Howdy folks
I'm running the most recent venom...no problems there. However I'm trying to get wifi tether for root users running on this thing and I'm not getting far. My devices can initiate a connection to the incredible however I can't seem to get the connecting device to show up in access control to finalize and allow access to the internet. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

SOLUTION.
enable wifi driver reloading for anyone that is attempting to install... I can't find instructions guiding this anywhere so here it is.

Dear Members, I have searched and read several threads on this, but don't seem to find the exact answer I am looking for. I have an unlocked HTC Aria (AT&T Branded) currently running on Android 2.1. I am not particularly interested in changing the ROM as the phone does what I need (Calls, Messages, E-Mails, and Web Browsing). However I would like to also be able to do BlueTooth Tethering over to an Archos 70 IT tablet that I use for all the rest. I notice that the apps that would do this, all require ROOT. My question is, if I can ROOT my phone ONLY in order t be able to install any of these BT Tethering Apps? Do I still have to install a ROM, or will ROOTING not affect anything else?
I appreciate you comments and any suggestions that you might have.
Thank you very much.
No you can root and leave the stock rom in place.

Thanks mtnlion!
Ok! So I rooted my device and installed WIFI Tethering. The program does start on my Aria and the wi-fi signal is picked up by my notebook, however it shows limited connectivity (basically no internet). Unless someone has any feedback, I would now assume that it is an issue of my phone not connecting to the network, however I have tried the web browser on my phone and it does work, I also tried BT Tethering but both devices will show "paired but not connected", and can't get passed this step, so any comments again will be much appreciated.
Thanks again,

Don't know if this thread might help or not.
.
Thanks cHarley04,
I finally flashed Liberated 2.2.2. and it does exactly wht I was looking for!
Cheers,
I bought my first smartphone ever last month to give you an idea how new I am. My last phone was a Touch that I had set up to allow tethering... but I had to upgrade my phone. I need my tethering back, and I prefer not going through a program like pda-net.
So, I read that if I root the phone, I'd have tethering back. I used Revolutionary. I backed up my phone. I installed clockwork and superuser. I think I did everything I'm supposed to do. However, when I plug the phone in (I prefer USB tethering) and click the "Internet Connection Mode", I still get the message I need to subscribe for $20 a month, and I don't get a connection. Do I need to do something else to enable wired tethering? Do I have to install a 3rd party program as well? Or is it that I haven't installed a custom ROM/Kernel/Radio/Whatever would be the right thing?
The phone is a Thunderbolt. HTC Sense 2.1, Software #2.11.605.5, Android version 2.3.4.
I really don't have much of an idea what I'm talking about, so if anyone has any fairly easy answers, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help.
Find my WiFi tether thread and follow instructions

Do what lantern says. Just rooting does not unlock the built in internet sharing apps. You need to get the apps that do what you want now. I.e. wireless tether, you might like wired but wireless is very nice.

Grnlantern79,
Well, I've tried following your instructions on the other thread. I downloaded the .apk you had listed.
That took me an hour to figure out how to install... didn't know I needed to install another program to install something from a memory card.
As for these instructions:
"Mine did not work until I changed the device profile to Thunderbolt in settings.
Then I changed a few other settings such as
Force WiFi driver reloading (check) *has worked for some*
Routing fix (check) *most important one*
Disable wake-lock (unchecked) -> *this is why you lose connection after your screen turns off*"
I can't for the life of me find where any of these are. I've spent a good amount of time trying to find them, and just can't seem to find a settings section.
Then I tried Autotethering and WiFi Tether from the Market. It doesn't matter which I use, when I hit "Internet Connection Mode" the Verizon $20 to use message pops up. I tried on two computers, and both will see something there, but not connect to the internet. I tried connecting without selecting that, but it still didn't work (had it on "charge only").
I'm very frustrated... I've spent hours working on this and don't feel like I'm making any progress. I appreciate you attempting to help via that other thread, but I'm lost. If you have any way of giving me a more detailed explanation of how to get this to work, I would greatly appreciate it.
If I just install some new ROM and not work off the rooted stock one I have, would they come with the tethering block from Verizon disabled?
Thanks for any advice.
Telaeus
When you open WiFi tether press menu the soft key at bottom of your phone, the settings will pop up.
Device profile = thunderbolt
Routing fix = check box
Enable access control
Now I can tell you are not tech savy so this is where my help stops. If you can't find the settings in a program after an hour, you should think about return your smart phone for a feature phone.

Well, thanks for trying to help then Grnlantern79. I had misunderstood where to look for the settings. Figured it was settings on the phone itself I was changing to bypass the Verizon Internet Connection thing.
I changed all the settings in WiFi tether. Still no luck. The computer recognizes the network... I set it to Public. It's listed as HTC Remote NDIS Based Device. However, there is no Internet or Network access. I'm not putting it to "internet connection mode" since the Verizon popup has never gone away... leaving it on Charge only.
If anyone else is willing to try and assist me, I would appreciate it. I fully admit to not being smartphone savvy. However, I'm not incapable as Lantern implies... I've built my own computers since 1993, and can diagnose and do pretty much anything hardware related. Unfortunately, smartphones are different, and I'm still getting up to speed on all the terminology and uses of them.
So, thanks Lantern... but is anyone else able to figure out why this isn't working?
Thanks for any help.
Enable access control
Check
WiFi driver reload
Routing fix
Uncheck
Disable wake lock
Setup-method
Apple computer
Wext
Any other
softtap
Set computer profile to home network.
When u connect to ur phone it wireless not usb, ur phone will have a notification asking if its ok to connect, hit enable. Done.

If I can only get help with getting Open Garden to work or perhaps reconfigure the adhoc or wifi settings, I will be so glad. I am sort of kind of used to the gps issue and working from all the posts and things I can search for but the Open garden is critical cause I have a galaxy tab 10.1 and rely heavily on the ability to tether my phone to the tablet. It did work on CM 7 but this ROM Is NICE and I would just love to have this work on ICS Passion, please help , much appreciated

ICS Passion has a built-in mobile hotspot feature. You can access it at System Settings > Wireless & Networks (More...) > Tethering & portable hotspot

Is that feature free?
If you are looking for a 3rd party wifi tethering solution that requires root access to run, you can give Barnacle a try Here

I have barnacle and Open Garden and Wifi tether. I was able to only get wifi tether working versus the other two because the other two operate in adhoc mode and they (the other two) do not have the ability for an end user to change the phone profile. Even though I am using a Vibrant, I had to change the profile in "Wifi tether" to Samsung Nexus and the problems went away
Thanks for you input

Do any of you guys have a solution to "Error Code 67"? when i try to share my internet via "Bluetooth" i get this error. can someone help me out with this. i'm going on a long trip and i'm trying to connect the kids tablet to my phone. PLEASE HELP {Galaxy S3}
also, is anyone having issues tethering via Bluetooth with the S3? would rooting my phone make this work?
No idea about that error, but have you tried Wi-Fi tethering instead? I find that the best way of sharing my internet.

Try as suggested to user WiFi tether instead. Some error 67's are due to connection establishment.. make sure both devices have Bluetooth on and if given a connection code to punch it in promptly. Also if you can please post Q's in the Q&A section, it helps the mods with keeping the forums organized. Thanks

I get that same issue. Funny thing is that I *do* sometimes connect and tether the connection quite well. Yet, most times, I get that "Error Code 67". I haven't really pursued it much, other than now when I found this thread. I, too, would be interested in a solution. Good Luck!

It appears that NO one is able to tell me whether an i545 S4 is capable of wifi tether and how to do it. Nor can I find a decent explanation regarding the root capabilities of same. Did the switch from the 9505 versions to the i545 have a dramatic affect on Developer options? And if so are steps towards a fix in place at this time. I have left multiple messages and received no response. None of it was on this forum that's why I'm asking here, cause you seem to be the most organized and well informed I have found. I used Kingo root and have root access but I'm unable to wifi tether. Is there anything out there that I can download to enable Wi-Fi tether on this device.
Thank you,
Sincerely
Michael S Bauges
Try downloading power toggles from the play store and switching on the hotspot from from your notification toggle bar.

Ok, the problem before was it would say "checking for subscription status" . Then it would say " error, no connection available". I'm a give it a try and hope for the best, thanks
Unwanted lock pattern
I have another problem you might be able to help me out with. I downloaded Foxfi trying to get Wi-Fi tether and it required me to put a password screen lock in the form of code in order to use it after I found out the wifi didn't work I deleted it but the pass word screen lock remains and I don't want it. Thanks again for your help!
No luck

I tried 3 different toggles, SVTB USB tether lite, power toggles, and hotspot toggle. When activated each of them first does a subscription check and then turns the toggle off.
Keep losing my Google account after connecting to wifi
If your on version MJ7 or MK2 here is a link to a thread where you can enable thether provioning on the I545 (assuming you have a rooted phone)
