Rooting Xperia S

Good day, XDA. I'd like to ask help with regards to rooting my Xperia S. I have recently bought this and it got shipped with ICS 4.0.4 and build number 6.1.A.0.45 and I updated its build number to 6.1.A.2.45. I have also unlocked its bootloader successfully. Now I'm having problems on how to root this. I've read certain posts regarding ICS rooting and they all state that it has to have 6.1.A.0.45 build number. But I don't know how to rollback to the previous build number. What should I do?? Please help..

Just flash Advanced stock kernel v14 by arakmar via fastboot.
What will it let me achieve then, bro?

I am in the exact situtation as you. I too bought my Xperia S last week and have updated to the latest firmware. As this is my first Android phone, I have no clue how to move forward.
I would be glad if you post your findings. Thanks.

Thanks for the link. but the link you gave is for GB and I am on ICS already. (I know, there is a way to flash to GB but... ) I will better wait for a perfect way for rooting a device with ICS on locked BL installed.
BTW, here
Also, you can never brick your device on LOCKED bootloaders so don't worry
DId he mean unlocked bootloader?

Yea, i too hope someday someone will develop a way to root so that you don't have to go back to GB !!
Only for unlocked bootloader... here is a step by step I put together using the information gathered from various threads here in XDA.. I have used this very same method for my phone, so it is definitely working.. if you run into any problem like not being able to get into the Fastboot mode, or I missed some file, let me know..

So essentially you are just replacing a stock kernel by a rooted kernel. What if I want to go back to the unrooted kernel?

Hi francantabria, if your bootloader is still locked (it will be so if you don't unlock it) you can't install a real recovery, but you can install a very similar tool - bootstrap or second init- (the artas182x's one) which needs busybox for working.
Busybox is a set of advanced Linux commands for Android, just Google it.
Cheers. Good luck.

Hi francantabria, of course you can, but the proper order is (giving as a fact that you want to unlock the bootloader, you know that you'll lose the guaranty stuff):
1.unlock the bootloader (previously you need to be familiar with fastboot, install its drivers,...)
2.install a recovery via fastboot (or Nandroid Manager) it could be CWM or TWRP.
3.root easily (flashing SU and busybox from the recovery).
4.flash custom rom.
If you follow this way read the tutorials seriously and do it the exact way.
Respect the timing issue: be very careful. I have not unlocked yet, so my experience, at the moment, is only by reading about it. (Fastboot drivers installed and a little more).
Cheers. Good luck.

I think before you reccomend that method we have to know what model is he using and where did he get it from? as sometime different country has different LTE frequencies, also without knowing which model is he using (I mean D6503 and D6502) it might cause brick his device?

Thx for provide me infos. I think you can simply flash ftf using flashtool. and newest firmware is .438. Just note that sometime LTE frequencies may not match to your carrier specify model and can't connect to your LTE network. I hope you know how to use flashtool if not don't worry there is many theread about flashtool on Z2 forum. And next time you have to backup all your data and rom before you try to root it. Good luck.
