hello! i m looking to buy a new phone for my mother, for her birthday and I decided to buy anxperia U or an galaxy ace2, but i m seriously considering xperia U for now! i would like to know from you guys how is the phone on ics? does it lag? is the battery any good? i will not hack the phone to install any rom or anything, because she will use it only for photos, calls, browsing, facebook and maybe viber calls when i m a broad!
let me know what should i buy!!
None of it, if you're not going to install custom ROM. Sony's ICS is slower than my turtle, and Ace 2 AFAIK isn't much faster (considering 800 vs 1000 mhz for U)

Sony xperia u with the ics firmware lags a lot on phonecalls, actually the main work a phone should do. It has a good battery life. On my xperia u I am facing problems with viber but I don't know if it's because of my settings to be honest. Facebook, browsing etc work fine.
Don't know much about Samsung mate.
If I were you I would take a look on Xperia p also if you can find it in a decent price. Here in Italy Sony xperia u and p have almost the same price now plus Xperia p is upgradable to jb and seems to fly.
If you decide to go for xperia u I suggest you to downgrade it to gb

so it would be the best choice to buy the xperia u and to upgrade to the rom that you are running (jb)? i i m familiar with rooting and flashing thanx to my previsions devices!!
so is the jb port any good? i want a 4.0 plus device!!

I think that the sola is one of the best bang for the buck you can get. Stock Sony fw is pretty good and if that's not enough, you can go for cm or miui.
When you buy it, check if unlock allowed =yes! That's important.

Congratulation, brov! Finally you move from Sony Ericsson phone to SONY phone:good:
I myself own Xperia P. If you dont care about JB update then go for Xperia sola. But I prefer P over sola.
Sent from LT22i via Tapatalk
Save up a bit more and get the P or something else.
I just sold my Sola. Barely got half the value I got for it even though it's a 6 months phone. The problem is that it is buggy as hell and needs CM9 to even function properly (Talking about notifications and calls here.) Check the forums, there's a particular bug where you have to wait like 10 seconds before you can accept a call.
The lack of support from Sony is also disappointing. ICS was released only late last year (Everyone has moved on to JB), and JB will never even come for this phone.
The floating touch was a good idea, but it was not... Useful. Looks cool as hell, and had so much potential, but it is more annoying than useful. It's tendency to be activated when you're charging means it's very difficult to type when your phone is being charged.
I just need a phone to function as a phone, and it can't even deliver that to me.
really appreciate yur comments guys..... me too love Xperia Sola but less RAM & no more updates, Sony really fumbled!!!

Both phones here have the same price.
I like the looks of both phones, my hands arent big. I like J big screen, im ok with 3.5 but what worries me that its 16:9 aspect ratio, wich means its longer and less wider then analog 3.5 inch screen size phones (iphone, galaxy ace).
J doesnt have such good camera as i see in reviews and only 1ghz CPU.
Despite the fact that U doesnt have mSD expansion slot, im ok with that, if i need more gbs i might just use OTG cable with usb stick.
So what is your suggestion?
maybe some of you already had expierience with both phones?
how is performance of both phones compared to each other? video playback? dvix video playback (with decoders installed)?
Go for Xperia j. At least the chip set has sufficient sources for devs to port the latest os. Users like me who are using Xperia p/u/go/sola are struggling to get a working jellybean from coz of poor support from the chipset maker St Ericsson. So if u care about having the latest os go for Xperia j but if u want a better camera and display and an extra core go for Xperia u

Check gsm arena user comments ... i've read that many users are complaining of lag after update to JB in case of xperia j.
Go for xperia j you will get official jellybean along with xloud bravia engine that won't present in custom jb roms...
Go for xperia U. Im using it and am loving it. First off its much better looking than J. The LED bar at the bottom really adds to its beauty. Also the specs of U are much better than that of J. You will have trouble running even slightly heavy applications and games on the J

J, just for Jelly Bean, anything is way smoother.
I'm thinking about buying xperia sola. I come from xperia 2011 community where 100's of ROM's are available. I want to know the dev support on this device. also info about jelly bean ( IS it available? if not, then any future possibilities?)

It might be ported once it gets released for Xperia P.

No. It's not enough, firstly it will fly, but after installing a bunch of apps it will start lagging bla bla bla, so go ahead and buy 1gb ram phone

i have used xperia sola for 5 moths (UL bootloader and root), imo this device is handle daily job (sms, call, whatsapp, etc) not so good. lag after you install too many program especially when someone call (need 2-3 seconds for the answer display appear), but overall (gaming, music, browsing) is good. and FYI 512 MB ram only accessible around 384 MB by the device, so don't expect it too much
If u don't care about having the latest software then its worth the buy. Because anything beyond 4.1 is uncertain.

FXP release cm9.1 rom at weekly pace, quite good dev support
But, I have lost faith in sony mobile cause my sola has random hang/reboot issue.
Still I'm not sure about the reason, maybe hadware/RAM/NAND, maybe carrier/SIM, maybe software.
It's a pretty good looking, and UI well designed, but I plan to buy a Lumia to replace it.
Just FYI.
The phone is nice.. not as bad as the above repliers. I used stock rom, eXperience v2, CM 9 based, and now Project GX v2.1. IMO The last one really stood out. I have installed many apps inlcluding Currents, Fb, Fb mssger, TOI, Pulse, Flipboard and half of them stay on my Homescreen. Still no lag. Much better roms will come out.
Otherwise there is always the HTC Desire X.
the incoming call will lag when you are playing games or surfing internet.
I faced this problem.
And i got a missed call cause the answer the call didn't show up and my phone ringing but i can't do anything... :/
others ok,this phone not bad.
if you want better go for Xperia P or Xperia L (latest)

My Sola runs daily tasks quite well. I even play heavy games like NFS MW and GTA VC.
First thing, this stock ROM is ****. The lag in Call and messaging app is because they are inefficient and bulky.
Use other ROMs, eXDialer, Junk cleaner script, and everything's going good.
I usually get 100 mb free Ram.
Ps. One thing. I always keep FB frozen when not using. In titanium backup
