[Q] S4 TouchWiz breaks apps! - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have a couple of apps that I've used in previous phones including a Galaxy S3 that won't work on my S4.
One is a game so who really cares, the other is one I need, it's Android Pro Widgets Bookmarks.
I install it, configure it and no bookmarks show up, the field remains blank!
If I load CM (which I'm currently running) it works perfectly but any TouchWiz ROM gives me the blank field. WTF????
I've tried stock, CleanROM, etc.
Anyone got any ideas or know of a good bookmark widget?
TIA!

Don't like the widget included with the phone? It's decent but I'm sure there are better's out there.

In the widget drawer it's called "Bookmarks".

Thanks, found it. It doesn't allow customizing but it does work.
Hmmmmm.......
Back to CM I guess.
Sorry to be indirect, the line above means that app just doesn't do what I want.
I do appreciate your pointing it out to me!

What is buddies now?

What exactly is Buddies Now? I'm on JI2 and it's showing as 'installed' but it's not in my app drawer. I'm considering removing it but want to make sure it's not a background service that I want to keep.
It's bloatware garbage that comes with the phone. Perfectly safe to remove.
So it has no functions? Lol.
Will it break the Facebook account sync for contacts if I remove it?
Nope its one of the Samsung Widgets that come with the phone. If you dont use it or don't use TouchWiz as your launcher its useless.

Speaking of useless, do you know of any alternatives that would be a good replacement? I posted in this thread here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10460755#post10460755
Looking for suggestions.

[Q] new to Droid from BB some questons for u all

Also is there a program the lets you organize apps better. Their everywhere!!!
And how do you make the Voice commands work off of the double tap. The rep made it my search button holding it 2 sec. How did he do that?

I'll do what I can to help you out.
Best email program - I only have exp with Gmail & TW email. I like them both
Organize programs - AppZorter
sync music - there are a bunch of software that can do it: Kies, Samsung Media something, Media Monkey. Google it & you'll probably get more results than I listed
here is a list for you buddy on what to remove and not to...

to get the apps sorted better i prefer using a different launcher. Launcher pro is the one i use but any of them will put them in alphabetical. Cant believe samsung dont have an option in touchwiz to do that, seems quite a basic omission.
email i just use the stock one but k9 email is also pretty good.
not sure what you mean by the voice commands, you should just tap the home button twice and the voice control screen comes up
Best email: K9 Mail.

point is the standard everyday user shouldnt have to come to xda and download a modded theme just to get the app drawer showing alphabetical. Its a pretty standard request from everyone and a pretty big omission from samsung.

true and i fully agree with you and the way you sort folders in touchwiz is pretty **** compare to the go launcher..but still i think the update of touchwiz fixes all of that now

Cant seem to find internet icon

So this is damn simple, i bought my galaxy s2 a few months ago and since then i can not find the Internet icon to access the browser (only way i can open androids browser is by searching something on google widget)
I even upgraded to ICS 4.0.3 and i still cant find it... any ideas ?
Thanks.
no1 knows ? am i the only one with this problem ?
If you're on ICS, do yourself a favour and head to the Google Play Store, and download Chrome Beta. It should appear in your apps list once downloaded and it kicks butt compared to the stock browser.
First off, this is a forum, not an instant messaging client. Not everyone is on it at the same time. So be a little more patient. 2 hours is NOT a long time for a forum.
Second, you don't give any information about the actual version of device or firmware that you are on.
Third, if you are on a stock firmware, it's called "internet", not "browser", and it should be in the dock.

There's a dozen different models of Galaxy SII.
Is it an GT-I9100? GT-I9100T/M/P? GT-I9100G? SGH-I777? SGH-I727? SGH-T989? SPH-D710? GT-I9210/T? SHV-E110S/E120S?
Also, 4.0.3; does that mean you are on a stock Samsung ICS firmware? Is the internet icon NOT in your dock? Is it not in your app drawer? (I don't think the app drawer is alphabetized by default)
Are you using a third party launcher, like Apex or Nova, etc?

Ok.... so you could try to create a homescreen shortcut to it first. Long press on an empty space of your homescreen, and select Shortcut, then Application, see if you can find "Internet". (that's how it is in Gingerbread, I can't imagine it would be that different in ICS - but if it is, you should be able to figure it out)

See my post above.
Are you using the TouchWiz launcher? If so, try arranging your app drawer to list view and see if it turns up. That will alphabetize all your apps.

Hmm... I guess you could create a bookmark to whatever you want your homepage to be, and name it Internet...

Samsung APK

I have recently gotten a Samsung Galaxy S3 and realty like the calendar and s memo apps, hoping for consistancy between devices, makes it much easier when adding appointments and finding appointments when the calendar looks and behavior is the same. Has anyone successfully installed these apks to the t300tf and know where I can download them. Thanks

Doubtful.
Those apps rely on the Touchwiz framework that comes with Samsung Roms, and so won't work others, like AOSP.
Maybe check out S3 forums, see if anyone was able to port them.

there are always ways to do it.
i was able to run the TW launcher,S voice and a couple other things from the S3 on my nexus.
i personally haven't see it done though. you can always try and throw it in system/app and see if it works.
I have the handwriting keyboard do you think it will work. I'll try and report back.

Mozyman's right, most of this relies on Sammy's TW framework. (Same reason you can't run that stuff on a CM10 GS3). Google "Touchwiz on Asus Transformer." Some work has been done I think to port TW to the ASUS, but you're going to have to run the TW launcher. Pity, because I too love the GS3 Calendar widget and haven't found anything quite like it.

Man, this link worked fine for me
Locks my tablet up when I try to use it.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA Premium HD app
it works, but doesnt seem to response to pinch and zoom. i need to double tap to zoom.
anyone has the same problem?
This is by miles the best ebook app on Android, presentation wise at least. It replicates the sensation of reading a real book rather well. No other ebook readers on Google Play can even hold a candle to Samsung's in-house ebook reader.
we should give out a rewards if anyone make it work without stock ICS ROM or TW. What I meant if running pure ICS ROM (CM9) or JB.
so far it does installs, but always crashes when you tried import.
It is not bad but it is not my preferred reader app. There is no way to disable page flip animations. There is no way to set a default font size. The minimum font size is too large for my liking.
Hello
It works on a P5100 but a question. How can I reset (clear) the bookmarks?
Thanks in advance,

The simple answer is No. You need to use Samsung stock ICS or with Touch Wiz. the book reader needs Samsung's frame work
If this answer helps Please click my Thanks button.

Technically this is correct and incorrect.
The app itself will work but you need Samsung's MyFiles app to import books into the ebook app, which runs off the TouchWizUX framework.
If somebody could find a way to get MyFiles to work outside TouchWiz, then in theory it should work perfectly.
Thanks for the link, i will try this
Is it even possible to install this on a galaxy s3 non-rooted? And if yes, somebody could explain? Thanks in afvancd

Here is a page describing how to remove the dependencies on TouchWiz: Link
I would try it but I've tried many times to decompile and recompile ICS apps with no success.
My advice to anyone is to get My Files working out of touchwiz, then ebooks would work by default.
This app works on my nexus 7 running non touchwiz framework.tho clicking on import causes it to crash
It's possible to use ebook without touchwizz fw.
Import does not work but if you open the epub file with a file browser, it does not crash.
thank you very much. i am able to install and it is working perfectly well. BTW i am running toldo jellybean rom ics v6
