Hello,
I have Sola for 6 months by now and it was a hell of a phone till i decided to upgrade to ICS. After that, my performance decreased signifcantly and I can't even do simple tasks. Tasks which a low end phone can do, even better then mine, such as the simple Galaxy Y S5360. And, yes, i get pissed when I look this phone behaving better then mine.
I tried to downgrade to GB, to upgrade to ICS, install a custom ROM of ICS and etc. Lately i tried Munjeni JellyBean, and after that, eXperience Innovation ROM. All of them have a good performance, but still, they do poorly then the Galaxy Y.
I miss my performance and i want to ask you guys, how the hell can i have my phone acting like a real dual-core phone?
Hope you guys can help me
Thanks

The jb roms are not really stable yet. You can try experience v2 rom which is ics based rom and then if you have an unlocked bootloader u can change kernels or even oc ur device. And also what di you mean by slower?
Sent from my MT27i
I mean that i can't even multitask with dolphin browser and some other app without having major slowliness in the phone. Or anything that my phone can possibly do (by his specs) and is not being able to do it. I have to uninstall Facebook app and Messenger app cause they crap the hell out of my phone.
Won't the GB experience would be faster/more efficient? Can't you guys reccomend me any "THE ****" rom for Sola? I mean...a kernel and a rom that can really bring me the experience of having a good phone (again).
Thanks

Ohh well yeah i think this rom was not really meant for multitasking though but i think this rom is better than the stock ics http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2162832
How about you try that out too? And also i suggest the speedy kernel just search it and youll see that kernel. Good day

i am using jb with my own tweaks and mods
and my phone is flying i don't have any kind of lag at all
i will release my tweaks soon
and the rom when i get enough time
Thank you all for your answers.
I'm installing Speedy Sola v5.5 now and eXperience™ v2...I will report in a few hours.
I've tried to install the kernel via CWM and my phone got stuck on the boot screen.
Tried with 2 SpeedySola kernels already (ICS and JB) and they do not work.
Just reporting.

Wait there is a kernel for the experience v2 included i the zip u fastboot that first and then u copy the kernel in sd then flash it via recovery. Or if you already do that try wiping data. Hope that helps

I ****ed up.
I was randomly installing kernels (dumb attitude) until my phone just can't run CWM anymore. Nor being at flashmode or fastboot @usb connection.
What the heck can i do?

Ohh I think u really be careful with kernels but try pressing power plus vol up button until it vibrates 3 times then try fastbooting again. Or try flashing stock ics again and start there

I managed to flash the ICS stock from somewhere and it is kinda flying right now.
But i have a little feeling inside of me telling me that it will suck soon...so, i'm gonna give a chance to eXperience then.
Thanks and see ya

Root it and debloat it asap. It would fly on and won't get back to Earth then, I bet.
Back up always before doing stuff
Before even thinking about installing new roms, kernels, mods, tweaks.. anything be sure that you've backed up using recovery and have saved it not only on your phone but your pc also.. that way if anything f***s up, all you need to do is restore and your saved.
Okay, i need your guys help again.
My phone did great till now, but its kinda slow already. So, i want to upgrade the kernel/rom/whatever to make it fly again. Would you guys recommend me some updates?
I was thinking of "eXperience Innovation" or maybe "Ultimate Rom V11". Those roms will make my phone better? As i said previously, I just need my phone behaving like a dual-core powerful phone as it is.
Thanks :cyclops:
Install cm9 or cm10.1. best roms for our phones, hands down
I suggest that you must try project xvr rom, its more stable and really smooth, no problem with multitasking, etc.

Hi,
I bought my GS2 less than a week ago, and I'm really disappointed with it!
I rooted and installed custom rom and kernel the day I got it, and since then I've witnessed literally tens of fatal bugs that cause dirty shutdown(Usually I need to remove the battery). Also, apps force close too often. And on top of that I find my device very slow!
I had SE Arc S before GS2. I wanted S2 because I wanted better performance. I didn't get the performance, my Arc was way faster, even despite the two times lower benchmark scores. I'm using Apex Launcher, and every time I scroll the screen, I can clearly see the wallpaper "flashing", seems like it's too "heavy" for a dual-core CPU and probably for the best mobile GPU! Also, when I open a folder, it lags notably!
I have tested about ten different roms, including AOKP(RR & Foxhound), Samsung stock(Omega & Wanam) and MIUI(RGUI and some other which's name I don't remember). Also kernels like Sayah & NEAK. So far, I haven't got a stable nor a fast experience!
I know this isn't the S2 that is known for its performance and quality, this is something different! What could possibly be the cause of my problem? Games run well, but despite that, my phone is slower than a Sony Ericsson(single core & Adreno)!
Please help me, I know S2 can do better!
Mayby you installed a buggy and slow rom and kernel? Flash CM7 or a stock rom and you will be surprised
Edit:
I see that you already tried other roms, go back to the shop you bought it, mayby they can help you...

Your experience is different to 90% of people who post here.
There are no shortcuts to having a phone setup/running the way you want to.
I emphasised that last bit because anyone who offers you anything but the most generic advice will be telling you what works for them, with the way they use the phone & the way they have it set up. If you follow said advice, chances are you won't end up with the results you're looking for.
My advice is to either persevere & keep tinkering with the phone (if you're not a person who likes to do this kind of thing, you're probably in the wrong place), or sell it & get something else.
You're obviously looking for shortcuts/quick fixes, and I'm telling you there aren't any.
Try Ollo Rom, def the best and most stable from IMO

hi
this is very interesting. its some time i don't respond to posts. i am no guru to galaxy s2 but i think the phone is ok. first install stock rom to see if the phone is ok. i mean is charging ok and has no hardware problems. maybe its something hardware and u can take it back to the service and for that u need stock. i think u rushed a little custom roms install. if device is ok then flash a custom kernel like cf root or speedmod kernel to have root and use titanium backup to freeze some bloatware. install apex launcher and see if u get lag. use an app like 2nd core to see if your cpu is working with 2 cores and has hotplug ok. and cpu spy for deep sleep issues. then install battery monitor widget from 3c to see the heating from battery. it should stay between 25 and 41 celsius. then if is ok install a custom rom. i tested wanam, vk and now neatromlite. best satisfaction was with 2.3.6 la4 rom from gb by krinyo but that was in gb.
I recommend Resurrection Remix 2.3

I'm not usually "question asker" persons, I tend to solve my problems myself. But as said, this problem is very absurd since this phone is a true high end. I'm on Cyanogen9, a rom that I've had really good memories(well CM7 anyway)and I'm finding this little bit faster. This isn't a solution anyway, just avoiding the problem. I'm gonna try to go back to completely stock and customize it again.
Thanks for answers, really appreciate.
Ps. I'm don't fancy going back to Gingerbread

Try resurrection 2.4 or rootbox. They are the best roms for the s2, in my opinion. You shouldn't be disappointed.

That's a really good idea.
Go back to an ICS stock rom you know works fairly well, and go from there. Root the phone first, do a Nandroid backup before you make any other changes/flash any custom roms so you have a backup of a good setup as close as possible to stock (just with a rooted kernel).
Then you can try some roms out, maybe try out a couple of kernels. Best way to approach it is not to make too many changes at once I.E if you flash a rom, try it out for a bit with the supplied kernel before you start trying other kernels with it.
BetterBatteryStats (search for it on here/Google Play) can be invaluable so far as pinning down & eliminating any apps/processes that are causing unwanted battery drain. Also, give benchmarks too much of your time. They're not even close to an approximation of real world use of the phone.
And the other best bit of advice I can give you is read. A lot. Then read some more. Then keep reading till your eyes fall out. Particularly read anything you can get your hands on relating to the particular rom/kernel you're wanting to try out. Read the whole thread (even if it's 100's of pages). That's how you pick up little tricks/knowledge, by reading & then trying stuff out.
Edit - Also, the moment you root your phone & before you do anything else, get Hellcat's kTool from Google Play & backup your EFS. Keep a copy on your external SD card in the phone if you have one, and definitely keep a copy on your PC (and on an external drive or CD/DVD if you're really paranoid). You'd be surprised how many people we get on here with borked EFS/no IMEI & most (90%) don't have a backup.

I had something similar happen to me. I wanted to cry. But try this first (nobody likes hearing a grown man crying).
1- Restore your nandroid backup to get back to stock (you did do a nandroid back... Did you?)
2- Flash a STOCK ICS Rom. Any will do. As long as it's stock.
3- Proceed to flash any custom ICS rom of your choice
4- Flash any kernel of your choice
5- Enjoy
Thing is, some custom roms don't play nicely when you upgrade from gingerbread to ICS directly. Doing the above mentioned should do the trick.

After reading trough bunch of posts in Neo section i just felt the urge to write this.
Srsly ppls, whats all the fuss about ICS on neo?
I dont get some ppls here, Sony gave u ICS choice.
If they dident give you ICS, you wld complain "Y U NO GIVE US ICS!!"
So they give it,and you are like "Y U NO MAKE ICS RUN AWESOME ON MEH NEO?!"
Eh? get my point?
Nao "was" awesome phone in GB times. It runs ICS decent, if u know how to make it run decent. its still an ok mid class phone!
Why dont we all accept Neo as it is? :good:
Cheers.
Have to agree with you that there are a lot of people whining on XDA and Sony forums. The problem is that most users don't know how to get the most out of their phone, like rooting unlocking bootloaders etc.
Sony did a decent job, at least they pushed out ICS, unlike Galaxy Ace and W(urgh) Gaming is however quite bad on ICS, which is why I am back on GB.
An ICS guide can be found in my sig. It's been gathering dust lately...
I've managed to somewise speed up mine stock Neo ICS by manually removing bloatware with RootExplorer and with AutoKiller Memory Optimizer
I´ve tried the stock ics rom but just doesnt deliver... i just got an hybrid rom, and i´m thinking about give it a chance to cyanogen...overall its ok... i´m not going back to gb so soon...
I don't have unlocked bootloader so I can't install custom rom but however I'm satisfied with this solution atm
Did you unlocked your bootloader?

Hello Guys!
I am a little sick of all these custom roms that claim to be stable but have memory leaks and what not. rebooting my phone every day because my ram is getting low and I cant run navigation + spotify is a little bit too G1 for my taste. I didn't get THE top of the notch phone to have to decide wether to listen to music or get where i want in my car because the ram is too low.
So I wanna go back to kinda-stock but still keep root because it's needed for LBE privacy guard, my most beloved app to keep those private information suckkers away from my stuff.
I wanted to unroot, go back to stock and then root again, but for some reason Odin doesn't recognize my phone. Yes, drivers are installed but it just doesn't find it. might be a problem with win8+64bit or whatever, point is Odin ain't on the table anymore.
Now i figured, just get a custom rom that is based on the stock-rom but keeps my root. However all the devs are so trying to get JB to the ppl that there are barely any good solid roms left with "just" ICS. No offense, i love all the work the devs put in there to get JB running without the neccessary codework form samsung but it's nothing for me anymore. I wanna have a phone to do my everyday bidding with and if i feel like messing around with custom stuff I'll get my dev phone out of the drawer again.
So point of the story is, has anyone a rom in mind, that is based on stock + root and close to no changes after that? Would be greatly appreciated!

How does this happen anyways, i mean why would there be a leak even with the stock based roms? is there a leak even with the stock one? because i never notices these behaviors before i switched to jelly bean. You're a dev so you probably know more than i am. all i do is mobile business app dev with js&html5, so i am not that deep into android and what makes it work the way it does.

This memory leak is mainly caused by the kies Applications that is running in the background on the phone. I have got a part of my flashing process that moves this process to another location therefore preventing it from starting and this has resolved the problems or mostly resolved the problems.
If i was you i would give my rom a try and see what you think

Not true at all, the memory leak is only present in aosp based ROMs, NOT stock Sammy ROMs.
That kiesexe or whatever in system/bin/ is not causing memory leaks, it is just using some ram, not using it all up such as a memory leak is described.
@OP stock sammy ROMs are just fine, even the latest JB leak is great, XXDLI5, I've been using it as a daily driver since it came out and I have no problems.
Use mobile Odin to flash whatever firmware you want, it will even keep your root.

Description.
Sammy base, stable, Jelly bean, no lagg to date.
I have got ca. 350 apps from Google Play, and yet another ca. 200 system, they all work as if they were stock, no lagg, no great loading times, works brilliant (Except for Facebook, but that's a known problem...)
Give it a shot, you'll like it, if you want stock!
Hi,
So my old man has an S2, and while he loves it, having seen my Nexus 4, he fancies a bit of the Jelly Bean loveliness. Anyway, we tried to load the trusty Samsung Kies and do it the official route, only for it to hang forever on 'Connecting' (quality software Samsung :good: ). Now I've downloaded the official Samsung Jelly Bean ROM, I figured I'd stray on here first before jumping the gun.
Considering the guy using the phone is going to be an old geezer, not totally useless with phones but he isn't exactly that sharp with them either, would it be wise to stick with a stock ROM? Obviously the stock ROM can be rooted (he does have his GB rooted) so we can still access a number of the apps he uses but how are custom ROMs fairing with regards to battery life, and performance. I noticed a considerable drop in battery life when using Jelly Bean on my old i9000 but a large improvement in performance. How is it for the i9100?
I'm not asking for a ***** fight, I just want simple answers.
Stock vs Custom?
Battery better or worse?
Performance?
Yep thanks
i am going to answer your questions.
the rom doesnt make the battery life. kernel does. if you change your kernel battery life will be better. i say to try again but this time use a different kernel.
performance is better on custom roms, at least my opinion.
He's right.
Now, your dad wants stock JB, trust me.
I'm sure he's gonna use the device for calls, mail, browsing, camera and that's about it, he'll get 2 days of battery. If he gets less and start *****ing, flash a custom kernel and that's that.

Yeah he isn't much of a hacker. He does really use for calls, texting, email, browsing and camera, and not much else apart from the standard apps such as sports scores. He's not quite as keen as I was on an S1 when I was hacking everything and anything possible and tweaking the **** out of it lol!
OK, we'll give the latest version a pop, Italian XWLSD. We'll get that on, root it, then if necessary I'll flash a UK modem (not that Italian modems are much different I imagine, it isn't that far away).
Flash nordic.

Straight to JB.
No pit files involved, just the single LSD file.

OK, having seen the Multi-Window he fancies a bit of that lol!!! Yep, I know, I know, so I'm going to give him a custom ROM, with that feature, see what he says, and then if needbe, I can always flash back to stock.
Anyway, fancy recommending a good custom ROM with decent battery life and the multi-window mod?
I've been looking at RainBox, (elsewhere doesn't have a thread here for some reason) but also NeatROM has it and I'm quite impressed with that.
Unless it's possible to put the Multi-Window mod on XWLSD stock? Which would be good too, so if so, let me know
You should try AllienceRom.It has multiwindow and great battery life for me

Yeah. I'm either going to try Alliance or Neat. Maybe both lol. I'm trying to explain that once you've flashed one, it's very easy to flash another and there's no reason you can't switch between the two until you like one lol. Hitting a brick wall right now though

haha true , you need to test the roms before you pick one ... but having a stable kernel is more important :silly:
Of course, the current kernel has some cool battery profiles which would be great in this new kernel. I've never been one to go for the massive performance thing, you gain about 0.1ms of time on apps loading, but by having a good battery kernel, you can save a lot of battery lol
Hello great forum,
Maybe a stupid question but what would be a really good rom for battery life and gps usage for my note 1 (Bell Canada) ?
The question I'm worried about is that I don't want to flash my phone with a rom that would turn it into a phone for US or others and just want to make sure it would work on Bell Canada without problems for the modem file and all ...
Thanks for your suggestions ...
PS: I even thought about a ROM that would be for ICS if need be ...I just want to be able to play Ingress without having 20% battery loss after 45 min
Thanks !
Idk about the ROMs, but you'll never get away from the ingress battery drain no matter what you do. That game is a juice hog. When I was a heavy ingress player, I would carry 4 extra batteries with me to get through the day. I would try carbon or hellfire, they are my current favs. Just make a backup and flash, see how it goes.

Unless BJ flashes a modem, I can't think of a single ROM that is going to flash over your current modem. Which means a simple backup will undo anything.

Thanks, so in other words, any roms I try for the Note 1 would have me being able to use Bell as a carrier no problem and use the modem I have already ?
I was just not sure which one to use as there are soooo many .... Asylum, Blackstar, CM9 etc ....
Priorities for me will always be to use what a stock could use, stability, battery efficiency and GPS working well ...
As backup goes ... Kies or Titanium to backup ? my note is not rooted ....
Thanks again
Yes, and no. Is your phone going to break? No. Are you going to enjoy any ROM, even those that are deemed solid, Not necessarily.
I only know about running T-mobile on an i717, but different modems get you very different strengths and data speeds. There's also the oddity of running ICS modems on (stock) jelly bean ROMs causes crazy weird lag spikes.
What I'm saying is, backup what you use. Try different stuff. If it doesn't work, or you don't like it, restore. Also, if you're currently on ICS, sticking to ICS based roms (blackstar or cm9) is going to yield a better chance at it "just working" than switching to a JB build. If you upgraded to stock jelly bean (I'm so sorry) sticking with JB ROMs is going to give you a better chance at your modem working without issue.

I hear ya my friend .. but surely i could find something better than 20% gone in 20 minute ... and I did not try Carbon or Hellfire so far but they are good ? and what about the others like Asylum, CM9, Blackstar and the such ?
Someone knows as well if 4.2.2 rom is better for the battery than 4.1 ? for JB ?
Thanks again

If you want stability, speed, and battery, always choose ICS. Period. People in these forums regularly confuse newer must mean better. In the case of our aging hardware, its completely false and they are more wrapped up with having the latest at all cost.

Cool thanks, in that case I will go with trying JB sandwich, feel of JB but on ICS ... will see what it does
The only problem now is that I am trying to find the right files to have before I flash the ROM as when I try to go with CWM and flash JB sandwich or AOKP I get errors while trying to flash ... either status 7, status 0 or just errors of files ...

Quick update ... it seems that it is all related to what radio (modem) file I had and such before to flash the rom
Was able to install JB sandwich after i tried to flash with an ICS for ATT (even if i use Bell Canada)
AS "best" is a subjective term and up to the individual, and usually best rom thread become places for arguments, this thread is closed.
