[Q] System UI has stopped ViperDNA 1.3.1 - HTC Droid DNA

Went through the install of Moonshine today and ViperDNA 1.3.1. Finished installing all of my programs and started tweaking settings. I'm now getting "Unfortunately, system UI has stopped" messages, and have lost the status bar. I've tried several reboots, but no luck. Is there anything else I can do to get this working again other than another full wipe and reinstall?

I've seen that error when I change the dpi below 400 when using rosie.

You can try a dirty-flash of the same ROM, maybe to reinstall the System-UI apk.. It sounds like there's an error that resulted of a tweak you changed.

Do you remember what tweaks you did?
I remember having this problem when I changed the DPI too much too.
Sent from my DNA using Tapatalk 2

I don't recall doing anything to DPI adjustments. I did add Nova Launcher, but it worked fine for at least an hour or so while I was installing apps.
Anyhow, I tried the dirty flash, but that didn't fix it. I wiped and reinstalled and everything seems to be fine now.

I just managed to crash the system UI again and can't seem to get it to work again after a reboot. I had clicked on venom tweaks, then profiles. I clicked on tweak defaults and then the status bar disappeared and the "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped" message came up. Any ideas how to fix this? If it involves a reinstall (again) of the ROM, I think it is going to be time to try something else.

Format system. When I was getting system ui FC I went into recovery and formatted system. Seemed to fix the issue. I've included that step in my flash routine when flashing a new ROM now

System is formatted as part of the ROM install.

There has been two additional posts to the ViperDNA thread in the developer section that ran into the same problem I did by going into tweak deafults. Unfortunately, I have too few posts to be able to add a "me too" reply at this time. One person fixed by doing a TWRP restore, but the only backup I have is of the stock before I installed Viper. Still would like to find a way to fix this without formatting and reinstalling everything a third time.

Format system, wipe cache and dalvik, flash the ROM again (which will again wipe system) then see if it comes up, if not you're good and if it does then its something they set in data which means a tweak file or something is there which should be able to be deleted. If its the latter that's why a factory reset was needed. Its been forever since I run sense or viper but I think they make a directory on the sdcard, good place to look.

I'm getting the same thing only I'm on CarbonROM. I had just let the phone download all my apps from the market and then after a reboot it greets me with the "System UI has stopped". I think it may be the app settings restoring causing a problem on my end but I'm not sure.
I love what little I've seen of the ROM though lol

Like others have said, wipe everything and try the install again. I got this during my first install of the ROM even though I did a clean wipe, but the 2nd time around it's been fine for me. I've only been using it for a few days though.

Do I need to use the "format data" option in TWRP? I went into the advanced wipe section and selected all of the options in there (twice), then installed the ROM. I skipped setting up accounts and all of the typical new setup options and went straight to quick settings, venom tweaks, profiles, tweaks defaults and system UI crashed again.

From my reading, I didn't see anything to be gained by formatting data, so I've wiped and reinstalled again. Just about have everything setup, then this time I will hurry up and get a good TIbackup and nandroid made before I find a way to break it again

[Q] For the love of God, WHAT HAVE I DONE??!!

So I've been happily running Calkulin/Clemsyn v.5 forever and have even talked some mates through their own installations.
While doing just that over the phone, I booted into CW to better walk this guy through the steps. I took care not to "select" any of the recovery commands, I thought, and only ran "reboot system now."
After a lengthier-than-usual boot animation, my tab opened to "force close" for every app. Info shows I still have Calk/Clem and all apps still live in my app drawer.
What's my best (shortest?) way back?
You didnt do anything wrong. The force closing is a known issue. Here is what you should have done when you first got your gtab.
1 install cwm
2 partition 2048/0
3 flash rom
You missed #2.
Thanks for your response.
Actually, I had partitioned to those parameters when originally flashing the ROM (and had even RE-partitioned at a later date while troubleshooting).
For the (Google) record, I went to CWM and wiped Dalvik cache then fixed permissions. One or both of those measures got back most functionality (with a lot of application data and system preferences missing). These I restored from Titanium backup.
I'm thinking the Fix Permissions did the trick. I read somewhere if you got FCs to run that.
Fix permissions in CW fixed the force close issue for me and many other people.

[Q] Titanium Backups Batch function not working

I have always used ROM Manager to do everything, but seeing that might not be the best way to do things..I have been having some other problems with restoring, and talked about it on another forum, but can't post the link here yet.
So, my nightlys said it is time to upgrade, so I am going to completely back everything up with TB, and fire it all up to dropbox. All of my system settings are 100% the way I want them... I also clicked the beta migration option in the preferences, hoping that would help me.
Step 1 - Backup all user apps + system Data
Step 2 - Sync to Dropbox
Step 3 - Boot into Clockwork Mod Recovery, and do everything manually, not through ROM Manager
Step 4 - Clear cache and Dalvik
Step 5 - Run zip from SD Card
This time, it seemed like everything went as planned. When I started the phone back up, all the apps were in the same spot, and wallpaper was the same. Although, the first time, when the screen timed out, I couldn't turn it back on. Pulled the battery, and all is working fine now.
Step 6- went into TB and did a batch restore of all apps and data, but only clicked the green items. From reading somewhere else, it is only wise to do the green items, not the red, so that is what I did. Then reboot for all to take effect.
This is where I am confused. None of my data is restored. For example, I use K-9 Mail, and the settings aren't restored by the batch. But, if I go to that app, and hit the restore data, then it restores it fine. So, for me to do all my apps, the batch function isn't working, I have to go through and do 15-20 apps manually.
So, what am I doing wrong here? Why isn't the batch operation working properly for me?
Edit - Something else I noticed that didn't restore properly was any of my ring tones. Not a huge deal, but I thought might be worth mentioning in this dilemma.
So I assume you are on CM7 as you refer to nightlies.
You say that you wipe cache/dalvick cache and install. Then when you reboot all your apps are in the right place?
Then why on earth would you want restore your apps on top of the existing apps with TB? Maybe that is causing the problem. AFAIK upgrading with a nightly shouldn't touch your installed apps.
Did you check the app settings before restoring with TB?
As for the ringtones, I always had that problem when using CM7, just got used to fixing them after installing each nightly.
Hope this helps.
What version of TB are you using? I was having a similar problem doing restores on v3.9.0.1 and was having problems doing batch recovery with my SGS2. The status bar would come up but wouldn't successfully finish. I then upgraded to 4.0.0.0 and everything seems to work.. might give that a try if you're using an older version.

Yes, sorry, I am running CM7, but using the nighties.
As far as the apps, that's why I think I am doing something wrong. Last time was the first time everything was there, every other update, it was like I was starting off with a new phone. No app, no data, nothing. A brand new fresh start.
I will try it again in a few minutes and hope for the best..
Thanks for helping out with this one..

I am currently using the Pro, 4.0.2. It just seems that I have to refresh all the data for each app by themselves, but all at once won't work.
Upgrading my nightly now, so keeping my fingers crossed that it will work.

Why is my lockscreen not showing up?

I am running BAMF gingerbread and for some reason, my lockscreen does not appear whenever i wake my phone up. I tried running other gingerbread roms and the same problem happened. I always wipe the phone plus the cache.
Why isn't my lockscreen showing up?
I have kinda that prob when I reboot my CM7 rom while plugged in.

Do you think its a problem with gingerbread roms or just my phone?
You checked all the settings? Tablet tweaks? For cm7 its under tablet tweaks but Idk if your rom has that.
Yes I checked all the settings, nothing about a lockscreen option.
Hmm I will check out some info. You can always download a lockscreen app if it doesn't get resolved.
It works sometimes and then sometimes it doesn't, I don't get it. Thank you for the help man, appreciate it.
Not a problem. I would try booting to recovery and wiping cache. Then reboot. See if that works. You can reflash rom and clear cache/delvik cache if you need. Good luck. Hope it is resolved.
I've wiped all the cache and the data. The last rom I was running had this problem, and the one before that it would sometimes not come up but not as bad as this.
I have no idea what the problem could be.
I realize you said that you wipe data and cache before installing but are you by any chance restoring any system data with TitaniumBackup? Restoring some system related stuff (red or green. I think it's the green Settings Storage one but I haven't looked into it personally.) has been known to cause issues such as the lockscreen, home and search keys not working.

Nope, I don't even have titaniumbackup on my phone.
it is a gingerbread problem, you can either reflash your rom to get it back or use a car dock to unlock it and change your lockscreen the change it back,if it is not there use rootexplorer to copy it from the rom to your system/apps folder set permissions reboot then change it back, just happens that the lock screen disappears never got an answer as to why but that is how I have fixed it everytime

cognition 777 com.android.phone force close

Hi,
I loaded Cognition 777 rc onto SGS2 i777 from the latest Cognition X2 beta 4 and got trapped in a com.android.phone force close-relaunch-force close loop. So I went back to beta 4, and loaded just the 11132011 kernel. That worked fine, so I tried loading C777 again. Same issue.
I am back on beta 4 with the 11132011 kernel and all's well. I have seen some discussion in other forums about dealing with com.android.phone FC. But I wonder if it is a c777-specific issue because I've not had the problem with previous Cognition revs.
Thoughts? Thank you very much!
Mike
I have that problem, too. I think we had to wipe it beforehand, but yeah, not sure...
Had the same issue when I attempted to flash from Serendipity 8 just to check it out. Problem went away after wiping from CWM then flashing.

Thanks to both of you. I wiped from CWM and then flashed - and it did go away. But it came back after I restored my apps and data. Tried restoring from CWM, then wiped again and restored with Titanium. I guess this latest rev conflicts with one my apps for some reason? I don't think I've got anything terribly exotic, but who knows?
I guess my options are: 1) load apps one at a time to isolate the problem child or 2) see if it goes away with the next rev ...
Don't restore all the data. Like, don't restore stuff like the phone application or some system data stuff related the phone. Call history and stuff is alright, but yeah, just go through it rather than just restoring everything.
What are you restoring? User apps are always good. System settings will cause problems. It sounds like you're restoring the call log or phone settings, use another app to backup sms and call log.
You two were right. I'd restored all apps and all data, including system data. That was the problem. It's all good now. Thanks for setting me straight.

[Q] Android upgrading apps & Whatsapp problems

Ever since moving up to JB 4.2.2 from ICS 4.0.3, I always get this "Android is upgrading apps" message everytime I reboot. Is this normal?
Not sure if its related but I get a lot of "corrupt messages" error in whatsapp sometimes after a reboot. This makes me lose some messages prior to the reboot as I have to restore from the backup (whatsapp only backs up messages at 4am everyday) and its getting real annoying, have gotten this error about 4-5 times in about 2 weeks so far.
I am using CarbonROM v1.7 (offical stable), and Dorimanx's kernel, from 9.14 to 9.30, 9.31, 9.32, and now 9.33 (I get the most errors in this version).
Would appreciate it if anyone could help me out! Can't find any relevant info after searching (or maybe I suck at searching).

the upgrading apps message isn't an issue, it occurs when any dalvik operations are running, or also optimisations (wheel align, zipalign, sqlite, detailing, etc.)
as to the corrupt messages error, i'm not sure at all, sounds like sd card rw errors in boot

So.. what should I do to get rid of that error? Any possible solutions you can think of?
Fully wipe and reflash Rom. That should get rid of problems. If continue to do this change Rom.

I'm trying to avoid that, haha. It was doing fine initially, then after I flashed Dori's kernel after about 1-2 weeks of use, it started popping up. I used Hawker's wipe scripts so it should be pretty clean.

For your backup issue of Whatsapp... Just click on that " backup conversations " tab. Yes its given that the backups occur at 4:00 am but that's the automatic backup. Tap that box and it backs up real time
Go Bk to stock kernel if dori is upgrading all the time. well the message. Reflash Rom no wipe will give you stock kernel Bk
