I have searched online for this issue and tried most of them
In general, from the first minute, the signal bars of both wifi and cell network have been grey. No matter if i use cell network only or work/home/public wifi APs. But data flow has not problems at all, all app download, web surfing, IM apps and SNS apps work fine.
It is said that grey signal bars indicates the google service is not connected. I registered my Gmail account the first time startup. And in the system, google account and google+ account are working fine. Hangout, Gmail, Google Now, Google+, Google calendar, Google Maps, Google Play, Youtube, all working fine.
I did some suggested tricks including:
1\ Clear data and force stop the "google service framework" in the app management. Then reboot.
2\ Reset the phone and erase all user data, serveral times.
3\ Uninstall google play service updates (in app management), then reinstall them through the notification from google hangout.
4\ Use the ATT ready2go service to set the phone for one of the phone reset trials.
5\ Turn on most of the common location identify/sharing settings
In general, NONE of them worked. I don't know which google service is causing the grey bar, nor will I see any further action to take.
Considering return and get another one to try. But sincerely, does not see why that would help.
Thanks for your advice!
I was just told by a friend that under sense interface, the signal bars will remain grey and will never turn into blue (the normal color of all other android devices I have used). Is that true? Can someone verify this?
Yes, Sense's signal indicator is always white/grey.

Thanks a lot!
Stupid me working on things before getting a clear idea about it.
Yet I do think the color changing indicator is a good design. I often rely on it to confirm that I am really "online" instead of just "linked to the router".

Hey there,
I was wondering if it's normal that my wifi indicator usually stays completly grey even when I'm standing next to the router and connectivity is working properly?
Yep. Only goes blue when you're connected to Google servers (using Google Play, syncing calendar/contacts, etc).

Even when I'm browsing the play store is stays grey,
I'm using hydrogen - ics btw, the indicators are all blue except the wifi which turns grey after the first time u lock the phone and never becomes blue again
Issue with your rom/kernel in that case. Whatever the case may be, I wouldn't worry about it if it isn't affecting the functionality of the phone. If you having problems with anything Google on your phone, then I'd worry.
If you're an anal-retentive type, ask in the forum devoted to the rom you're using, if you really want to test the phone, go back to stock & you'll see what I'm talking about.
I figured I'd post a trick I've found to get the Wi-Fi / Data icon blue again if it's sticking on gray.
Everything I've read says the phone has to have a connection to Google Play Services servers for it to turn blue. The only causes I can come up with would be ad blockers, DNS issues or firewall issues.
But thinking about it I also thought more about the Play Services thing. So the first thing I tried was going into Settings/Apps/all & clearing the data on both Google Play Services & the Play Store and also uninstalling their updates if there are any on either.
The effect of clearing data on the Play Store is you'll get the agreement prompt again which is no big deal and the Play Store seems to update itself back to the latest version within a minute or so.
Last resorts- if you have any of the blocking apps see if they're causing it by uninstalling & a reboot.
Finally, troubleshoot DNS
Hopefully the first 2 options fix it. It isn't a big deal if your connectivity works but if if it's a concern that's how I fix it now.
I figured I'd pass it on
Google Apps on Android: (4.2.1 Cubot One) the saga continues.
Everything works fine using WiFi, but using cellco 3G data and everything BUT any google app (play, mail, maps) feels like it is firewalled 90% of the time. There are occasional bursts of function using 3G data, but only randomly. But at all times, WiFi works just fine and Google sync works immediately.
I gave up trying to get Vodafone to explain - they offered no help at all and I sensed a conspiracy of silence. Searching around for "android google maps error 403" produces a vast array of complaints about this issue that Google is simply not admitting to. But the sinister phrase "traffic shaping" occurs.
I assume there is an ever increasing biblical amount of data traffic going between google and any phone network these days. So are networks prioritising customers who are paying more?
In an effort to sort out the erratic google sync issue, there is much talk of deleting data and apps and reinstalling - but if it all works with WiFi - but does not when using 3G data, then I doubt if any amount of deleting and installing is going to address the fundamental issue which looks like "when is IP not IP?"
Are the Cellcos simply prioritising their big spenders and routing other cheapskate users to the nul device?
Is there a way to save the info/history from the "Data Usage" in the settings? Anyway to restore it? Going to wipe my phone, and wold like to preserve the info
Try titanium backup. Search for "Data usage (policy and stats). " I personally use My Data Manager so I'm not 100% on this, but it seems like that's what it would back up
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using XDA Free mobile app
I use a full wipe Odin on my phone to get it back to as new.
But after a day or 2, I started to realize that I'm not getting push data.
My WhatsApp isn't coming in except if I kill the app and open it and going into a chat, hangouts didn't come in for a few hours till I restarted my phone, and gmail isn't coming in till I refresh all mailboxes separately & my Chase nofications aren't coming in as well.
As I have restored my data info, I have seen that Chase was blocked from background data, which wasn't the case before the backup. I have enable background data, but still not working.
For the others, I disabled and then reanabled background data, but I'm still having problems.
Any insight?
I'm having 2 major issues with my phone.
1) The data alert, (on the data usage page), shows up an alert 1/2 gig before I reach that amount. Bug involved?
2) My GPS lately is creating lots of problems. GPS Toggle is on, but Waze/Maps doesn't collect the data from it, and Waze shows an error that the GPS is not working, and Maps shows my position based on GPS-A. Only when I re-toggle the GPS (off/on), does it show up in the notification bar "searching for location/location found" and then Waze/Maps shows the correct position.
Any insights?

I have a Huawei Honor X1 (503L version B007) and live in northern Europe.
I noticed that, although I have turned on the settings to share my location, I can't see my device in Google Dashboard.
In the past weeks there is one moment An hour or so at 03:00 AM that my phone shows up in Google dashboard, but that's all.
Also my weather apps do not seem to find the location I am at or take a long time to switch to the correct location (time to check is set to a low interval).
GPS works fine. Internet through WIFI and data connection work fine and calling or receiving calls is no problem either.
I have tried reinstalling some Google play services with a GPS spoofer installed and all that but it doesn't seem to help.
I read about the 503L, because it's meant for the Asian market, has a different frequency for cell towers. Could this be the problem for the apps not being able to locate my device?
Are there Google services I should have installed for this service to work? (I have Playstore, Google now, mail and sync).
Is there a ROM (being) developed that i could use to 'Europeanize' my phone? (base language English, Google apps installed, frequency correction etc.)
I think there are various issues with this phone. I have the 7D-501U and I note that it too does not properly keep the location up to date. It also fails to run various services at startup, despite them being marked as "allow to run at startup". They can also get shut down if started manually. Basically, I think Huawei has been too aggressive with their power saving tricks.
