[Q] Ad blocking hosts file messup

I have been using the hosts file from the Adeo rom to block ads on my atrix. I no longer use the rom but just the one file. Before updating to 4.1.57 I reverted to the original hosts file thinking that was why my update was not working. (later found out I had not succesfuly removed the webtop mod)
When I went to put it back I accidentaly replaced the hosts file located in /etc instead of the one in /system/etc.
Should I be concerned and will this cause issues with my device? Also could someone email me or upload the original /etc/hosts file?
Thanks in advance.

pleaase help how to disable adblock

So I installed this cool cmiui rom its the best one I ever found, but the rom has ad block, how do I disable it. Here's the link to he from I installed for galaxy s2 i9100:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704387
Probably in /system/app there is AdFree apk or similar. If you want to disable it, delete the file.

There's no adblock.apk in /system/app
Check "All" tab in Settings > Applications. Maybe you will find there something.

I don't think there's a way to turn it off I guess I need to find another good rom like this.

This is because the host file of that ROM has been patched by the the developer so as to disable ad.
People suggesting you check if an adblocker was installed on your phone are only misleading at best.

This is the solution to your problem
You will need to replace your host file to the one that hasn't been previously patched.
How?
-From your previous ROM zip (the one you downloaded) that your are sure ad was not disabled by default
-open the zip
-navigate to /system/etc
-copy the "hosts" file somewhere on your phone
-using a root capable file manager/explorer e.g root explorer or solid explorer (free).
-navigate to /system/etc on your phone.
-rename hosts to hosts.back
-copy your new host file to /system/etc
-set permissions (puff your new host file you just posted) to rw-r-r (644)
-exit your file manager
-reboot phone
Problem solved

Jokesy,
downloaded solid explorer to handle this fix but i'm not seeing an option to set/change file permissions. is there another free way to do this? can i change permissions to the hosts file on my PC before copying to my tablet (rooted kindle fire running Energy's CM9 ICS ROM).
Thanks for the help.

It is very simple to change permissions in Solid Explorer.
- Long on the file (you wish to change permission)
- select properties
- under attributes, select change
- Now set the permission (which in this case will be rw-r-r or 644)
Done

Adblocking has became a huge issue for the publishers. I have tried many solutions for it but none of them were effective. Then I found out about Adzsafe. I have been using it for a while and it is very effective. It disables the adblock instantly.

How to modify hosts file

Hi guys, i got root on my Honor 10 and would like to modify the hosts file to block ads.
I assume the correct one is /sytsem/etc/hosts right?
I can confirm that i have root acces because i can rename the hosts file and create other files.
I am using the AdAway app which worked just fine on my old phones.
But this time it says "replacement of hosts file failed" ... no further information.
Since i know the sources where AdAway is getting its information from i would like to simply modify the host file by myself.
What format does the hosts file needs to have to work? Like .txt file and remove the file extension afterwards.
Any ideas?
If you are rooted why not try masigk host file?
