I am looking for a new phone , its time to move one form my old xperia x8 ,, many people suggested me galaxy s2,, i wanted to know is it worth it? is it the best choice? i should also add i like to mod and tweak my phone a lot,,
Yes.
You can tweek and mod to your heart's content too.
One caveat - there's always something shiny and new around the corner, you may want to wait for the SG3.

so im not gonna wait for the gs3,, nexus or gs2 seems to be the choice for now
SGS3 will be released after MWC SGS2 is best at the present
SGS 2 is the best you can find right know..
I move from SGS to HTC Evo but got bored with it in weeks.
My Opinion its the best right know.
Although it's been out for some time, SGS2 is still one of the best phones on the market. Rooted and you can tweak as much as you like
Galaxy S2 vs Nexus? If we look at the hardware, I think that GS2 is superior to the nexus. Although it nexus comes with larger screen and higher resolution. If we look at software, ICS is on a Nexus in full glory. While on sgs2, ICS will come with tw, if I am in right.
But, with root access, you can do many things you like.
So, between this two, my favorite is galaxy s2.
the sgs2 is a really nice device, but samsung is really dragging their feet when it comes to ics updates. if u want a fully working ics rom, might want to buy a galaxy nexus. Also if you are a fan of aosp roms such as cyanogenmod 9, the nexus is the way to go
El mejor y esperando que llegue el S3
galaxy s2 is a great phone. if you want to mod you better find the i9100 international model with the exynos cpu and mali400 gpu and not any other variant of the same phone.
why? because it has far more support for custom roms and kernels than any other i9100 variat (they are many now T,G,P,M,N. maybe others or less. i think this are right).
i am really happy with my sgs2, in fact I use it every day more than my laptop. l totally recommend
It's a great phone.
Love the Super AMOLED Plus screen too, it's awesome.
Though you might want to consider waiting for the SGS3 or getting the Galaxy Nexus?
But the SGS2 is a good choice for a phone.
The phone is a joy. I managed to get my partner to upgrade to one, though I have to convice her that letting me flash a non-stock rom on it is a good idea As someone who had a programming background, but no real smartphone experience, it's been great, because it's eminently configurable, almost impossible to brick, and I can run my own homegrown apps on it. Highly recommended
I shadow most of the comments already made on here. This is surprisingly only my 2nd Android device, DHD was my first, also have a cheap T-Mobile Rapport as a backup.
But this phone rocks, sure like any phone it has it's flaws, so it's better to discuss those than it's pros, my major cons would be - SQ, although acceptable not great, with certain headphones you can hear the frequencies change which has be annoying, don't expect Voodoo sound like the original SGS which had a Wolfson DAC so that sound pretty good (I've got the tab which had Voodoo so clear difference in SQ).
Buggy software, like the stock email app on exchange it has wakelocks which can keep the device awake, this has ben fixed on the CM source but Samsung/Seven seem reluctant to fix this for GB, not sure how the ICS version fares not tried it and wont until we get an official rom.
Notification light, the major thing I miss from the DHD and previous phones like BB, very useful, BLN not as good as it drains battery.
Other than that I'm pretty happy with my device, had it since day 1 after Phones 4 U exclusive finished, an array of custom roms/kernels available to keep you busy for a while.
SGS3 will be announced maybe March 15th but who know's when it's release will be. I say buy it, enjoy it sell it or keep it after new phones from MWC etc are out.
You'll be happy with it.
I went with galaxy s2, rooted it, and absolutely love it! my friend has the nexus but I find it is too big and a little bulky for my liking. the bigger screen is nice but might also drain more battery. You can always go to a local retailer to see them both up close, that's what I did.

SGS2 really is a great phone. I even consider this phone as a laptop replacement!
Okay Galaxy s2 it is than
I have now Htc desire running gingerbread using custom rom and I want to buy a new phone , and I'm thinking of buying samsung galaxy s2 based on its reputation, will this idea be good or not as they both are running the same os and price of samsung galaxy s2 is kind of expensive.Does it worth. Thanks in advance.
galaxy s2 is much better compare to desire and s2 is now running with official ics. so if you got the right deal just go for it, else if you are not in a hurry to purchase and need something better wait for s3
you should wait for the launch of galaxy s 3 and buy the s2 then. the price will go down.
desire is an old phone, upgrade now to SII. SIII will be out in 8 - 10 months, and couple more for prices to get stable. thats a long time plus it will be as expensive or more when launched.
Get the GSII because it's a brilliant phone. It's still ahead of the competition, you can get a variety of great & stable roms and themes - and it's affordable now. Then change it 2 years from now with a cheap SGIII . . .

S3 is better than the S2, you want the best phone get the S3, you can't afford it, get the second best the S2. You're loosing 5mm on the screen size, some dpis (quite a bit actually ) and two cores.
Get an iPhone.
Seriously tho, get a Nexus. The last thing you want is to have anything to do with Samsung's ****ty firmware (even if it's only for a few hrs on the day you actually buy the phone). Samsung's refusal to play ball with developers has constantly made SGS2's devs lives difficult.

I thought the S2 had many custom ROMs , also what would be the difference in software between the S2 and the Nexus ?

S2 DOES have many custom ROMs. The issue isn't that...
I believe the issue is the inherent difficulty in getting ALL the hardware features supported with AOSP/AOKP builds due to how Samsung implemented their framework.
So though there are a lot of ROMs, both based on Samsung stock, and also AOSP and AOKP, the AOSP/AOKP ROMs don't support everything. I believe TV-out via MHL and FM radio are still not supported on AOSP/AOKP on the S2.
If you want the Android experience the way Google intended, get a Galaxy Nexus, as MistahBungle suggests.
They're a bit cheaper than the S2 right now anyways.
The only downside as far as I'm concerned about the GNex is the lack of external SD card support.
I was being facetious (well, sort of). What I meant was Samsung make a dog's breakfast of their firmware. Yes, there is plenty of custom firmware for the SGS2 which is its saving grace. However, Samsung stuffing up their firmware still makes life hard for devs. It makes it difficult for devs to get some features to work on custom roms (TV Out, WiFi Direct anyone ?). Ask people like Entropy512 & Codeworkx what they think of Samsung & their approach to firmware ;-D
With the Nexus it's Google firmware. Google don't seem to have an anti-dev stance like Samsung seem to have.
The only reason I got an S2 was due to the slightly better specs & the SD card capability. If I'd known about the firmware thing at the time, I might well have got a Nexus.
Put it this way, when I'm due to get another phone next year (assuming I don't kill my S2 in the meantime), if Google's phone at the time has a micro SD slot, I'll be getting it.
Edit - CTMG, read my mind ;-)

I dont know I'm a bit confused right now , I like the Nexus and I dont care about the SD card capability but I think the spec. of the S2 is a bit better like MistahBungle said and I want a phone that can hold on with me another year or two , so would i feel the difference between the Nexus and the S2 in the spec. ?

They both have their strengths and weaknesses. I personally like the feel of the S2 over the Nexus, but you may think differently.
If you're talking about performance, it will depend on what angle you're looking at. The TI OMAP in the GNex is better than the Exynos in the S2 in some areas, and vice versa in other areas.
From most reports, the two phones are pretty neck and neck, each edging the other out slightly in some areas.
The camera in the GNex is 5MP vs 8MP in the S2, but megapixels isn't everything when it comes to picture quality. The sensor in the Nexus is slightly bigger, and has zero shutter lag, which compensates for the difference in pixel count.
So in conclusion... it depends.
Your best bet is to go to a store that has both models on the floor for demo units, and to play with them both to see which one you like.
I´d buy the S3 if I had the money tho, but S2 will be enough for at least this year.
Coming from Galaxy S i9000, what do you think is the main reason to upgrade from SGS3 and not to SGS2, spending about 230€ more?
If you want bigger screen, simultaneous photo and video and NFC then get the S3, but if not the S2 can do almost everything and probably will get stuff like Smartstay ported over soon, so just depends if you really want the latest tech because sad to say the S3 really isn't that much better in real life use.

Good rationale, thanks for your interest.
Any other user suggestion?
I really waver between them
Work out what you can afford or want to spend .
Yes S3 is better but not that much better .
S2 are selling around £250 used on ebay S3 Sim free is £500 .
Could get new S2 cheaper in a few weeks .
I am happy with my SGS2 and even happier with my SGS3 but not when i stop and think what i spent .

I'd like to ask everybody if it really worth buying this phone. I have enough money to do that but shall I do that or buy some other phone?
Wait for LG, it's x2.5 more powerful, i guess

After owning the s3 for about 2 months. i can perfectly say that this is the best android phone available right now. If you want a phone thats will knock out every other mobile in the market get the s3.
I would suggest waiting for the release of the updated version of the S3 which has LTE (international version) and 2GB RAM compared to 1GB on the current i9300.
If you don't care about LTE and the extra 1GB of RAM, it's still worth waiting as the current version of the S3 should fall in price.
I have used Galaxy S , S II and SIII. Each one is worth every penny spent on it.
No existing device is better than SIII.
I you want to wait there will always be a qeue of more powerfull device coming and you will never be able to decide.
I had been with my S II for exactly 9 months when the S III was released. I wrote here on XDA that I'd never move up to the S III because it wasn't worth it...
... that lasted until I played with the phone for 5 minutes in a store. I bought mine in the same day and don't regret a bit.
Get it, man! It will be the best phone you'll ever have.
Get it. I love my S3. Waiting for jelly bean.

I've used SGS I, skip the SGS II, and now using the SGS III.
(Monster) Specs aside, the one thing why I decided to go with SGS III, and not it's competitor, is because I know it'll be a popular device like its predecessors.
From my experience using SGS I (a device I bought 2 years ago) popularity also contributed to your phone "lifespan". No official ICS or JB for i9000, but because it's popularity you'll find abundant custom rom with gazillion tweaks, mods, and kernel for it in community support forum like XDA.
Beside's that, I'm already quite familiar with the SGS environment such as the 3 magic combo, Odin, etc. Too lazy to learn from the start if I chose another phone
Wait for the i9305 (S3 international Lte)
It will probably be a bit pricier than the current 500€ for the i9300 but comes with 2GB Ram and an additional Lte modem.
Btw the i9000 has Jellybean through Cm. Just not official crappy-touchwiz jellybean =)

Yes that's what I meant on my post before, no ics & jb from samsung but alot of custom one from community, but didn't type the "official" part . Already edited that one
