No GPS :( - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hey Guys I have 27 satellites and my phone can't lock on to any of them.
I am rooted on the stock ROM. Can anyone give me any pointers?

Are you inside a building or house. Gps doesnt always lock when in a building. Could also be that your rooted. Are you using a rom other than stock. Sometimes these roms have issues working with wifi, gps and other hardware.

I am in a building, but it is weird how it says 27 sats but I can't lock.. seems like software issue. I am on the stock ROM.

Myself and others have had this issue. Try the following: when in the GPS related ap, pull down the notification bar and cycle the GPS off and on. With mine (and others) GPS will lock almost instantly after returning to the ap.
/found in another thread that this appears to be software related. I can confirm this as I had the problem until I uninstalled GPS Test. Check any ap you've installed related to the GPS and see if the error is resolved.

So it turns out mine works great outside my job and doesn't work at all inside my job... I never had that issue on my old phones.. but w.e... This thread can be deleted.
Thanks guys,

GPS Works Great - Only when WiFi off

So I'm using Nero V4.1 and was all excited as GPS locks seemed to finally work right. Couple days later I started using WiFi and leaving it on and suddenly my GPS wouldn't lock again. Just turned off WiFi and Presto GPS locks again. I was getting so ready to dump this phone with all the GPS fixes that never worked. I'm just leaving WiFi off for now as really need GPS with Navigation. Maybe the devs can find the conflict with WiFi, for now just leaving it off. Thanks SomBionix for getting us a working GPS.

I have the same problem... from my investigations, it's appears to be a hardware problem, not a software issue. I haven't investigated it in depth, but I think there's some interference going on. With the crappy hardware design that is the I9000 when it comes to antenna's and wireless signals, it doesn't really surprise me that both of them can't function properly at the same time.
I never have Wifi on and GPS never works on Nero V4.1, but Axura has always worked for me.
Same here running nero v4.1. Oddly enough, as long as you turn wifi off initially and start your gps app then turn wifi back on, it functions just fine.
I get the same result regardless of wifi on v3.
Where would you go that you need wifi and gps? Do you have wifi in your car? Do you need gps in your house? also im on nero v4 and dont have these problems

How do I flash this gps rom?

hardware issue...
Its likely cause of RF interference as mentioned in the hardware fix found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878970
Samsung really dropped the ball with this phone.
Software. Your A-GPS is trying to connect to the provider's server. With Wi-Fi on the server does not know if the phone is using provider's service. Change the server name to supl.google.com in LbsTestMode and the GPS will work for you with Wi-Fi on.
I had no problems with gps in Nero 3, but it is taking at least twice as long to lock on Nero 4. I just flashed the new modem. Let's see if that fixes it.

CM7 GPS Issues

Hello again. Recently I created a topic dealing with low call volume in CM7 and fortunately that has been fixed with the help of pcpark(numbers?) and myself. Unfortunately, I cannot for the life of me get the GPS to work. It was working in previous build but the latest July 4th build does not seem to want to lock. I am using the official ED04 modem because of the missed calls issues due to EC09 and I previously used ED01 but without result. Google Maps puts me relatively close to my home address and with Wifi it's pretty much exact but the GPS symbol never stops flashing, indicating that it's still locking. Navigation is completely broken, as it says at the bottom "Searching for GPS" but most of the time it never locks or if I get lucky it will lock for the duration that I'm using it but when I try to open it again, it won't lock. GPS Status displays that my phone's GPS is working correctly but it too has the flashing, not locked icon. Is there anyone who has been having similar issues or does anyone know of a fix? This ROM is so close to perfection and GPS is hardly a huge issue but it irritates me because it worked previously.
Try downloading GPS Aids and GPS Tests to see how many satellites you see and how many you lock on. I couldnt get a lock after 30 seconds on my fascinate ran aids and literally went from seeing 5 to 11 and from locking to 1 to 9 in under two seconds
Holy crap it worked!! Thanks a lot
Np, glad it helped.
Thread started by neh4pres might provide some additional tips:

I remember reading something about using GPS Status to "wake up" the GPS and I have always used it but I did not know you could reset the GPS. Thanks for the help!

Help! GPS has stopped working (t-mobile uk)

Hi there - wondering if anyone else has experienced this or can help me. Have seen some similar-ish threads dating back many months but nothing exactly seems to answer this
Until last week, the GPS on my S2 was working fine. Always locked pretty quickly etc.
But for the last week or so, I cannot seem to get a GPS fix AT ALL. I have tried restarting, clearing the aGPS data, etc. etc.
I have installed GPS Status and GPS Aids from the marketplace as recommended in some places. GPS Status shows many satellites being detected in grey, but nothing locks on to them. My phone is not rooted so I have not tried to alter settings etc. as yet, as not really sure this is the problem as I have not changed anything recently. (Could t-mobile have done something on their end that is causing it maybe.. ??)
I am running stock ICS on t-mobile.
Any illumination anyone could offer would be most appreciated!
many thanks
Have you flashed any rom?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Even if it was a carrier update, no need to be a custom rom.
I use GPS-Test to "test" my GPS, can you please install it tell us what is the biggest SNR you get?
I think you will only get a lock if you have at least 3 sats with SNR above 30.

i was using gps status and aid like you did. didnt work till i tried gps test plus.
Many thanks for all the replies
@arc Have not flashed a ROM, just using stock ROM which got upgraded automatically to ICS from gingerbread a few months ago
@zedread Installed GPS Test and tried it briefly just now. Get 7-9 satellites with SNRs of between 20 and 40. All of them stay grey and none of them get used for locking. This is similar to what I have seen in GPS status etc. (i.e. it seems to find satellites but does not proceed to try and lock any of them...all of them always stay grey)
@happily can you advise what it is in GPS Test Plus that helped? Just got the free version at the moment.
Anyone have any more ideas?
Many thanks
Try FasterFix from Google Play Store.....good luck.

Gps Problems

Hi, I bought a Motorola Atrix in Amazon 2 months ago. Since start the Gps din't work at all, 0 in view in apps like "Gps test". I tried almost everything: changing gps.conf, flashing radios, using custom roms like Nottachtrix and CM7, and reverting back to stock via rsd. Btw, a friend of mine who bought the same phone at the same time, had problems with gps in stock rom, but after flashing CM7, it worked just fine.
So, I ask you to help me giving any ideas to fix this.
Maybe this can be useful: The Atrix came with Italian retail rom and N_01.100.00R radio.
Thanks a lot.
PS: Sorry if I don't write quite well, I'm not an english natural speaker.

If you use an app such as GPS status do you pick up any satellites? It seems to be a common problem to find the satellites but not to be able to get a lock.
Also is you install GPS Status it will allow you to update the agps files.
Did you try gps lock with data access enabled? And as eddhard said do you pick any satellites?
In the gps settings menu turn OFF the options to use mobile networks or wifi. Then use the gps status or gps test app outside in a clear view for a minute or two. If it reports an accuracy distance as 0 or an error there is an issue with your gps that I might have a solution for.
For no reason my gps straight up failed to get a lock. In the test apps, it would see 9-10 satellites with strong signal but never wanted to get a lock. Multiple multiple factory resets, formats, any other variable I tried to change and the issue persisted.
I've attached the file that fixed the issue for me. Extract the libnmea.so and place it in your /system/lib folder after you make a backup of the existing file. Let us know if that helps.

Thanks for your answers, the problem isn't the locking of any of the sats. Test apps show "0 in view" even on outdoors.
I don't have a solution. But I've had a lot of difficulty with GPS on my Atrix as well. I can get a lock usually after a minute or so, but then the GPS would go to sleep. So if I'm moving or logging a route, it'll show me where I started even after several minutes. I flashed radios, updated gps conf, and used GPS Status & Toolbox to get a lock. Still no improvement. It helped me get the initial lock, and didn't resolve the freezing issue. I eventually gave up and bought separate GPS. So I'd be interested to know if you find a way to fix this.
Guys, if you don't see any satellites in GPS Status app, maybe is hardware issue. If you have warranty, use it. If you don't, try to disassemble your phone and look. Maybe just cable is disconnected or has bad contact. Of course be very careful with disassembling or ask someone with experiences. Youtube guide how to change digitizer on Atrix could be useful.
Good luck
I had problems with GPS fix on AT&T atrix 4g with N_01.100.00R europe radio. After flashing 37p at&t radio gps works perfectly, fix is really fast.
Also WiFi signal strength increased.

GPS Problem

I have a GPS problem / question. I'm on Galaxy Note fre3 Hybrid De[Odex] v2.11 but I don't believe this is a ROM issue. I have certain apps that require location services and GPS to be on, example would be the WWE app or even our SBarometer app. If I turn GPS on and enable location services, the apps do not detect that GPS is on and I have no GPS icon in my status bar. If I use GPS Status it's fine. Any ideas? It's not app settings because on my Mega when I open the same apps the GPS icon comes on immediately and the app works properly.
Have you found a fix for this? I am on stock 4.4.2 with root, and I have been having the same GPS issue for several months now. Whenever I use Waze, it's constantly looking for a GPS signal, and MapMyRun will find it and drop it several times while I run making it impossible to track my runs. One other thing I did notice, is when I'm using Waze, if I turn the screen off, it locks on to the GPS. I can tell it's locked on because the voice commands start giving me directions, but when I turn the screen back on, it looses the GPS signal again. I would really like to get this issue fixed. The only other option will be to take it back to Sprint for an exchange.

I too am having a GPS problem. I'm Stock and not rooted with the most recent Sprint OTA (NK4). I've been suffering with this since NH7 came out and no ROMs, stock or otherwise have fixed my problem. Any recommendations on what I should flash? I'm considering doing an Odin Flash of NC5 just to see if that would help.
I have read through this thread, the first thing I would try is to update your PRL and profile. If GPS works on some apps and not on others I'd be willing to bet there's nothing wrong with the device or a stock rom running on it. I would try and contact customer service for the app and see if others are having the same problems with the apps., and see if there is a fix.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidlab.gpsfix I've heard people say this app has helped them with there GPS issues. Hope it helps
