Any thoughts?
The ONLY area it seems to work is to power up the device.
I cannot do the following by pressing it or holding it...
1.) Wake device up
2.) Pull up the shutdown menu
3.) Hold down to power off device
...and most importantly...
4.) cannot select options in CWM (but if I hold volume and power it'll get me into CWM)
Any idea how to flash it back to stock? I have a jig if that helps. Thanks.
Currently the only way I can wake the phone is to plug into a charger.
This had happened to me like 3 times. What I did in order to get back to work, was opening the phone and blast some air with those cans of compressed air use for computers.

Most likely the power button is going bad. I get these a lot. I can solder a new power button on for $50 including return shipping. You can email me @ seivad17 [at] msn.com

"Go to youtube and search how to dissemble, there are couple of video that shows a step by step process of dissembly. Now the only problem is that there isnt a specific video locating the lock button and you will have to find that yourself. So after you dissemble your phone, locate the lock and use CRC QD Electronic Cleaner I read that is the most reliable and decent one out of all sprays and all you need to do is spray around the button area, and push the lock button 20-30 times and repeat the process a couple of times. After that you should let it dry for a couple of min and then put your phone back together and it should work fine!."
This worked for me. I found it in the captivate forums. Been going 1 month strong after the cleaning!

okay I'll check that out. How about the USB port? I need a solid connection to the computer. If that's the case I can jig it, place it in download mode, and re-install my ROM and get out of the boot loop I have the phone is in. The power button then is irrelevant because I'm sure I can set the phone to wake with the volume keys thus eliminating the need for the power button. That's the other issue (and more important issue). Otherwise, I have a paper weight.

If you fix the power button and you can get into CWM (like your first post says) then you should have no problem. The power button is probably shorted out (like mine was) and you cannot use it for selection.

no I can no longer get into CWM
Short story I tried returning phone to stock and went to flash a stock image file via ODIN and it's stuck on the bootup screen.

Hi All,
I have flashed EUViewPad 7 based on Stock rom. installed SD Card Booster, CPU Master and etc.
The flash is fine since I managed to boot it and install several apps.
Until I needed to reboot the device since the hacker keyboard always forces to close. I rebooted it and poof I am in infinite boot animation without a way to remove the battery. afraid to fiddle just waited the battery to drain so I can test again(This happened on my O1. just removed the battery, put it back and its ok)
I have drained the battery after almost 8 hours of non stop boot animation. But this device won't turn on anymore. It just vibrates when I press the on button.
Tried opening the back(crap I have scratched the back covering. now it has large scratches ) but the battery is taped . My question folks is what is the possible solution to my problem aside from removing the battery(can't even get to clockword recovery)
Thanks
Not too sure about your device, but doesn't yours have a reset button like the viewpad?
Should be a small hole on the bottom edge right next to the microphone.
Try pressing that with a paperclip if you're having boot problems.
Anyway, if you've drained the battery completely, make sure to leave it charging for a little while. Too low battery voltage will make it unable to start. 15 mins or so should be more then enough.
Try starting with both volume buttons + power pressed. Keep holding it until you see "entering recovery mode."
Let me know if this gives any results.

Ahh I have that reset button beside the microphone hole. Will try this later on. Thanks for your help and for your custom rom
Uh oh... Tried pressing the small hall beside microphone, pressed on button. No luck. tried pressing that hole and on at the same time No luck again.
Is it possible that it will mess up the whole boot process due to boot animation loop??

I'm afraid and it sounded like, from your descriptions, that the boot process has been messed up .... so, what do you got to lose by trying to "wake" it up or at least respond to commands, right ?
Try holding the power button & use a small pin to press RESET - leave it connected to the power supply/charging unit.
Try holding both volume Up & Down key & use a small pin to press RESET
Try holding both volume Up & Down key along with the Power button at the same time, and press RESET (you might want to get someone to help you to this)
Try holding the volume Down (left) key & Power button, and press RESET with a small pin.
Does any of these work in getting the screen to show life, be patient as you might have to hold it for 10 to 30 seconds before it cycle & restart/display the 3 birds ...
Chances are you will need to flash a stock ROM with the SULT3 utility, and then if successful, root it again & start over (carefully) - it might work or it might not even connect via usb at all .... worth a try, got nothing to lose at this point.
As a last resort, contact Cherry Mobile and get it repaired & sending it back to the shop .... check the warranty details in your locale, opening the rear case & exposing the battery, might or might not void your warranty coverage.
Hi Letiride,
I have tried the combinations you have specified but no avail. I can't boot this so my PC with correct drivers cannot even recognize i plugged this.
Is my Tablet already bricked?? I have bought this second hand so no warranty already.
Huhuhu Did I already have one of the "Vibrator" Android phone

Oh mine, no - if it won't power up or boot into Recovery or FTM mode, I'm afraid it's critical if not officially certified "paperweight". Try uninstalling your PC's usb drivers for the device, or use another computer & install SUTL3 utility from Viewsonic, and see if it can at least beep & signal some USB sequence loading the drivers.
Here's a link to Droid Explorer posted elsewhere in XDA (instead of pointing you to "Search" for it) Install it if you can get the yours powered on, but use it with care as it's a very "powerful" tool to explore all the hidden workings of the Android device(s).

My feeling is that the core image & boot file(s) were corrupted, damaged & overwritten, and it need to be reformatted & reflashed from a stock *.nb0 file, someone with adb might be able to - maybe, just maybe - rescue it.
Let's see if one of our fellow developers might have a better solution on where to begin b/c this is about as far as I can offer - well, you can always put on eBay for parts & hoped you didn't spend a lot as 2nd. hand.
Uhhh looks like i have no other choice but to have this repaired at service center and pay
My issue is as stated as above. I presume my phone has this feature disabled, making this phone near useless for me.
Tried having phone completely off and holding down volume down + home + power like in the videos, to no avail.
I've come from a Galaxy 3 which automatically started up download mode during the boot sequence.
Is there a way to root my phone without Odin or enter download mode with another method? Can't use "reboot download" in terminal as it's not rooted.
I haven't found any topics quite like my issue here. My phone is a international Galaxy III with label being exactly I9300. Any help is appreciated.
You could buy usb jig that will sort it iv never heard of this issue ever

Interesting, atleast there's something to fall back on if there are no other solutions.
Postage to New Zealand would be horrendous.
Please confirm it doesn't work in the following order.
- Make sure you have no case on the phone.
- Power off the phone
- Unplug it from the charger
- Remove the battery for 30 seconds
- Press and hold Volume-Down and center hardware button.
Make sure both buttons are proplery pressed, and the center button is pressed in the middle.
- Press the power button, and release it when the logo appears. Keep the other 2 buttons pressed
- Wait for it to boot
If it doesn't work, try repeating 2 times starting at the top.
If it still doesn't work something is faulty. Check if all the buttons work as expected.
Thank you very much d4fseeker, the battery out was the crucial thing I was doing wrong.
It shouldn't be necessary (and usually isn't) but I've seen on multiple occasions that Samsung phones sometimes don't react to the Download mode or Recovery mode when normally powered down.
Pretty sure I overheated the phone last night, and now the power button doesn't work. I fell asleep with it in my pocket, I got a call from my wife early in the AM, after the call I found the screen wouldn't turn off. So today, I've tried an app or two to replace the power button, tried a 3 hour battery pull, and in a brief instance of idiocy, decided to reboot into recovery to try and wipe everything and see if that would do anything - now I am stuck in CWM Recovery w/out any working power button so I cannot even exit. I've tried pulling the battery again and it just reboots into recovery.
Any tips on how to get it out? I want to pull my pictures and info, wipe the phone then sell it on ebay - What would I need to do?
if it is a custom recovery you can use ADB while booted into recovery.
adb pull /sdcard
Has anyone had a problem with just the power button not working at all anymore?
My SII had the problem recently that the power button just does not work, so I can no longer wake the phone up after the screen has shut off. I'm guessing it is a hardware problem because I even restored it all the way back to stock.
Does anyone know how hard it is to replace the button if it is bad?
I had my power button fail for several days on me (it has since started workign fine again tho). I was in a similar place but when pulling battery, my phone would reboot normally so i could at least use my phone while on the charger. I know that pulling battery, holding volume up/down and reinserting will boot you into recovery so i'm wondering if your volume button is messed up too? can you navigate up and down in recovery with the volume keys?
I had to get my button working to position myself to avoid the issue but I'm now pretty much power button free and running siyah kernel (touch recovery) and i use the Stweaks swipe to unlock feature, rootbox rom with a power menu toggle, and a lock screen widget so i don't have to use my power button at all. Again, i had to get my power button working to flash the kernel though maybe you can push the kernel with odin then you'll have the touch recovery to try wipes and resets with?
edit: here is a link of tearing down a 9100. I think our power button is the same- unfortunately it looks like you have to solder the new one in.
I couldn't find the part# for the i777 (or confirm if it's the same as the 9100) but the power button for the 9100 is KEY FPCB-POWER KEY(GT_9100) GH59-10916A and is about $5 online
here's a vid of the breakdown, he's replacing the screen but browses over the power/volume keys too.

Hey guys,
This is a possible fix for anyone who is experiencing all of the following issues. If you are NOT experiencing all of these issues then my fix is most likely not the cause of your problem.
1) Can't boot into ROM (phone will get no farther than GALAXY S III logo)
2) Can't boot into RECOVERY (phone will try to boot into recovery but will never make it)
3) Can't boot into DOWNLOAD (you may get as far as the caution screen but phone will turn off)
4) Phone starts, then turns off after about 3 seconds.
The solution that worked for me involves the power switch. It turns out that the reason you are unable to boot is because your power button is constantly being pressed due to a "sticky" button. This is a hardware flaw with only a temporary solution.
Steps to FIX issue.
1. Use fingernail to gently remove POWER BUTTON from phone. Notice that the bumps in the middle of the button are a little off-center.
2. Use a pair of fine tip tweezers to gently PULL on the yellowish/white POWER SWITCH inside the phone.
3. Test the fix by reinserting the battery. If the phone doesn't auto boot then press the POWER SWITCH with the end of your tweezers.
4A. If phone continues to power cycle then return to step 2.
4B. If phone properly boots then reinsert the POWER BUTTON with bumps in the middle aligned with the POWER SWITCH. If you don't align the bumps then the button will not function properly.
Once again, if this fix did not work for you then your problem is most likely in software (bootloader) and not hardware.
Hope this helps someone. Cheers!
Nice to see someone posting something new, glad it worked for you. It would be a good idea to put a caveat that the fix may invalidate a warranty that would otherwise replace the power switch free of charge
The sticky power button will apply to relatively few and though a last chance fix noway round the fact that the phone will fail warranty .
Probably worth trying for those with constant reboots .I would personally try to hold the power button out first if i thought that was the problem .
Is there any software or commands I could use to diagnose my phone over USB? The screen is black, even during boot (no logos), but the phone is still working in the background. The notification LED blinks normally, menu and back button lights up when pressed, and it even rings when someone calls, though I can't see who it is b/c of the black screen. The screen is not cracked or damaged, and I didn't drop it, so not sure why this is happening. I want to test the GPU or other components before I put down a lot of money for a new screen and it no resolve the issue.
Phone is a rooted SM-N910V that has been working great for 3 months.
Thank you!

Hi , try with key kombination .
1. Make sure your phone is OFF
2.Now Press toghether Vol + and power button and hold like that until second vibration (reboot)
3. If that doesn't work try with another combination .
Vol - and Power button
Vol + & Home button & Power button for about 10 second
Vol - & Home button & Power button for about 10 second
Good Luck

Thanks for the suggestions, though I have already tried all those plus other things.
I've left the battery out for over a day, removed sim card, held power button in to drain any residue power.
I'm lost as to why all of sudden the black screen. Hoping there's a way to test the phone to confirm if its the lcd or something else like the gpu chip. On a laptop you could plug a monitor in the vga port, don't guess phones have this option

I read that the phone was rooted so maybe that custom rom has some bug and that way you get black screen .
Try to flash him back to stock firmware and see if the problem is solved .
It is just rooted on the standard firmware, I didn't install any custom firmwares. But I was wondering if I could possibly reflash it from a backup I made with twrp. I cant get to recovery, well actually I could if I new the exact steps since everything works, I just cant see crap.
Is this even possible or is there another way to access twrp over the usb?
