NOTE: I started this thread on the OG Note forums before I got my S4, but figured I would share this with you all as well since the mod is working perfect (if not better) on my S4 as well. See the thread here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40355014) for user feedback and some troubleshooting.
As a flashaholic and a musician, I've been on the search for the perfect audio mod for my phone ever since I first rooted my device and realized such things even existed. I've tried them all, from AwesomeBeats to AC!D Audio, and I've had generally good experiences with them.
However, I did some research and found out that the "conglomeration" of all the different apps and mods within each of them may actually be conflicting with each other to the point that the clarity/bass/quality may actually be getting limited or reduced. (I encourage you to read the info posted in the source threads below, as they offer an interesting insight into how their respective mods work, and what makes them different from the "all-in-one" mods like AC!D)
After using AC!D for a long time, I began to foray into some other options that have recently been developed by the genius folks in the XDA community...and ended up stumbling upon this combination of mids pretty much by chance. However, the instant I landed on it I completely abandoned my seemingly never ending search for the perfect audio mod (or at least the perfect combination, as AC!D seemed to have a different effect (therefore requiring different tweak setups) on every ROM I flashed.
When I flashed MegaBassBeatsv3 only, the bass was ridiculous and grinding but everything else kinda took the back seat (losing some of the mids and highs that make certain songs... Radiohead's Amnesiac and OKComputer albums, for example). When I flashed Viper only, I had a fantastic spectrum of sound and clarity but the bass was lacking (ineffective for the dubstep and rap songs that I may or may not listen to on occasion).
So, even though both mods didn't really advise users to combine with other mods, I figured what the hell. Installed them both, and sweet Jesus - best sound quality I've ever had on both Bluetooth (in my car) and headphones. This was also a frustration I was having with AC!D, that sometimes it would work great in my car but then it would be iffy on my headphones...other times it would be the opposite.
Just some minor EQ tweaks on PowerAmp, and I can now sit back and listen to an infinite array of music genres, on both Bluetooth and headphones, and not have to give a second thought to tweaking anything after my initial setup (of which I set up on Viper and Poweramp only once, and then restore data on those two apps from my Nandroid backups using TiBu).
NOTE: In no way am I a developer, and I had ZERO to do with the actual building of these mods - the mods below are 100% the intellectual property of their respective contributors (see the links below for the original threads on XDA) - I am simply trying to share my setup with others to hopefully improve their music listening experience like mine has.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. You must be rooted.
2. I have implemented this mod successfully on both stock-based and AOSP-based custom ROMs.
3. I have been using PowerAmp (available on the Play Store) the entire time I've tested these. Not sure how other players would handle them, but you're welcome to try. If you do use PowerAmp, make sure (a) the Direct Volume Control (DVC) option is switched OFF, and (b) make sure the "enable MusicFX" is turned ON. Google is your friend if you don't know how to do either one of those.
4. All the usual stuffs, you assume the risk, I'm not responsible (nor are the original devs) if you brick your phone, or if you pass out while driving due to the overload of beautiful music coming from your speakers, yadda yadda.
I've attempted to make it super easy to flash by baking both mods into an AOSP-based (that is very important - don't flash this package if you are on ANY stock ROM) GAPPs package that I flash on each wipe. There is a link to this package below...in which I also have Google Keep and the new Play Store apk in here, as well as some of the other apps that I don't use (Google+, etc) taken out because I always use TiBu to remove them anyway. If you aren't one to flash random zips, feel free to open them up and then open up the original mod zips from the threads below...nothing more added than what's in there. EDIT: It's been a little while since I've updated this, so some of the apps in the package may be outdated.
AOSP-ONLY GAPPs: http://db.tt/FNI7lVgo
ViperFX apk (update v2208):
http://d-h.st/Ctm
UPDATED 6/3/13
Extract the "ViPER4Android_FX_2208_Android4.x_en.zip" from the zip you downloaded above (yes, you read that correctly). Then extract the contents of this zip to your sdcard, and navigate to the extracted files. Click on the "ViPER4Android_FX.apk" file and proceed with installation as you would any other downloaded app.
Instructions:
1. Flash your ROM (clean install preferred...if not just wipe cache/dalvik-cache, dirty flash your current ROM, then flash the GAPPs)
2.Flash GAPPs
3. (ONLY IF YOU ARE NOT USING MY CUSTOM GAPPS) Flash MegaBassBeats.
4. (IF YOU USED MY CUSTOM GAPPS) Install the ViperFX app (only that one, not the XHiFi one that you'll find in the thread below as I didn't have much luck with both of them installed at once).
5. Install *updated 6/3* Viper apk from link above. No need to follow any additional instructions like before, just install the app, choose the Neon9 driver when prompted, and reboot. It's as simple as that now
6. DELETE MusicFX.apk from /system/app. DELETE DSPManager.apk from /system/app.
7. Reboot.
8. If you want to replicate my Viper setup, see the link below to a flashable zip I made that SHOULD give you the settings on Viper that I've had success with. ONLY flash that file after you've installed Viper.
9. Also, download this file (http://www.mediafire.com/?9am1sogfq9lm31d ), create the following folder path ( /sdcard/ViPER4Android/Kernel/ ) if it doesn't exist already, then extract the convolver files in the linked zip to the "Kernel" folder in order to enable the Convolver. Two important things to note when doing this: (1) make sure sure the names of the folders are EXACTLY as listed above. If either one isn't spelled correctly, then Viper will not be able to find the files to use in processing. (2) It will not work if you place the files on your external sd card ("/external_sd/", "/storage/sdcard1/"). Depending on which firmware you're running, the correct path will look like "/mnt/sdcard/", "/storage/sdcard0/", or just "/sdcard/" if you're using Root Explorer.
Here are links to the respective threads so you can play around if you'd like:

So here is the zip that you can flash AFTER you install the Viper app itself that should give you the setup that I currently have for the app, if you wanted to at least start from there and tweak as you see fit based on your listening setup. (I just figured it took me a long time to finally get the right combo, I'd at least share it with everyone else to see if it would work for them)

Let me know if this works for you guys - again, I'm no dev by an means. But if you run into any issues with setting this up, feel free to post and I'll do my best to help. Or, if you have additional recommendations or experiences you'd like to share - they are welcome as well!
I forgot to mention, I do also have the EQ settings in Poweramp tweaked a bit. Here are screenshots of my setup:

}
NOTE: After you get Poweramp set up the way you like it, I recommend saving it as an EQ preset by hitting the "Preset" button (see the third screenshot) and then hit save...you can then name it whatever you want (as you can see on the 1st two screenshots, I have mine saved as "Driving Viper", as you can set it to automatically switch EQ presets based on what type of device you're using to actually listen to the music - i have the lower freqs tuned just a bit lower while I'm connected to Bluetooth, as my Bose headphones handle bass a little healthier than my car speakers. Conversely, I have another setting called "Headphones" that it automatically switches to when I'm physically plugged in to an audio jack).
Once you have the preset(s) saved, you can continue to flash ROMs if you want - just restore data on PowerAmp using TiBu (personally I always use the "extract from Nandroid backup" option in TiBu and then choose "restore data only" after already installing Poweramp, as opposed to just restoring data from the app backup list) and boom - your settings should be right back the way they were before you flashed the new ROM.
Here are my settings for Viper (headphone and bluetooth) for anyone who isn't having luck flashing my settings zip:

Should work for your entire system (ie all apps that produce sound). The easiest way to tell if it's working is to go into Viper while your music is playing and toggle the effects (the very top checkbox) on and off. If you hear a change in the sound, you know it's working
Have you made any eq adjustments from the note? This thing sounds pretty good without the mod so I was wondering how much adjusting did you need to do? Glad to see over here

Hey man, glad to see you as well! And to be honest I've gotten hooked on Spotify and have been using that as my go-to music player recently...and it works perfectly because the app uses the system equalizer, which means when I click "Music Effects" it takes me straight to Viper.
But I did use Poweramp for a little while after getting my S4, and I replicated my in-app EQ settings as displayed above - and it still sounded great. And I started using this mod the day that I got my phone (after rooting, of course), even though I had to manually push all of the MBB files to /system since we didn't have a custom recovery yet...so I really haven't even tried it without the mod. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", as they say.

I installed the HiFi one after installing the FX and I am using both without a problem. Using with winamp if that helps. Couldn't get it to play happy with the stock music player.
Thanks so much for letting us know about this. I was disappointed with the S4 audio after coming from an Infuse with it's Wolfson chip and Voodoo Sound. I can't believe the rest of the world got a Wolfson chip in their S4...but thats another story.
Anyway, I'm very happy with the sound quality through my Grados now. I see lots of tweaking in my future.
Everyone should definitely click through to the Viper thread, as there are examples of settings and links to lots of convolver IR files.
Bummed, can't get this to install on slim be an 5.7. It boot loops after step 5. Any suggestions to make it work?

You probably got a lot of questions on this but...
I do a bit of flashing, so I was able to get this working. It sounds WAY better than stock. I purchased Proamp as you suggested. I saved the Proamp profiles, and I saved the viper load effect file, so all the settings are saved.
My question is if there is a way for viper to start and open the profile along with Proamp. In other words, I have to keep going back to viper to turn the settings on. Is there a way to keep them on?
Thanks for your help, and the tip. This sounds is jacked in my Jeep!
Is this working correctly on 4.3? Viper tells me to install driver, I install it, reboot and then it asks me the same thing and no settings were saved.
Getting the same issue stated above. It asks to update the drivers even after doing it already and rebooting.

Nope, not working on 4.3
This one thing is literally holding me back from moving on to a 4.3 ROM as my DD.
Thanks x 100, finally great sound on my s4.This totally rocks.Great find for TW rom4.2.2.
Edit: every rom should have this loaded from the start,PERFECTION.

Same issue...how can we get the settings to "stick" in use with all audio apps? Thanks for this! Great work!

The instructions in OP are a little messy, you should break down the instructions into 2 seperate "how to", one for AOSP and one for TW based roms. I'm use to flashing and i have a hard time understanding what to do
The Viper program lists Headset, Phone Speaker, and Bluetooth. Do you know if the Samsung audio out via USB is covered under any of these?
Edit: Tested, no change that I could see. Worked as expected with actual headset or phone speaker.
I only use Google Play Music app with all access, so is there any point in getting the PowerAmp app? Should I just install Viper only?

In all honesty, I believe that GPAAM is not worth it. to begin, the app itself is not great, and the data usage is still insane. youd be better off just downloading the song. You buy PA if you want the kick ass eq. but thats about it.
The app is poor, but the data usage is no concern as I'm always around WiFi.
Anyone know if this mod will work with Google Play Music? OP said it works with Spotify.

Hi all.
Hopefully there's some info that someone can pass along, as I've not found it in my searches through the forums (or general search online). Maybe I missed it somewhere.
I have two sets of bluetooth headphones. Both have the ability to control the tracks while playing music (next, FF, back, etc...). They both worked great on my Streak, and DID work the same with my Note when I first got it...but...I might have accidentally deleted some important file.
I'd really like this functionality back.
I tried using Odin to reinstall the OS (GB) over itself to see if that would put those (supposed) missing files back, but it doesn't seem to have worked.
I'm running stock 2.3.6 GB
Rooted
HoloNote kernel
CWM based recovery
Thanks in advance.

Hey did u try using both headsets to test it out?
Also if that didn't work try flashing a Rom through custom recovery. Also make sure u do a full wipe too.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Agreed. The full wipe has cleared up BT issues.
Does bluetooth to something other than a headset work?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
I've had certain roms that just don't work right, my bt has caller ID as well, some roms it works, some don't. Sometimes unpairing and repairing fixes it.
Sorry it took so long to reply back to your replies...tight weekend. Thank you guys.
It worked with both headsets when I first got the phone, and I have tried both again in testing this time around. Still stock (besides root, custom kernel, and CWR...no custom ROM).
Bluetooth does in fact work with no problems with phone to phone file transferring, Jawbone earpiece, and connecting to the car's system.
I have also tried unpairing and repairing. That didn't work.
The one thing I haven't tried is a full wipe. I thought installing without wiping might resolve it.
I guess I might have to start from scratch, huh?
Sent from my Mental 'Note'.
So you guys were right. Full wipe did the trick. Thank you.
The only thing is, I deleted stock apps (and bloat) that I didn't need or want (as I believe most people do), and now it doesn't work again. There must be some app within those I deleted that is necessary for this to work correctly.
I'll have to attempt one more time and delete one by one and test after each to see which it is.
Sent from my Mental 'Note'.
So it turns out that "Music Player" needs to stay installed.
There are two default music apps. The one with the headphone icon is okay to uninstall, but this one (disk icon with a music note) needs to stay.
I installed GB over itself through ODIN like I tried originally. Uninstalled all things unwanted and left "music player" and am now able to control track selection and play/pause.
Its been interesting figuring this out. Thanks for all the help.

REQUIREMENTS:
1. You must be rooted.
2. I would RECOMMEND being on ICS firmware or above. I have implemented this mod successfully on both stock ICS ROMs as well as every 4.2+ ROM that is currently available for our device (EDIT: Although I no longer have this device, this mod has been reported working on JB-Official 4.1.2), I just haven't tried on GB. You're welcome to try, I just won't attest to its effectiveness as I have not tried it. Just make sure you grab the appropriate mods based on ICS or JB (there are links to both below).

No need to apologize at all, I enjoy talking about this stuff lol.
Sorry about the confusion, I knew it would take me forever to run through both methods in one post, so I just posted the method I used now. The answer to your question depends on a couple scenarios -
Scenario 1: The ROM you're talking about with the GAPPS baked in is "the ROM that shall not be named" (which is the only 4.2.2 ROM that I'm aware of that disregards Google's proprietary ownership of the apps included in the typical GAPPs packages). If that's the case, simply flash my GAPPs package from recovery and it will just overwrite any existing GAPPs, and you *shouldn't* run into any issues. Then proceed with the normal instructions steps.
EDIT: Just saw in your post that you are indeed running a 4.2.2 ROM, so I think I have an idea which one that is lol. Like I said, just flash the GAPPS package from recovery and then install the ViperFX app from the OP, and you should be good.
Scenario 2: You're running a stock ICS ROM (Blackstar, Padawan, Novena, etc) that appropriately has the GAPPs included. In that case, you'll need to follow the manual install instructions which, while are listed in the threads I linked in the OP, can get a little confusing. Here are my "simplified" instructions for those of you in this boat:
1. No need to reflash ROM obviously. Just start the process by booting into Recovery (probably still a good idea to wipe cache/dalvik-cache before you start flashing).
MegaBassBeats
2. Flash this MBBv2 zip (pulled from the linked thread): http://db.tt/I41DRcck
3. Wipe caches again. Fix Permissions. Reboot.
ViperFX
4. Install this file (also pulled from the thread above) as you would a normal apk (click from your file explorer, accept permissions and install): http://db.tt/7kWGYVPm
5. Open the app, click the "Install/Update" button. Allow Superuser access if it requests it.
6. Reboot.
7. Manually install the ViperFX apk (links in the OP, depending on the version of Android you're running). Same drill as in Step 4 above re: how to install.
8. For good measure, I'll open up TiBu and find the ViperFX app that I just installed, then use it to wipe app data and wipe app cache. You can also do this in Settings > Apps.
9. Using TiBu or your favorite file explorer, navigate to /system/app and delete the following files if they are present:
- MusicFX.apk
- DSPManager.apk
10. Reboot to recovery (optional, if you're wanting to flash my Viper settings zip; if not, just reboot the phone normally and you're good to go!).
11. Flash the Viper_settings zip from the OP. Fix Permissions. Reboot. Profit.
Ok Ive got a quick question Im very interested in this but wondering if I use Google Music to play all of my music is there anything special I need to do to have the EQ effects work properly on those songs
EDIT: And do you have tried the XHifi and V4A FX coexisting setup that I saw in the Viper thread.

I believe with the newer versions of GMusic there is an "EQ" button if you hit the menu button while playing a song...and if I remember correctly, it should then take you to the Viper settings as long as you deleted MusicFX.apk and DSPManager.apk from /system/app as I mentioned in the OP. If it does that, this means that the music player (Google Music or otherwise) is using the ViperFX settings as it's equalizer.
As far as the coexist, I did try it (mentioned briefly in the OP) but I found it to be overkill for the type of music I listen to and how I listen to it. There were some crazy cool effects available, but for my purposes it just made it worse. You're welcome to try though, every device and every user is different - so who knows!

Yea Ill probably start out simply with yours and see how it goes
First, Thank you for this awesome setup. I've followed the instructions you provided and everything seems to work just fine. I actually use Winamp & Google music as my main players. In Google music if you hit the EQ tab it'll direct right to Viper FX. I also installed your VIper Mod settings, although I don't know if they are applied. After I flashed the setting in Viper FX were still at default. I checked the screens you poseted in the 2nd post and tried my best to duplicate them for my headset, speaker, and bluetooth settings in Viper FX.
The results are phenomenal. The sound through the speaker is epic compared to the default sound. Really loud and crisp sounding, it's pretty neat to be able to play a song using the speaker and have other people in the same room be able to enjoy it also. I wasn't able to do this before.
I did have a question though, in the OP is says that some options were needed to do in PowerAmp player, I was wondering if you could look into Winamp and see if there are any similar settings I need to do to enable Viper FX. Or find a way to see if it's simply working with Winamp. Or, is the fact that Viper FX opens as the EQ for Google music proof enough that it's working for Winamp.
Again, thank you for all of this. I can use this immensely in my Jeep and through my home audio and love it!

No problem, glad you're enjoying it as well!
That's too bad that my Viper Settings zip didn't appear to work...because yeah if it did, then the settings in Viper wouldn't be at default. It was a shot in the dark to see whether or not it would work, so I guess my logic was off
Just curious though, do you remember if you opened the app up as soon as you installed, but prior to flashing the settings mod? This is purely conjecture (maybe some can fill me in), but it wouldn't surprise me if an app didn't create it's /data/data folders until AFTER it's opened got the first time? If so, then the zip definitely wouldn't work as it flashes the settings prefs into the Viper folder within /data/data - and if that folder doesn't exist yet, it would have nowhere to flash.
Now that you have opened it, do you think you could try flashing the zip one more time? If that doesn't work still, I'll just post screenshots of my setup on Viper.
On Winamp, I downloaded it and looked around a bit - but couldn't find any similar settings. I would say that as long as you go to Settings > Sound > Music Effects and it shows ViperFX, then that means the app is controlling the audio system-wide - and you should be good.
The way to make sure is to play a song with Winamp and, while it's playing, open up Viper and and turn it off and on. If you hear a difference in sound, then you know that it's tweaking your Winamp music.
Ok so I've never use these mods on their own a I don't know what settings they come with. I flashed the settings again and it defaulted to the original settings so I am assuming it worked. I was confused earlier thinking your player settings were the viper fx settings. There are a boat load of settings in viper fx although I'm not sure if your settings flash added them. I will be able to test the sounds more to make certain its working with winamp. I'll definitely be replying and updating with my results after. Thanks again for all your help.

Thanks for the audio mod! Sure blows Apollo and DSP out of the water. I flashed your viper settings also but all the settings were set to default when I went into the equalizer. It says my ROM doesn't support MusicFX so I don't have the option to check that?
If I want to add this package into another Google Apps package what should I move over Im going to try this with Slimbean that JamieD81 did

Sorry the settings didn't work...I'll post my Viper settings a bit later.
Where are you getting the message about your ROM not supporting MusicFX? Can you take a screenshot?
Not sure why it would even be saying that, as you don't need MusicFX to run the mod (in fact, you should have deleted it as part of the installation procedures for this mod).

I did disable dvc and it makes everything quiet and still doesn't allow me to enable MXmusic effects. Tried rebooting with dvc disabled and still no go. I followed the install steps and used the gapps link in the OP.

I installed the viperfx apk first. I had to delete the DSP and musicfx apk in twrp then i installed the gapps then rebooted. Then everyrhing worked in poweramp.

If its disabled, then it sounds like you don't have Viper installed (or at least not installed properly). Have you opened it up and verified that it runs?

First of all, I'd like to say I'm glad to be on this extremely helpful forum with very intelligent members. I have been watching this forum for at least 2 years now to get up to speed on rooting and not being a noob so much. I have successfully rooted, troubleshooted, restored to stock, rerooted and added custom roms on my GSM/HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus from Google Play due to help on these forums and elsewhere and I am very grateful. Because I am new, I was not able to post this question in the forum I wish to, which I have mentioned below, until I reach 10 posts, so please do bare with me.
I have been on Android 4.1.2 due to a sound tweak rom by the name of Nexus LouderBoom.zip which installs the AwesomeBEATS sound equalizer enhancement to the ridiculously low volume of the Galaxy Nexus. I never updated to 4.2.2 for fear that it wouldn't work and also because the upgrades for that particular OS version weren't that necessary to me.
However, I did happen to stumble upon ...Awesome...'s thread on AwesomeBEATS™ v.5 and perused it's pages to see that many people are having success with it as it has now been to designed to work with pretty much any Android Jelly Bean operating system. So I decided to give it a go and update to 4.2.2 via OTA. Prior to the OTA update, I made sure I did a back up through Nexus Toolkit 1.6.3 as well as make a Nandroid backup via TWRP Custom Recovery.
The update went well and everything worked normally. I then applied the AwesomeBEATS v.5 rom via the recovery console and installed it. It had the option under the Sound Settings like it's supposed to. I then began customizing my sound preferences for Headset, Speaker and Bluetooth for which I momentarily noticed a sound change when manually adjusting the equalization in the "Speaker" while playing a song via Google Music. However, after switching to Bluetooth, the adjustments no longer registered and it seemed to bypass the fact that the tweak was installed on the phone. Even after turning off Bluetooth and going back to Speaker, it just didn't work anymore. I even tried to flash an older version (v.4) to no avail as it made the streaming from Google Music quit entirely. Because of this incompatibility, I had to revert back to my previous version 4.1.2 where I was able to utilize the Nexus LouderBoom.zip tweak which worked beautifully.
Looking back on why v.5 didn't work for me, I can only stop at this line in the instructions...
"*STOCK Rom (ROOTED but on stock rom. (ONLY SOUND FILES WILL INSTALL)"
Is the fact that the ONLY the sound files will install part of my problem? Or is there some other technicality I missed along the way?
Thank you so much for anyone who responds... or not.
thanks to Tylorw1 for the mod
I decided to take the Volume Mod down I just had up earlier becuse it was very extreme and i dont want to be responsible for blown earbuds or eardrums lol. This zip is in between moderate and extreme .. I can confirm it works on the latest Hyperdrive firmware and I will try to keep it up to date as long as there is a need for it .
Always use caution with this please Im not responsible for your new pair of Beats earbuds blowing up which shouldnt happen if you adjust your audio settings first and work your way up .
Here it is again LOL

I know there volume mods inside Aroma when flashing a Rom .. I am currently using Hyperdrive RLS 17 . Although i flashed the extreme volume increase during the rom install It still didnt meet my demand for loud and clear music .. The sound is great especially when setting up Viper correctly but it wasnt loud enough .. here is a trick i have been using with Multiple roms .. I can confirm GE app installer V33 works with hyperdrive Rls 16 and 17 .. just download the link below and flash in recovery .. It will run you through Aroma and i just skip all the way to the end and the last option is for the volume increase . I also choose the wipe cache wipe dalvik option . Once installing this my sound is not only as loud as i want it but it seems to increase the overall quality ..".Maybe becuase i am half deaf from listening to headphones for years at high volumes " I know there are other methods but this one seems to be the one i like best ..I almost cant believe the sound quality coming out of my $14 skull candy earbuds . If this helps only one person then my job is done ..

Tried to follow your lead on this but all I ended up with was the Kernel installer and it didn't have any options within it's Aroma for "Volume" stuff. Just kernels which luckily I just skipped over and ended the mod file install.
Ok, I'm seeing now via OP of that thread it's actually the "App Installer" maybe. But that leads to TWO sub directories with different names , GoldenEye and Maple something, then within them there are like 3 each different versions. So I'm still lost as to what/which/where you used for this.

use the GE installer . The volume mod is part of that .. Also if you use the Zip i just put up BEWARE IT IS LOUD AND COULD HARM YOUR EARS AND EARBUDS . There will be a slightly less extreme version going up within the next 24hours
I think I downloaded the slightly less extreme .zip this morning. Flashed it and rebooted, my notifications volume sounds the same to me. Maybe it's because I also run Viper4Android OR did the moderate volume in Hyperdrive RLS17 install?
OR
Does this only effect earphone volume for music?
This is my first attempt at compiling cyanogenmod for my own phone. So far it works OK for me so I decided to share:
WARNING:
As of 20141223 you will need HBOOT version 3.19.000 to be able to use this. in order to get it install the latest firmware from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2696282
WARNING:
This is an ALPHA built, in other words too many things are broken and expect things to suddenly stop working. Make sure you know how to recover your phone in case anything breaks. If you have a grain of doubt that you may not be able to recover DO NOT PROCEED. and in the end of everything: I do not take any responsibility for anything that may or may not happen to your phone. You are flashing at your own risk not mine.
Requirements:
1. Custom recovery (I used TWRP)
2. Latest firmware version 3.19.000
Files that you need:
CM12 built: http://devbro.com/android/cm-12-20141223-UNOFFICIAL-m8.zip Last stable built with no issues for camera and bluetooth is 20141218
GAPPS: http://d-h.st/YQG
SUPERSU: http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu -- no longer needed
Steps:
0. Create a small temple using your favorite objects and pray to your favorite God or Gods for a successful outcome. I did about 2 hours of praying to Eutykhia. I suggest the same to you.
1. Back up your stuff using Titanium backup
2. Go into recovery
2.1 Do one last nandroid backup here of System, Boot, Recovery and Data
3. Wipe Data, System, Cache, Dalvik
4. install CM12 and GAPPS
5. restart upon completion
Things that do not work:
1. Titanium back up and apps that depend on root may hang. Flash SUPERSU from RECOVERY and it should fix it. Fixed as of 20141220
2. Camera does not work.
3. Bluetooth may not see new devices. Restart before adding each individual device.
4. If Calendar is not syncing install the Google Calendar from the Store
5. Apollo(music player) Keeps on crashing. I used Play Music(google music) to play my musics and it works ok so far. fixed as of 2014-12-06 build. Apollo no longer exists but a new music app that works just fine with nuplayer
6. Probably other stuff that I have not come across yet.
7. I have not been able to get the swype gesture on the keyboard. If you know why please tell us.
If you have suggestions:
Simply post it in the forum and I see What I can do about it. If there are

Looks like you may have fixed more than Apollo in that last build. Camera, calender, and multiple bluetooth pairing worked out-of-the-box. Runs good. Only crash I've encounter so far is in trying to access the in-built Superuser settings, but it's redundant if you use the SuperSU app anyway.
Good job!

Hey, First - Thank You for this ROM it's a great start !
I have been using it since you released it and I just wanted to give my two cents. For being an Alpha build, mostly everything works. I have noticed few bugs but the most annoying one for me is when I'm playing music. 1) I would use Play Music and at first it worked fine but as of today, for some reason, it would play for the first 10 seconds and than it would go off. The music ticker would be increasing but the sound would not play. I would have to skip ahead a track than go back to have it play fully. 2) I also rooted and flashed the ROM on to my coworkers phone and for some reason, his mobile Data wouldn't work yet Wi-Fi works perfectly fine. 3) Something else that I noticed was that, when closing apps, more often than not, after hitting the "close all" tap, I would open the recent apps again and I would have a application running which was closed. 4) I would also get a FC when trying to change the settings in the Messenger app. It's not that important but I thought that I should mention it anyway.
That's all I have at the moment, Thank You again for your hard work.

Thank you so much for the info I will update the thread with these bugs. Here are a few things:
1. for the music player problem go to settings->development options->switch the music option from "nuplayer" to "awesome player"
2. I have no encountered this problem. did you check the APN settings and made sure that network data is enabled?
3. I do sometimes run into this problem
4. Are you using the default messenger app? I use textra which is very similar in look and feel and so far no breakage.
I have been trying to compile a new version but for the past 2 days the latest code off the branch keeps of failing the build at different points. If I get to fix the errors I will try again to upload a new build.

OK so,
1) I had it checked on and now I unchecked it, I will use it as normal and proceed with an update.
2) I'll be honest, he was being an annoyance so I did not check his APN though you are probably right.
3) I am using the stock messenger app. I had the Google application on here but I was receiving and "message not sent" error for some odd reason.
PS: That was a fast reply, good stuff. :good:
Just an update on the Music bug, I unchecked the box as before and after nearly a 24 hour testing period, I have encountered the bug a few times but not a much as before. I would say that I would have to apply the walk around (Changing the track and than going back to what I actually want to listen too) around five times. That is way less than before, so it did address the bug but it did not kill it.

Have you tried other other music players such as play music? I want to know if the bug is exclusive to Apollo or not.
I did have the problem at the beginning and simply seeking the music it helped. I have not encounter that problem for sometime. Plus I have been using a bluetooth headphones so that may have something to do with my case.

Works great so far. Only issue I am getting g is that the screen won't turn off during call. The audio issue happened once and it worked later don't know why. My cars bluetooth works and controls audio but won't get the text messenges. Besides that feels great for being alpha. No crashes so far.

Just a quick update for those using this. I have created a new built for 20141223 but so far i cannot get it to flash on my phone. Something to do with incompatibility between recovery versions. If i get to fix it i will post further updates.
