I have tried different file explorers including ES File Explorer (my first choice). They all have really slow file transfer speeds when copying files from my computer to my HOX+. 600kB/s is the fastest I have seen.
Here is the odd part, when running DLNA server, other devices can pull large videos from my phone over WiFi at speeds of 15-20 Mbps (around 1.5 MB/s+).
I have tried disabling power saver options and enabling best wifi performance setting. I have stood right next to the router with the phone. Nothing seems to work.
Anyone have any ideas?
PS: Running Elegancia 5.1 but I'm fairly certain this isn't a ROM issue. I"m guessing it is a SMB/windows network sharing protocol problem.

Try using app Airdroid.. Hope this helps..
Thank me if you find my post as useful
It did not improve my transfer speeds in ES File Explorer.
Does anyone know if transferring over FTP would make a difference? I'm not quite sure how to setup an FTP drive on my network or I would try it first.

I just stumbled across the best way to transfer files I've found yet. BitTorrent Sync. It's super easy to setup...just scan a QR code generated on your computer to sync up. Then drag and drop files and they transfer using the torrent protocol rather than smb or something similar which maxes out transfer speeds as fast as your wifi and device can handle. My current setup maxes out and about 4.0 MB per second, which is way way better than I was getting transferring with ES File Explorer.
I use that for my offsite storage, but I didn't think about it for my phone. I'll try it. Thanks.

Just got 6.5 MB/S when transferring large files...this is an awesome app. I can send huge files in minutes to friends phones around the world...plus auto backup my videos to my computer with out ever using a cable. I've also been syncing app data between devices to sync up all my phones and tablets. Can't praise this app enough...plus your data doesn't reside on a server.

Glad you've discovered it. I'm always finding new uses for it. Now I keep full backups of my internal and external sdcard over wifi while I sleep every night. It's been months since I've even used a USB cable. My Note3 averages almost 10MB/s so it's actually bumping up against the bottleneck of the sdcard speed. I haven't found anything close to this speed. I wish more people were using it, spread the word!

Bittorent Sync is awesome in this regard.
in ES File explorer, my speeds max out at ~750kBps, but Bittorent Sync gives 2MBps!
Do you know any other clients which uses same protocol as Bittorent Sync (I guess torrent protocol).

Not that I'm aware of, for transferring personal files. I mean, there's mobile apps for Bit-torrent clients (to run P2P sharing) but that's all I know about. It's also quick to just send your buddy the QR code generated by a folder to send secure encrypted files to anyone around the world without them residing on companies' servers. They just scan it with their phone and bam they get the whole folder direct instead of accross dropbox or Google Drive servers. I take a lot of HD Videos on my phone and it's the only simple way to share them easily with my non-tech savvy friends. Short videos can easily be a few hundred MB's and too big for email. Glad the days of setting up FTP servers are behind me!

usenet donload rates are direct from a server, i dont know what newsgroup or who you signed up with but dowload rates just from Sabnzbd was as fast as my internet provider could go. Pc couldnt even write to the disk so it would pause and wait for CP to write then proceed downloading. Im just looking for something good on Android. but i guess its fine grabbing nzb files, then downloading them once i reach home. This has been out since the 80's i think, and the best places to find anything are private sites that come and go. meanwhile torrents rates are just beyond slow. There are some good free ones out there, may not give much retention and so on but speeds still the same. IF anyone know of anything better nowadays id appreciate. Thanks to all the talented, creative minds here.

Hi all,
Just out of curiosity does anyone here use X10 devices and more importantly use HomeSeer?
I've almost finished my Home Automation app for Android and may be looking for some testers.
Thanks Matt.
Yes, I do.
Wow, I shure want to test this.
I use the "old" version of Homeseer. I'm at work now, and don't know the version number.
It should work fine with either 1.5 or 2. You just need the web interface enabled and you need to copy a script into the html folder on the pc.
I've got a couple of things I know about which I need to fix first but then it would be good to get someone elses opinion. It does exactly what I wanted it to do (obviously) but you may have ideas which you would like implented.
Seems to work really well though. I can control my whole house from the phone now and best of all the layouts are all done dynamically so you don't have to sit there for ages designing your GUI like I used to with netremote on windows mobile.

Hi Matt,
I do indeed! Would love to have access from my hero. Homeseer is a great piece of software!! Any chance of having a test at it?
I've got a couple of things I need to do, a confirmation box on the delete device/event menu, and a background image on the add device screen as I;ve had a weird problem with the scrollview squashing the background picture when the virtual keyboard displays on the screen.
Once i've done this I'll get together a tme limited beta so you can all have a look and make any suggestions.
If all is ok then i'm gonna put this one on the market for a couple of quid and see if people like it.
I know it's not going to be a big seller as it is currently limited to homeseer and I really can't be bother to write a full HA app for the pc .
Homeseer does everything I need but the web interface is far to clunky for th mobile. I know you can use the touchpad interface but I find having coded real buttons and UI speeds things up so it is actually usual.
I'll keep you all informed. I may do some screen grabs later to show you what i'm working on.

Matt this looks great! I'd love to give this a trial. I'd pay for this if it's as good as it looks. Can we get a time limited trial?
Hi, Sorry for the delay in replying i've been a bit busy the last few weeks.
I've sorted out pretty much all the things I needed to for Version 1. Just need to sort out one last thing and then I'll do a time limited beta for those interested.
I also need to write some simple manuals to show how to set it all up. It really is quite simple. I expect there are many other features that I could include but I just want it to be quicj to configure and I want it to work! I used it for all my x10 stuff over the last couple of months and it works flawlessly in my environment.
On the pc side all you need to do is copy a single script file info the homeseer folder. I'll prob package this up as an MSI to make things easier for people.
Thanks for the interest.
Matt.
Excellent Matt. Will we be able to use this over the data network or will it be wifi only? I'm constantly having problems with homeseer on the standard hero browser with lockouts.
Hi,
Ok, a very good question and one that I already have asked myself.
At the moment you enter the web address of the homeseer web server nto droidseer for it to send the commands to. This address can either be a internal ip address which can then be used over wifi or an external address (dyndns, no-ip etc) that can be accessed from gprs/3g.
I seem to remember that if you try to access an external address using a dyndns/no-ip address from your internal network it doesn't work always as you get your external ip address back which can't be accessed from your inside network.
I'll have to do some testing as i'm even confusing myself here!
I think my final idea was to be able to configure multiple addresses to connect to the homeseer server, if one fails it will try the next. This way if you are home on wifi it will use the inernal address, if you are away from home it will use the external adresss.
Simples!
Matt.
Sounds good Matt! Like i said i have issues with the standard browser using dyndns. Not sure why but it would seem the browser does not retain its password info for homeseer and after 3 connects you get locked out. When your using homeseer and the android browser across gprs/3G and dyndns do you experience this problem? I'm led to believe it's a security feature in homeseer to stop unauthorised access. Not sure if SSL connection would resolve this. I have the same problem using safari on the iphone. Windows mobile does not seem to have this problem as my experia worked perfectly.
Cheers,
John
Hi all,
I believe I now have a version ready for some real world testing. It works fine in my environment and I use it everyday so we'll see how it goes.
It is a fully featured Time Limited version that will expire on the 1st December so it gives you a while to have a play around and see what you think.
There is an APK file for install on your phone, a script file that needs to be copied onto the pc running homeseer and a PDF Manual explaining how to set it all up.
If you are interested in giving it a test then please PM me with your e-mail address and what version of Homeseer you are using just so I know what it has been tested on.
Thanks for your interest.
Matt.

Ok,
Droidseer Beta is now live on the Android Market in Beta form ready for some testing for whoever wants to give it a go!
The website is now live too at http://www.spvsoft.co.uk/droidseer
There you'll find everything you need to know including the User Guide.
Hope you like it and be sure to let me know what you think!
Matt.
Off topic here, but someone know if there is a WM app too for X10 automation?
I used to use Promixis NetRemote and the HSGirder plugin for Homeseer. It worked fine but you had to completely design your own interface in the designer program and the buttons are all hard coded. So when you add a new device to your system you have to edit your design and add the new button. That was the main reason why I designed DroidSeer to be Dynamic.
Get an Android device I used to always have WinMo devices ever since the first SPV but Microsoft missed out on the whole app market thing and I think they are a little too late to the game now. Most developers have moved on the iphone or android now.

it is worth to try, bause i am working with a lot of IPcam stuff for hospitals on child stations. Will report back here.
I was looking for something like this a while back, will give it a try as it should save taking a web-cam away on business.
Will try out and let you know. First thing, would prefer cab install option if possible I know there are client drivers needed for windows side too I guess).
Noticed that the video overlay for the camera does not go when the program is closed. So far I've not been able to connect, but this is probably due to my network config at the moment (so will retry later).

I think you connect via the webcam driver settings. i.e. VLC
Media -> Open Capture Device
Select Video device name - it should be in the list
Configure - Will open if the device is present and you should be able to press connect. You might see it pop up a message on your device when you do (too quick to read - i guess connecting etc).
Hopefully you'll get the images coming through (I get coloured striped display but that is probably due to the network I'm currently on has proxies etc).
I tried to use it on my HTC HD2 running Artemis 58 with radio 2.15......
I cannot seem to connect it to my computer via WiFi. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for the help.

I use it a very long time now for parents who's childs are in a hospital. We have installed some axis ptz cams (4x) in a hospital near my home city (~ 20 KM). We advise this to the parents for the mobile device or via a website on the PC. I have informed rccolonel some time ago to have a special version, but i think he is no longer online or busy with android. So i hope he will read this .

rc-camera differs to this app since it's for using an ip-camera and the phone as a monitor, where this one attempts to use the phone's camera as the web-cam. I like the idea, but so far it doesn't work the way I've tried it (clearly it's not trivial thing to code).
BTW:
Well (to be slightly off topic here) I'll let you know if I get on with an Android app I have planned which will be suitable for children reading, might end up being of use. Can't get a better cause than that to be involved with!

I've installed ES File Explorer on my Prime under the impression it will let me browse my shared files and folders on my laptop. So I go to the 'LAN Shares' page in ES and run a scan. My laptop shows up, but when I click on it I get the error 'Login failure. Try new user name/password?' Thing is, I don't have a password on my laptop... so how do I get around this?
Also, on Windows 7 how do I make sure I'm properly set-up for file sharing?
I think you just right click on c or your doc folder and you see sharing options. ES is working great for me. I do believe you have to make the computer open to the world, so remember to stop sharing if it is a laptop you take away from home.
when on the main ES explorer screen...
1. swipe your finger to the left..
2. add a "server" in this case your PC IP address with user/passwd if needed
3. if any shares are available on your PC they will get listed right away...
hope it helps.

Yes I've done that, but my problem is that I don't have a username or password on my laptop but ES keeps asking for it!
Create a user on the laptop called share with the password share or something.
Then give the diesired folder access-rights to this user.

How did u created the shares?
Is the "everyone" group listed as having access rights on the "Shared" folders you're sharing?
I don't think you understand. Your username is literally your user name. It's your user account. If you don't have a password for your user account, you still need to enter the "login name" for your user account whether it be the default "Administrator" or "User" and leave the password field empty.
My user name in Windows is buymecar. My login password is ilovexda. You get where I'm going with this?

Right.... and make sure that "Anonymous" has rights to access the shares. That will be under your Local Policy settings if you want to go that deep.
Okay got it working, thanks for the help guys. The problem was that all my media is on an external hard drive. In case anyone else has this problem and stumbles upon this thread, here's what I did:
1. Right clicked the external hdd and went to sharing tab. At the bottom it said that I had password protection on, so I followed the instructions there to disable it.
2. The 'Share' button in the sharing tab was greyed out so I had to go into advanced sharing and check 'Share this folder'.
3. I then went into the security tab of the properties pane and gave my user account all permissions. My user account is the only account and therefore has admin rights, so I don't know why I had to do this.
4. I then created a new username called 'everyone', and gave it all permissions.
5. Clicked okay and close, and I could then access it via ES on my prime.
The reason I didn't mention the hdd in the OP is because at that point I couldn't access the laptop at all. Once I did the above everything worked. I think having password protection on was preventing me from getting into my laptop at all, as I don't have any passwords in windows.
Thanks for the help! I now have access to all my media on my prime. Good times.
EDIT. Turns out the username 'everyone' doesn't need all permissions. I didn't like the idea of 'everyone' having full control over my hdd so I changed the permissions to just allow reading and writing, no modifying etc. Still works.
Cool beans....

There is currently no tablet app that I know of that test speed (wifi analyzers scan wifi signal strength) but speedtest app can test you internet connection. For local speed, you can transfer a big file and look at the transfer rate. Ideally, the between 1-2 meters away for the router is the best.
"When testing throughput do it ~1 meter from the AP and test between a wireless client and a wired client. Doing it far away/behind walls/downstairs/etc will have reduced rates and is a different problem to solve. Being extremely close can lower performance by overloading the receiver" -dd-wrt.com
Wireless G is 54 Mbits/s but real world test is ~22 Mbits/s down and ~2.5 Mbit/s....720p streams at 2.5 Mbit/s (for VC-1 and lower formats) up to 5Mbit/s (for H.264 and better quality formats) so it depends on a lot of things. Short answer yes. BUT if you source is on wifi too rather than LAN then there is a high chance that it won't be smooth. Also depending on whether you are the only one connected, the router brand, how good your source is, etc. 720p on 802.11g is hit and miss (mostly miss) so consider a wireless N 300M/bits router
All this can be found on google (feel free to correct me) and please click THANKS if this helped you.
That makes a lot of sense. The file I've been using is a high quality .mkv file, so that's probably the issue.
google is great, here are some good resources for a beginner:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-7/share-files-and-printers-between-windows-7-and-xp/
http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/wi...-windows-7-with-the-shared-folder-wizard/3180
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/7412-guest-account-turn-off.html
If you do use a password ES has problems with non alphanumeric characters sometimes.
ES gives access to network shares by buffering the files via an internal webserver, this means it significantly reduces performance. If you want to watch HD mkv's I would recommend using CifsManager:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442928&highlight=cifsmanager
I use it with MX player or Dice and have no issues watching 1080 mkv movies over wireless g if I'm not too far from the access point.
---------- Post added at 08:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:20 PM ----------
As a note "not to far" is roughly upto about 35 feet for G or 50 for N for me with 1080.
Even if you move to wireless N, ES file explorer will not perform as well as CifsManager with HD videos.
Never share your OS drive. Just share a folder(s) that are on your OS drive. Give anonymous access to these particular folders, so when any client that looks for shared folders they will see these folders there. Shouldn't have to input any log in information at all.
breakshift, I am trying also to access my external hdd on my Prime. I followed your steps, but still cannot determine the correct username and password combination. What did you end up using?
Well since I did what I described in that post, it all works. Are you able to connect to the computer at all? Or is it just when you try to go into the HDD it refuses you?
ES doesn't ask for a username or password at all for me anymore. Does it prompt you for that info? If so, do you have a password set up on your user account on your computer?
When I try to watch videos using es file explorer on mg galaxy s2, sometimes it connects and sometimes it doesn't. If I restart my desktop pc, it will work for about half an hour then fail to login again.
This is what I'm always getting, https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B90aBBkpJZ8tS3NINU9fbDBDUzA/edit would appreciate it someone can help.
I'm using windows 7 pro 64bit
Everyone else in my family can stream the shared files with their windows laptop.
After restarting my computer(the pc with the shared files), my brother and I can stream for about 30 minutes, then I have to restart my pc again.
I have a password on my pc, but even when I put it in the edit server options it still doesn't work. I'm thinking it may be a firewall or router setting?
There is a new app floating around in the I9100 forum called box . http://www.box.com/ it is very similar to drop box but for the next 30 days you get 5 gb free when you create a free account and they upgrade it to 50gb if you sign in from the android , after the 30 days you still keep the 50gb. I just tested it out and sure enough I now have 50 gb of storage. enjoy

Thanks!
I just got the upgrade. This is awesome
Its been out for a while, even more co-workers use it.
I personally like Dropbox for the sync feature, other than that Box.net is good for large files.

Not really, under the free version, dropbox let's you upload files up to however much space you have through the desktop version, and 300 MB through the site itself.
On the other hand, if you have the free version of box.com, you can only upload files up to 100MB in size. And then if you pay for the service, your file upload limit is 2GB. Which is peanuts in some cases.
I still signed up for box.com. I'm hoping that they will increase the file upload size in the future. Till then, I'll keep it around for whatever comes up.

Agreed re: the file size restriction for uploads - but with the total amount of space available, I can fit all my music and pics on Box - which will free up a good chunk of my space on dropbox and minus for the bigger single files. Guess I need to get around to organizing all my crap that's stored in the cloud somewhere...

Following your advice I archived my dropbox on box in 100MB rar volumes
Thanks for this! Now I'll use dropbox for small stuff and box for big files.
Awesome. Thanks for the heads up.
i got my 50GB free upgrade but what really kills it is that you need to pay for the business version in order to get the auto folder sync. Its a pain to use the website to upload files all the time, especially when i'm constantly changing the files in my folders that I'm syncing with sugarsync, right now.
i'm glad I got the free 50GB upgrade but I'll stick with sugarsync until box releases that autosync for free.
Yea jus sucks that they cap you at 10gb bandwidth and 100mb attachments. still 50GB for free is nothing to complain about. I'm gonna sort my dropbox and then archive it to BOX... JIC.
Seriously though at least let me get 256-512mb attachments if you're gonna give me 50 gigs to play with.
Worked for me too.

Try foldersync. I been using it for months, works great. You can set it up to add only the new files in what ever folder you want to sync. I'm using the pro version.

yeah i hear ya. I'm not complaining about the 50GB free upgrade - thats amazing to give away (although it doesnt cost them anything because they make their money off the increased upload limit prices and things like that).
anyway, 100MB limit doesnt even give me enough space to upload a ROM that I'm using (if I wanted to save it myself). I paid to upgrade my sugarsync account and I'm happy with it.

Supposedly they have webDAV so you can access your online files via a network share in windows or other OS. I'll check it tomorrow and post instructions or a link if it works.
Sent via XDA app
I found the instructions for setting up WebDAV with Box.net and Windows at this link:
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/upload-files-awesome-boxnet-windows-explorer/
I just tried it out and it works. I'm using the https connection and it is a little slow. This should also work for Mac and Linux; offhand I don't know how to setup WebDAV links on either.
So, this means you can use a folder synchronization tool to sync your files locally and on Box.net. On Windows I usually use SyncToy for this but there's other options too.
Hmmm. What do u mean sign in from the android? Just created account from phone and and says I have 5 gb of storage..which is cool. Dont get me wrong thanks for posting this
NM...figured it out. Got 50gb through market. Been one of those days, and a major blonde moment lol

So, today im back with another guide, today ill be teaching you how to turn your Android TV Box into a personal Cloud!
A few of you may ask, why? Well theres a few reasons
1. These devices run off a 5v power supply
2. For the price they are, its definately the cheapest alternative to purchasing cloud space
3. For the specs, they are quite impressive
4. Not only can you use wifi, but these devices have LAN aswell
So for anyone who wants to do this, simply check out my youtube video, it takes a total of less than 2 minutes to set up(Deducting all my explaining)!
https://youtu.be/D_yPGkAmtII
Step by step -
1. Download and install SSHDroid on your device from the playstore or link below
2. Open the app, if the service is not started, click start at the top right, the status should change to ready
3. Download the setup server files i created from below and open the SetupServer.bat file
4. The script will prompt you for an IP address, in the SSHDroid app besides address you will see something like [email protected]:2222 your IP address is inbetween "[email protected]" and ":2222", in this case 192.168.1.109, type it in and press enter
5. You will notice 2 scripts are generated from that and a file, you can then run the CloudFileManager.bat or the CloudTerminal.bat depending if you wanna upload/download files from your cloud or do things within terminal
If you do wanna access the server from your device, you can download ESFileExplorer, open it and open the FTP tab
Click "add" and choose SFTP, then input the details that the script generated in details.txt
You can then transfer files between your phone and cloud!
Here are the files i said i would share for this

I'd never even thought of that but been looking for an option of network storage. This could be perfect as I have a few spare boxes. I'll let you know how it goes
Okay got it mostly setup and can access via my desktop. Just trying to work out a way to make it network accessible to Kodi on my main android box. Same network of course

I get home in a few hours, i will figure it and let you know
Definately a worthy solution to a cheap cloud storage
Any luck figuring that out?
I used Armbian+apache2(with PHP7.2)+Nextcloud server before but your cloud is runing on Android right? This is good idea. May be need a NAS drive like 2TB for storage. Android devices got poor wifi performance. I recomend LAN connection for cloud.

seems to be very minimal difference between WIFI and LAN, im guessing its using the hardware at its limit, i got 2.9mbps upload speed while the Beeting S1 was using an SSD as primary storage(apollo lake processor and 4GB RAM with Samsung evo SSD)
if i find a way to improve performance i will let you know, i just feel using TV box as a cloud server is a very efficient way of doing things for both the price, simplicity and flexibillity
My box has gigabit lan and I don't agree with you
There are good webservers for android that support php/database. I guess we can install Nextcloud. I'll try at my spare time.

What im saying is i think its a hardware limitation, the processors and the amount of RAM your device has will surely limit speeds(Upload/Download) somewhat.
I just have no idea what the limit is, but then again my internet is actual trash so you may be right, who knows
What if i want to access to it when I'm not in the same network? How can I do so?

You need to open the port it uses in your modem or router. The use your external IP and the port to connect to it outside of your network. Password protect everything though to be safe.
P.S. can anyone reupload the files?
