It only works on stock based roms, but those are only kangs. Cm is based on aosp and compiled from source. No chance we will get hdmi output anytime soon on aosp roms

Samsung just put out a 4.3 update. That should make it possible to get this into other AOSP ROMs, or at least possible to more highly customize ROMs based on the stock 4.3. They suspended the update because of lag and battery issues, they're probably going to have to do some wiping or scrap the update, but we already have it.

I don't understand... So there is chance to hdmi work on CM also in the future?

Not unless samsung releases the drivers, which won't happen anytime soon (if ever).

Sorry to bump an old thread. Is my only option to either revert back to Touchwiz or buy a phone that supports HDMI/MHL out?

Reverting is always an option :victory:

Plenty of roms based on stock, MHL works fine on all those.

You can consider buying a chromecast device. I believe it is full supported. And it has the flexibilities of the same gadget can communicate with all of your devices and be a wireless one.

I bought a cheap HDMI-MHL cable and it worked on CM exactly the same as it did on Touchwiz, surprisingly. For the record I'm using this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2763735

No AOSP firmwares do at this point - codeworkx and espenfjo are focusing on working the remaining bugs out of the camera first. A side effect of the camera work is signs of life from the MHL port - but usually just a frozen picture.

Hi guys,
Any news about the MHL?
I'm currently on 20120413 and everything works good, I Love CM9!
but MHL would be nice to have... the only thing that works when I'm using the MHL is the video... so I can watch Youtube on the big screen VIA my I9100, but games and Android OS are frozen on the TV..
There is some expectation of when it will be ready?
Thanks!

They're still fixing main issues such as external SD issues and the like. MHL doesn't seem very important to them at the moment, maybe in the future after the rest of the issues are fixed. I'd love to have MHL again but it's not too big of a deal.
Is there a decent non-stock/touchwiz that does support mhl? Does the AOKP ported rom work?

[Q] CM9/AOKP MHL support?

Sorry to ask this again, since previous posts have not been updated in awhile, but is there any update on MHL support for the i777 in the most recent CM9/AOKP?
Just tried it, still doesn't work. It shows whatever is on the screen when first plugged in, but doesn't update screen changes.
There's something I don't understand about this though... I was under the impression that it didn't work because of a closed-source Samsung driver, but it works on the Galaxy Nexus. If the GNex is very close in hardware to the i777/i9100, why couldn't the driver be copied right into these devices, even if it is closed source? Hopefully someone in the know will enlighten this noob.

I forget where the support dropped, but it used to play video fine. MX player could push 1080p content fine. But, only local video worked, not Netflix, and not any other screen mirroring like games. Last time I tried it, it doesn't work anymore.

First Post
Hello to every member of this thread, this is actually my first post on XDA.
You know, i've been following this thread from the outside, but I decided to register and take part because this MHL issue is driving me crazy.
I was an AOKP full user, since I found their JB ROM stabilty and speed awesome. However, yesterday I received a MHL adapter by Samsung, and got terribly dissapointed by the fact that the MHL was not working.
It doesnt even show the first screen image, like someone said. In my case, was a big "NO SIGNAL" sign on the TV.
This morning, after some research, I discovered that CM9 nor AOKP were MHL friendly, so I started trying random ROMS to see if any of them work. Only tried Serendipity and Shostock.
Compared with AOKP, both of them are very limited (no ROM customization, plus some bugs...) but the MHL DID work, and got very dissapointed:
My HDTV shows an ugly and pixelated mirror of my homescreen (maybe a resolution issue?)
Regarding speed, didnt find any lags, even with the Rise of Glory game... But the image quality was SO bad, that I prefeer looking at the phone, rather than the tv (in the phone, not a single quality drop):
So, here I am, now Im about to try Mystic Glory ROM, to see if I can get a decent MHL viewing.
You know, even the YouTUbe app, downloading an HD 720p video, in the TV looked like an awful 360p.
Already checked the TV configuration, is not possible to set the HDMI resolution (and couldnt find any resolution change for the phone).
One last thing, I find really suspicious the fact that my phone doesnt react when I plug the adapter.
Any Ideas?
Big hug for everyone
If you had read around you would know mhl is not working on aosp roms, it is working on touchwiz roms.

Because that's the Radio Interface Layer. And if that's what you are referring to then it's been pretty much cracked. You should probably take a look into the Original Development forum.

I'm actually looking forward to efforts to build straight AOSP for the DNA, since Paranoid Android on Nexus devices actually moved from a CM base to a straight AOSP base. Also, one of my favorite Galaxy Nexus ROMs, BAMF Paradigm, is based on straight AOSP (though I prefer the extensive feature set of AOKP on my Nexus 7 tablet).

LG G2/Nexus5 hardware rom compatibility ?

In the future, will it be possible to extract Nexus5 rom/updates and apply them directly to G2 ?
Just asking, because G2 and Nexus are sharing a lot of same hardware.
It'll probably be easier to port Nexus5 rom, instead of having a lot of work on a common 10.2CM ?

Yea the Optimus G Pro already received 4.4 based off the N4. I'm suprised we haven't got 4.4 based off the N5 yet. Perhaps the devs are still getting comfortable with the new hardware.
Real good to know about the N5/G2 ease of porting. I'm particularly curious about the kernels and how similar they are to one another. Moving forward with newer versions of Android, the kernels are the important thing.
I'm hoping it'll be easier to port roms over. The only concern I have is whether or not they'd work with the VZW version. Not sure if you could use the RIL from the G2 or a new file from scratch would have to be made to be able to get working data.
