Keep my Note 2 or get the up coming HTC one? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

First off is like to say that I love my note!
I love the development and the community that is in these threads.
But the HTC one just looks so sweet and the specs are great, so I'm wondering if it is worth getting.
Believe me, I bought and sold the s4 within the same weekend so that's that.
Personally I thought the s4 is over rated and desperately wanted my note back after two days.
I also have the HTC DNA that is in waiting to be unlocked
Since it is not rooted, my opinion seems rather bias on the whole sense thing so I try to ignore that fact.
However,
I know no one has the Verizon HTC one yet so it is truly hard to know. But I was wondering what everyone's opinion on this is.
Do you think that you would give up your note for this?
Why or why not.
Thank you all for the input.

I've had thr note 2 and htc one now I have an s4 ! S4 is much better then both if the note 2 had the s4 screen quality I'd have kept the note 2 all day

Not that I own the HTC One, but I have really been enjoying the Note II. I don't think it would be worth the change. You'd get nice speakers.. but overall that's all I can think of. The screen and battery make the One look like a Zero in my book! :victory:

Yeah. That's true. The note 2 battery is just insane. But I mean is the HTC bad or is it just decent on battery?

I have seen multiple people claiming their HTC One lasts all day, but it has a 2300 mAh battery pushing 1080p display. So I find it hard to believe, unless they're not using it much. I am really spoiled with my GN2 lasting well into a 2nd day between charges, and I simply could not go back to a phone with less battery life.
I am sure the 1080p display is gorgeous, and it's probably a matter of ignorance is bliss and not knowing what I am missing...but the GN2 display is just fine for my needs. The highest resolution videos that I watch are Youtube "HD" videos. I don't watch Blue-ray rips or any other ultra-HD content, so 720p is adequate for me. And I know this sounds snooty, but I find it hard to watch videos or even look at photos on a smaller phone. Every time someone wants to show me a web page or a funny video, I'm almost tempted to say "hold on, let me pull it up on my phone"
I guess it all depends on your priorities. Do you want the latest and greatest phone albeit with a smaller (but higher res) display? Can you get by without a removable battery? Are you willing to keep a charger handy at all times? Can you live without expandable memory? Those are tough questions...

Only reason I would get an HTC One would be the camera. HTC always uses superior camera optics. But the note 2 is better for me in every other way especially since I have a digital camera if I need a powerful shot anyways. I love my note but the HTC one is really sexy, but I also love sense. Haha

Honestly the HTC One is not really an upgrade. More of a "sidegrade". My girlfriend has it and basically it has better speaker's and a better camera at night. I truly prefer the vibrant oled screen of my GN2 more then the led of the One(not to mention we have the choice to make our screen less vibrant in display settings). She has to keep her phone in battery saving mode to make it through a day. I can leave everything on with high brightness and get though a day no problem. Not to mention that my phone is easily faster then hers because if that stupid battery saver mode. Unless you really cant hang with a 5.5 screen I think you will be disappointed with the switch.

Don't even try. I tried . Paid 35 restocking fee and come back to Note 2 in 2 days. The look wears off. Screen gets tired. Battery issue is in the end the biggest thing. The HTC one in my hand can't run the whole day time after full night charge

with regards to your initial question about keeping the note 2 vs buying the HTC one, id advise sticking with your note 2. I havent seen anyone that went from a note 2 to something else without their incessant complaining about the screen size and battery life. Honestly, arent those pretty damn important? But allow me to direct you to a different question..What do you think about the rumored T6? a 6" HTC one, reportedly (among other, more farfetched, rumors) with an SD card slot and a 3300 mah battery. that intrigues me.

HTC Rezound over Sammy Nexus??????

I don't know, for some reason I'm feeling like the Rezound might be the best new Verizon phone. Of course this is completely dependent upon Devs hooking up the Rezound with ICS and the latest and greatest. I think they will tho. And I'm "noob" status when it comes to dev knowledge and modding, but it seems the HTC may surprise people VS sammy phone
Now I admit I don't know much about all the hardware that goes into these devices, but to me the Nexus has the advantage because, well, it's a Nexus! And that is strictly a software advantage as it will most likely get timely, BS free updates because it's Google's baby.
While I have loved my TB, I think it is because of all the GREAT developer support! Have I not rooted this device I would imagine that I would be a little more than frustrated with it by now. From the GB update tabacle to HTC saying that it will not be officially be getting Sense 3.0. Not to mention the reboot issues early in the devices career. IMO, the development for this device saved it ... IMO any way.
I will be getting the Nexus when it drops and I will be enjoying ICS goodness :-D I will have my TB waiting on the sidelines in the event something happens to my GN ...

Ooooooppps!
Yes, Devs most definitely saved this phone!
another thread about these eh?...
"if" I get a new phone, it's going to be the reZound as it's the successor to the greatest phone ever made, the Thunderbolt.
specs aside, I'm certain there's going to be a lot of support(roms/kernals/radios) just lke the Thunderbolt.
RAZR lost me with the non-removable battery(locked bootloader also, but I'm sure devs will get around that)
Nexus lost me with the 'no microSD' support & the 5MP camera(common! who doesn't use their phone to take nice pics these days anyway!?)
you could argue that Nexus will have ICS, but all 3 will in time(officially). not to mention unoffical roms that we'll all be using anyway
I must agree, Dev's really did save this phone. I'm also getting the Nexus but keeping the bolt on my desk just in case.
Coming from having the OG Droid for almost two years to the DInc. (only had the Inc. for two weeks) to the Thunderbolt. I will miss Sense, I am a fan, but I think ICS will be a nice change.
I am getting one or the other, will wait to play with in person. I am guessing HTC may get better battery life on ICS. I think the Nexus may be a tad to big and no SD card slot or removable battery, which sucks, but I am sure the screen will be incredible. The Rezound will have to impress to keep me with HTC.

The Nexus does have a removable battery.
keep in mind that the nexus is 1.2GHz dc & the rezound is 1.5GHz dc.
the nexus may also have a bigger screen(4.65" instead of 4.3") but it's not a super amoled + & has same pixel count as the iphone's 3.5" screen.

Higher MP doesn't mean that the camera will take better pics. It's all about the sensors that the phone uses. And if you want to take "nice pics", you should get a camera for that, not a phone.

oh I've got a 14mp panasonic lumix for that... but your phone is generally always on you, your camera is not. you need to make sure you are properly covered at all times for emergency picture taking. because you never know when "mother of god!!.. what the hell!?.." and you need to capture the moment.
not to mention paranormal occurances.
Don't get me wrong, I use my phone to take pics quite often. But is there really that big of a difference between 3 mega pixel? I never remember complaining about the pics my D1 took.
I could just be jaded by my desire for the Nexus, IDK

As mentioned, it's not "mp's" that makes great pictures it's the sensors. The only good thing about an 8mp over a 5mp is if you want to zoom in on someone and see if they have bloodshot eyes! Or more realistically, if you want to blow up a picture to poster size and not lose quality. I think the SGN went 5mp to gain better 0 shutter speed lag.
Anyhow, there are TONS of articles and forums posts that explain this in way better details. Point be said, the SGN having 5mp should NOT be a negative factor.

if you don't upgrade phones very often, wait a couple of weeks and see what deals that best buy, amazon and wirefly offer. I got 2 tbolts, 2 dinc2's for 300 total from amazon.
As far as the rezound, wow!!!
Better specs than I thought it would see. Thank you HTC for finally getting the screen right.
I was definitely in the nexus camp, but now, as long as we can get root on the rezound, I will probably get that after xmas. I like the no buttons look of ICS, but have preferred HTC over samsung for a long time now.
Did we get specs on how much storage the rezound is going to have? I'm hoping 32gb internal like the Nexus.

Phone envy? Not yet.

The two phones I would be envious of right now is the HTC One X and Galaxy S3.
I recently held the One X demo/fake unit in my hand and it was nice. I liked how thin the bezel was all around. It was almost all screen. But it doesn't have a removable battery and I doubt with my heavy usage habits it would last me all day.
With the Galaxy S3, it has a 2100mAh battery which is impressive, but a comparison showed that it is similar in size to the Galaxy Nexus, which was too wide for my hands.
The Rezound still has a very nice screen, and a fast dual core that will still be fast enough for a while. Now that I have the extended battery, my phone easily lasts all day even with my heavy use.
So I'm not itching to get a new phone yet. I wonder what the next wave of phones will be like. Then I'll have phone envy.

I agree. The new phones are nice, but the rezound is still better. People think it is an old phone. It may have been out for a while, but it still has specs that beat 99% of the other phones on the market.

Not me. If I were buying a phone today (and it were available on Verizon), I'd take the One X over the Rezound... but, thats only because it IS a better phone... To say that I'm envious of it though would be a lie, because the fact is that I am still extremely happy with the Rezound and feel that it hasn't even the chance to show us its full potential yet.
Not envious of any. One X is cool but lack of removable battery blows me. I burn down two extended batteries in one day sometimes.

Man, I never knew how nice it is to have an extended battery. Just not having to worry about battery life is a HUGE plus. Even having a thicker phone is worth it. It makes the Rezound look awkward, but it actually feels good to hold.
Between the One X and S3, I think the One X looks better. But if I were to choose one to buy, I would get the S3 just for the bigger battery. Also, the S3 would probably be more root and S-Off friendly.
From the various article I've read, Verizon will not get the One X, but the S3 seems probable.
P.S. How do you go through 2 extended batteries in a day? I thought I was a heavy user with all my game playing and web surfing. I can still make it through the day with just one extended battery.
The only thing Im jealous about that the galaxy has is aosp. As it is getting harder to get aosp working on HTC phones I may consider Samsung for next phone. I love htc I just home the rezound will get it someday

Tbh I'm up at 6 am, phone off the charger and I'm listening to morning Jams. That's like 40 minutes streaming, then I drive to the subway then get on the train for 30,that's more of me streaming music, surfing the Internet, texting, on uno online. Then I get to work and literally use my phone from 9am to 530. Streaming, playing, netflix and texting. And I have my screen on auto or max. Then I'm back on the bus doing the reverse. Get home, back to streaming and more. But sometimes I work overtime.

Should I dump the DNA for the N2?

Hey guys, so I sold my GS3 for the Droid DNA and I actually do like the phone so far. I wanted to try something different and this screen is definitely beautiful.
With that being said, I am strongly considering exchanging within my 14 days and getting the N2. The battery life will be much better on the N2 and I will get removable storage and battery and will gain the s pen.
I know that nobody can make the decision for me, but please give me your opinions. Good idea?
Thanks!

I actually have both.
I bought the DNA for the screen resolution and Sense, then decided to also try out the Note 2 with the intention of just returning the Note 2 because I figured it would be too big. Well it's bigger but I fell in love with it. I have not put my SIM back in my DNA since I came home. The only reason I keep it is because I like to have a current sense device to use/play with once in awhile.
Once you start using this 5.5in screen, it is REALLY hard to use anything else. The DNA screen feels so small now. What the Note 2 lacks in screen resolution it more than makes up for with deep blacks and popping colors.
The DNA is a sweet device. However, IMO, the Note 2 is just in another league as far as usability and features. Battery life? You cannot even compare the two. The DNA must be recharged at some point but the Note 2 ALWAYS makes it thru the day for me. I have never had an Android device with battery life this long.
Two and a half weeks ago I'd never used a device this big, now I don't really see myself using anything else in the future. Note 3 or bust
On the surface the DNA has the nicer screen, both have 16GB of internal storage but the ext. sd card plus the S-Pen features and multi-window are worth it for me to pass right by the DNA. I will say unless Verizon starts going 32GB as a base model I will have to switch carriers and go international units with 32GB or more.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head! I toyed with the decision to get the DNA too but I could not use it as my daily driver so that makes it a useless device IMO... It does have excellent specs beside the 2 FATAL flaws. I loved the S3 but it could not make it through the day, BUT I had the option of quickly replacing the battery and movin on where as you don't with the DNA. If I am gonna drop this much cash it's gotta have the 2 things that the DNA does not have. Bad decision on Verizon's part to gimp that phone and even a worse decision for HTC to allow them to do that to a flagship device!

I could not of said it any better! :highfive:
I got the DNA on release day and took it back once the note 2 came out. At first I was torn about replacing it but once I used the note 2 for a day I never looked back. The DNA is a find device in itself but battery life was prime for me and the note 2 gets me through an entire day.

i really wish the android community showed its disapproval at vzw crippling the dna by not buying it.
seriously, vzw is finally getting people off unlimited plans, then forces htc to release a device with very limited storage to push the data...... and people actually bought it?
My gf just got the DNA. It's a really nice phone. I'm actually jealous but I think overall the bigger the screen the better to me. I can deal with the battery and lack of sd card.

Good idea?
Thanks!

I think you are making a good move, as long as you DONOT mind the 5.5 inch screen. Not everyone can get used to it. It is harder to single-handedly handle it in a busy situation (holding things on the other hand while incoming call rings etc etc)
But I have big hands, I can handle it single handedly pretty easy so I love the phone.
Screen of 1080p is big selling point, but your eyes will get used to it sooner rather than later. 720p aren't bad , of course. it is good enough to watch 720p HD movie for me. Oh, you need a strong battery to watch movies like that ... which Note 2 can take the task.
I must mention, while many people here may disagree or don't appreciate as much, is Samsung's software power. it is just getting incredible. It has many small surprised that will make you feel like you use same buck but banged more features.
Like quick glance, smart alert, S-Pen series of apps, Photo Desk, AND one more tip, VIDEO PLAYING ON TOP OF EVERYTHING...
I have a blog entry about this. Check this out.
I'm not sure about others but I barely use the s-pen anymore I thought I'd be more active with it but at work it seemed to slow me down

Thanks guys, I really do appreciate all of the feedback!
This is still a tough decision for me. I haven't had a HTC phone in a while so it's kind of fresh. At the same time the N2 will put me back in a comfort zone coming from the S3.
Let me ask this.... If removable storage and battery wasn't a huge issue, would you still choose the N2 over the DNA?
Thanks guys!

Spen to me seemed kind of gimmicky or something (but it kind of needs one) It'd be good for draw something though right!? Lol. Me want the n2 but I think I'm going to wait for the n3. I'm just hella bored with my rezound.
The more I use both the dna is more comfortable to use if it had ext storage I think many users would of went that direction especially since the screen n processor are superior... but I seem to use my note 2 more it's tough by a note2 and use both lol

I thought I was not using much of it too. But it tends out to be incorrect IN MY CASE. Of course it is different everyone .
After watching over 36 youtube videos made by that guy in Korea about tips of using Galaxy Note 2, I really feel that it has strong features that can really make a difference to the way we work/live. To me, that is the ultimate reason for chasing new technology --- to make my life better (either simpler or more efficient)
Today in a meeting at work, I took the pen out to take notes. about 10 pages over all. It is GREAT. It looked professional with a pen in your hand in meeting environment, very different from some MDs using iPad with fingers to take note,iPad always makes people feel that you are slacking or playing.
It is like Blackberry vs iPhone. Still, I think the former gives most people a more professional feeling. Latter one more hippy/casual/fun.
my 2 cents.
Hell yeah...

Honesty, yes I would. I happen to have had, and continue to have access to both. For me, the feature set on the Note 2 is just too impressive/useful compared to the DNA. There are so many cool things to do with the s-pen and multi-window/pop-up browser that I just couldn't (or at least really wouldn't want to) live without.

Your thoughts of this phone

So my upgrade is in a couple weeks. So I'm debating between this phone, Samsung galaxy s3, or the Samsung galaxy note 2. What are your opinions on droid dna
Sent from my VS910 4G using xda premium
Imo, unless you absolutely need to have a battery that can last a whole weekend get the dna. If you do need that kind of battery life then get the note
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
This phone is kick ass. Battery life is great. If you're in an area where you're not going to be using the internet for a bit then I would suggest turning your data connection off. You will still be able to get texts but you can't browse. The Note II is too damn big and the S3 has a lot of signal issues from what my friends, who have the device, tell me.
Okay thanks for you opinions. I been stuck with the lg revolution since I got it when it came out. Worst mistake on picking a phone ever

Samsung quality and looks are nowhere near HTC. I had Galaxy SIII (and original Note), DNA is so much classier, looks better, feels better, perfoms better, has bigger screen, but doesn't feel bigger at all. Note 2 is a separate issue. It has some nice features over DNA, but still, it's Samsung, it's cheap. Also, like it was already mentioned, Samsung phones are full of bugs, and there radios are not good. Signal is weaker, problems with Wi-Fi..... And did I mention, that damn sleek cheap plastic! You think I formed an opinion about it yet?

I'm really enjoying my DNA. I debated between the note 2 and gs3 but I've heard and read about their fragile screens. I can't have a phone that will break if I drop it. People knock the lack of sd and removable battery. But drop box gives you 25 gigs of space for 2 yrs, and as far as battery I can easily get through the day with moderate use and the brightness on max. After rooting and running this sweet Viper Rom the phone is smoother then a baby's butt.
imo.. but for not being 32gb or having the sd card slot, this is the best phone ever made to date. I manage my company's smartphone contract so I get to play with them all.
amazing build quality looks and feel. top of the line hardware specs..battery life is good... REALLY good/ amazing with the dev kernels available. quality custom Roms.. actually that's insulting.. incredible custom Roms available for this phone.
we're about to go s-off... life is good.

the note 2 is a creature onto itself. if you want an oversized plastic monstrosity that can perform... have at it.
DNA crushes the S3.. easily
and seriously.. if the file is THAT important the DNA has plenty of storage space.. if your music or other forms of entertainment are mission critical to access trapped under a building or in the middle of nowhere then you need to review your priorities in life.
as for the USA comment.. last time I checked the DNA was made exclusively from Verizon which last time I checked was a corporate entity doing business in America... so honestly the rest of the world can go suck it.. USA! USA! Lol
I would hold out for about 6 weeks and get the S4
I really fretted the decision of a new phone as my upgrade was from the Htc thunderbolt. I looked at the S3 it seemed ok but had a cheap plastic feel like I could break it by holding it to tight. Plus I dont care for touch wiz. Moto Razor maxx HD screen still has gray tint to every thing not as bright, dull colors as moto always had. And typical moto style. Thought both phones had good and bad as all do, when I looked the DNA at the big red store it was hands down the fastest phone I had ever picked up. screen colors beautiful felt better to hold than S3 or moto seems I forgot I ever had a TB was worried about no SD card but no problems yet and battery life is so much better than TB with extended battery I am truely a happy DNA owner hope you will be to

The big question is what makes this phone any better then the rest? Well for me its really just a couple things. The first thing is I like Sense. Now people say well whats Sense? They are widgets designed by HTC. Some of them include the Weather Clock Widget that shows animated weather on your home screen when the phones unlocked. HTC includes bookmark, people, weather widgets all designed by HTC. Now you maybe thinking well weatherbug has widgets already (for example). Their widgets are crap in comparison IMO. That said I also like the wireless charging (cost 40 bucks for the charger). I like the LCD display looks fantastic. The phone doesn't feel like a cheap plastic kids toy. And that's all I have to say about that.

Galaxy Nexus to HTC Droid DNA

I'm currently debating whether to pick up the Galaxy Note 2 or the HTC DNA. I love the form factor of the DNA and it's 1080p, sense has always been of interest as well. I currently own a Galaxy Nexus, the new Nexus 4 is kind of underwhelming so I think I'm gonna take a break from the google line of devices.
what do you guys say?
I looked at both before I got the DNA. The Galaxy Note 2 was just to big for me. The screen on the DNA is much better. The also I prefer Sense over Touchwiz and Sense 4+ is the best yet. The biggest problem people have with DNA is the 16gb of space on the phone. You can easily get around this since the phone has usb-otg built in. With an adapter you plug in any size USB device. I have a dongle with a 64gb microsd card. It also works with TWRP recovery so you can backup your phone to it if you choose to unlock your phone.
The DNA is also a world phone, correct? I live in Pakistan (where all the networks are GSM) and plan on having a friend of mine bring a DNA over from the states. I've read that they're unlocked out of the box and can be used on virtually any network.

Yups, u should be able to use it in Pakistan. All GSM frequency/band are UNLOCKED in this phone.
Iam using mine in India
My previous phone was also a GNex.
DNA is at another level to GNex. Quad-core, Bigger and better screen , better sound quality, better camera, better battery life.
The only thing GNex has over DNA is custom ROMs. But you should try out ViperDNA. It kicks ass !!
We should be getting AOSP pretty soon :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
The thing that sold me was the 1080p screen... Everything looks phenomenal on this thing. I was nervous about the battery life but that had ended up impressing me also. This has honestly be the best phone I have ever owned
man you guys are getting me pumped. I might have the phone by the 3rd week of march.
The only thing that bothers me is the Verizon logo tbqh.
I bought the note 2 but after two weeks it was just too big. Swapped it for this and never looked back!
For what it's worth I came from galaxy nexus and get easily double the battery life on this phone.

I'm surprised to see so many gnex owners made the switch to DNA. That says a lot about the quality of the phone in my opinion. I'm not surprised you guys love the phone though, I guess its just that I've seen so much (unnecessary in my opinion) debate about all the things wrong with sense and HTC from gnex users.
I'm one of the rare people that loves both, but if I wasn't allowed more than one interface it would definitely be sense.

I'm going to provide a somewhat tenuous dissenting opinion. I'm coming from a Gnex, and picked up a DNA last night, which I'm considering switching to full time. After 24 hours with it, I'm quite pleased by the hardware, and utterly horrified by the software.
Sense is, in my opinion, complete and utter crap. There's no other way for me to put it, I hate almost everything about it. It's as if they locked several caffeinated adolescent boys in a room and told them to design a skin while watching episodes of Transformers. Viper is making it somewhat tolerable, but man am I anxiously awaiting AOSP. That said... the hardware, oh the hardware. The screen is simply gorgeous, and the battery life is easily twice what I got with my Gnex. In addition, I have 2-3 bars of 4G at work where I had 0-1 bars of 3G before.
The hardware advantages this has over the Gnex are sufficient to keep me from selling this thing in the hopes that AOSP is coming soon. If anyone reading is on the fence, and isn't sure how they'll feel about Sense, I'd advise waiting for prices to come down. I'll probably still pop my SIM into the Gnex here and there to experience Android as it was intended to be.
I too came from the gnex and while I loved the phone itself and devolopment. I couldnt stand the poor reception and battery life. I got the DNA on launch day and have never regreted it. battery life is great and so is the radio reception! As far as development goes you cant beat Viper rom been running it for a good while now and dont even miss AOKP anymore .I am sure you will love this phone!

As much as I hated it when I first switched, I actually kind of like sense now.... But maybe because every phone I have had before this one I ran CM or some form of aosp and the "newness" of sense keeps me interested. I really LOVE sense camera especially with the mod to make compression next to minimal. I get amazing pictures that the aosp (bless its soul) could never produce.

I actually don't game all that much, I might start though with that beautiful 1080p 5" screen. That said, I'm aware that many games don't work just yet, if that's the point you're insinuating.

This is exactly how I feel. Having first owned a G2x and then a Galaxy Nexus, the untainted google experience is starting to get a little stale. This is why I hope the DNA and sense will distract me for at least a year or longer... especially if Sense 5 is on the way.
Can only add to what others have said. I also came from the Nexus. Before that I had the incredible and sense.
The piss poor reception is what ultimately made me pay full retail for the DNA. Only downfall is the 16GB memory and annoying WiFi notification.
This phone is amazing though.

I just recently made the jump from the Galaxy Nexus to the Droid DNA. I resisted Sense at first being so used to the Stock UI but have come to really enjoy it. This phone is amazing though. Beautiful screen and very snappy performance. Anyone know how easily the back cover scratches? I prefer the naked feel and don't really want a case. In short it was a good move to go to the DNA.
BS
The process
so my question is what is the process of unlocking and turning s-off on this bad boy, i have never owned a htc device before
