hyper rom camera - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

On the stock rom I always had my camera at 13mp and now that I flashed hyperdrive rom when i set it to 13mp it appears to cut off the edges of the picture when the stock camera didn't do this I don't believe?
Any suggestions/help?

I can't help, but I know someone will probably ask you which release of Hyperdrive and which kernel you're using.

I checked the measurements on the pics i took before and they were all the size of the 9mp setting not the 13mp setting. weird as I could have sworn I had it set on the 13mp. I wonder if when you turn the camera sideways it auto changed the setting to 9mp so it didn't cut anything off as I was taking the pic sideways.

I'm currently stock with root. The 13mp is 4:3 and will have black bars while 9.6mp is 16:9. Not sure if it helped but just clarifying.

Grainy Camera

My camera is viewing everything grainy that is dark / blackish, but once I take the photo it comes out almost fine but still a small amount of grainy looking colors but only in dark. This happens to all my camera apps, the ones in the rom i am using and the ones I downloaded from market
Could it be my Phone itself has a bad camera? (it was an exchanged phone) or could it be the rom?
Do you have the FFC mod? Mine is grainy in dark since I put the rev 2 ffc (no banding). Original camera was excellent.

Nope, just one off a 2.3.5 rom
I attached two pics, one is a photo of how the pictures look on my phone while the other is the actual .jpg file on the SD card, so I am not sure whats wrong
How was it on your rom before this current rom? From your posts I assume you have miui? You try another rom? The JPEG file looks fine to me, the screenshot of the screen (lol) looks like it has artifacts but that can be due to alot of things.

[Q] camera quality tw vs aosp

Ok so a couple of things.
I noticed any camera app on a TW rom has what I would describe as graining, I can see pixels constantly changing colour akin to watching a analolue tv signal. If I take photos this affects the photo also. It affects how clear the photo is, I have a photo of an object on my desk eg. that looks brilliant taken whilst was on AOKP. Will try to attach the photos to this post. On the camera on the AOKP rom, this graining is gone, its vanished. (shame the camera app is unstable). Taking a photo of the same object using any camera app on a TW rom has a much less satisfying result. It would seem whatever that driver is thats used on AOSP roms it does offer better quality. Or is it a setting that causes the graining?
Also a few times when usng the camera, it just closes itself, if I am right this is a rom problem? what would cause that behaviour usually? The closing itself only is happening since I switched back to neatrom, so may end up posting this 2nd question in the neatrom thread.

a update
I took a photo at lower res (as was too big) and then accidently seen all the graining was gone and picture clear again.
so it seems lowering the resolution of the photo does wonders.
so its related to higher pixel count and it appears, obviously one might say the lower resolution hides the problem, possibly. so eg. zooming on on a my 0.8mp 1024x768 picture so its same screen size as the 8mp pic has much higher detail.
I will if time restore my aokp nandroid and test 8pm photos again if I can.
I attached 2 pics, the usb_back is 8mp other is 0.9mp.
I've never seen what you refer to. Generally the tw camera is better quality because samsung didn't release their camera HAL source so its quality can't be reproduced

I put AOKP back on for more testing, showed some freinds and they picked out all AOKP pics as clearly better, extra options in the app (jpeg quality and more focus options as well as special affects) and the quality is simply better full stop.
the TW cam got ported for AOSP anyway.
so just flash the TW cam and u got the same quality. (theme / addons section in this forum)

This is on your device. Maybe you have a problem with your camera when on touchwiz.

where is it? and i want aosp on tw not other way round the tw camera gui is aweful so even if quality fixed i wouldnt like using it.
i brought a professional camera app which a few on here reccomended, great improvement over tW interface but imo not as good as AOSP interface and it closes by itself a lot. It also doesnt fix the quality issue and when I run the app on AOSP the quality is fixed so the quality seems related to the samsung camera driver not app.

since they part of the rom/kernel thats why I said I would try different rom.
I will also try a different kernel on same TW rom.

I will try it next time I got back to TW, still back on AOKP.
Yep. Im happier with aosp roms too

since I put siyah kernel on the AOKP rom the camera is stable. Might be coincidence but thats the situation at the moment.
well now nothing to fix on the quality.
on the latest 4.1.2 neatrom, the camera quality is good so was an issue with md4 build I guess.

Stock Camera Issues

My Camera experience on the S4 has been poor with Lag and out of focus pixes.
I'm on Pure Stock Unrooted MDK Dev Ed.
Any thoughts would be helpful.

Tried that and it seems not to make much difference on the shutter Lag side. Maybe on the focus its improved but it increases time to focus expecially indoor lighted pics.
Flash the Google Edition camera... Zero lag.

Galaxy S4 front facing camera choppy and very laggy!

Hello, I have a Verizon Galaxy S4. Pretty impressed with it, besides the fact the front facing camera seems cheap. It seems like the front facing camera fps or frame rate is horrible, and drops in low light. I know about about how some fps will drop blah blah blah. I'm just concerned. I tested my old HTC Rezound and Motorola Photon 4G's front facing camera's, and they kept a crispy, and fixed 30FPS in any condition in lighting, including almost pitch black! The S4 FPS is barley getting like.. 8FPS if that, and super choppy and blurry. In light, it's great of course. If it's not super bright, it's horrible.
Im running HyperDrive RLS 9.1 DeLuXe with stock ME7 kernel.
I don't understand why this is happening to such a hyped phone.
Does it have anything to do with my camera firmware?

Thank you, I will give this a shot. Can you DM or post a link of kernels that are compatible with my Hyperdrive RLS 9.1? What kernels are compatible with being flashed in safestrap?
Thank you very much for the quick reply man, I appreciate it. Really.
