Greetings
I was following the how to guide of rooting my Samsung Galaxy 4g lte. I was at the step of the process where I started the process of SCH-I545_423399_Kernal.tar. My wife, 6 year old son and nephew all came charging inside. Somehow someway the confusion caused a problem. When I try to turn the phone on it comes up saying firmware encountered a problem please try again. I left battery out for over a minute and tried the process all over but now that is all I can do aside going back into the download mode.

FIRST THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING!!!!!!!!! I was eventually able to get my phone back online using a restore file. I also have been trying to run the prerelease kernel and it just sits there. I read some folks disabled the auto reboot option and this worked. I tried this it didn't work. My custom binary download is at 4. It never goes past NAND WRITE START.

Thanks! I got a nice stock file from Da_G (Da Man!). Now like a lemming jumping off a cliff again, I want to re-root it. What would you suggest as the best way to do it and how would I avoid the same "sh*t" with clcokworkmod?
I just odin'd the rooted overclocked kernel to do root. Booted completely up then went back in download mode and odin'd cwm... Im on beta 2 not 3. .. Havent read if there is any issues on 3 that may have caused it.

Do you have a link to the Kernel that you rooted and instructions? I'm on android 2.3.6 kernel 2.6.35.11, build GINGERBREAD.UCLA1.
Damn! How can they justify installing Gingerbread in 2012 with ICS out and working?!
product code?

Hi vintshave;
I'm having the exact same CWM bootloop issue and it looks like I need to do the same thing you did. I'm trying to download the stock rom (using check FUS) but I'm not sure what the Product Code is? It says to dial a number to get the product code but that's not an option right now obviously. Is it on the back somewhere?
If you got it somewhere else, can you let me know?
Thanks a lot!

Whoops; ignore me. I just loaded and flashed the beta 3 CWM and all is well again; tiny text, but all good. Thanks to snovvman for posting the link to the newer recovery:

CWR3 runs just fine for me , no problems yet ,, i think if you are haveing boot loop problems you did something wrong , do a search in the developers forum and look for att recovery ,
use oden and flash back to facotry and if all is well start over ,, its not hard i am new at this ,, about a week or two now and i have
root
blue battery mod
over clock ker
CWR 3
custom rom
just read every thing first befor you try to flash , read the hole post to see if there are any problems with said mod befor you just flash away
good luck

have your tried checking the MD5 or just re-downloading whatever rom you are trying to PUSH? Also check which version of ODIN you have. Like issues with the Charge, Notes seem to have an issue playing with the Odin interface.
All im pushing is the twrp and su for root . I have v4 of odin the newest v

1st are you already rooted. If you are, you should be using recovery to flash new ROM's not Odin.
2nd. Not sure how much this will help, but try Odin 3.07

not rooted. trying root for the first time on this unit. ill look for an older version thanks for trying to help out:good:
First, I'd say ditch the toolkit and do it manually. At least when it fails, you'll have a better idea of where and what was going on. Where is it failing? Is your device recognized by Odin if you try manually? Have you installed drivers for the phone?

should now look for a rooted stock firmware like this http://stockroms.net/file/GalaxyNote2/SCH-I605/rooted/root66_VZW_stock_system.tar.zip
im a bit new to this style of rooting. im used to the .zip stuff. im guessing this new way of doing things is because of the bootloader being on lock down?

I'm not sure who posted that one, but that is correct. Have you checked to see if you have a pre-ota rooted stock rom? I would check the android thread about rooting and using odin to make sure there's been no changes. Odin is usually pretty easy to use (ONCE you get it to recognize the correct drivers.)
It is a new phone so I would guess not but ill look and read more. Thanks a lot

Just use droidstyles guide and Odin to flash back to stock and then you can try again. If you were on the latest update, VRAMC3, then I believe you'll have to use either the root66 ROM or the alternative recovery ROM.

I have a VZW Galaxy S4 that has been rooted since day 1. It is still on 4.2.2 (I545VRUAMDK). I need to restore it to stock and get it updated. What is the quickest way to do this?
I would not if I was you you can't go back to mdk once you update and mdk is the only one you can unlock the boot loader

Description: This is a guide (based similar to my previous guide for the Verizon Galaxy S III) that will help you flash a 99.9% stock factory image for the Verizon Galaxy S4 overwriting every partition on the device back to stock. The ONLY major change I have made is for your convenience I have modified the factory image to keep all your data/apps/settings and internal storage partition intact. This method should help you restore from any soft-brick that you may encounter without having to wipe your data.
Minor Warning: Please note that if you had any special mods that you had to manually flash before or move on the system partition (like Google Wallet, AOSP 4.2 apps like camera and gallery, etc...) they will be lost as you are overwriting your system partition to factory stock. Please make sure to do the needful with your mods before following this guide (for example resetting the Google Wallet app).

Wrong version of the phone. He has the AT&T model.
OP - Do you know which update you were / are on? If you have 4.3, then you CAN NOT downgrade without risk of really getting into trouble and possibly hard bricking it. If you have not taken the 4.3, and you want to continue to modify your phone, don't install 4.3.
If you have taken the 4.3 update, you'll have to follow this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658486
If you have not, then follow this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387423
and stop at 4.1.2.
how do I check the version?

Version
Okay so its 4.1.2 now i followed the tutorial and just awaiting on the download! Wish me luck :highfive:
I am not sure how I could be more clear when I asked which version of the software is on your phone. It doesn't matter what the guide said it was for, it matters what is ON your phone before you start. If you were on 4.3 before and you did anything 4.1.2 related, this would be why you are in this situation in the first place. Knowing this would and should have been the first step to any attempt to modify your phone. If, for some reason you don't know (argh!), then the easiest way I can think of would be by the Settings app. Was it tabbed with 4 different options across the top or just one long list that you have to scroll all the way to the bottom to see everything?
The tabbed Settings didn't come by till 4.3 for your phone.
Yes it had 4 tabs
I put the 1.4.2 update on the sd card and tried to install in and it showed a android guy with a red triangle... Did i brick my phone? :crying:
Nvm not bricked
I can still do everytjing as before just stuck at Galaxy s3 logo... I need to unistall chainfire 3d but cant get into my phone

I've been watching this thread since you opened it. Why would you use Chainfire 3D to root your phone?
CF Auto Root would of been the better method for attaining root. The previous mentioned program isn't for what you attempted to use it for. Can you get into download mode?

Does anyone else know where to get that update at?
