[Q] Email app makes new sent & deleted folders for imap - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I use imap email accounts on the s3 and have no problems with the accounts except on this phone. When I send email from my s3 using the stock app it creates a new 'Sent Items' folder on the server where it stores email, and the same for items I delete. I've never used an app or email program on any platform that does not allow you to set which server folders are for sent and which are for deleted messages so I'm sure hoping someone can tell me I'm just missing that here!!
Thanks in advance

Use IMAP rather than POP3 should resolve it.
If you want POP3 only option is a software to move mail to another folder within that mail account as it only removes mail from inbox.
I use POP3 & POMO to move my important mail to folders created by me & delete junk or leave it in inbox, works well for my usage requirements.
Thanks but gmail is already IMAP as far as I know! Am I wrong? So what can I do? To set again from the beggining my account and choose IMAP server? In what software did yoy refer to? sorry for my bad english

default setup is IMAP.
when I used IMAP all mail stays present in inbox.
I use POMO to organise mail with simple rules & move mail to another folder in my POP3 accounts so they are not deleted on next send/receive.

I managed to fix that! I didnt use that programm but with many "magic" and with little bit luck I fixed that prob in gmail an hotmail too! Thanks for help

If you gMail set as an IMAP account, you can use it as an Exchange server. In ActiveSync on your HD2, select 'configure server' and enter 'm.google.com'. Use your gMail account details as the user. Remember to de-select calendar and contacts etc unless you want to sync those with Google as well. The advantage of this setup is that you can set the email schedule to collect mail as it arrives. It does use more power so I use it during work hours only.

[Q] IMAP not syncing folders

I am using Samsung Galaxy i9100 generic email app.
When setting up the email accounts with IMAP I noticed that the SENT folder on the phone is not properly synced. Actually, it is not synced at all.
I tried to put the path prefix INBOX and also Inbox but without any improvement.
Any ideas how to sync properly the SENT folder?
It sounds as though you have let the phone set up a POP account. What is the e-mail account (Yahoo, Hotmail, etc) so we can check your settings?
If you add a folder in the webmail version, does it appear in the phone email client when you sync folders?
I'm not sure if this is your issue, but I don't think the built-in email app supports IMAP IDLE. IOW, it does not automatic real time sync or push email from the server. You need to actively check mail or set the app to automatically check on an interval. If you want real time sync you may want to try an app like K9.
@fred_up
I did the manual setup where I have chosen the IMAP-setup.
The email account is not Gmail, Yahoo or any of these publicly available accounts. It is an account that I set up on a shared hosting server. The account does work properly e.g. with K9
@GeorgeP
The sync of the Inbox does work perfectly. Very good is the schedule sync feature that the Samsung email app offers. What currently does not sync (not even manually) is the SENT folder of the Samsung email app with the IMAP account.
The principal question is:
how can I change that sent emails are stored in the Imap folder "INBOX.sent" and not in the Samsung folder "Sent", using Samsung's email app?

[Q] Stock Email Client Deleting Emails

Hi all,
Recently purchased a Samsung Nexus S. The stock email client (not the GMail app), using POP3 will delete mails once they have been downloaded, or when I next sync. Occasionally it will not delete all mails, just some. The option to delete from the server is not ticked and no other clients are pulling from the server, so its not the case that another app is deleting them. To confirm, emails aren't being deleted after say 10 days, they are being deleted within minutes, and I'm only downloading a handful of mails.
Any help much appreciated- all forum posts seem to relate to other clients consuming from the server and deleting mails, which isnt my issue. Cheers.
Andy
If I remember correctly, POP email servers are linked between the mobile device and the regular computer. If you delete something on the computer it will be deleted on the phone and vice versa. If this isn't the case, are you sure they're being deleted and not hidden do to being marked as read? Check the trash to see if they've been sent there.
Thanks for the reply.
Messages are not being moved to any visible folders, and no other client (ie Outlook) are accessing this mail server.
Thanks.
OK, I kind of resolved this, if it helps anyone.
Firstly, I tried a different POP3 and also an IMPA provider with the mail client - both work fine, no problems. Then I recalled that my mail provider (Virgin Media UK) have recently advised that it is necessary to put 'recent:' ahead of the POP3 username, making it 'recent:[email protected]'. Now the default mail client won't allow this format of username, presumably some internal validation on the client side does not permit it.
So I tried K9 Mail - this behaves the same way with the standard POP3 username, but with the 'recent:' prefix (which it allows) my mails aren't deleted every time I pull from the server. My thoughts are that without the 'recent:' prefix, Virgin Media only returns the new mails - as the default mail client syncs with the server on a 1:1 relationship, it then deletes all old messages (even if they are only a few seconds old). With 'recent:' I think Virgin Media supplies a whole chunk of recent emails, not just the new ones, and the client app essentially doesn't delete the older mails until the time I happen to sync and they are no longer classed as 'recent'.
So in summary, there is no fix for the built-in client - but a workaround is to use K9, which seems a better client anyway. What's most ironic is that Virgin Media's email service uses Google Mail. Oh dear...

[Q] Hotmail - Non deletion of email on Server

Hi all,
I have set up my hotmail account on my Samsung S3 however, when I delete an email on my phone I do not want it deleted from the Hotmail server. Is there an option to do this or is it just tough
Thanks
No takers?

You set it on the Hotmail account itself. Log in from a desktop computer and go into POP3 settings - you should be able to find a setting in there that allows you to decide whether to delete emails from the server when they're deleted from the device.
Mmmm thanks for the reply but I have tried that. Seems once you delete them from the S3 they are deleted from Hotmail also. On most other devices there is an option to stop deletion from the server.
Any other help?
Depends what sort of account you've set up on the phone. If it's POP3, the method I've described above will work - however if you're using Exchange / Activesync, since that sort of account is direct sync, there is no option to leave mail on the server when you delete from the device as far as I know.
That's the one. Thanks chap. Now I've done it I am not sure I prefer the POP3 setup BUT at least I have the option.

[Q] HTC One - syncing sent imap messages native app

Hi
I have a HTC One where I am using the Gmail app for my private gmail account and the native HTC mail app for my work mail.
The work mail is set up with iMap, but the problem is that it isn't syncing sent messages with other devices. If I send an email from my HTC, it will only appear in the sent folder on the phone, but not in the sent folder in Outlook in my laptop. I had the same problem in Outlook, but in Outlook it was possible to define which folder sent messages should be saved in, thus making them available on all devices.
Anyone knows how I can do the same with HTC's mail app, so messages sent from the phone also will appear on other devices?
I have the same issue, ever since updating to kit Kat. Before that, everything synced.
