I pulled the messaging app from CM10 and installed it on TrickDroid. Everything seems to work, but MMS. Would anyone be willing to take a look. I'm pretty sure a lot of folks would like this app. Thanks.

Is there any way to port the stock messaging apk to a non-rooted mt4g (2.2.1)? Ive been looking for this for awhile and cant find a solution. Im trying to add it along side the htc messaging app which is really slow and fc's a lot. So is there a dev that can try to make this successful for me please!
Btw: Ive already tried Handcent, chomp sms, and go sms and none have satisfied me.
Thanks
Would it be possible to use the contact and dialer from an AOSP rom on a sense rom. I tried using the ones from CM7 and am having some issues.
Edit: I figured it out and have AOSP contacts and dialer now working on a Sense 3.0 Rom incase anyone wants it!
Not saying I particularly want it but why offer it but share no information on how to do it?

I did it that way because I didn't make the mod. The thread started out because I was having issues getting the AOSP contacts and dialer to work on my phone, so I was looking for help. After I figured it out I thought I would see if anyone was intreasted in this mod and I can send them the file or explain how they can get them. I used the contacts from CM7 which includes the dialer. If you use the dialer.apk from CM7 it will break your phone, Kills signal / service. I have the contacts pulled from that Rom if anyone wants it. I take no credit for it in any way.
im Interested!!! Hate the Rosie Dialer!!
I have a Rogers GSm version, dont know if that would affect anything
Here is the contacts apk. It is NOT flashable through recovery. Install using a file manager (like Astro) I did not create this so I take no credit for this. This came from CM7.

This is interesting. Many people including myself have wanted to have the option to integrate the aosp dialer/ contacts into a sense based rom since the good old Hero days but based on the way the two are integrated into Sense roms as a whole, this has never been possible.
I can't remember the technical reasons why, only that many concluded it wasn't much of a possibilty.
Anyway, if anyone else can confirm that we can now have these features integrated into Sense as the op states, that would be awedome.

There are a few issues with using the ASOP contacts with a sense rom. For instance joining contacts will cause a FC. I run a customized rom with as much sense removed as possible. To achieve this I have modified the ASOP contacts to work better on sense. I've never released the modified contacts because I don't have time to support it. The features I use work fine now (for instance the join fc is fixed) ; however, I'm sure there are other issues and at the moment I have no time to resolve anything found.
If people are willing to live with what you get is what you get I can post my modified contacts tonight after work.
HtcDialer still needs to be installed. I can also post a version of this modded to hide the icon from the app drawer and to stop it from being used for certain functions (a convenience feature so I don't have to select the ASOP contacts as the default)

Hi, after using my HTC Hero since it was launched I finally recieved an SGSII at work.
I really love the phone, and have been able to tweak most things to my likings, but the iPhone-wannabe-ish SMS thread viewer is definately not to my taste. No big issue, ofcourse, but I'm still posting about it in case some of you skilled Android-hackers/users have an easy solution. On my Hero I really loved the look of the SMS app in FroydVillain (Froyo) and Decked (GB). I'm honestly not sure, but I think they both ran stock unthemed SMS apps. Black baground, white text, clean interface without those silly bubbles. I've been trying to do a Google image search but haven't found out how the stock SMS app really looks in ICS so I don't know if the cartoonish iPhone-bubbles are from TW or AOSP.
I dont want some bloated and ugly SMS apps like Handscent or Go SMS that I've heard cause problems like duplicate sms-es.
Also, since the phone is my eployer's I want to avoid flashing/rooting it, so simply installing mms.apk from a different ROM is not possible afaik.
So, any suggestions? I guess I'm sort of hoping someone already compiled a binary/apk based on mms.apk that can easily be installed and used as the default messaging app.
Hello all,
I searched around this forum and other places of how to fix the compression on SMS but haven't found a clear solution. I don't know that much about coding and cant really get into it to fixing it. I'm currently on the Super Nexus 4.2.1 build 2 Rom and love everything about it, except the Android SMS compression. On my last Rom I was able to sent out pictures that were 200-400KBs or higher in size and looked good, but on this one I barely get over 100KBs. I don't want to use any 3rd party apps like handcent sms, I just want to know how this can be fixed. ShoStock rom has a modded SMS.apk that works perfectly, but I don't know how to replicate that.
Thanks again and sorry about my noobnes
Anyone know of a fully functional mms.apk I can use for these nightlies? Picture messaging is still broken but it works with 3rd party apps. People are saying to just get a working mms.apk from a different cm10.1 or AOKP or something but the unofficial AOKP mms.apk I tried didn't work. Anyone know one that does?
that completely depends which nightly you're on...
the last decently stable one was 0415. anything after that has one issue or another that causes it to randomly reboot and FC nearly everything.
up until 0415 however, MMS still works. anything after, you should use NinjaSMS or something similar
Huh, I'm on 04/15 and have had no luck with MMS
