Problem with wallpaper resetting? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Is anyone having trouble with getting their wallpaper to stick? It seems like after a reboot, any wallpaper that I set is returned to the stock wallpaper. This also applies to the vibration profile that I set for notifications. Stock VZW rom, rooted with no modifications whatsoever.

I am also having issues with this. Im rooted but still stock rom running nova prime. I have tried setting the wallpaper as home screen and as nova wallpaper. My lockscreen also sometimes disappears. I am also running widget locker for my lockscreen and sometimes it disappears. This doesnt just happen on reboots for me. Sometimes it happens when I dont use my phone for a while (like overnight) even if the phone is on the whole time. Are you running titanium backup or juicedefender? I thought they might be causing it. Anyone else having issues or have a fix?

Are either of you using Xposed or 3minit? If you do any framework changes it reverts the wallpaper.

Also using Nova Prime. Not using Xposed or 3minit or anything else that messes with the framework. I have Titanium Backup run a batch job every night, but the wallpaper doesn't reset every night.

I am also not running either of those. Rooted but stock still. I cant imagine why nova would change my background on the lock screen and turn widgetlocker off. Widgetlocker is still enabled when I open it but it doesnt show up before the lock screen until I open the app. All 3 changes seem to happen randomly. The other day my lock screen changed and wouldnt change back until I rebooted.

This happened to me again overnight last night. My widgetlocker lock screen and my homescreen disappeared. I also had a notification that titanium backup had performed a backup last night. Im sure this has to be some sort of settings issue. I cant imagine were the only 2 people with nova and titanium. Does anyone know a fix for this? Its driving me nuts.

Bump. We cant be the only 2 this is happening to.

[Q] Using the notification bar clears the default home launcher

Ok guys here is a weird one..
My mother just got an HTC Flyer, and it is still stock / not-rooted. I did an OTA update as soon as the Flyer was set up and ready to go. Its running Gingerbread 2.3.4 and the build is now 2.23.405.4 CL104635. I installed LauncherPro for her as Sense is a bit laggy, and she recently started having a problem where the tablet keeps forgetting its default home launcher.
I narrowed the problem down and basically this is what happens. No matter which launcher is set as default, as soon as you pull down the notification bar all default launcher settings are cleared. You can tick the 'use by default' box again, and switch between and use apps to your hearts content, and pressing home will bring you back to your homescreen, but as soon as you pull the notification bar down, pressing home asks you which launcher to use.
Obviously the first thing I did was go to settings > applications > manage applications and clear defaults for either HTC Sense launcher, or LauncherPro, neither of which work. I've tried apps like homesmack, homeswitcher and cleardefault, none of which make any difference.
This is a bizzare problem, and again I say, it is easily reproduced by simply pulling down the notification bar
Any ideas?
Very wierd. I use ADW EX Launcher on my Flyer and have no such problems but I see no reason that other launchers should not behave properly.
I've tried various other launchers, and even did a factory reset, but the problem is still there. When trying any launcher besides HTC Sense, the default home is instantly forgotten when the notification bar is pulled down, and I am forced to choose between the two launchers EVERY TIME. 'Use by default' is useless.
I'd like to avoid rooting for now for the warranty, but I don't see any other option!
This is driving me insane! Come on guys, any suggestions?
my wife's incredible just started doing this exact same thing last night. I have no idea what caused it, and no idea how to fix it. Making me absolutely crazy. Going to try and backup her stuff and factory reset it.....it worked fine until yesterday.
have you tried Home Switcher app or similar?

Easy solution... unlock the bootloader and put Honeycomb on it, as per globatron's instructional thread. It's pretty straightfoward.
Lol, not on an incredible.

Totally missed that part . Wasn't expecting people to talk about problems with the Incredible in the Flyer forums haha
Thank goodness, I'm not crazy. I have the exact same problem and it was (is) driving me nuts, but I couldn't figure out that pulling down the notification bar was the event caused this.
It's rather odd, because I'd been running Go Launcher EX for a month or two without any problems, then this prompt started happening a week or two ago. I cleared launcher defaults, reset them, etc. So I decided to try ADW. Still: same problem. Uninstalled Go Launcher EX, still the same problem (with ADW still installed).
I have a stock HTC Sensation running Sense 3.0 on Android 2.3.4. I don't remember seeing any updates come down for Sense or Android when the problem started, but perhaps I don't recall something. I wonder if a recent update to Launcher Pro caused the issue that stuck around even after being uninstalled? I don't really want to do a factory reset to try getting a clean machine that never Go Launcher installed.
I'm still frustrated by this problem which I haven't been able to solve. I know Sense adds things to the notfication bar like the "Quick Settings" tab. There must be some part of Sense that is activated when the bar displays causing the issue on the next press of the home key.
If any of you have found a solution, please post!
Thanks
I am having the same issue. Running stock Android 2.3.4 on my HTC Rezound. Also on my HTC Thunderbolt. Both when running CyanogenMod and HTC Sense. Also my mother-in-law has an EVO 4G running CyanogenMod doing the same thing. Its frustrating and I have tried eeverything but call HTC themselves. Its frankly starting to piss me off.
If anyone finds a solution, please let us know.
I have the same issue with HTC EVO 3D. Pulling down the Notification bar or Long Press the Home button would reset the Default launcher. I also found out that if I take out my sd card, it doesn't happen any more but I couldn't live without the sd card.
I have the same problem. But only opening notification bar clears default launcher on my HTC Evo 3D (not long home button press). I don't have my Evo rooted because of warranty and too early state of alternative ROMs. Removing SD card didn't help in my case.
Please help, it makes me crazy. I tried factory reset but this problem is now back after few weeks and after installing my favorite 150 applications only into internal memory. So avoiding SD card didn't help and I also don't know the reason.

Icons disappearing

So twice now my icons disappeared on me. The only programs I can access will be the ones listed in the recently open list. I have to reboot to get the icons back.
Anyone else getting this? Also, I don't think I am doing much of anything but switching between apps. Thanks.
Little more info please?

I got this too last night
a lot of times when an app automatically updates, it removes the icon. looks at the icon that disappeared and see if it was automatically updated in the market.
Every icon installed and apps/games, widgets. I mean everything disappears. You can't even swipe left or right to get to your other desktop. The only things you can access are the home (which really doesn't do anything because you are already home), recently opened apps, and the back (which again will not do anything). Settings work too but that's it. To get everything back, you will need to reboot.
Icons also going invisible
Add me to the group of people who lose all their icons. This happens to me several times a day. The icons are still there just invisible. If i touch the right spot I can launch things as normal. I can also change the background if I touch an empty area. But every single icon is gone and the entire background is displayed. Also the app button which I can touch and launch if I pick the right spot simply brings up a blank black background again with no apps/icons.
I do have the video issues on occasion where certain games blink/flash and lock up, but usually don't do this if I restart the tablet and run the game first thing. Also have the random occasional screen tearing especially when using a live background.
I'm looking forward to the February update and hope this fixes the issue. I'd reset the icon cache if I knew how but I'm not sure that's the issue. If anyone has ideas let me know.
Thanks
Possible cause?
Hi guys,
I didn't have this issue after upgrading to 4.0.3, but then sometime last week I did start having the same issue with the stock launcher "crashing" (well, it was still running, but in brain-dead mode where it won't display icons or widgets).
I started un-installing stuff and after about 4 hours of messing around I noticed that the launcher didn't crash when I had disabled "cool tool". (This is a really cool floating CPU graph.) Cool tool _seemed_ to work fine on my prime, and I had it floating over the status/button bar. But apparently it was, after running for a couple hours, causing openGLRenderer to run out of memory which caused the launcher to freak out.
At least that's my take on what was happening. Anyway, I'm using SeePU now, and I haven't had a launcher "crash" in a couple days. Maybe this isn't your problem, but I used "System Info Pro" (or something like that) to view the android log. Might help in troubleshooting? If this IS the root cause, I guess somebody should tell the developer...
Getting this thing loaded with apps & widgets AND staying stable and fast has been a challenge to say the least. But a fun one. I think?!

Same bug here. It happened to me a couple of time. I reported it to Asus Canada yesterday... But no news yet.
It looks like the "foreground" become transparent/invisible. The System bar still works. For me, I can even click on the invisible icons to start the apps.
The only work-around I found is to reboot my device.
I experienced the bug once more this morning. I tought it was related to "force GPU rendering", I had it enabled and since I disabled it, most of my bugs are gone.
But this morning again, the foreground became "transparent" and I was only seeing the background.
BTW, you could rename the thread: "Icons disappearing/transparent desktop".
Also, does version .13 fix this?
Same problem here.
Problem occus now a few times a day. All Icons/Widgets and app drawer icon are invisible but still clickable! Only a restart solves the problem or going to settings->apps->force close for the homescreen-app will solve it for some time.
Any Ideas or a statement from ASUS?

I reported the problem to Asus.
You should do the same, if it's not already done.
I have seen this 3 times in day or so...any one had any update on cause or fix other than reboot
Same here
Add me to the list as well... all icons go transparent ... only see the background ... can tap "invisible" icons and they work ...
I confirm it is still present in WW .15.
Sometime a "force close" of the Launcher is enough, but other time it happens again and again, only a reboot fix it (for a while). Beside this (annoying) bug, I consider my Prime very stable. Gmail sometimes crash, but it seems to be fixed (or less prominent in .15).
Asus Tech. Support suggested me to do a factory reset... Haven't tried it yet. I may also try an alternate Launcher (Trebuchet...) to see if it's only related to the Launcher or the system.
PS: Don't forget to report it to Asus Tech. Support.
I saw this for the first time today on the non-Prime TF101. I upgraded to the FOTA ICS update a couple of weeks ago (for which I've observed the same occasional resets as others) but this is the first time I've had this app problem.
Different desktops can be accessed, but they're all blank. Apps can be run from their invisible icons. The top-right app menu also has invisible apps which can be run.
I have a small (2.5MB 30s) video, if I manage to upload it.
I had a similar thing again since, but this time the icons returned when moving between desktops. I think the common thing I was doing was grouping apps together into single composite icons.
I'm not 100% sure, but since I cleaned up my home screens it does not happen anymore. I removed all my widgets except for gmail and calendar. And all my stuff is on one screen (thanks to folders).
You may try this too to see if it makes a difference.
Thanks. My screens were almost completely full. But I never saw this issue until I started using folders!
I got it the other day for the first time.
I had just downloaded Simplistic Text.
Rebooted, everything was fine--just assumed it had something to do with some file cleanup or something that didn't get done after the download.
Ah, and fyi, I'm running Honeycomb on the Japanese build. (They still haven't given us the damned ICS yet over here.)
All the icons disappearing used to happen to me a couple of times a day, with only a reboot fixing the issue.
Whilst trying to fix a constantly crashing GMail I removed the Beautiful Widgets home screen weather/clock widget and this amazingly fixed the disappearing icons and hasn't happened since. One down only another 101 bugs left to fix!
Hope this helps someone.

adw challenges

Rooted nook on cm 7, after I started using it today, I lost my status bar and soft buttons. I did not go into settings and change anything. Any direction towards some help on adw launcher would be appreciated.
Thanks
Try reboot? I have lost my launcher a few times. My status bar once or twice. A reboot always fixes it. Not exactly sure yet what has caused it. If it happens again, get a logcat or dmesg and post it up for the cm7 team to check out.

try doing the obvious thing first and reboot? i had that problem with beautiful widgets and a reinstall of that app solved the problem. did u restore adw with titanium backup? if u did try reinstalling adw.
The status bar disappearing I believe is a CM7 issue in and of itself. I run CM7 on my phone and it has happened on the phone more than the NT.
Thanks for the responses. A reboot has brought everything back as it was. Enjoying my CM7 tablet and the support on this forum!
Did it force close, or did it just disappear with no error or warning?
If no error, it could have just been hidden.

I'm sure the regular version of ADW has this too but I have the paid version to go off of. You can set gestures to show/hide the "DockBar" and/or "StatusBar". Regardless of wether it was a gesture or a glitch you may want to try this if it happens again:
Long press on a blank space on the home screen.
Select "Launcher Actions" from the menu.
Select which ever you need: "Show/hide statusbar" or "Open/close DockBar"
Then just press the new icon on the home screen to restore the statusbar or dock.
Personally, my status bar disappeared without error. Nothing I did would get it to restart other than a quick reboot. Which I am accustomed to anyhow so it's not really a big deal to me. As for the launcher disappearing, it happened. No error. Reset/restart ADW does nothing. Again, this has happened on my NT, my phone, and a coworkers HD2 phone running cm7 as well. It's basically something that I (and her as well) have just learned to live with. Restarting is quick enough to bring everything back to life.
I've got the paid version on four devices (Two NT's, a HD2 and a G2) and have never seen this. Perhaps it's an intentional limitation in the free version... Just kidding. I'd send the author an email about it. Try the widgets I suggested, I'm curious to know if they work to remedy this. Also check that "Gestures" isn't turned on and configured in the Setting (if that's even in the free version).

[Q] Google Now Launcher icons deleted by Ultra Power Savings mode

Weird little bug I just discovered:
I sideloaded the Google Now Launcher by following this thread. Everything was working great, until I tried the Ultra Power savings mode. When I turned it on, then back off, all my icons on the Google launcher home screen had been deleted, except for phone, contacts, and settings. Nova launcher and Touchwiz launchers kept all their icons.
Anyone else experience this, or any idea why this might be?

I had exactly the same thing happen. No clue what happened. My widgets were gone, too.
I mean, I took the two seconds to restore them, but still. I will say, on the plus side, that my phone was at 8% from about 7PM until 11PM, and between 9:30 and 11, saw almost constant screen-on time. Ultra Power Save mode is pretty badass, far's I'm concerned.
I had the same problem. If you are rooted and have xposed installed you can download the Gel settings module. Within it is a backup launcher icons and restore function. It requires the paid app 3$ I think.. But worth it to just restore icons easily after ultra power saving mode.. Also plenty of awesome features as well

Had the same issue; haven't tried the xposed option yet (looking into it, xposed sounds cool for other stuff)
I use Titanium Backup, and restore the Google Search module. Then all the Google Launcher (Now) icons come back. Its an extra step, but like OP mentioned, the Ultra power saving mode is badass fo sure!
--Galaxy S5, Rooted, Google Launcher.
Still not fixed !
Still not fixed in 2016 ! Same problem with my Galaxy Note 5. Tried the feature yesterday, this morning no icons on Google Now launcher !!
Just happened to me on S7e and nougat

Nova Launcher Issue

Something I noticed about a week ago, and that I've yet to figure out the cause of, is that trying to switch the app drawer icon's image while running Nova is no longer working. It does when you first install Nova, or after clearing the data, however it eventually stops working. Instead, holding down the icon's image in the edit pop-up makes the screen hang for a second (like it's going to open the icon preview screen) then revert back to the edit pop-up. A few others mentioned this over on Droid Life, so thankfully I don't appear to be the only one.
Any idea what may be causing this little glitch over time?

Hmm that's strange.. No problems at all here with Nova Prime. I've switched the app drawer icon many times and doesn't happen.
Maybe try clearing cache/Dalvic for the entire phone not just Nova data, may help may not
- Tapatalked from the G3
Been running Nova since day 3 so 3 and a half weeks at least (later upgraded to Nova Prime) and no such issue...
If it were happening constantly I think it'd be a little easier to pinpoint an issue. Best I can tell though, it only crops up after changing the icon pack a few times. Also, adding another app drawer shortcut to the home screen does not alleviate the problem either. Something is causing it to randomly lock up, and I believe it may have something to do with LG's stock software. Granted the only evidence I have to back that up stems from never having issues with any of my other devices and the fact that there is little to no reference of this in conjunction with Nova to be found on the web.

This is what I get for posting a topic after not searching for another answer since mid July when I first noticed it xD. Curious that it would require moving back to stock. That makes me believe it really is something in the code on LG's part that is causing it. Hopefully Nova can find a workaround for it.
