Hi everyone. This is my first post here and also my first time trying to load a custom ROM. Could a kind user please provide me with a thorough guide on how to ZIP install Entropy's kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445840) and then ZIP install Chip 1.5 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737432)?
1. Is your device rooted? If it is, then you can skip to step 2. If not, download SuperOneClick, plug in your device (make sure USB debugging is enabled), and click "root."
2. Download the DD_01142012.tar file in Entropy's thread.
3. Download Odin. After that, hold the down button and the power button. Your device should be in Download Mode. Click on "PDA" in Odin and select the file you downloaded.
4. After that, download Chip's ROM unto your SD card or unto your Galaxy Player.
5. Hold the power button and the up button (you should be in CWM), wipe your data, cache, and Davik cache (go to "Advanced" to wipe this). Click on "Install zip from SD card," find Chip's ROM, and install it.

Thanks so much! I will try this out right now and see how it goes!
Haha, yes! It took only 30 some minutes, but I now have the Android 2.3.6 kernel and Chip1.5 running on my Galaxy Player! Thank you, Entropy, Mevordel, and of course The Kryptonite!
No problem.
Sorry to bother you again, TheKryptonite, but whenever I try to setup a Google Account I get the error message: "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server". Do you know how to fix this?

SO SORRY! I just noticed the "Data" option in the Notifications. I turned it off by holding down the Data Icon and then going into settings and turning on background data. It's all good now

I have a samsung vibrant and I am very interested in downloading the CM7 Rom. However when I follow the directions on XDA I am not able to flash it all. Could someone please walk me through on how to flash the updated CM7 Rom??
1. Copy "cm7-vibrant-initial-20110304" and "vibrant-efsbackup" to your phone.
2. Make sure you are on a voodoo kernel. For example: Overstock
3. Have Odin ready with "cm7-vibrant-initial-kernel" in PDA. Make sure auto-reboot and auto partition are unchecked.
4. Turn off the phone
5. Enter recovery via 3 buttons and flash "vibrant-efsbackup"
6. Pull out battery and then enter download mode via 2 buttons and then flash the "cm7-vibrant-initial-kernel" using Odin.
7. Pull out the battery and enter recovery via 3 buttons and choose "mounts and storage" Wipe System, Cache, and Data.
8. Flash "cm7-vibrant-initial-20110304" and then data wipe/factory reset then reboot.
9. Let it sit for 15 min. Reboot. Flash Update.
Hit thanks if I helped.
Yup zer0nine pretty much explained it...... there also is a youtube video showing this look on you tube and do a search
which cm7-vibrant-initial-20110304 do I chose??
the ".zip" not the ".zip.md5"
yeah but their are two not one.
there's an initial kernel .tar file (which you need to flash through odin) and there is an initial .zip file (which is what you flash through the initial kernel's builtin CWM). There aren't "two" initial ones to flash.

Lol, how did you expect to enter recovery if you didn't flash it?
You need to flash the recovery first
work on getting the recovery flashed before installing custom ROMS. You can opt to choose Clockwork (ROM manager) through market or Amonra.. either ways would be fine.
Then go with the usual flashing after your done with the recovery.
Simplest thing is just go to market.
Search for Rom manager. after install click on it.
Then when it opens press the 1st from the top and you have ClockworkMod.
For flashing the ROM. Find the rom in file explorer or any file manager and click on it, it will prompt for rom manager. click rom manager and wipe dalvik cache and Wipe Data and cache..
No worries ,just install Rom-Manager -> flash clockwork mod recovery.
Then it will notify succesfully flashed clockwork mod recovery..
Try three buttons combo..
It will work .
hoping it will solve your problems.

Yes, IMO ROM manager is the easiest to install...a bit of a user friendly
Hey guys. I just updated my Legend to the newest stable CM (with dalvik wipe, using ROM manager) and it freezes upon booting. I can get to recovery mode and I have ADB.
What do I do ? Is there a way to flash a ROM using ADB ?
It's been a long time since I worked with this stuff.
I don't think you can flash from ADB.
I suggest try to download the Cyanogen 7.1.0 rom again and check the MD5 after to make sure it is intact, I downloaded directly onto my phone then used ES file manager to check the MD5 # I had to download a few times because the MD5 # was not correct.

A quick question in your method, did you ONLY wipe the Davlik cache or did you wipe the system as well? I think you will have to wipe system & davlik when flashing a different rom.
How do I find out if md5 is correct or not ?
More importantly, what do I do after I donwload it ? It's not like I can do anything with the phone now, except get to recovery mode and control the phone via ADB in recovery mode.
And I only wiped dalvik cache.
I have help out someone with a similar issue here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18597552&postcount=2
If you want to check MD5 # on the computer goto google and search for a MD5 file checker, ok you might want to know what MD5 is? its a check sum, the correct check sum is on the same page you downloaded on the cyanogen website.
if you know adb commands then you could always "push" the rom zip file to the sdcard on the phone, then flash it using CWM you'll need to wipe system and davlik at the very least.
First try to wipe data factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvikcache.
Reboot and it must be OK.
If it doesn't work download again cm7 stable, and flash it again with the 3 wipe.
I did a "clear storage" from HBOOT, but it didn't work.
When I get into recovery, I get a screen with a red exclamation mark. I guess that means I don't have CWM recovery. I have the files on my SD card, but htey have been copied from my previous one.
So I guess I'll need to flash CWM again...
You must have used fake flash to flash the rom correct?
Boot it into recovery and press the vol up button and the power button together ok?
It might give you an error once but press it again and again and you'll get into android recovery ok
Then go to install update.zip and cycle down to it using vol up and down buttons and the power button to select ok
Then it should load up clock work mod and you can use the trackpad now
Select mounts and storage and select mount SD card
Then connect USB and put the newly downloaded rom on your phone and once it's completed go back and go into advance settings I think... And do wipe cache and etc... Then go on install from SD and select your rom
Hope it helped
I flashed the ROM from ROM manager. I had CWM, but I don't anymore, because I changed SD cards. I have come to the point where I only need the goddamn update.zip file, but I can't find it anywhere and I think I'll go mad if I don't find it NOW
EDIT: Ok, I found it. At least I did a backup of my previous SD card....
I would like to install VillainRom 3.0 on my GS2

Where to start.. In CWM after save villain on SD, just flash update.zip?
Coming from Another ROM
Ensure CWM recovery is available, do a CWM/nandroid backup and titanium backup, and put the zip onto the root of the internal SD.
Enter CWM, carry out a factory reset, and cache wipe, and flash the ROM via "Install zip from SD" option.
Reboot the phone into VillainROM, bearing in mind the first boot may take some time on the boot animation.

1. download and copy the villian zip file to your sd card after making a back up of your data.

3. go advanced and clean dalvik cache. Stay in recovery mode
4 select install zip file.

For rooting your NK1, just follow the direction in the OP.\
---
1. Take the NK1 OTA update.
2. Download and install Towelroot-v3.apk(this version does not require internet access).
3. Place your phone into "Download Mode" (press and hold the Home, Volume Down, and Power keys until the phone powers on and displays warning screen, then press Volume Up key) and Flash the I545_NC5_Stock_Kernel using Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).
4. Open Towelroot from your app drawer and press "Make it Rain" to root your device.
5. Power off then boot into "Download Mode" again and flash the I545_NK1_Stock_Kernel also using Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).
6. Download SuperSU to manage root access. Done!
