Or maybe install BetterBatteryStats (free for xda members), grant it root rights and enable the watchdog. Leave your phone for a couple of hours without using it, then set the tabs to 1: Network, 2: Screen off, 3: Current. It will show what's been happening while your phone is just sitting there

First of all: Just got a replacement phone yesterday from insurance so I have confirmed this problem on two different handsets.
The problem: When setting up chrome to message at bottom of screen on phone says "error: unable to connection". Chrome to Phone connects fine on the PC End but just not through my phones.
Any ideas would be great. By the way I tried this immediately with the new phone straight out of the box with the same results. Tried clearing the app data. Just not getting any luck with this.
Yeah I sometimes have problems like this with the app.
Are you on a wifi network? If you manage to log into your google account, try to disconnect that account (on both ends) and then reconnect. If all else fails, just try removing and reinstalling until it works. Sorry, this is the only help I can offer, but these steps usually solve my problems with the app.

There is a limited amount of phones that can be attached to this service at any given time... I have no idea how many that is but I have the same issue and mine was caused by phone replacement and flashing roms if you did not disconnect phone properly it will not allow access again....
This is a major issue that google team needs to address especially with the amount of DEVS there out there so this has been a major problem for me as of late... Do not go to extremes trying to get this to work like wiping your phone and the like. Unfortunately all that can be done now is just wait... some people have gotten lucky with uninstall and re-install of the application but its a 50/50 Chance...
Hold tight if I get more info I will post it here.
updates? got this too now on new rom

I was reading something one time that everytime you flash a new rom it makes you look like you changed phones, so you have to go to Google some where can't remember and unlink that phone from your account. You have to do this after every Rom flash.

That will probably do it, but if not, you can either A) uninstall anything you installed, or B) (recommended) do a factory reset, start from scratch, and don't install ANYTHING until you see if the phone is ok. Assuming it is, then you can add apps back a few at a time until you find the culprit. Or with a stock experience if it keeps happening, take it back for a new one
I would do a backup and the do a factory reset.
Would doing a factory reset break root? Since I have already done a nandroid, would I be able to restore apps and app data only after the factory reset?
via Galaxy S III
To my experience NO I just factory reset and still see superuser under "all apps"

Finally someone got the same issues as mine. I got mine fixed. The main problem is the google account. No matter how many times you do factory reset, error will show again and again.
Try this and see if this work.
Goto settings --> Accounts and Sync.
go through each email account, make sure "Sync Internet" "Sync google play books" "Sync google play movies" are UNCHECK!
restart your phone.
That might solve the problem
Thanks everyone for the comments I will give it a try and see what works and I will let you know.

I hope that works lol, I have had that issue since out of the box.
I have a Rogers Galaxy S3 and mine began doing it yesterday, while in the waiting room of the dentist office.
The phone became rather warm and battery life went to crap. And then my phone started throwing up the same message. I dod not install or uninstall anything just before it began.
It was ok last night, but then it did it again this morning, while I was browsing through my tweet timeline in plume.
I had a similar issue on mine when rooted. I ended up having to delete the whole data partition and start again from scratch. It was a corruption somewhere in there causing it.

Recently, data drop issue happened frequently in my evo3d with JB rom. Im getting more annoyed with this. And when it happened, the only thing to fix it is by turning mobile data off and then turn it on again. It is time consuming because from time to time, i have to check my phone for notification, and if no notification, i have to make sure that is it due to data drop issue. So i thought, i just create an app to simulate what im doing now as a workaround for this issue.
But, this is just initial release, don't expect more from it. After a day running, i have no data drop issue (actually, still happen, but before i notice, this app already fix it). This first release only to get the core functionality running. I will update this app for more feature and do some other optimization.
This app might use some additional data to 'ping' to internet every 'n' second.

He kind of answered that in the OP. It is basically doing what one does manually, which is turning the internet off and on.
It is for what I understand always checking for internet connection, and when it does not find it, it restarts the process.
I will give this a try.
I do have one question though. What happens if you are in an area of no internet connection? Will it keep resetting, or does it stop trying after a bit?
I thought of the idea when I first got the issue but dont have my development laptop anymore so I couldn't make it. Thanks bro for making this app
Edit: So do this start automatically, so we don't have keep enabling after each reboot, or is that coming soon?
Gonna give this a go right now. Thanks for the app, I'll report my results.

For now, yes it will keep resetting the network. I already think about that but haven't implement it to the app. So, might consume more battery here. Maybe I'll add it in future.

Yeap, currently is set to 5 seconds. Will upload the latest apk with ability to modify interval between each checking later. Its already done, but pending testing. I've set it to 5seconds minimum and 60 seconds maximum. Is it okay to you or you have any other value in mind?

This app is a god sent.. I've always had to deal with these freaking data drops ever since i started flashing roms on the evo.. Thank you so much for sharing..
Petalyaa, for intervals, you could do it in minutes instead of seconds since data drops don't happen every minute. In the app code, just keep everything the same but times the original interval values by two.

I have just, in the past couple of days, developed a pretty serious issue with pop-up ads appearing all over the place on my phone. They come in two different ways. 1st is when an ad pops up over the top of another app. This has happened with GO SMS and with the Facebook app for sure. I can't recall what other apps it has happened with, but I don't get the impression that the ad is related to the app I'm in. I've had them pop up on the home screen as well.
Here is an example of a pop-up ad when I opened GO SMS:

}
I also have it happen where I open my browser (I use Chrome) and it will automatically launch a new tab, then the tab will act as a redirect and send me to the Play Store for another app (basically sending me to the download/install page for an app).
I don't recall installing any apps just before this started happening. I believe that my app list is the same before and after this issue, but I'll keep looking. I have not rooted and am using the Nova Pro launcher, if that helps at all.
How can I figure out what is causing this and, most importantly, how do I make it go away? A factory reset is an option, but I'd like to keep that as a last resort if possible.
Thank you for any and all help.

I can try that. If that is the offender, that'll be a real bummer. Used it for about a year, now, between my S3 and Note 3 and never had an issue. I got pretty comfy with using it as a messaging app, too.
That said, if it is going to cause pop-ups like this, it isn't worth it.

I had an add on, but it was from a while ago. I can't really think of a thing I changed between it not happening and happening.
I have deleted GO SMS, though, and have not experienced the issue since. Looking like that was the culprit. Now I just need to find an acceptable SMS app.

Hi all. I have swipe elite star phone with android 6.0.. For sometime my phone shows insufficient internal storage. I tried removing the apps from internal memory. But no use. When i checked it shows almost 4.8 to 5 gb used in internal storage. Then i got fed up and i did a factory reset. Then everything will be fine for sometime until again the same message appears i had to repeat the same... Recently i noticed that phone and messaging storage apk is the one taking up that space. There is no option to delete or clear the data from the app management.. Kindly help in this issue.. Its frustrating to again and again do factory reset.. I have attached a screenshot here which shows the same.. Help out guys...

Are you rooted?
If you are, you can use Titanium Backup to delete the data from that app.
Not sure how did that get so big though.
Found a solution finally.. After factory reset, i disabled my default messaging app 'Indus message' and installed sms organizer. Now the size doesnt go up.. And never had the problem till now.. I guess the problem was with that native message app..

Glad you found this also. I have the same problem with a "Cell C Jazz" Android 6.0 OS, too. I will try to remove the default sms app.
Just a question though.. Are there not developers on this site that can fix that sort of thing? Or is it just an easy way (read: lazy) to remove an app to replace it with another without fixing a trawling bug and maybe most likely learn from it that could potentially save the world in 10 years from now?
Cheers,
Razer0
*edit* Ok, ok. I see google are its "parents". Would love to see someone closely involved fix this directly
