custom vibration issues - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I am running ICS. Like others, I am kind of frustrated that you cannot set separate volumes for incoming calls and notifications/texts.
It wasn't a huge deal, I could use Setting Profiles lite to put my phone on vibrate when I plug it into a charger, I could use a call blocker to prevent an incoming call from preventing my alarm from going off (it happens if I get a call at the same time the alarm is set to go off). But I ended up purchasing and installing ICS+ Enhanced Ringer Control, which separated volumes but didn't allow for enough customization over controls to be really convenient. It still would have generally worked well enough for me, especially since my speaker is broken and my device is automatically silent without a bluetooth speaker (so I wouldn't have to adjust ringer volume on the go), but...
Ever since installing (and subsequently uninstalling) Enhanced Ringer Control, custom vibration patterns no longer work for me - I mean they work but not for notifications/alerts. That means incoming calls and texts and e-mails are back to the same, generic, easy enough to miss patterns. I tried re-installing Smart Vibrator thinking permissions needed to be reset, but that did not work. I am assuming that re-installing Aqua Mail (which gives the option of a custom pattern for incoming e-mail) would also not work.
I e-mailed the developer of Enhanced Ringer Control, but I figured I might have better luck finding a fix here. Thanks in advance. I prefer custom vibration to "Enhanced Volume Control."

[Q] Stop the vibrate when changing sound profiles...

Hi,
First time poster and I registered just to see if I can get this question answered. My issue is that I really hate that when I change from sound to mute via the vibrate icon in the pull-down taskbar that it actually vibrates. I also hate that it vibrates when I push the volume putton down towards mute.
If im lying in bed with the Mrs and not wanting to wake her while I browse my phone i want to be able to go from sound to mute and when passing through vibrate that it actually doesnt vibrate (I dont need to be told im on that setting). There is an app called mute to do this but I wish I could disable the vibrate when changing profiles entirely. The icon tells me whether it is on vibrate or not without needing to vibrate to tell me I have moved onto the vibrate setting!! Same goes for during a meeting when I am toggling one way or the other i want to do it without making a noise. I know I could use the power button to go to silent mode but I prefer to use the dropdown menu.
With my iPhone I could have just changed a text file or something but I guess its different with android?
So essentially I only want my phone to vibrate when I am getting an alert like a call, text message, calendar alert etc and not when Im cycling through my sound profiles. Maybe Im weird and this doesnt bother anybody else but it would be great to hear if this is possible to hack?
Thanks
David

[Q] App to Bind Ringer Volume and Notification Volume

For the life of me I don't know why Samsung continues to build this way, but it is what it is. I use to use Quick Settings on my other phone but now the linking option is greyed out. I tried another app that is called Volume Control, and it kinda works but seems to be overridden by the stock changes. Has anyone found a solution to this simple but really annoying 'feature'?
I've always felt you should be able to bind media volume as well - or at least make it jump to silent when you go to vibrate or silent mode.At least you can get to it quickly with the settings icon when you change volume. On my Incredible I always had to go through the system options to bring down media volume to prevent noise before starting something.
I dislike the volume binding, the ICS leak for thunderbolt was bound together and it was annoying. I like to have only my ringer and alarm on when I sleep, I don't want to be annoyed with emails or texts. I always used Audio Manager Pro which you can create custom profiles and schedule those profiles.

[Q] Notification Profiles

Hey guys,
I apologize if this is a repost, and if it is, feel free to berate me, but I have read a lot of posts on various forums about this and still have a few questions. I am running the CleanROM Verizon SE, however I am fairly certain that this is an issue with the stock ROM as well.
Problem: I really dislike the sound settings in the Note 2.
Reasons: The volume rocker only changes the volume of the ringer, and not of the notifications. Setting the phone to vibrate really only sets the ringer to vibrate. In order for it to vibrate for SMS, I have to check Vibrate check box in the messaging app settings, which means that it also vibrates when the phone is not on vibrate (when the ringer is on, I'm not sure if it still vibrates when it is on silent)
What I (and probably many other Note 2 users) Want: The volume rocker to control every noise that comes out of the phone (phone calls, texts, gmails, other notifications) except media and alarms. When I put it on vibrate, I want everything that would make a sound if the ringer were on to vibrate (phone calls, texts, gmails). And when it is on silent, I want no noise to come out of the phone.
This is the way it was on my previous phones (Thunderbolt, Blackberry), and it is a really basic thing for Samsung and/or Google to mess up.
Question: Do you guys know of any app, mod (I am rooted), or ROM where this is fixed, and is at least somewhat close to what I want? When it comes to ROM's, I would ideally like to stay with TW, since I do enjoy the S Pen functionality and all of the other features, like multiwindow and motions.
I have read that Light Flow may have what I want, but that it has a few bugs with the Note 2.

When you click the rocker, as it is changing the ringer volume, there is a settings icon to the right of the volume. Clicking that brings up the sound settings for notifications, alarms, media, etc.
Not sure if this is as detailed as you need it. As for vibrate, not sure what you mean? Anytime I put my phone on silent, the only thing that makes any noise is the alarm (obviously) and none of my apps that would vibrate actually do vibrate when on silent. Sorry I can't help you there.
I use Lightflow for the led, but have not yet used it for the actual sound notification portion.

I know you can press the little gear icon and that gives you a few more options when it comes to sound. That does what I want when it comes to sound, but is kind of a pain in the butt. I feel like the rocker should change both the notification and the ringer volume.
For vibrate, the biggest thing is messaging and gmail. I don't want my phone to vibrate when I get a text and the sound is on. But when my phone is on vibrate, I want it to vibrate when I get a text. The setting in the stock messaging app makes it vibrate both when the sound is on and when the phone is on vibrate. As I said in the OP, I'm not sure if it also vibrates when on silent, because I don't use silent often.

Yea, I remember the Thunderbolt had the option to tie the notification volume to the ringer volume (which I think is what you talked about in OP) - unfortunately, short of setting each specific notification (a la a third party app) I'm not sure I've come across a better option. Sorry.

What third party app can do that?

I don't know of a ready-made third party app, but I have used Tasker for certain apps.
This would require a special profile to be created for each and every app. I use a special profile that controls who can call me at night when my phone is on silent, and have set up various vibrate patterns for different apps to differentiate them. I haven't used it for every app, but something like that could possibly be accomplished.
Again, not much of a ready-made solution

Ah, okay. Thanks for your help. I'll definitely keep that in mind. The only apps I would do that for are text and gmail. Tasker is kind of pricey though.
If anybody else has any other ideas, feel free to tell me!

[Q] Vibration / Sound Toggle

I am currently an iPhone 4s user and really like the way that the switch toggles between no sound (vibrate) and sound. I leave me phone in vibrate mode for most of the day and in the evening I tend to switch it to sound so I can hear the alerts from around my house when I don't have the phone with me. I am thinking about switching to an android device (S4 or HTC One) and have a few friends that haven't been able to duplicate the behavior of the iPhone. They get sound with vibration or some other weird combinations that wont work for me. Is this a limitation of the OS or is it device specific? I basically want everything to vibrate (Ringer, SMS, Email) with the option of changing everything to sound, no combinations of the two. I also need to distinguish between types of messages by using different vibration patterns.
Thanks.
Grant
I've seen several people recommend something like tasker or quick settings to setup a home screen item that would switch all apps to vibrate and one that would switch all apps to sound. Is this something that anyone has done? I really want to toggle between all sound and all vibrations with no combination of the two.
Thanks...

You help me and I help you - Mate 10 (non-pro)

OK, so I found a great app in the Play Store that allows me to have separate ringtones for Gmail, Outlook, SMS, and MMS along with various vibration modes for each. Although it does not increase the vibration intensity, by letting you choose a longer and/or pulsating pattern it shows that the phone actually does vibrate rather well, so it appears to add intensity to the vibration motor.

Now, for the you help me part: Does anyone out there have a way, or an app, that can separate the volume controls for messages and Ringtone for phone calls? I hate that my message tones are so loud when my ringtones are just right. I did create my own message tone at half volume so that helps somewhat.
My ZTE Axon 7 has this ability built in so I know it can be done! I wish Huawei would do this...anyone from Huawei listening???
So, is there an app that can do this?
Any help is appreciated!
Get Tasker. It'll do everything except make coffee for you. Once you've played with it for a short while, you'll wonder how you ever got by without it (in fact, I'm surprised every time I encounter someone who hasn't already installed it!).

So did Tasker works
Thought I answered the Tasker question....but I'm not finding it???? Oh well....I do not want to use tasker....too complicated and convoluted for what I want/need.... In fact I am no longer using any 3rd party app for ringtones at all. Since I found the proper way to set a ringtone for Gmail, and I now use Textra, and I also created another tone for messages/Textra (which I created at a lower volume) I can now have separate tones for Phone calls, Gmail, and Texts. I can turn the volume up to full for ringtone and my homemade tone for texts plays at the proper volume as if I had two volume sliders instead of just one. Problem solved for me! Thanks though for the suggestion!
