Ok as most off us know I'm sure rooting vids your warranty, but as on the s3 if we put it back to stock and only flashed stock through Odin it wouldn't trigger the flash counter...is that the same case with the s4? I'm anxious to root but want at least my 14 days to return if I change my mind (which I doubt I will) but just curious as to how it works on this one...hoping is similar to the s3, flashing on that was a snap

Since I don't have selling privileges on here yet, I'm going to try to sell my tab on craigslist. Since ICS isn't fully functional for the Galaxy Tab yet, I was wondering what Custom ROM is fully functional with the best performance upgrades? Maybe an OC ROM?
It is a 16GB 7510.

If you're gonna sell it, then I suggest flashing a stock rom with odin.

You have to assume the general population don't know a think about rooting or flashing. Don't put a custom ROM on it, flash it back to stock so if the user is clueless about rooting and flashing, he/she can get the OTA update for ICS when it arrives (lord knows when that is).
I agree, when you sell a device you want everything to be stock.
I have Gingerbread XWKK2 but cannot get the rooting file CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_KK2-v5.0-CWM5.tar to install using Odin. No idea what I
am doing. Can you help please?
I bought the phone with a vanilla version but the battery overheated and Virgin sent it off to Optus who quite unethically installed their own OS that has parasitic apps all through it. I want my independence back and don't care if the warranty is voided.
same with my Galaxy Tab 7.7 phone....I want to root that and replace both with vanilla ICS but the only instructions i can get are so convoluted and involved it sends me spare.
help please
Odin
In Odin, don't touch anything but PDA. Put the cf root file in there and it should work fine.
No idea about the tab though, sorry.
Handing my S4 over to my boss who wants stock TW on it. I got the phone day 1 when it was released and put TWRP and have run some form of AOSP since then. What's a good TW ROM that close enough to stock? Also I know there was some stuff that broke rooting methods in the later builds we've gotten (ME7 I think?), will flashing these builds have any effect on my recovery/root?

I've heard Bonestock or Clean Rom are good TW roms, but as I have ME7 and a locked bootloader (I don't use Safestrap) I can't comment on them. If you flash ANY of the new updates you will lose the ability to unlock the bootloader, and will not be able to flash most roms anymore. If you use ME7, or to a lesser extent MI1, you can use Safestrap to flash roms, but will be severely limited on storage options.
Another thing you could do is flash back to MDK stock (what your phone originally came with), root it, freeze the updater apps, and hand it to him. It'll be bone stock without the risk of auto-updating.
So my girlfriend has wants her S4 rooted. I have the S3 and its quite different as far as rooting goes. I am also on sprint whereas she is on verizon (although thats not such a big deal).
Anyways, what I would like to have clarified for me is this: She is currently unrooted with stock MK2. From what I have read you can only root and install compatible roms with safestrap. The main thing she wants is KitKat and possibly CM. Is there any way for her to get either of these. Also, would it be possible to revert back to stock and flash KitKat with the OTA from verizon when it is released?
Thanks for any help.

There's no way for her to get KitKat or CM or anything AOSP. Hopefully the next OTA will have an exploit, but there hasn't been a cracked bootloader since the first version of firmware on the initial releases. Realistically, never going to happen.
Hello,
I've been reading and doing some research and I just wanted to clear up a few things before I went ahead and rooted.
I just bought the T-mobile Galaxy S5 and it came with Android 5.0. and baseband G900TUVU1DOB1. The main reason I want to root is due to the battery drain issues with Lollipop. I heard Twi5ted lollipop ROM is pretty good so wanted to give that one a chance!
1. Rooting - I'm assuming I need to use ODIN and flash back to Kit Kat first? After that, I can use TowelRoot to obtain root, get super user, and flash CWM? My only question with this process if it trips the Knox counter? Do you guys really care if you trip the counter or not? The reason I care is because I want to use Samsung Pay if it ever comes to the S5 and I heard that's not possible if the knox counter is tripped.
2. Flashing Custom ROMs - I'm assuming I can just flash Twi5ted's custom rom via CWM without any issues. However, I saw there was something called MultiSystem. Do you guys use it? Is it worth going that route instead? It seems like you can use it to flash different ROMS at the same time. Do the ROMs run slower because it's not on the internal storage device?
3. Files - Where do I get the stock version of kit kat that I can flash via ODIN? Where do I get CWM?
Thanks,
Indian

Well, I wouldn't go with MultiSystem. I've been flashing roms and rooting phones for a few years now and MultiSystem looks like something a developer might use to test a rom while having a working rom. As far as the Knox counter being tripped. Of course I tripped mine about a month after I got my S5. Google Wallet works fine. Yeah, Samsung Pay probably won't work on a rooted phone.
As for where to get what you need, go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo.../how-to-how-to-root-root-g900tuvd0b1-t3042249 He gives good directions how to root your phone and tells you where to get what he doesn't have.
