Sometimes when im reading something or viewing and the screen turns off, i want to turn it on again so i press the home button, that both turns the screen on and closes the open app. should it be this way? and does anyone know how to fix this ?
Another problem is when i'm in a call and go to the home screen and want to go back to the call screen by pressing the status bar it turns of the screen. ??
Thank you

Does anyone know if it's possible to turn off the display while in a call? On my HTC Touch Pro I was able to just press the power button to achieve this - but on the Hero the power button is also the hang up button.
Any ideas?
Actually it's supposed to turn off automatically.
IMO the problem isn't turning the screen off during a call, it's turning it back on when needed.

I agree completely... Is an annoying issue that display go away on call because if you need something, ie keyboard or see call duration you need to do something for have it back.
Why not try this app, which you shake to wake the screen - not tired it myself but worth a go
Shake Awake
If the screen goes blank during a call you can simply press the menu button to wake up the screen again. Just tested that and it works fine.
Still, it would be nice to be able to turn it off when I want and not have to wait for it to time out to switch the display off.
You can also press the answer button to wake screen while in a call.
As to shake-it-to-wake-it, with the non-stick coating on the device I would probably be likely to launch it out of my hand !!! haha
Sprint Hero
I just picked up a Spring HTC Hero this weekend and am finding the same problem. When I place the phone up to my ear the screen does not shut off. However since the end button is also the same button used to turn off the screen, I'm in a catch 22.
For now I have to wait for the screen to time out. Turning the screen back on is not an issue as many have mentioned.

Occasionally when I go to unlock my phone with the home button, the torch turns on instead and the screen remains unresponsive. The torch stays on for as long as I hold the button down for, and after a period of responding like this for 10 or so seconds the home button does what it should do again. Using the side lock button gets it out of this most of the time. Any have any ideas why this might be happening ?
TIA
What it says on the topic
when screen is rotated, the multitask button turns the screen off
when i turn it on, the recent apps screen is shown

Hi,
Hoping someone can help.
I've got a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+.
Since yesterday I've noticed that the screen will randomly turn itself on if I turn it off at the lock screen manually.
For example, the phone is at the home screen - I press the on/off button - the screen stays off.
I press the on/off button (to check the time for example) and I'm presented with the lockscreen (no security) - I then press the on/off button again to turn it off - 1 second later the screen turns on, shows me my home page wallpaper then flicks to my locks reen then turns off.
And it will continue to do this unless I go to my home screen and turn it off from there.
Not sure HOW or WHY its doing this.
Haven't installed anything recently...
One thing I have noticed is that this will only happen if the lockscreen is set to SWIPE (No security) - It doesn't do this if I set a PIN for example.
And suggestions would be appreciated
Cheers people.

Hi, not sure if anyone else has had this issue.
It's only really been happening to me the last few mornings when I wake up.
My screen is blank, the top half (no clock showing) the bottom half shows the bottom half with the fingerprint and if I touch anything, it's just frozen.
My alarm has sounded while it's been like this, and it shows the slider to turn it off, but again won't actually slide when I try, so the alarm keeps sounding.
The only way i it responds normally is if I press the off button to turn the screen off, then press it again to turn it back on, and then it seems back to normal.
I can't think of anything I have installed recently that might be causing it?
Anyone got any ideas please?
Regards
James
Do you use goodlock and custom clocks on aod and lock screen?
I do use goodlock yeah, thinking about it, I did recently charge a setting for aod to wake up notifications. It's there a glitch with that do you know?
I have had my screen go black and wont respond to any presses. Then when pressing the powerbutton the screen shows the home and back button only but responds to nothing, except I can use the sidebar, click on calander for example and then it allows me to unlock. Did this a few times but has not done it again after a power off and on.
