Thats definitely a problem of drivers. You'll find those on Motorola's website.
Also you can use the search button here.

Hi.
I have an sgs 2 and when connecting it to my laptop it works fine and then my class fellow asked me to root his sgs 2 as well but upon connection to my laptop it says :
USB Device Not Recognized
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. For assistence in sorting this problem click this message.
Clicking that only shows a list of usb ports and nothing more.
I am 100% it is his sgs 2 that is faulty but just wanted to know if u guys have a solution to this problem

His SGS II spec on unrooted stock rom :
Android Version : 2.3.3
Baseband Version : I9100XXKE7
Kernel Version : 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKF3-CL276555 [email protected] #2
Build Number GINGERBREAD.XWKF3
Try a different pc as a first. Why don't you go over to his place with a usb stick full of the stuff you need. I'm guessing his SGS2 works on his pc.

This worked for me....
Open device manager with phone plugged in find the phones driver and un-install it now unplug the phone and plug it back in, it should re-install the driver.
IF that fails and you have a HTC phone Install HTC sync it will download the latest driver for you.if you dont have a HTC phone then i dont know what to say.
Your welcome if i helped
and Good luck on getting your problem resolved soon if i didnt help

As you were told on the other forums you posted this on, you need to locate the Device Manufacturer "abo" and ask them for help with the drivers. If you'd had bought a phone that wasn't from some unknown manufacturer, it would have made your life much easier.
Good luck.

I'm not a developer, so please don't ask me what the use of it is. That is for the developers to find out.
Thanks

I don't know. I thought some developers may look at it.. And may be even find it to be useful in some way
I think it was just like in windows. Some apps are not accessible during that time, i also encountered that sometime this week, you can play, call/text and browse but there is no way you can browse your storage.
It doesn't work for my Xpeia Mini..... but what does safe mode do on windows? :S

On windows most of the drivers aren't loaded in safe mode. It's normally used for troubleshooting.

even it worked in my mini tooo...
By accident even I entered the safe mode. All my 3rd party apps and widgets were disabled/not shown.

It is used to restore system incase of bootloop. Pointless because we have Recovery for that. You can't do much in safe mode unless you have added file manager to system folder, so that it can be used.

I'll be damned, it really works Thanks for the info!

and I tried that, but for some reason, after turning on the usb tethering, it disconnects as it was and the device manager gives me a notification of new hardware named Xperia and can't install them. Tried to install it manually with the drivers from the PC Companion, but they didn't work.
Here is what I get for it on the Device Manager.

Did you try this??
I tried it and got it working on MIUI based on CM.....
I was hoping to use native tethering, because I'm still a little skeptic about these kind of apps. Still thank you, if there isnt any other way, will try yours.

You CAN use native tethering. I ran into the same problem. I just did forced install of RNDIS driver on my Win7 x64 to "Xperia" device.
