Guys, I have a Micromax A87 or Mito A78 which doesn't have a forum on XDA. I'm trying to make CyanogenMod for the phone. The problem is... Micromax or Mito didn't release source for the phone. Can I build CM without Source or should I try to Port CM from another similar device --- HTC Desire, which has the same resolution.

sure ,you can. you can search for the same plantform and screen resolution.
your gonna need a device with the same internals (or cherry pick from different devices) or many things wont work. do a google search for your processor and see what other devices run it, and compare to see if source is out for those similar devices. you can always fork a repo and modify code, even just rom cook if you cant source build.

DO NOT USE Micromax A110's ROM on other phone. It may lead to major damage.

Thanks for the reply, I know that place and I have tried many different ROMs already, infact there are so many to leave anyone confused so I dropped this request to get benefited from others experience and try those ROMs someone might suggest. btw I did find one quite good ROM already MicroKat .

To have Ubuntu touch on our device we need to have Kernel Sources which micromax have not released yet(correct me if I am wrong). I saw once Kumar Abhishek was mentioning about CINK FIVE Kernel sources which we might can use for our device(I am not sure, just sharing what I have read), but I am not sure if anybody started kernel development for our device(As of I know no news yet)
Also Ubuntu Touch is still have BUGS.
Coming to ubuntu experience, search for Complete Linux installer (If I am right a116 have a thread for it) which give you access to Desktop Ubuntu on your device. (like running a Linux Virtual Machine in your machine)

After screwing up touch panel, I was looking for A116 kernel source to get Focaltech touch panel driver. I found another mobile IQ451 which is built on same Tinno S9201 platform on which MMX A116 is done. Both are same mobile handset except end manufacturer cover
I have shared kernel source code and Android file system for IQ451, which can be easily used for A116, as both are same mobile platform from Tinno Mobile. I working on to build it and prepare custom rom, so that we can have Micromax A116 source code fully. I am working on building FT5206/5316 driver to get touch panel working.

ATM there is no AOSP but some people are working on it..
as till then u can use carbon rom which is close to aosp look

Dude cyanogen is best ..for rooted device . we can over clock a116 and is best stable os if cyanogen ROM is developed for this device. No cyanogen ROM yet 4 a116. I have used many custom ROM .but I have heared tat cyanogen is best 1.

well the reason behind micromax devices not having CM roms is, the kernel sources for the MEDEIA TEK MTK processors which are used in our phone isnt available since neither micromax nor MTK is ready to make it public. With out these sources, you cant have overclocking and other CM features ..!!
SO wait for it..!!
Sony have relased some sources, there are devs already on this.
Pray to god that it comes soon..!!

If sources of CM is coming, thats great and welcome. But I think CM team still does not support Dual Sim. The source cannot help for dual sim phones based on MTK65XX. This is not unnecessarily being a begative remark but this is discussed many a times in at least dozens of times and places.
Still, may be someone proves me wrong, by making directly the first CM with dual sim for A116, I will appreciate him/her. Best of Luck :good: to all devs.
PS: If non-mtk chipset roms like Samsung can be ported for many Micromax models, then technically any rom can be ported. But still, the cm source will give single sim rom.
Some discussions read before in xda, but its almost a year before discussion. May be something new has come.
Even if You Get Source it Will be Very hard to Compile Bugless CM......
Faea Team Is Currently Working on it once they done then it can be ported to any mt6589 phone

If you could have read my post, i have already shared the stock rom link.
Don't try to be oversmart. You should tell the truth to others to save their times as well as devs time due to stupid questions coming at later stage.
