I bought the phone over the mexican equivalent of ebay, it came with 4.0.2.A.0.58 firmware which is android 2.4.3, once i connected to wifi the phone prompted me with an OTA update to 4.0.2.A.0.62, i accepted it and when it finished the download and rebooted it never came on, i tried removing the battery, holding the button for a long time but nothing worked, after some reading i downloaded the SEUS tool, it detected the phone fine and downloaded a 230mb file which i assume was the latest FW, it said that the installation was sucessful and that i should turn on my phone, again it didn't turn on, it vibrates but the screen never comes on, after giving up on SEUS i read about flashtools, i downloaded the previous firmware that i had which was 4.0.2.A.0.58, the one that was working fine before the OTA, file name is
SK17i_4.0.2.A.0.58_GLOBAL.tft
I start flashtools and select the firmware, phone is detected fine but the flashing gets stuck at
Processing system.sin

Flashing data
i left it running for 30 mins and it didn't move from there, the person that sold it to me says the phone is new and says that it is my fault that the phone doesn't work anymore because according to him he asked in an email not to update the phone or the warranty was void with him, i live in mexico so there's not a sony center i can go for help, i really want to fix the phone, was pretty excited about getting it and now it wont turn on
what can i do next?

Well there must be a problem with the phone already.
Or else why would the seller say "not to upgrade"?
Flashtool was the only option that i would have recommended.
But you say it didnt work.
Are you sure you put the phone in flash mode?
---------- Post added at 09:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:21 AM ----------
And by the way, it takes time for the phone to turn on after an update.
Leave it for a while and see if it opens or not.

Have you asked the person from whom you bought the phone whether the bootloader of the phone is locked or unlocked?
I ask this because the people with unlocked bootloader are advised not to accept ota updates as it will brick their devices.

6. Turning the "brick" into a smartphone
If you had unlocked bootloader and did OTA(Over the Air) update, then you probably ended up with a dead phone, aka brick. Don't worry, it is not completely bricked, still can be saved!
Download UnbrickingXperia2011.zip file from this post below.
Unpack the .zip file and place the .ftf file in Flashtool\firmwares folder.
Open Flashtool.
Get your phone to flashmode, make sure it is turned off, press down Volume DOWN button and connect USB cable.
In Flashtool, click the lightning button, pick Flashmode and choose the Xperia_2011_FreeXperia_ALL.ftf file.
Let Flashtool finish.
Install stock firmware and kernel to your phone.
Remove USB cable from your phone and start your phone.
Try not to brick it again, less problems for you.

So, you've broken a rom and xRecovery wont start? Given up... dont!
I suppose it has pretty much every other use case.
Without futherado heres the guide:
All you need to do is in 7 easy steps.
What you Need:
Flashtool 0.2.5
A Stock Rom FTF file (for now)
If you are not sure download the GENERIC version for your device.
1: Unzip Flashtool to your desktop
2: Place ftf rom file in %desktop%/FlashTool/firmwares
3: Run FlashTool.exe, Click the Flash button and select the Firmware you downloaded.

SEUS won't work if you rooted your x10. SEUS tells you that there isnt any firmware for your phone. So this way if you rooted and used a custom rom you will get it to work again.

It does, but as we're not yet flashing bootloaders the chance of it literally happening is next to none, so it's more of a "soft brick" right now because we're able to unbrick quite easily by using SEUS or the flashtools.
Lets just say if your phone is bricked it can't be unbricked... Usually happens when flashing a new radio. On the x10 it is impossible so I don't know why people keep using the term
Well if we are not unbricking, what are we doing, what is the term of doing this?
What a rubbish to say you can't use SEUS when you are rooted. I did it at least ten times without any problem. The easiest way there is. Just plugin... Wait.... Done...

Brick - When used in reference to consumer electronics, "brick" describes a device that cannot function in any capacity (such as a device with damaged firmware). ...

Anyway, when xrecovery stopped working and SEUS didnt work either, this was the only choice for me.
Hey, I have a problem. Now my phone do not want to charge, every time I am trying to charge it, the only thing that happens - led is blinking with red color every 3-5 seconds. Nothing else. The battery is OK, it is tested.
Same than I connect it with PC.
So I can not connect phone in the flash mode, because it does not led with GREEN but only with RED
Any ideas how to save my X10i?
[SOLVED]
I have messed up my phone last night for following some instructions on how to root my x10 but it was actually for 1.6 firmware and i did it on my 2.1-update1 firmware. Right after that, my phone just started to vibrate when i turned it on. The screen turns black and it vibrates non stop. After downloading so many ROMS file to flash, the vibration stops but the screen is still black! It also flickers every 2-3 seconds but not very noticeable. Currently downloading a ROM to downgrade it to version 1.6. Will update you all soon. By that time, please post any recommendation.
But, I can't see a ftf file, only .zip and .rar files. Is there a way to compile them or something, or is it just right? Btw, i flashed the files, and now my screen goes black and strats vibrating too... Anyone a solution?
Hey i tried this method and at step 3 when i go onto x10flashtool the firmware i put in the folder does not come up. Please help, for some reason the firmware wont come up so i cant choose it.
Hi everyone this is my first post. I have serious trouble. I bought a X10i few days back it was slow, I upgraded it using PCC. I was working fine but than i give it to my bro, it again slowed down and used to stuck so he restored it but dont know what happened it didnt complete. Now when i push the power button it vibrates and green light blinks but no response the screen remains black . I have no idea wat firmware it have and wat baseband it have. I used the flash tool 0.3.0, 0.2.9, 0.2.8 when i flash the firmware 2.1.A.045 global GGL, 3.0.1G.0.75 global ggl, 2.3_aro it goes into flash mode but at one stage or another it gives an error messsage "ABORT FLASHING" and somthing about turning on the debugging mode. I also used PCC and SEUS but it aborts in during installation, I than tried flash tool 0.2.5 and it flashed the X10i and give me message of flashing complete i did it with the firmware mentioned above but again. When i turn on the phone it just vibrates and green light blinks and nothing else even for two hours .

Check the firmware or flash tool thread here or in the development forum.
I tried that too same result . What kind of forum is this no gurus or experts here who can give an expert advice or suggestion. Too much disappionted
only another "amateur" suggestion i'm afraid.
1) pull out battery (leave for 30 secs)
2) replace battery/DO NOT turn on
3) download a fresh install of SEUS.
4) run SEUS and follow instructions, complete as instructed.
5a) turn on phone, if fixed - yipee,
5b) if not - plug into usb and see if device shows in "computer"
6) (if 5b=yes) you know the phone is at least "contactable". good place to start for further troubleshooting.
7) post your results and be patient my friend, xda (x10) is currently up to its knees in new toys (unlocked bootloader) so people might take a moment to answer you.
hit thanks if i helped, seems my count is low no idea why, i think i'm helpful
Again I installed the fresh SEUS and did as instructed and no luck same result. It completely downloads the firmware but when it comes to installing the firmware its aborts. When i connect X10i to the pc it detects it as "SMEC Flash device" in device manager.
Further instruction needed

hi guys dis s d tutorial for flashing d stock firmware on a dead or bricked x10 mini.....
NOTE: THIS PROCESS WILL RELOCK UR BOOTLOADER AND ROOT WILL BE GONE
Step 1: Download Sony Ericsson update service software (SEUS) http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/supp...ro?cc=gb&lc=en
Step 2: Install it and open it
Step 3: Now do a hot reboot on the device by pressing and holding both the menu and power keys at the same time
Step 4: Without wasting even a single second press and hold the back button and connect your USB cable while holding Back
Step 5: Do not release the back key until the SEUS identifies your device. When it identifies your device, the update option will appear on your screen.
(It may say that you have a latest firmware already, but you click repair anyway and after the operation starts, You may release your back key.
Step 6: Wait until the update process gets finished and reboot your device now you will have a stock firmware with locked bootloader
feel free to hit thanks if this helped you..

thanx for the opinion will repost it soon
You are wrong, restore a firmware does not restore the lock of the bootloader. Your bootloader keeps unlocked always (you need s1tool to relock)

The phone at least has to be able to boot in flash mode. If it's "more bricked than that" it shouldn't work...
Missing "REPAIR" option in SE Update Service
SE Update Service ver.: 2.12.5.57 (last)
Kernel: nAa kernel
ROM: MiniCM7
There is no "REPAIR" option (see attachment).
It was in older version only? Who knows?
Or does anyone know another way to get back to stock ROM and kernel from the kernel and naa MiniCM7 ROM?
I claim my phone. So I need the original state.
THNX a LOT!
The repair option in PC Companion is a bit hidden, mine is in dutch but i try to show you the steps you have to take.
See screenshot 1, support zone, click start
See screenshot 2, update phone software, click start
See screenshot 3, phone not found (or you have the latest firmware), click the repair link
The repair link is not there if you choose update from the mainscreen in SEUS.

I have got standard conditions:
Sony XPERIA X10 mini (E10i)
with
Kernel: nAa kernel (last version)
ROM: MiniCM7 (last version)
PC Companion Version: 2.10.053 (last)
SE Update Service (SEUS) Version: 2.11.12.5 (last)

Please help. I'm starting to be clueless :/
Thanx a lot.
I have edited my post, it is PC Companion ofcourse...
What steps did the repair option make you take? with me it is:
1. you will lose all your data, agree...
2. computer will be prepared, choose your model - x10 mini
3. it will tell you how to enter flash-mode (unplug, shut down, press back, plug in)
4. it will download the firmware and flash it to the phone
5. disconnect the phone and restart
as far as i know, the repair option doesn't care what phone you have, or what software it runs, it trusts you to select the right model, and itself to find the right firmware for that, no other checks are performed, it just flashes it.
PS: I was on nAa-08 and GingerDX this time, especially for this post i have flashed back to stock. i have bricked my phone a few times when i tried flashing custom roms and it always worked this way for me, even if you are on stock firmware it will still flash it again.

If it was still working after you unlocked the bootloader, then relocking it probably won't break it.
If it stopped working after you unlocked the bootloader, then relocking might restore it.
In any case make sure you're on stock firmware before you relock.

leave your phone unplugged when you choose update, and only plug it in when it asks to connect in flashmode. It can't recognise your phone when it's unplugged and should give you the repair option, if SEUS doesn't do that, download PC Companion, that will do it.

So, what is wrong with your phone then? is your battery dead?
When you start PC Companion and you don't have your phone plugged in, you do the following:
Choose update
It will say: Phone not recognised (or something like that) and in that dialog there is a little blue link saying Repair. Click on it.
It will tell you you will lose all user data, accept that
It will ask you to select your phone-model from a list
It will download the firmware for that phone.
It will ask you to connect your phone in flash-mode (press the back-button, plug in the usb-cable, the led will turn green, the dialog will disappear and it will start flashing.
No need to turn on your phone at all, but it needs some charge in the battery in order to successfully complete the flash (normally a charge of over 50% is recommended to be safe)
please help me find goog firmware for my xperia mini (e10i)
my xperia mini bricked after i tried to flash firmware but it still boot to flashmode. please help me find a better firmware to restore my phone!
Hello XDA members
2 weeks ago i bought a brand new Neo V and fully updated it from SEUS
1 week ago i started reading your forums [facepalm]
Yesterday i followed a series of tutorials on the Neo V Development forum and i managed to brick my phone [facewall!!!]
What i did :
1) Download lots of stuff!!!
a) .42 ftf file from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19808360&postcount=3
b) flashtool from it's original website
c) DoomKernel's rooting script
d) CWM script from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19733978&postcount=1 (the 1st way)
e) S1tool from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18013064&postcount=44
2) Use them ALL!!!
a) Install and extract where necessary
b) put .42 in C:\flashtool\firmware
c) put everything else in C:\SETools\ to act tidy
3) Feel like McGuyver!
a) used needle & wire to unlock bootloader with s1tool [success]
4) Take the big step!
a) flash .42 firmware with flashtool [all OK]
phone took it's time to reboot, scared me to death! at least 4 full minutes :/
b) use flashtool to root from the Advanced>Root>ZergRush menu [Fail]
it seems flashtool failed after first part.
c) used DoomKernel's script and rooted phone [all OK]
d) reboot and enjoy! [all OK]
.42 firmware was ok, root ok, boot was slow.. other than that everything worked. (except market, could not download anything!)
e) used Upgrade Service from phone menu and found .62 OTA upgrade. [Failed]
phone downloaded the new firmware, i pressed install, that was it.
And thus my Neo V rebooted to complete the upgrade to .62
The upgrade was never completed, the phone never turned on again.
No SE logo, no led, no nothing!
Everytime i press the power button nothing happens, if i keep it pressed for some time the led flashes green every second.
Everytime i connect it to the PC usb it goes to flash mode on it's own, no back key pressed.
When plugged on charger led flashes green every second.
Last thing i tried was to reflash it (since it went on flashmode) with .42 again.
Nothing there
Still, i would like to see it alive once more since 200 euro for a green led is not really a bargain
Any help appreciated!!
Ok if the pc recognizes it you should be able to resurrect it with pccompanion, seus or wotan client
Sent from my MT11i using Tapatalk
Will try, though phone is not really recognised..
it functions only as when turned off and pressing back button while connecting to pc usb.
EDIT : Installed SEUS again and tried to do an upgrade (only option available through support zone)
Failed first couple of times, then it popped up a new window asking to repair since update is not working.
Asked me phone model and downloading ATM, will report soon
EDIT 2 : Nothing with Pc Companion or SEUS. It reflashed the phone with .62 firmware but the phone is in the same state.
About Wotan Client, i would love to try it but i have no idea how to install it or run it, it asks for credits and i don't think reflashing will help in this case.
wotan flashing is free bro, just download their client and follow steps most probably u will get ur fone back to ur life. best of luck !
Just a thought, the phone acts as if the back button is constantly pressed and i find that VERY weird..
Also, SEUS discovers the phone as "Sony / Sony Ericsson" (?), is it possible that this has to do with the s1tool driver i installed before while unlocking the bootloader?
wow, thats what i call entire history of your phone
anw you experienced OTA brick. because you have unlocked bootloader.
strange, some people get brick some don't, with un-official(s1tool) method.
but with official, everyone get brick.

OTA brick? The tutorials i followed requested me to upgrade with OTA to have .62 with root. Where they wrong?

they werent wrong, but if I think on which tutorial you mean, it says its for people with locked bootloader.
now when you have unlocked bl, your life is easier
you can simply use custom kernel which have root included in itself
go to dev section, you can use galaxian or bbooff kernel.
while you are there check sticky threads to see how to flash kernel.
after you read those, ask if you have any question.

Thank you all SOOOOOO much!!!
Wotan worked, my phone is up and running on .42!!!
So now about tweaking a bit, those kernels support official roms only,
if i wanted to go for something more goodlooking, faster, nicer.. what would you suggest?
No, those kernels arent only for official rom's.
And about custom roms, I'm not the one to talk about it much, as I'm not so much into custom roms dont have enough time to test them.
so you will need to go trough development section and find something you like. remember you can also look in neo section, most of the roms can work on your phone with minor modifications.
also remember, first read then install
So.. i managed to have a working phone and now i am trying to flash galaxian.
i went on cmd, started fastboot with appropriate command and plugged in phone pressing the menu button.
Now in device manager i can see "S1boot Fastboot" and it is not recognised, what am i suppossed to do????
-turn off your phone.
-hold menu key(the right one )
-connect cable
-you should see blue light on led on the side, do you see it?
-go to folder where you have fastboot.exe file
-hold shift key and right-click of mouse anywhere in that folder except on files
-sellect start comandprompt here(or something like that)
- type fastboot devices
-tell if it says something.
Seems like you didn´t install drivers for fastboot...
i thought they are included in adb drivers !?
Well i have installed the whole android sdk with it´s drivers.
As long as it is unrecognized in Windows (no drivers installed) S1Tool has no Chance to detect it

u havent installed the correct drivers, connect the phone again in fastboot mode, go to device manager, select s1tool fastboot, click update driver, browse for it manually and point it to the the folder in which you have fastboot, done.
Wow! Wotan client can unbrick a phone that bricked with OTA?
Sent from my MT11i using XDA
If you dont want to brick phone with new custom kernel, use ,,hotboot,, function.
That should boot phone with new kernel one time.
If you dont like kernel, just reboot your phone
Sorry for English.

Hi, I have a orange network locked xperia ray st18i locked bootloader. I downloaded pc companion and did a software update and all went well. The phone booted up fine after the update until I shut it down and since then I have been unable to get passed the SE screen. It just hangs there. I am able to enter flash mode by pressing the down button and plugging the usb in. Tried phone repair option and still no jog.
Today I tried to unlock the bootloader using the pin touching menthod but that didnt work either. Said something like fatal error....
I need to unlock the bootloader to try a alternative rom to see if that works or revert back to the stock orange rom it came with but im cannot find this anywhere. I am a learner so any advice would be helpful. CAn anyone suggest a rom for the ray that can be installed using flash method WITHOUT unlocked bootloader? I am a **** for doing the uprgrade via sony website but I didnt think this would happen. should have left it as it was.
Thanks for reading.
Take your battery out and try reflashing again using SEUS.
Thread moved to Xperia Ray Q&A.
Yes I have tried that many times already and it finishes the update correctly but still hangs on the SE logo when turned on. I tried again just to see if anything has changed. When I connected the phone whilst pressing the down vol button it recognised it and said your phone already has the latest software but I re installed anyway. No change in result though.
Sony have asked to send the phone to repair and they will reply with a quote for fixing it. Has anyone used this service before and how much can i expect to pay for a software install? Repair office is in Ashford, kent.
thanks
Read my guide and try flashing a stock ftf file, if that fails theres a few other things you could try.

It's not as hard as you may think
Use this to create the ftf, it's step by step. If you can't/don't want to do it I can't help you because I have no orange firmware

HAD YOU READ THE FIRST PART OF MY GUIDE YOU WOULD ALREADY KNOW. Had you even read the stickys in the General section you would have found one.
Right so I created the .ftf file from the three update files. Ive downloaded x10 flash tool. I connect the phone and flashtools registers that a phone is connected then start the flash but soon after the phone just gets disconnected.
any idea's?

Download the latest flashtool (I guess it's 0.9.x) and install it. Go to the drivers folder and install all the drivers for all the phones and modes. Now you launch flashtool, but don't connect the phone! Click on the flash -> flashmode -> select the ftf and don't exclude anything (you have the ability on the right site).
Now click OK and the screen to connect the phone in flashmode appears. Shut down the phone, wait 20 seconds, hold volume down and while holding volume down connect the phone to PC.
Wait until the flashing process has finished and hope it'll start!

Thanks for guiding me and yes it finally flashed BUT the phone still hangs on the SE logo when booted up. I read somewhere on here another member had the same issue and it turned out to be the bandwidth???
What should I try now?
