Hey xda!
I just got this tablet yesterday.
Ever since it first booted, there's been terrible lag. Im planning on rooting and slapping on CM, but I'm just wondering. Is this lag normal? I mean even as I'm typing this message, the keyboard is lagging terribly.
And on a side note, is the cm nighties available in the development thread stable? Including the kernel?

No. It shouldn't be that bad. Root it and run stock deodexed. Works like a charm. Weird... Try a reset on it aswell. Just in case first boot when writing things to memory it may have got interrupted

Not real.
My P7510 is rooted but it hangs after I had booted it.
Maybe is the system problem, or some hack may cause the device to hang.

May i... You have to enable wallpaper quick render in your launcher settings to eleminate the lagg in cm
Settings > launcher > wallpaper quick render > enable.
Oc your tablet to 1400 Mhz in performance settings.
Performance settings are hidden, you can unhide them if you go to 'about tablet' settings and tap 7 times.. I think... On the build number,
But from my experience is that you don't need so much power so i stay on 1000-1200 Mhz unless i watch video's
The lagg should be pretty much over.

First thanks for your reply!
1. Yes, that's already been enabled by default.
2. I'm over clocked to 1.2. I guess I'll try OCing to 1.4.
The lag is not in the homscreen per se, it's more throughout the OS. Lockscreen, notifications, apps etc.

Replied.
Depends on which ROM I use. If I'm using a CM base ROM, then A1. Infamous ROM, infamous kernel.

Still Very laggy.
I'm not really sure what you guys are comparing the lag to?
I'm using a Galaxy Nexus and I can totally see the difference.
The only place where it's smooth is the Lockscreen. Everywhere else it's choppy, low framerate

He said he's not running official cm but i do :d well... The galaxy tab is way older than the google nexus, remember that this was one of the first decent tablets on the market 2 and a half years back, comparing a nexus with a gtab is like comparing a mouse with an elephant i think the 'lagg' what you mean is the 'lagg' what everyone has, ofcourse the gtab is slower than a nexus, but the gtab is terrible on a stock ROM, since CM, the tab has never been so fast, it can't compete to a nexus, but it can with alot of new devices out there with cm or cm based ROMs out there. And it's not like the tab hangs every 5 seconds like in stock

I've experienced the same thing. Mine is rooted on CM 10.1 nightly from a few weeks back. Even when I was religiously updating on the nightlies it is still very laggy. 2-3 seconds for the soft keyboard to come on or go away, 2-3 seconds for apps to even think about loading, choppy transitions. It is extremely noticeable and frustrating.

Original Thread:

I have a fix for the lagginess in builds from the past week and a half or so. The culprit is the surface flinger library. It is the android compositing system and some changes recently made to it are responsible for the significant lag in recent builds. Most noticeable spot is if you hit the home button if you have the notification drawer down. It becomes extremely laggy without this patch. Scrolling is also less smooth whenever multiple things on the screen are being drawn. This fixes all those issues.
Just flash this in cwm or whatever recovery you choose. Should work on all cm10 builds and cm10 based roms like paranoid android.
http://www.mediafire.com/?dbi25egli253q1b
I'll give it a shot in the latest nightly of CM10 in a few minutes.
Cwm aborted the flash as it was a bad zip. Is there an md5 to check?
Sent from my Sensation using xda app-developers app
Can't say how it flashes from CWM (I put the lib in the CM10 zip and flashed it like that), but the fix does seem to work. I did:

Then forget about both ICS and JB and go with GB. Any variant will do.
ICS/JB ROMs are just too unfinished yet to be a reliable daily driver, IMO. People are woking hard on them though, so there is no doubt they will one day become as reliable as good old GB.
Agreed.

This is a very accurate summary of where we stand. I'm still running Nottachtrix 1.3.1 even though Nottach left the Atrix over a month ago, just because everything works on it. Bluetooth, wifi, HWA, Ubuntop, all cameras, and even a decent selection of themes for both android and linux.
But with the new leak libs, there is sure to be a fantastic CM9/10 ROM that takes advantage of them. We just have to be patient.
Hi
If you're not using thoroughly your phone, the CM10 form Epinter is now reliable enough for a daily use.
I was using CM7 since months, and after trying CM10 last week, i'm still using it and have found no real limitations for a basic usage.
I'd recommend you to keep a GB based rom if you want to have the most reliable system and if video recording is a primary need for you.
Just my $.02: I don't even use the "latest" GB 2.3.7 ROM: I've returned to Neutrino 2.6 EE (the latest is 2.91 at this writing). CM 7.2 RC1 was the most stable + efficient ROM from the CM gurus for my Atrix. I charge my phone once every two or three days too.
Think about driving a car that everyone laughs at that's never needing to go to the shop. Gits ya there, gits ya back, reliably and without anyone really paying attention to it, and it just goes and goes and holds its own against everyone else. Newest doesn't always mean best; trustworthiness does.
Epinter's CM10 worked OK for me despite the few well known bugs.
You might give the brand new AtrICS ROM a shot. It's hard to believe that it could already be as stable as it claims to be, but with working hardware acceleration, it should have some bugs fixed as compared to CM10.

I switched from epinter's CM10 to AtrICS today and found it to be a fairly usable. You trade some features for others.
I prefer the interface of CM10 to AtrICS, but AtrICS feels really snappy thanks to the HWA. I'll probably get used to ICS after a while. The Camera works well, but, like others I noticed that after switching from the back camera to the front, there was some corruption on the right side of the screen. Going into Camera Settings and unchecking then rechecking the Widescreen box fixes this. There are problems with the unlock screen of AtrICS; it can be slow to appear when you press the power button and I have seen the screen turn on for a split second before turning right back off. If you let the phone go into a deep sleep, you may see a black screen for a minute, in my case the unlock screen did eventually appear. I've had one reboot right after closing a bunch of apps running in the background then trying to open a browser.
WiFi works great with AtrICS and mobile data feels faster than I remember.
My mobile gone hot after a few minute use AtrICS, and experienced network lost. The phone also hot with epinter 's version.
Restored TopSmart1.3. GB has the stablity I trust.

Does your camcorder autofocus very often (around 1-5 seconds)? Mine does with Somebody's CM10, I'm just wondering if it just me.
Hey all,
Last night I rooted my DNA and installed TWRP recovery after using the latest Moonshine method to get S-OFF. I first installed the CM 10.1 Unofficial rom that I found under the DNA Original Android Development section, and that was a disaster, as it dropped frames constantly and was super buggy. I even did an Antutu test which it struggled through and scored a 11000... Then I went ahead and flashed one of the newer Sense 5 ROMs from the DNA Android Development forum and that one only faired slightly better with performance. I find it odd that they're running so terribly. Did I do something wrong in the process? I wiped the cache and dalvic cache and did a factory reset and all. I thought that with the DNA's specs, I wouldn't have this trouble...

I definitely know what you mean. Trying out Sense 5 currently. I love Sense 5, but the drop in performance in relation to stock can be glaring at times. Especially opening and closing the app drawer.
This has been my experience on many custom ROMs over the years. I just think some people are more tolerant.

If you are on the Stock Samsung ROM and haven't rooted your mobile, then go to developer options and modify the animation values
1. Settings-> developer options-> and Window animation scale and Transition Animation scale -> change both of those to 0.5x (or 0 for both, for instant reactions). This will give you some speed.
If you want even faster ROM, you may have to root your mobile and flash a custom ROM.
I tried Cyanogenmod and it is very fast. You may not experience any lag. Note that you will lose some Samsung provided features with it like Svoice etc. They have a stable release 10.1.3 ie. jellybean 4.2.
This is based on my personal experience and there are plenty of ROM's to try in the XDA. Try reading forums, reviews from the other users and make a decision.
Try CM11 by temasek. I'm using it. It's much faster than stock firmware.

Did you encrypt your device?
If so, this might be the problem since Samsung missed to update their Linux kernel for a while.
