[Q] NO DATA after WRONG UPDATE flash - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought an (ALLTEL) galaxy s2 Today. It had 2.3.6 so I wanted to upgrade. So I downloaded and flashed what I thought was an official release for Alltel phones. I powered on the device and I US CELLULAR comes up...now I have NO data. I found an ALLTEL version of the update. Flashed it. No data. at this point I dont know what I need to do. I've looked everywhere but everyone is talking in circles or there is just not enough info about this variant of this phone for this particular carrier. Any help would be greatly appreciated...i just got this phone today. It is not rooted. someone please help!

S3-GTI-9300 Software upgrade with prepaid and no data plan?

Hi,
I just bought S3 GTI9300 unlocked phone from amazon and this being my second phone and to save some dollars i am going with prepaid option and NO data plan.
Samsung USA Support say that they won't support this phone as it is not manufactured in US and probably Kies may not detect any software upgrades.
Can some one confirm the same and in case if it is true then what are my options for upgrades with out a Data plan when Andriod 4.1 - Jelly Bean is released for S3.
Appreciate your help on this.
You can flash whatever custom rom you like when jb hits.. There will be stock roms from samfirmware etc to just download and flash with odin, no worries
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Thank You
Thank you very much for your reply and advice .I will open the package now
it's international sgs3. sure there will be stock rom for OUR device for JB.
Kies or OTA should recognize the phone and offer firmware updates .
Firmware will be for the original product code and location ..
jje
It worked.
Hi JJEgan,
I opened the package today and inserted the prepaid sim card and it worked and moreover in an hour I was able to connect to Kies thru home wifi and it detected the software upgrades and applied 24MB of the same.
Thank You for your post and it worked as you mentioned. Can you please clarify if Jelly Bean will also be detected the same way as it detected the firmware or they are both different.
Appreciate your help on this.

You will get the JB update when it comes out. And this will be available on KIES as well as OTA(if Samsung releases it OTA as well). It does not matter where you Galaxy S3 is located, it only matters where it is from.
Thank you very much
Thank you for your response. That really answered my main concern about buying a international unlocked phone.
Note:In my previous reply i mentioned Kies but actually update was from OTA.

Why have I never been prompted about an OTA update?

Hi there,
I bought a galaxy S3 around launch day from Three. It was running their branded software (NELE4 or something like that) so I immediately just put on an unbranded UK firmware when it became available. so far so good.
But i'm confused as to why I've never been offered an OTA update when a friend of mine who also has an s3 direct from o2 gets them. I am currently on the very latest firmware thanks to the great man ODIN but i'd rather not have to do it this way. My phone is chainfire rooted by the way.
(Oh, and on a sidenote, I highly recommend three. Here in London i get 12mbps download speeds. sweeet!)
Thanks for the help

You have a choice XDA or official path .
Remove root flash your original rom and you may get updates OTA anything else is pot luck as you are probably showing wrong codes to the update server .

Hey guys, I am new to the S3 and Andriod as I used to be an iPhone user before. I bought a GT-i9300 from Hong Kong and brought it back to Canada and cant seem to get any software updates. I am currently sitting at build number I9300ZSALG3, just wondering if anyone could help me out doing an OTA update or via Kies or if this is the latest version. My baseband version is I9300XXLG3

Your firmware is from Taiwan..and for it the latest version is what you are currently using..however you dont need to wait for updates you can download firmware for United Kingdom the latest is I9300XXBLG8..you can download it from here..
http://samsung-updates.com/get/58/Samsung_Firmware_GT-I9300_BTU_I9300XXBLG8_Android_4_0_4.html
then flash it via odin...search these threads for the method to do so..
Hi man, Unlike iphone, offical rom is always the worst one.It usually uses more memory and have bad battery management. You can try another rom such as mike's.
Sent from my lovely GT-I9300,by the way,I'm a Chinese!Glad to communicate with you

Thank you! I am not too familiar with flashing with Android again because it is something new and if anything were to happen I wouldn't know how to fix it since I have been an iPhone user. Is flashing firmware any different from jailbreaking the iPhone? - in terms of being safer. Also, how can I be 100% sure that the UK version will work on my phone as well as keep my unlock.

Flashing the firmware is 100% safe if you follow the steps..it does not root your phone so it is not jailbreaking...so you will also not loose your warranty...
the firmwares are almost the same for every region, samsung being an a***le released different firmwares for different regions with different CSC....
but i am quite sure it will work on you region as you are already using Taiwan firmware in Canada...in any case download the Taiwan specific firmware also..so if anything goes wrong you can revert back...
by the way I am in India using BTU firmware..
Me too...
Along the same lines, I have an I-9300 sgs3 with South Africa firmware (XFE), i9300xxale9, but I'm using it in the United States, on AT&T, and am not able to receive updates thru either Kies or Update menu. I will NOT be traveling outside the US anytime soon. What should I load that would let me receive updates here in the States OTA?

which international version

Hey guys, live in the Bahamas and have a international s3 baseband i9300ubdli2, was wondering with all the updates to 4.1.2 which version do i really have since the new update in not available to my phone as yet. can someone clear this up for me. all help is appreciated. Thanks
It doesn't matter as long as it's an i9300 rom
If you really want, just reflash the current modem you are using after the update.
My only suggestion would be to make sure you don't use a firmware from another carrier. Otherwise you're likely to get bloatware out the wazoo.

SGS2 Update Failed. HELP PLEASE

Hello, lovly xda-Members and Supporters,
I'll start so my mother and I use the same smartphone - Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 ...
When she came back home from work and she told me that there is an update for this, I was blown away,
I was looking through the manual setting on the phone for an update, but it said: No update available ...
So, all well and good, then I tried to update via Samsung Kies, Samsung Kies now says to me: Software update via Samsung Kies is not supported by your device ...
I Did something really silly the other day as i flashed a rom to my Galaxy S2 i9100 and i stupidly forgot to back up my stock firmware.
Is there a possibility to get my old firmware again?
I live in Germany.
& I'd love to have this update on my phone.
Each answer is helpful and I thank you once in advance!

You most definitely can return to stock, but if you didn't back up whatever data you had before flashing the new ROM, then they're gone (assuming you wiped before flashing). You'll find all the firmwares you want here:
http://www.sammobile.com/
I'm assuming that you had ICS before flashing the custom ROM, because you said you didn't receive an update, so you can most definitely do that OR, you can manually flash the update you didn't receive yet, which is 4.1.2 JB Anyway, all firmwares are there
Viel Glück

it was for 4.1.2 JB ? my phone is actually 4.0.4, it was allways 4.0.4, so it isn't for my phone anyway ? where can i find stock everything for my phone ? on Sammobile it shows me Taiwan 4.1.2 ...
PS ; Your German ?
In case you still need ICS, Then I'd suggest you google for that. Just search for samsung galaxy S2 4.0.4 firmware. you should find it. It's also helpful if you add your service providor (O2, T-Mobile or any other) just to make sure the phone will work with that network. It's just safer that way
I don't know if we're allowed to post links to outside sources here, but it's enough to say that many German android forums have what you want you just need to search really well
Not German, but I live in Germany :silly:
