablet and getting 40 Mbps download.
Hmmm.... Maybe not working the other day is some other problem with my phone....
Okay, never mind...
