[Q] Paranoid Android's Halo or Samsung TW Multi-View? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Just a quick poll to see what you guys think....I personally don't like Halo at all I feel there is too little functionality as far as moving the window and resizing the window...it is not true multitasking as far as I'm concerned...I definitely prefer TW multi-view....what do you guys think?

I really like HALO and what it will be when it is finished. As of right now we don't really have the 100% finished product. I liked the way it would actually pop up over the other app but wouldn't block the other app. I still prefer multi view over HALO but I think, from what we have seen of HALO thus far, that it'll be better than TW multi view when its finished.

I have the best of both worlds.
I have Multi-Window, and I have this cool thing called Floating Notifications, which is pretty much almost exactly like Halo from what I've seen (or at least for what I use it for)

Its very very similar, there was either a post about it here or a article on the front page of XDA and I can't remember which. It is similar in some ways but is very different. Its still a damned good app.

But doesn't floating notifications take u to the full app if you want to reply to an email or text?
Halo will be great when it's finished for that purpose but of course it doesn't have the same functionality as Multi-Window. Although I think the best implementation of MW is the tablet style with resizeable Windows.

It takes you to the full app yes, that is not what HALO is intended to do though if you watched the second set of HALO videos. It is intended to pop up in a half sized box that only covers the middle of what you're doing while leaving the edges of the app uncovered so you can switch back quickly. There are also going to be other features, I'd bet, and it wouldn't surprise me if it turned into multiple resizable windows that you could launch and place anywhere ion the screen. That's what I'm hoping it'll turn in to in the end.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using XDA Premium HD app

Yes that's what I'm saying. floating notifications is the same thing as a stock status bar pretty much. The whole point of Halo is to be able to truly handle notifications while in an app. I'm not a developer but I'd imagine if they can get social apps into halo it's possible to expand it to all apps. like I said, I think the resize able windows in touch wiz tablets is the ultimate culmination of this, unfortunately there isn't a stable rom capable of it for the vzw gn2 yet.

There isn't a stable DD that I have found yet capable of resizable multi windows but it won't be too much longer, there was discussion of it in one of the threads not too long ago and someone was talking about making a flashable zip that would work on all TW ROMs.
And honestly I think HALO will be better when they finish it and add all the options to it they have in store. They have released the code as of today but it is still far from being finished.

Actually there was an app released shortly after halo was released that did this on any ROM. I don't remember the name but I know it's definitely out there.
Edit: Just found it while looking through my previously installed apps, it's called floating notifications and it can be found in the Play Store.

Difference between AOSP and non-AOSP rom

I saw a thread comparing both beans rom and cleanrom. Beans being AOSP and cleanrom non-AOSP. What is the not so technical definition of AOSP and what are the benefits and downfalls of both AOSP and non-AOSP roms?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
Technically they are both touchwiz.
Beans has an AOSP look.
Neither are true AOSP.
AOSP is android a it was meant to be.
Everything else has add-ons on top of android. Touchwiz. Sense. Blur. Etc.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
Is there any "true" AOSP roms for the note 2?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
CM10 under Original Development, and AOKP, Pacman, and Paranoid Android under Development are all AOSP(Android Open Source Project)
These ROMs are still in their alpha stage though on this device, so be sure to read through the threads to find out what's working and what's not. They are actually excellent builds for only being alpha, but they do have bugs that may make it unusable for some as a daily driver. Just give them some time though, they will be rock solid before too long.
The cool thing about any AOSP ROM is they all have tons of customization options, from status bar clock and battery tweaks, to lock screen modifications, built in performance options, System and per app DPI changes, etc.
The main downside would be it's no longer TouchWiz, so you're going to lose some of your motion options like swipe screen to do screen capture, direct call, smart stay, and will also lose the S-Pen tricks such as air hover, long pressing on the screen while clicking button for screen shot (which you can immediately draw on and share) and all of the other neat little things TouchWiz integrated, but there are a lot of apps on the play store that can replace these functionalities, and the pen still works fine as a normal stylus.

4.2.2<4.1.2?

Am I the only one who thinks Google messed up many android features in 4.2?
1) Notification power widgets . now you need a 2nd panel for that.
2) AOKP allows revert to old style power widgets, but they are laid out poorly and less elegant compared to <4.2
3) Lockscreen widgets. Can someone PLEASE explain how this is faster/,more efficient than simply setting a lockscreen target? For example, soundhound ID now can be a lockscreen target. If you set it as a lockscreen widget, it takes more swipes/effort to get to.
.if you agre e or have any helpful workarounds for googles ridiculous decisions, I'd love to hear. Much thanks, all.

I 100% agree.
The lock screen widgets, very sadly, remind me of windows 8. There is no need to have x amount of lock screens. Press the power button and move the lock ring to what ever app you wanna open.
Aren't the notification toggles CM based tho?

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but if using cm10.1 you can enable the old style toggles in settings/system/notification drawer, check power widget and configure. You can also disable lockscreen widgets using an app from the Playstore named lockscreen policy. That pretty much solves your issues. Also, as mentioned those toggles were from cm not Google. 4.2+ are the first builds to have toggles.
Sent from my LTEvo
At first I preferred 4.1.2 but after using 4.2.2 for awhile I really like it. I ignore the lockscreen widgets and with the toggles set to pull down from either right or left on the status bar it works really well.
I figured I had to adapt to stay current and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. :victory:

i just use CMs notification widgets its the same as the old one and i make sure the other ones dont pop up. as for lockscreen widgets. i dont use them much but i do like widgetlocker. that thing has so many different addons for notifications its pretty badass. better than the old one of just clock and weather and calendar. i dont use much of the other widgets for anything else though. you can set the lockscreen to always have targets as the primary when waking up so you dont have push the lock button then target what you want to open. then it ends up just working like 4.1.2 just you have a better lockscreen clock/notifications display.

Honestly i feel as 4.2 simply added more "sweets" to 4.1, and we have the choice to ignored these features.i love the toggles, one of the features im impatiently waiting for in the Evo 4.2 Sense 5 update. As far as lock screen widgets go i use one and only 1 widget, daily motivational quotes widget i disable all other ones (Even the camera widget), but for each their own. we could have updates like IOS where we get little to no new eyecandy to play and show off *Shurgs*

Possiblity of a Hybrid Rom sense 4+ with 5?

I was wandering if there is a way to make a hybrid rom or if a dev would be willing to try to make one. I'm just suggesting because I like sense 5 but I do miss the sense 4+ widgets they removed and the carousel home screen transitions. Also being able to move your home screens around to a different spot. Everything else I like is from sense 5. If maybe someone could port those over or make a sense 4+/5 hybrid. Just a suggestion.

given the massive changes to sense, it would be a lot of work to try and integrate sense5 features into a stock rom or vice versa
given the dependency changes as well (fusion, assets, rosie/prism, etc) you would be asking for issues
not to say its impossible...but i dont see the amount of time needed and the probability of it not even panning out really being worth a dev's time....then again, some people seem to have 100 hours a week to work on stuff, so who knows
Unless you wanted to pay a lot for a developer to do this, it's doubtful. You could always download both versions and make your own hybrid. Granted this would be simple things such as icons and such (already available to download on Viper DNA) , unless you know how to code.

thats not a hybrid rom...thats a sense 4+ rom that has sense5 icons/images/fonts etc
a true *hybrid* would mix the frameworks/apks/widgets and so on...not just mimic the look
i remember the days of the hybrid sense 2/3 roms on the OG Inc...good times.
That ROM would probably take up a lot of system space since they call on different system commands..
I like this idea a lot, although i think the amount of work makes it not really worth the time someone would have to spend on it. There are some things I miss about sense 5. For example, why did they remove all the customizability? No skins? I feel like they're kind of pulling an apple on us. Regardless, I love sense 5. I keep switching back and forth though because I do miss 4+ sometimes.

Getting JB Style, Keeping TW Features - Hyperdrive & Nova

I'm assuming I'm not alone here, as I have seen many people across the forums saying that they have either already gone to, or are thinking of flashing an AOSP ROM, and are worried about losing all of those Samsung Goodies (Like hover, air gestures, eye control, TW Camera, etc.) They generally also seem to want the customizability of a custom rom, as well. So, let's discuss how people have gone about getting that JB feel on a TW ROM.
The way I currently have this set up is with the Hyperdrive 5.7 ROM as a base. With just that, you get a smoother, faster, and enormously feature-packed TW ROM. The customization you can accomplish with this ROM is very impressive, especially considering it is TouchWiz. On top of this, I'm running - yep, you guessed it - Nova Launcher.
Nova Launcher is, in my opinion, the obvious choice for getting stock JB feel on any device. Nova allows the important customizations made to Hyperdrive to continue working, while adding the JB feel right on top. I've also run the script from within Hyperdrive to enable the Nexus 4 Softkeys, and I've shut off the lights on the capacitive keys on the device itself. This makes them completely invisible, so the device looks much more like a Nexus device, if you like that sort of thing.
What do you guys think? What other options are out there? I'm looking to give some insight to users who may want to get this type of feel on their S4, while also getting some feedback or better/different ways of achieving this. Good luck, and happy theming!
looks good just get rid of the nav bar

Yeah. So the dialer and incoming calls are both part of the TW base. Nova launcher is just that; a home/launcher replacement. Just as you said. Though I am sure there are theming options for these things through third party methods, since many people dislike TW appearances.
I am just trying to get more of an AOSP look/feel, doesn't need to be completely coated in JB.

I fully understood the point of the thread which is why I suggested Eclipse ROM. It's Touchwiz based and includes all the Touchwiz gimmicks as well as the TW camera. It's most certainly NOT an AOSP ROM as you seem to think it is. It's just a very well themed Touchwiz ROM.

You know, its really easy to post a reply without being passive-aggressive about it. I made a mistake and was unaware that Eclipse was Touchwiz, I was misinformed. Now that I have been home and had a chance to look at it, it looks like a really great option! Thanks for posting it here.

Eclipse is a themed TouchWiz ROM with a couple AOSP parts. It is not built on AOSP base. I believe it has the air features and TW camera, as well as many others.

Thanks for this. My bad, I was misinformed on Eclipse at some point. I checked it out a bit and it looks like a cool option to mix TW and AOSP features.

You and I have our wires crossed. I was responding to the OP, which references a combo of hyperdrive rom and nova launcher.
I wasn't referring to the Eclipse ROM, which I see has AOSP dialer instead of TW dialer.

Obviously he wouldn't have known since you quoted him.

The main portion of it is DashClock. I like the accuweather service more than Yahoo though, so I used overlapping widgets in Nova Launcher. The weather widget on top of Dashclock is a 1x1 weather from Beautiful Widgets.

this isnt really a [MOD] or a [GUIDE] this is more or less someones review of a ROM and a couple quick customizations in an app that's well known.... very misleading post

Where/how do you run the script to make the Nexus soft buttons appear?

I am no longer running this ROM, but it is an included script with Hyperdrive. If you go to sbreen's included script installer, it was somewhere in a media folder and you just run it from there. He posted the instructions on the first page of the Hyperdrive thread somewhere.

[Q] Any way to add on screen nexus style buttons?

There's probably a thread for this somewhere but I haven't been able to find it. I am looking to add nexus style on screen softbuttons to my razr. I am running paranoid android 4.2 beta pa_spyder-userdebugKVT49L. Is there a universal way of doing this though an app or a device specific mod?
Thanks

You mean the navigation bar. I think its already present in PA Roms. You need to enable it in settings.
I've searched both google and this form as well as dug though my settings. I can't find it. Is there something in the build prop that could be edited?

Have you checked out pie control? Or checked to see if your ROM supports it? Don't mean to put words in neo.ank mouth but, it might be what he is talking about.
Many ROM's support it.
One thing you have to remember is that you are dealing with a device that still has hardware buttons
Slim kat has an option for it but I had a lot of issues with slim. I've always preferred asop ROMs but I'd like the full google experience. Pie control is OK but I'd prefer something persistent.

Hard buttons are persistent..... I mean, with a launcher like Nova or Apex.. something to that effect, and the right .png files you could get the same effect modifying your dock but really, all you will be doing is taking up screen real estate.
