Just curious, when I was researching which phone to buy I read some posts from other carrier forums that screens tend to break very easily from short distances or even in a pocket. Havent seen posts for VZ yet. Im very careful with this probably too careful

Haven't broken the screen but the frame of this phone is crap coming from Motorola. It's hit the ground twice from less than 3 feet and has 3 rather large dents in the housing. Once was falling off the seat in my car to a rubber all season floor mat which shouldn't do crap but left a dent. I'll give samsung the nod on internal hardware but the chassis is awful. A friend of mine dropped his from about waist high onto the edge and shattered his screen.

I have a pretty extensive history with Motorola and have come to the same conclusion. I had my phone on my bed and accidentally dropped my belt on the top right corner of the phone and it left a noticeable indention. I immediately went out and bought a case for the phone even though I've never worried about one with any previous phone.

if you afraid the screen would be broken, you should buy Nokia mobilephone. otherwise, you could buy a phone case to protect your mobilephone.

My phone feel maybe a foot, if that onto concrete and the screen cracked from the corner. The screen still works, the touch buttons still work. Just a crack. Luckily GeekSquad covers accidentals. I ended up getting a SlimArmor case form SpiGen. Did some small drop tests on my sidewalk. Seems to protect it pretty well.

Not really, I'm just a careful person, takes no extra effort at all. Nothing not worth preserving a $600 phone, anyway.
i got mine last Wednesday. love it...been super careful with it and was going to get a case yesterday on lunch...when i got to work i grabbed the phone from my console and went to get out of my truck and the phone bumped the steering wheel causing it to fly out of my hand and onto the pavement i pick it up and the outer glass is complete spider webbed and cracked all down it....sucks ....since i just got it Verizon hadn't activated my insurance or some BS so now im fighting with them to get it replaced...the insurance co don't want to do it...sigh...all else fells i found these outside case with the glass(no lcd) for 12 bucks on ebay.....:crying:

wow that looks like a good case
I carry my new phones around like they're a newborn child, won't put it in a pocket that has anything else in it or near the desk/nightstand edges. It's all about minimizing risks - like not trying to carry too many things at once.
With that being said, there's a 100% chance I'll drop this phone at some point. My GS3 survived a couple major drops with a few small dents in the corner .... as much as I like the look/feel of the GS4 a million times more than the GS3, I feel like the reduced bezel size and straight/rigid edges won't be as durable.
Get a case guys!

Not at all. Been 2 years since I've dropped one. It's a little weird but I get kind of attached to technology and take care of it. I'm the kind of person that doesn't want a single scratch on my phone and I hate cases so I just don't drop anything and nothing belongs in my right pocket but my phone

I just got a Spigen Neo Hybrid case. It's slim and sexy, but now I'm concerned it won't offer much protection for anything but the shortest falls. I'll have to check out this one.
I got mine on release day, and haven't dropped it once. I carried it for a few days with no case to enjoy the slim profile of the phone. Bought an Incipio case for it and seems to do the job. Of course like I said... haven't dropped it. I plan on picking up that Neo Hybrid as well, its gorgeous! :good::highfive:

It's my understanding if you are willing to pay you can return it. I know if you were on Verizon you could return the phone within the first month and then "repurchase" the exact same device.
On a side note, there has to be something horribly wrong with Gorilla Glass 2. I foresee a recall coming...

Do you have any evidence of that? From the video's and articles I read about the s3 and gorilla glass (2) there is nothing wrong with it. The new design of the S3 (thin bezzle) makes is more "fragile" but also smaller, lighter and more usable in one hand.
So rather get a bumper / case (like many iPhone users have been forced to do)...
I have just been following this site and several others in my spare time and it seems like a lot of breakage for GG2. Considering the stuff is supposed to be stronger than its predecessor, it doesn't seem to be handling the abuse (or most cases lack there of) too well.

Wow that sucks! But definitely looks like it fell. I dont think its just gorilla glass 2 tho, the build of this device is just not as solid as the s2. Cracked screen issue
I purchased S3 for myself and have had it for 2 weeks with no issues. My wife saw the phone and said she wanted one as well. So, I ordered it. We received it, charged it, and then activated the phone. She put it back on the charger before she went to bed. Got up in the morning put it in her padded phone pouch in her purse and ran to the store. She went to call me from the store and noticed a crack in the screen from the earpiece to volume button on the phone. She said she did not drop or bang it on anything. Needless to say she returned the phone no questions asked by AT&T and bought the iPhone 4S instead because she did not want to have to worry about the screen breaking for no apparent reason. The one thing I did notice on her S3 was where the screen meets the case. There seemed to be a glass grit or dust in the crack around 2/3 rds of the perimeter screen. My S3 did not have that.
I am usually very good about handling my phone and keeping it safe since I keep it naked. But last night as I am coming in from outside, my DNA slips out of my pocket and I hear it hit the ground. I had a brief moment where I thought the phone would be OK, that lasted until I saw the the phone landed screen down!!
I picked it up and can already feel the screen was shattered before turning it over.
It looks like I was angry at it and took a hammer to it.
But good news is I purchased the phone with my AMEX :good: so they will credit back the amount of the phone and I just have to pay my insurance deductible with Verizon to get a new one.
AMEX
I love AMEX. I paid for my DNA the same way. I have dropped mine as well, but only a small chip up by the speaker. I Have put an OtterBox Commuter on is since, and I can't even see the chip anymore.
Cheers!

Yes, for the first 90 days from purchase, if you accidentally damage the item or have your item stolen or lost; you can file a claim to have your $$ reimbursed in the form of a statement credit.
I dropped my phone about 1 ft onto the asphalt road, getting out of my mazda miata, with the phone on my lap. Landed upside down. Phone was naked. Screen was shattered.
I paid the $100 deductible w/ Asurion, and have kept the phone in a TPU case since then.
I LOVE the way the phone feels without a case, and the glass that goes all the way to the edge of the phone, with its bevel. But, unfortunately, that makes the phone highly susceptible to shattering with a fall
Dropped mine getting out of the car too within 2 days of buying it... Got a brand new one from Asurion though so i'm not too mad
Every time I ride my Ducati I tell myself that everybody on the road is trying to take me out.
And I never stop telling myself that while I'm on the bike.
Every time I reach for my phone I tell myself that I am going to drop it at any minute.
And I never stop telling myself that the entire time the phone is in my hand.
It's safer....and less expensive that way.

Indeed, mine progressed today to the point the screen does not register any input. I can't wait for my replacement to arrive, my old 3GS is exceptionally painful to use.
I've a chip in the plastic next to the volume rocker, and a small split where the glass casing and sides meet. Fixed by cheap case.

Agree with the others here. The phone is just too damn slick to put a case on, for me at least. I love a naked phone and will take the chance. However I try to be extremely concious and careful when taking it in and out of my pocket. If its not in there then its on my desk nice and flat nowhere near an edge lol.
I'm not gonna push my luck though. Glass back and glass front? I feel like if it hit the ground in any way shape or form its gonna break. Super slick phone but super delicate. However I wouldnt have it any other way.

I don't consider this good advice. My phone slipped out of my jacket pocket as I was taking it off and it hit the ground with a bottom corner which sent an arched crack up the bottom portion of my phone in the glass. It's not shattered or falling out of the phone, but it's still fragile.

Well some of you probably waiting for this.
To keep it short:
Back drop - OK
Side drop - Fatal
Probably due to thin bezel, but we all know the risk when we brought this phone right?
yeah, looks like that thin bezel doesn't fare well on accidental drops..
thats why i ordered my Spigen Slim Armor for good reason..
Pretty much any phone will shatter the display if it lands on the side or bottom, most if not all phone are edge to edge glass these days which doesn't help.
Hmm think it does fairly poorly. Note 3 only cracked on direct drop, not from corner hit.
Also it stops working early. This is definitely not a rugged phone.

This is totally random. 100%. And these phones aren't made to be dropped from those heights either. If you are an bad user, you buy something thats made to take a few hits. Not phones like these, these should be used with care, not childish or stupid actions.

There is nothing scientific to it people. Even with all the camera angles you guys mentioned. Someone will still cry foul when it doesn't fall exactly right.
This phone looks fragile enough for it to be believed that it will break on the first fall.

Almost any phone if it hits just right will shatter. Its all about force. Hitting it on the corner or a small area will produce more force as its not distributed, like laying on a bed of nails as opposed to stepping on a single nail. These are all glass screens, gorilla or not. Never seen a phone that I cant find one drop test where the screen doesnt have some damage...so lets see what flexible "non-glass" displays can do...

These are all glass screens, gorilla or not. Never seen a phone that I cant find one drop test where the screen doesnt have some damage...so lets see what flexible "non-glass" displays can do...

If you consider life an extended drop test, my RAZR has survived amazingly well. To be honest, I don't know how the screen hasn't been broken. I remember when I first got it, I was afraid it would break easily from flexing because it was so thin. It never did. I even started throwing it 10 ft. in the air and letting it land on concrete and asphalt just so I could rub it into my friend's faces that used iPhones. lol, I'm such a jerk.

Pretty much any phone will shatter the display if it lands on the side or bottom, most if not all phone are edge to edge glass these days which doesn't help.

I gotta say my original Droid Razr seems to be indestructible. Dropped it many times and it only suffered minor scuffs.
I dropped my LG G2 today, I was trying to put it in my coat pocket and missed, so it fell on the floor from waist height and the quick view case came off but no scratch or crack to be found!
Lucky this time...
So, I've been reading all the news on the 6P---cracking glass, "flexible" backs, easy scratches. I normally carry my phones in my back pocket and never intend sitting with it there. However, I'm sure there have been a few occasions when I've sat and very quickly notice it's there and removed it. Well, tonight I was admiring my little graphite and noticed what appeared to be a very slight bend. I couldn't believe it---thought it was an optical illusion so I set it down on my desk and then saw it. My phone no longer was flat against the desk top. A very slight wobble had developed.
WTF.
I've had soooo many phones and never had this happen before. I had the Nexus 6 and still have the iphone 6s Plus. So, I'm not stranger to big phones. I haven't treated this phone any differently. Every phone has been in a case too. Currently, I'm using a ringke case on my 6P. I guess I'll keep it and just baby the **** out of it. I was able to gently bend it back, but now I'm concerned all the news is true. Cheap chinese crap.
This isn't a flagship phone at all. mod edit

I think there's a lesson to be learned here.
After seeing the bend thread I tried my iPhone 6 + and my Nexus 6, the former I've had since only March and don't use as my daily driver, both phones when flat on the table will wobble when you press them, in fact the iphone is actually noticeably bent. I think slight bends have been happening for years we just haven't noticed them.

I agree with you on "slight bends have been happening for years we just haven't noticed" Just checked on my iPhone6+ and yeah it doesn't sit flat on may table (check the table and the table is flat). I have never put it in my back pocket, but I'm pretty sure the constant pressure from being in a back pocket would speed up the "bending" process even more so if the pants are tight.
confirmation bias like crazy lol
Aluminum is soft and sitting on phones is a stupid thing to do. Lesson of the story kids back pockets aren't meant for phones.

Yeah they're meant for putting your keys in and forgetting they're there when you sit down! [emoji16]

never really understood why people put phones in the back pocket...
Isnt it easier for people to steal it, sitting on it, etc...
Who are these people using back pockets for phones? The only thing I put in my back pocket is a piece of paper or card now and then.

I've had my 6P for 15 days now, in that time I've dropped it (2.5'ish on to hard wood flooring), semi sat on it on the sofa and I regularly carry it in my jeans back pocket. My phone is not bent, I guess I'm lucky.

Please don't whine when it bends because you kept it in yhe back pocket
Nothing bending here either, have had one drop onto a tile floor from about 3 ft with no ill effects.
Noticed same thing as OP but I never put my phone into my back pocket. Front only. Anyway mine was slightly bent but when pushed opposite way its straight again lol
Hhahah
No point complaining really. That's the way it is. Hopefully it will not affect it any further

Wow, just been to carphone warehouse and had a look at a demo unit, and give it a gentle flex when nobody was looking, and it "went" around the buttons just like everyone else's, so not impressed now, gorgeous looking phone, but I have a 4 year old, and she would ruin that phone. Just to be fair I also had a good go at trying to bend my Note 3, and it didn't budge. I'm shocked the 6p was so soft! Wish LG would hurry up and release the v10 in the UK so I can have a go at that one too.
So you're trolling.... Got it

That demo unit has probably had every person, including strong people, trying to bend it now that there a tool posting FUD videos. I wouldn't trust it. Mine is extremely solid, can't budge it with modest effort. Obviously I'm not going to try with all my strength, that would be idiotic.

Not trolling at all, my contract is up, and I'm being careful in my decision, I've been reading this and a few other xda forums for a while, and this was the first opportunity I've had to "try" it myself.
Sorry, should have kept my thoughts to myself, good luck with your phone.

Yup, with the additional length of this phone, even in deep front pockets, I've caught myself having to stop when sitting to readjust as the phone catches a bit on my hip. Pulled out the phone several times to notice it looks slightly tweaked. Laying down on the table it rocks. Push just ever so slightly on the two corners that wobble and it straightens out.
It's clearly got some flexing but if it's not a permanent bend, nor impacts the functionality of the phone, what's the big deal? Just tweak it if it bothers you.
