Self Made Phone Cases - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

Hello people!
I was pretty frustrated with the fact that markets are only flooded with iPhone covers and devices like our L9 barely have any accessories available. I had a Galaxy Mini earlier and faced a similar challenge.
So I resorted to making covers myself!
You can check out the photos over here.
I could make a jacket type or a pouch type, with or without a stylus pocket, with or without camera and speaker slots. I could colour it the way you want and write whatever you want or leave it blank for you to do your own thing. The first few pictures show a one with a plastic pocket on the back to slide in a paper. The photograph in that model can be removed and replaced.
The main ingredient to the covers is newspaper. (Reuse!!)
The covers are decently tough even though they are made from newspapers. They have a layering of cardboard to give them extra strength and fevicol too gives them a lot of strength. The top covering is with a mixture of fevicol and water applied on tissue paper which also strengthens the whole thing.
I paint using acrylic colours because of two reasons--1) They are waterproof. They wont let the phone get wet unless you drench the whole thing. 2) That is what I have at home and I am too lazy to go to the market.
If somebody is interested in buying one, you could Email me at [email protected]
I only have the following phones and can only make covers for these.
Samsung Galaxy Mini
BlackBerry Curve 8900
LG Optimus L9
iPhone 5
P.S. Yes, its DBatraOriginals.

Putting #swag at the end discredited your whole post.

nice effort buddy but i doubt anyone would buy it!

Well, its been quite some time with this thread up, and even i have similar feelings!
Thanks anyways

Is the textured stuff like "grabby" at all. Does it stick when you pull it out of your pocket?

I didnt get the "grabby" part. And it is a bit sticky in the beginning, like when the paint is new. But in a couple of days, its very smooth. I am using one myself and i have absolutely no problems.

Can't even express how ugly and terrible it is.

Buddy it s awful
:highfive:

Thing is there is actually a decent selection of cases for the L9 on eBay, you just have to do a little digging. Hell there are Nilkin cases for less than $10 and brand new from various eBay retailers (I ordered one myself last week). Or you can get the S-line cases for less than $4. All of them come with free shipping.
Just search "optimus l9 cases" and you get a lot of results. The main problem is that there aren't enough cases and acessories in local phone shops but it's much cheaper to get it online anyway. I'm never going to buy cases or screen protectors from regular stores again (i've wasted too much money unnecessarily), i'm sticking to online lol.

No offence but no one is gonna buy that.

Dude no offense.. but no one wants to become a laughing stock in the public by using ur home made cases ,
how can one use the ugly covers on a 16k phone, the reputation of the fone will go down..lolz

Way to waste money on products because no one is going to pay money on that guy when you can get decent cases on eBay for around 10 bucks.

Aluminum bumper for $65 down to $18

If you guys remember the all aluminum bumper available on ebay for $65? well the silver one is down to a much more palatable $18. just ordered mine and it should be in in a week are two. unfortunately the black one is still $65. links are below.
Silver:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SILVER-PREM...ccessories&hash=item3cc015e263#ht_2335wt_1139
Black: (reference)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLACK-PREMI...ccessories&hash=item3cc015de5e#ht_2335wt_1139
EDIT:
ok so i've had the case for a couple weeks and have had time to thoroughly examine it...
IMO it is a beautiful case, it does make the phone larger much like every other case. at first it does feel larger because it has a wider girth than most other cases. you will get people to comment saying "thats a big phone" it happens alot lol
the edges near the screen are actually a little sharp, the company didn't smooth the edges very well. its not gonna cut you or anything like that but it is noticible for the first few days, much like its size. another con is that many 3.5mm headphone cable don't fit well if they are very wide cables...the headphones i use and the aux cord in my car fit without a problem but the one in my mom's car (tape to 3.5mm adapter) does not fit, nor does the one i use to play music on my home theatre system.
it is a beautiful case and adds a good amount of weight, both giving it a more premium feel...overall i'm happy and will suggest it to anyone. with the only con being that some headphones may not fit, all other you can easily get over. i bought the silver one and mixed it with a blue brushed aluminum textured skin from skinit.com, and it looks sexy haha
i like it, but if you want a small case that you'll barely notice, i'd choose a different case

"LIMITED EDITION" Carbon Fiber Evo LTE!!

VIEW IN WEB BROWSER PLEASE, THIS HAS A POLL AND IS NOT VIEWABLE IN THE XDA APP!!! ( in app tap menu, web view)
Just kidding guys! No limited edition, just ANOTHER hardware mod by me!! I THINK, (just my opinion before people start flaming me), I THINK this is how the phone should have come. Clean, simple, and dare i say it... elegant. lol
My other MOD found here... http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?12966-hardware-mod-my-evo-lte!!!-) OR here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683083 (I hope no one is mad about my little joke???)
I used a Dremel and some small grinding bits to remove the red from the camera, a wire brush bit to remove the red from the kickstand and covered the top and bottom of the device with carbon fiber vinyl. I also applied a small strip on vinyl under the kickstand just for something different!!!
UPDATE: Link to a how to video (not mine) on YouTube. It's a decent one that gives you an idea of what can be done with this stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMhvU8Dk3CE&feature=g-hist
UPDATE 2: http://www.metrorestyling.com/3M-DI-NOC-CARBON-FIBER-VINYL-CA-421-p/dinoc421.htm This is only one of 1,000's places to get the stuff from, its just to give everyone a resourse to read up on it. CHECK THICKNESS OF PRODUCT BEFORE PURCHASING! THANKS Robo for the link!
UPDATE 3: LINK TO A SITE THAT SELLS REPLACEMENT PARTS!! http://www.etradesupply.com/htc/android-models/htc-evo-4g-lte.html :More info on page 3, post 4
***There was a whole explanation here, explaning the poll. This has been removed due to XDA rules that I was unaware of. Selling services are no allowed, sorry guys.***
Probably the best CF I've seen on this phone. Good job.
Also DiNoc brand stuff is awesome, highly recommend it for any and all wraps you do.

Yes, sorry. You can for sure remove it. The phone needs to be disassembled though. Remove top cover and bottom cover, then the 4 screws under the bottom cover and the 5 screws under the top cover. Then the 2 on the left side for the kickstand and the 3 others. Then you can push down on the bottom to seperate the screen and circuitry from the metal rear housing. After you have the metal rear housing seperated from everything else, turn it over to find the other 4 screws that mount the kickstand to the aluminum rear. After those are removed, the kickstand is free!

I think it's a long shot that people will be willing to send you there Evo's just for the mod.
I personally wouldn't mind donating a few bucks for a thorough "how-to" video or write up. If I remember correctly, the carbon fiber is really easy to install, all you need is a blow dryer but as far as the kick stand goes, i'm not familiar with sanding and whatnot
Edit: I guess i must eat my words. I didn't see the poll at first.
Regardless, please give us a DIY! I really want to try this

That is honestly a pretty cool mod for the phone. It just wouldn't be useful for me due to the fact that I use an otterbox case on my phone. I would never get to see the good looking carbon fiber.

This thing is huge and I'm loving it (TWSS)

Was a blackberry guy for years, switched to iphone 2 years ago, had a few Android tablets, and am on my first Android phone. I am in love!
Getting a lot of flack already on the size already but I can take it. The screen on this thing is gorgeous! After 2 days of playing around my wife's iphone seems ridiculously tiny...

I need root for daily app backups and other things, so it's a hit to my list. I think I might go back tomorrow and see if they have a dummy unit I can try with my pockets. I love the screen but need something practical to carry as well. For now, my GNex will just have to suffice.

Usually I don't use cases but I found 2 awesome deals on a nillkin and rearth case so from day 1 I've had a case on it and since their slim cases they both fit in my pocket nicely. The outline in my jeans isn't really too noticeable. It sticks out just as much as my S3 did.

Trojan? But seriously, without that lint/crud catching lip around it, you'd scratch your screen when you set the phone face down. It's a trade off I'm willing to deal with, I suppose.

I love my cruzerlite with the android logo on the back. It's super svelt and you can see the notification light on the power button. I got the smokey gray one. Perfect fit, feels great, no problems in/out of pocket, good price ($15 range).

Thanks I'll take a look at the cruzerlite, I've been meaning to.
I've had my eye on the cruzerlite one too but I tried a cheapo hard case first (which is ok but I'm not in love with it). I will have to try it out based on your recommendation!

I've got both case and I find the Diztronic to fit much, much better and just is of much better quality. The Cruzerlite does fell much slimmer, though it seems to have a bit of sag on the top & bottom edges and the sides seem to give more if brushed against when swiping & such.

I was so excited to get the clear one, but the damn thing leaves air pockets on the back and makes it look hideous instead of showing off its beauty, I was pretty disappointed with it ha
Its because of the case material and our phone being glass. Its just sticking is all. How often do you look at the back of your phone?

I got the diztronic just to hold me over until I found one I actually wanted but when I got it I realized I actually really like it. Fits like a glove and I can hardly tell its on from the front. Plus I like the soft tpu feel.
I just got my Diztronic in today, loving how slim it is, and I doubt the TPU will break in half on the weak part just from plugging/unplugging the charger like the surround case I had.
That said, I'm not looking forward to finding out what happens when my clumsy *** lets it slip out of my hands...

I have almost every color because I absolutely love the Cruzerlite cases & this way I can switch out to whatever color strikes me at the moment. I find the ribbing along the side to be a fantastic perk because this enables grasping the phone much easier plus the cases just look awesome.
Meant to add that I also have the Diztronic case & also like that one quite well.

Damn it. I had forgotten all about wanting to buy a couple of the cruzerlites. The at&t version wasn't on Amazon when I last looked. Now I am going to have to get a couple.

Its because of the case material and our phone being glass. Its just sticking is all. How often do you look at the back of your phone?

Lmao, i know, it sounds really stupid but i like the back of this phone, its sexy it is a nice case otherwise though, just a bit OCD about it haha
The back of this phone does look really nice. Until a spec of dust drops on it from 1/2 inch and it shatters or you go outside and its 2 degrees colder then it was in your house and it splinters like a spiderweb.

I hear ya. I liked staring at the back of my phone until the crack in the glass happened. Now I just feel sadness whenever I happen to look. Guess I'll have to stick with gazing at the front instead. Sigh. ;P

Lol, yeah, I used to be worried about it but its been about 70 in my house and 30 outside and never happened, and the day dust cracks class is the the day I move into a windowless apartment haha I'm not too worried about it honestly.

yeah, when my first OG broke I was sooo sad! This phone really is a looker, would of been even better if it had the removable back the OG pro does, then we wouldn't even have to worry about covering our babies! Lol

How many G2's would have sold with the Nexus 5 Matte Back finish?

Just thinking that the perfect phone would be the G2 with the matte finish. The front screen is already perfect but add the matte finish with the awesome back placement of the power button and volume keys and it would be amazing. I love my G2 but the back cover is a horrendous plastic finger print magnet. I cant imagine how many units LG would have sold if the the back cover was Matte finish like the Moto X or Nexus 5? Just dreaming...
Just purchase another back cover off eBay or so and sandpaper it (or use steel wool grade 0000). Check out the accessories forum, there's a thread there . Imo the matte finish is far more elegant.

Doesn't rand of an integer return an integer?
Using LG G2 to type this

Sure.. My point was they'd sell a random number, regardless of the N5's back.
I didn't even look at the back of the G2 when buying it, personally, as I always use a low profile TPU type case.

Really? You bought the phone and had no idea the volume and power button was on the back.

Of course I knew they were on the back, but after playing with Knock-On in the store I figured I could live it. Otherwise, it'd have been a no-sale.
I didn't pay attention to the back much otherwise, as it'd always be covered.
Who cares about the back most use a case if they're smart lol.

I know this sounds crazy but the people who care probably don't use a case
So just plasti dip it!

I like the look of it as it is, but a back with more grip would be more comfortable, at least in summer
It wouldn't have changed my decision but would have changed my decision to use a case

well then i think the people who care don't then even look for N5, Moto X, or G2 altogether. They buy iPhone 5S champagne or even Vertus. They're so stupid if they care of matte back covers
I believe most people were turned off by the rear button placement...not the glossy shiny back.

I think some are turned off by the bloated software and buttons. The average customer that walks in the store isn't aware of rooting their device to debloat it.

Few people are put off by so called 'bloat'. Very few really know what an unbloated phone looks like for 2 reasons. First the Nexus' sells in tiny numbers, and second the Nexus isnt bloat free anyway! The G2 is no more burdened with bloat than any other phone.
I dont have a problem with the G2s back. Sure its plastic, but its smart. The N5 might be soft touch, but it looks and feels hollow and cheap.

Thank you, I was about to say just this. The XDA echo chamber continues to rumble with the expectation that every user is a power user and that every customer roots their phone.
Plus, even with the stock ROM, the phone is a beast, I saw no lags in the 24h I used it stock.
I have a matte protector on the back of mine from BestSkinsEver. Problem solved.
