[Q] SGS2 crashes after short time online - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First post so please be kind.
After a short time online the SGS2 crashes and seems to think the battery is dead. A workaround is to keep the phone on charge - so it seems to be a battery related problem.
I have tried calibrating the battery a few times but the problem persists. I also tried a complete wipe and flashed the ROM again. I have searched the forums and also googled it. I found many battery problems but none like mine.
I am on Chamelion v 3.03 and this crashing thing is my only problem
thanks in advance

Replace battery.

thanks for your reply. Since I calibrated the battery it last for much longer than before and the problem only happens when online but if a new battery cures it I will be delighted.

Had a thought. Given batteries cost money, you might want to try doing a completely clean install of stock via Odin before you buy one. Just to rule out there's not something rom side causing your issues. It doesn't sound like that's the case, but before you go spend $30-$40 on a battery, you might as well try it if you have time/are motivated enough.
Edit - The other thing it could be is the USB/charging circuitry, but if I were in your situation I'd try the obvious first.

Hi MistahBungle
Just to let you know I tried a clean install of stock ROM with Odin AND another battery. Seemed to be OK until battery got to around 50% at which point I tried to read a newspaper article on line and it crashed again. When I rebooted the battery was drained.
I have just rooted the phone again and did a restore to my previous ROM
My solution will be to carry a spare battery
Thanks again for your input

[Q] ''Tap here to launch HTC Sense''. Sense will not load!

Hi all,
As the title says, I can't get Sense to load. Any help/advice, preferably me not having to HR, would be much appreciated.
Here's a bit of background info: Yesterday afternoon I noticed my phone was running very low on battery power, I think it was down to 3%, fortunately I was at home so it wasn't a problem.
I plugged the phone into the wall charger and left it. About 4 hours later I went to unplug the phone expecting to find a fully charged up battery. However, the phone was turned off, I very rarely turn my phone off. Puzzlement followed for a second or two until I realised I hadn't switched the plug switch on. What a dummy!!!
Therefore, the phone had powered down through having no battery power. Sense has not loaded since. Would this cause Sense not to load??
I've had a prior problem with Sense not loading and I did a Hard Reset, I couldn't see what else I could do.
But I'm hoping someone quite a lot more knowledgeable than myself maybe knows a way round this without resorting to a HR.
Thanks for any help.
Anyone please?
If you still have the origional ROM running i would say bring it back to the shop from which you got it from and let them repair it
Otherwise i would say try to install HSPL and push another ROM to your phone so that will repair the fault. Installing ROMS wont take to long

Thx for the reply.
Yes I'm still running original ROM although I updated the original 1.43 ROM to 1.72 via the HTC website. I don't yet feel brave enough to flash a custom ROM. Although this might be the right time to do it now. However, if there is anyone who may know a workaround for this without having to flash a custom ROM or hard reset, I would be very grateful.
Thx.
This is not a useful post but i had the same on mine, and had the same update line as you. Out of interest were you running GTX when the freeze happened?
Both times i had to done to me was on the GTX theme, atm not running it due to the effort of reinstalling everything after a HR, i feel your pain!

No GTX theme on my phone and the phone didn't actually freeze. As mentioned in my original post, the problem has come about. I think, due to the phone powering off through lack of battery power. This was due to me not switching the plug switch on after having put the phone on charge.
Thx for the suggestion anyway.

Does Downgrading back to 1.6 or changing the battery solve the overheats and restarts

Not gunna go into much detail here. I'm sure most people have heard o the motherboard bug which causes the sony ericsson to over heat and reboot as soon as it is turned on and things like that. This problem only started for me when I updated to 2.1. Would downgrading to 1.6therefore stop the reboots because I never got even 1 before. Would changin the battery to a diferent one stop overheating o the battery. Maybe there is a battery specialized or this. Maybe a mugen battery would work? Help greatly appreciated. thanks in advance
I dont think so, i had the same problem and tried everything, last thing was getting the new one, and now i can do anything, and no reboot, i think u should go to SonyEricson and tell them about your problem, they will give you back your phone for about 3 times, then when your problem still persist they will give you a new device or they will change motherboard,
Good Luck (and sorry for bad english ^_^)
Out of Warranty Cant be bothered to explain why. Getting it repaired would cost a lot. CoulD I repair it myself?
your best bet it to use advanced task killer app
sent from my X10 using my wicked awesome premium xda app
I do use that app but 90 percent of the time I cant get my phone on long enough to even think about using it
have you tried reflashing the rom, via repair option on SEUS, or even Flashing a custom rom?
sent from my X10 using my wicked awesome premium xda app
yep didnt work
has anyone tried the downgrading or battery change method that can enlighten me as to wheether it will work or not. Or at least significantly reduce the reboots so I can actually use the phone

Yes i think some thing inside the rom could help. One of my friend have X10 with mainboard bug like u. But as i sure in xrecovery it never reboot even you flash a rom sooooo....it should be something inside the room or kernel
sorry i dont really understand what you want me to do :S ????
just downgraded to 1.6. Still rebooting but not as much. Not every minute anymore. It like every few minutes. Im at a loss here there must be something I can do. Warranty and paying to change the motherboard is not an option
I had the same problem, tried everything but my phone only worked when I was using it in cold places, or in front of a fan. The problem started to become worse gradually, it started playing games, then in a few minutes of light use... and then every minute. Had to flash to stock rom in front of a fan to use the warranty.
You cannot do much, unless you use the warranty you'll stand with a dead phone for now.
Isnt there a way I could like open up my phone and do something to it to make it work? There must be something out there that will work.
what if i put the phone and battery in the freezer for a day or a few. maybe it could at least stop the overheating for at leastt a few days? i wouldnt mind doing this every few days

It will work for a few minutes, once your start to use the phone, the battery will start to heat, and then it will reboot once it reach its threeshold.
I highly suggest you to try to repair it in any sony center, or at least check the price to fix it. As far as I know, you can't do anything to at least remedy it. You won't be able to use your phone well. I experienced it and tried everything it came to my mind to at least use the phone well for a few days before I gave up and sent it to the repair center.
Out of warranty and would be like 100 quid to get motherboard replaced. (sorry about caps lock) there must be something that no one has thought of
Of there is of course a problem with asking for solutions that no one has thought of....
Sorry for the cheap shot. I do have sympathy as I have the same issue, although to a much lesser extent. Got a new battery and it made no difference. Went into a phone shop today and had a chat. Although I was not 100% convinced about the guy in there he showed me another X10 that smelled the same as mine and he said it did reboot. Anyway for £15 he says he can reflash the stock ROM using a special box. He seemed convinced it was software related so I may give it a go. It is very strange that I can put the phone into xRecovery when the phone is rebooting and it is stable.
However I think your best bet is to sell your phone and get another. Not sure how much a spares/repairs X10 goes for but I can recommend the ZTE Blade as a good, cheap Android phone with a strong support over a MoDaCo. If you do this you should not be to much out of pocket.
dont really want a different phone. Lilke I said there must be something that someone knows :S
if theres no solution anyone knows, does anyone know where I can buy an xperia 10 PCB so I can dissassemble my phone and change the PCBs myself
Get insurance and lose the phone.

Firmware upgrade, battery life is worse?

So I read a few posts on bad battery life.... but I really had no complaints, I even took a screen shot or 2 of me making it over 24 hours, they way I use my phone. Very typical for me and my usage....
But then kies kept bugging about a firmware update, so I did it.... and not, I am barely getting over 10 hours out of my phone... having slept most of that!?
This is the second charge now, it seems the life is cut in half... with no increase in usage or any new apps added. Is this possible from a firmware upgrade and can I go back to the old firmware?
thanks in advance.... I did do a quick search, hopefully it is not a repost
Most people with this issue are being told to do a factory reset and see what happens. Im pretty sure it solves the problem.
anyone with firmware XWKE2 done factory reset? And did it help the battery?

weird, but like I always tell women.... I will try anything once
since I am at 100% right now, I will do it and report back. thanks
I assume you just go into privacy and do the factory reset that way?
A multitude of battery posts all say after a flash your battery drains then settles down with use .

A factory reset made no difference for me unfortunately.
12 hours in and I am still at 41%... so it made some at least!

[Q] How you fixed your random reboots.?

Hi all, i want to know methods how different people saved this issue on amaze, i have but i cant fix it i tried different methods, but all that help only for some time. I opened this thread for other people(i think many people experience this problem) for finding the fix. Thanks for reading and answering.
There is no way to answer such a general question like this with such limited detail. There are so many things that can cause random reboots: bad battery, problem with an app, rom, kernel, etc. How r we suppose to be able to know what is causing your reboots, you didn't even say what your phone's current setup is: unlocked/locked, custom rom/stock, cust kernel/stock, etc.
A lot of amaze owners have had problems with battery going bad and random reboots being one of the issues. So that may be one thing to try. Good luck

Go back to stock.
Learn/read more about what you're doing when modding your device.
Maybe try again
Problem solved
Nobody with any knowledge is having random reboots. Its usually the people who flashed a ROM incorrectly, is using an unstable ROM build, over/under clocked their CPU too much or under volted their CPU too much. I never once had a random reboot that i didnt provoke (which means it wasn't random) unless I was using an unstable ROM.

Now i went back to stock, but i am experiencing the same problem but less 2-3 times a day.i have enough knowledge about flashing modding, i had 6 android phones before this one, but this problem i cant fix in no way. i am using now stock ics, the CPU isnt over or underclocked and i didnt flashed any mods. pure official rom with some 5-6 apps, i am trying to understand maybe it is from apps.
Battery caused my randoms. Anker took care of it. Or you can opt for OEM but most likely happen again.

I'll try, thanks for answer yall. But after returning to stock i am only having reboots at nearly 20%, and it is like phone trying to confidure, to calibrate its battery, it is rebooting 2 times, it shows 5% and there are no more reboots. I tried to calibrate no help. Ill try to bye anker battery, not to change and i cant buy in armenia, there is no htc shop or centre, but what if i put sensation battery? Because, the choice for sensation is bigger.

OK, I THINK I MIGHT HAVE FOUND A SOLUTION!!!!!!!
I bought an Anker battery. After a while, it will start doing the random reboot things. The cool thing is, the Anker batteries come with an external charger. If I take the battery out of the phone and use the charger, it seems to "reset" the battery so it works fine for a while.
I'm startting to think there is an issue with the charging system on the phone - who knows.
thank!!!

One Quick Solution
Okay so this is just one quick solution for those specific people out there that have had random reboots on EVERY ROM they try. A good friend of mine had constant reboots even on modified stock ROMs like Revolution HD which I have never had rebooting issues. We noticed the battery was easily removed when taking off the backing so we inserted a paper index card on the bottom to decrease the gap and make the fit slightly tighter. We just cut an index card to about the size of an inch in length and the same width as the battery compartment and then folded it in an L shape inserted it in the bottom of the battery slot and his phone has seen nearly 0 reboots since doing this. Seems like a dumb issue but it is worth a try especially if your Amaze has taken some physical abuse.
Still having problems. No idea what to try anymore. Might have to bite the bullet and get another phone. Never again HTC.

Wife had the same problems...
a little background of her Amaze issues:
- tmobile stock ICS ROM, not rooted, about 16 months old.
- after about a year random reboots begin and get more frequent, sometimes 6-7 times daily
- replaced with new Anker battery. problems go away for about 2 weeks
- after about a month, phone no longer charges (no orange light) using the original ac adapter and usb cable
- gave in and called HTC (from htc.com:United States/English/+1-866-449-8358/08:00 - 01:00 ET (7 days a week))
- got a RMA number and paid for shipping (~ $6 with Insurance at USPS) to Texas
- HTC returned her Amaze (same IMEI number), fixed under warranty. Not exactly sure what they replaced/fixed as they did not provide details.
If you're in a last resort type of situation, give them a call...you never know! Since being fixed, it's been rooted and NRG ICS Blue ROM and 4EXT recovery flashed, just like mine. All is great...for now... If Amaze dies again, not sure what phone to get next.

[Q] Help Me Please, Urgent!

Hi, i was hoping you to help me. My phone is getting crazy.. I had a custom rom, the cm11 weekly build, and then i started having troubles with random reboots. Suddenly, my phone with 100% battery powers off and stays that way until i noticed that, then i power on and i have 1% battery and it turns it off. I thought it was a OS problem, so i installed the stock rom to see if it would solve, but turns out that when i'm around 60% battery it reboots again and again, and there's a flicker on the screen. I tried to root and flash another rom, i tried to keep it off for a few days, i tried to drain the battery as fast as i could but it doesn't solve it. So i'm thinking if it could be a battery issue, maybe it's kinda dead.. What do i do? do i buy a new battery or maybe it's another issue? Had anyone had a similar problem? Would it be possible that the companies on purpose make the phone to get crazy after a couple years as a strategy to sell more? Sorry for my bad english, and thanks in advance for your help.

doesn't hurt to try a new battery, they cost around 10 dollars, and no, phone companies don't do that as a strategy to make you buy a new phone. They stop officially updating your phone to make you buy a new one.

Exactly, i was scared because where i'm from (Argentina) the phones are just impossible to buy, way too expensive. And there's no even the newest phones because the government don't let import/export whatever we want, so it's gonna be hard for me to get a new battery...
I would get new battery and test it for a day then flash different ROM , stock for few days then any good rated ROM
