My E970 did a kernel crash into a recovery mode called "DemiGod". I was able to reboot and recover, but this scared me a bit. Is this a known mode?
Yep.

I think almost everyone has seen that screen at least once. The volume buttons are reversed for reboot, if you do opposite what the menu says it reboots normally.
I can't seem to get out of the screen, any thoughts?
Hold your jaw slightly to the left while swearing at it in seven different languages...then press what appears to be the wrong button (up and down are swapped)
I've gotten this, and luckily it did not seem to lose any data. Other threads have reported users losing sms', contacts, and more - for custom roms, is this just the acceptable risk at this point? Any solutions?

Hey all,
I'm experiencing a strange touchscreen phenomenon. I'm rooted and was previously using xtrSense. Recently I switched to xtrROM and while I LOVE so much about this ROM, I have been experiencing some touchscreen issues that arise with increasing intensity and are making my experience with this phone increasingly frustrating. I seem to encounter dead parts of the screen; consistent areas where the touch screen becomes unresponsive or acts strange.
Examples:
Keyboard - There are consistent letters that just will not recognize when I press them or can only be accessed by starting on one letter and then sliding over the the one I want, e.g. the L and M in landscape, the V, I and caps toggle in portrait. Other things go in and out as well, i.e. the sensitivity of touching one letter. There are times when the keyboard just wont consistently settle on one letter when I try and select one.
Other buttons - I am consistently having issues selecting buttons in gmail, like the OK button on a pop-up window. I have to play the rotate my screen game to get the button to work. Also, the OK button in the window of many SENSE programs, like alarm clock and mail. I press in the area of the button all over and I get nothing, but the CANCEL button right next to it work without fail.
I do have other screwy touch screen issues at times as well, e.g. my home, back, menu buttons won't respond, or will think they're part of what is displayed on the touch screen. I also on occasion have bizarre issue switch the LP dock. It won't find it's home and will constantly shutter between two rows.
The question is, has anyone else experienced this, either with the ROM and/or LauncherPro? I'm going to be re-flashing the ROM, and maybe even loading up some other ROMs to see if that alleviates the issue, but I wanted to first see if before I go through this if anyone has been through it before and can impart some hard-earned knowledge. I've tried to do some digging on the forums but didn't find much of anything.
Any advice would be most appreciated!
Thanks!

I have not had this experience at all. I used to use both xtrSENSE and xtrROM for several months, although I currently use FroShedYo. It frankly sounds like a hardware issue.
Just to eliminate the possibility, you could 1) do a fresh FULL wipe and flash of xtrROM, 2) go back to xtrSENSE or even better restore a nandroid of your xtrSENSE from before and verify if the problem still persists, or 3) try a completely different new ROM just to see what happens.
If the problem still happens on other ROMs, which I'm very sure it will, then you will know it's a hardware issue and if your phone is either still under warranty or you pay for insurance, then I would exchange it for another Eris.
Yeah, I figured as much. Like I said I am going to do some ROM work, but it may come to admitting that the hardware may be going bad.
Thanks for the reply.
PS GO BUCKS!
Hi all..
I have a problem with my DNA. Sometimes, like maybe once every few weeks or so, the touch screen will not respond correctly.
Here's what happens:
1. I turn on the display while the phone is already running. (meaning, I'm not booting up when it happens)
2. I try to slide the unlock widget up but it doesn't respond.
3. I hold the power button, and it says to continue holding it for 3... 2... 1.. seconds. However, at 1 seconds, it never does anything. I've held it for 2 or 3 minutes at times, and no reboot.
4. I swipe randomly around the screen and notice that some of my quick launch icons or the unlock slider bump up momentarily, but not enough to unlock the phone.
5. I continue swiping randomly, with a random number of fingers, and eventually the stars align and the phone is unlocked.
6. Once the phone is unlocked, tons of random touch presses occur. Random apps will open, messaging, etc. Sometimes, it opens the phone app and randomly presses things. It does this at a very, very rapid rate. I usually panic and turn off the display so it stops.
7. I manage to unlock it and hold the power button until the "Reboot/Shutdown/Airplane Mode" window appears and STAYS on the screen long enough for me to tell it to reboot.
8. After it reboots, the problems are gone and the touch screen returns to its proper functionality.
Has anyone had this problem before or know why it's happening? Or what can contribute to it?

Forgot to give some info:
I'm on default Rom, not rooted, nothing special.
To fix this problem, should I go ahead and root and install a new Kernal?

My screen started doing this, for me it is hardware failure. When you enable "show touches" from developer options, does it show 3-7 ghost touches? Mine is doing this (shattered screen and that is the only side effect, ha)

So i was just forced to install Lollipop by Sprint. I was having a minor S-Pen issues and Sprints "FIX" was to update me to Android 5.0 Lollipop. Well now I have 500000000 other issue with my phone. Most i can live with, but there are 2 in particular that at driving me absolutely bonkers and I cant fix. I was hoping someone around here would have an idea how to fix it without me having to root, and go back to the previous OS. (The Sprint Root seems a little intimidating and I cant afford to brink my phone even for 20 minutes).
The main issues I am having are regarding the lock screen. I cant get the lock screen to stay open more then 3 or 4 seconds and if I botch my pattern or don't swipe fast enough, the screen will turn itself off. Then I have to turn the screen back on and try and unlock it again. Sometimes the screen even turns off in the middle of trying to unlock it. It is EXTREMELY annoying having to try and unlock my phone 4 or 5 times just to get to the notification screen ...... As for the Notification screen, once i finally am able to get my phone unlocked, then when i try and swipe my notification bar the phone will sometimes turn the screen off as well, then I have to go BACK to trying to unlock the phone and try and do everything faster then 2 jack rabbits banging in order to just get to my notifications. Its become a major problem in that sometimes I just cant get the sequence and speed right for 10 or 15 tries.
Anyone else having these issues or have a fix???

I can't say I had any problems like this. I was running Stock rooted OC5 for a while and had really no problems with it. I didn't have any pattern or pin unlock though, so maybe it would have been different? I would have stayed stock but my Flashaholic took hold and made to start trying out other ROMs.
As for rooting, I have found it very easy to root this phone. I haven't had a problem either using auto-root or flashing superSU.

before a factory reset, you might try doing a wipe of the cache partition.
turn your phone off
press and hold, Volume up + home key + power until you see the blue booting to recovery mode message
wait for recovery mode to display (the menu will show after the green robot)
use the volume rocker to move down to wipe cache partition and press the power button to select it.
now select the yes line and press power
now reboot your phone and see if that helps with the lock screen behavior
good luck

Glad to hear that, I hope it stays that way
You should read more before trying to root
Anyone know how I've managed to p0wn myself such that only the attached lockscreen, a pixelated picture of the time and battery left, is available?
* Don't see any mechanism for unlocking the phone
* When I call the phone, it still rings, and I can talk.
* When I get a new text message, a "text icon" shows up in about a 5x5 "pixel" graphic.
* Also get a graphic for hangout chats.
* Holding down the power button for 45ish seconds does nothing (30 seconds is normally enough to power off a phone, right?)
Maybe I should have swapped out this ROM back when builds were disabled And perhaps now I'm paying for installing this ROM (ROM taken from https://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/orig-development/rom-lineageos-14-1-t3584522) in the first place. That, or an app has compromised my lock-screen (ty android for burying permissions like that and not giving me an option to disallow this particular one anyway). That, or I've managed to turn on some sort of accessibility mode. Ironically, I love the privacy features of the lineage builds and would love to keep using them.
Attached: Screenshot of lock-screen while Android seems to be fully-on in the background
PS -- my current remediation plan is to let the battery run out, start the phone in recovery mode, and to flash a new ROM. It'd be great if someone knew that I had just turned on some sort of accessibility/simplicity mode and knew how I could get out of it.
I've never seen that before but have you tried rebooting the phone to see if it goes away?
I know you can't pull the battery but you can force a reboot by button combination.
Its usually Power and Volume up on HTC devices, Holding them both at the same time for 10 seconds or longer should force reboot it.
Fantastic -- that's exactly what it was -- HTC Dot View mode. Holding power + volume up did the trick! Thanks!
I was moving a bunch of hard drives around, so I'm guessing a magnet triggered the mode. The phone seemingly couldn't get itself out of that mode, even though the magnets (hard drives) had been moved away.

I think this is LineageOS version of HTC Dot View case mode. Something just went wrong and this mode got triggered. Reboot the phone and it should be fine.

Firstly I wanted to clarify one thing that my phone worked okay after the update. I didn't realise it has updated until after a boot loop.
Just FYI The camera in my phone have been crashing randomly when taking pics and the pics weren't having the full resolution. It was 1280x720. This wasn't an issue for me and I ignored it for like 3-4 months.
So my redmi note 10 have had some random reboot issues lately which i didn't give much attention to. It wasn't frequent just rare random reboots. Few days back I noticed my phone rebooting while in use and it started to loop for a few times and when it loaded into lockscreen right after unlocking, the power button started to press automatically triggering the power option screen and then the emergency calls as well. It stopped after a few taps on the power button.
A day or two later it rebooted once again while the recorder was on and and this time it boot looped a few times and showed the lockscreen and crashed booting back once again. A few tries after that it booted up and I was able to use it for another day.
The very next day, it did the same. Started to boot and loop once again. But this time when the battery is sufficient enough or the phones cool and haven't been used for a while, it boots into lockscreen but freezes and crashes. At one occasion, it stayed just a few more seconds long enough to open the passcode screen but crashes before I could type anything. Then it loops once again and before even reaching the lockscreen, boots back into MI Android Powered screen right after the three dots blinking page. And randomly it boots into lockscreen as well. But once the battery is down or the phone is heated enough, it barely goes into lockscreen.
Booting into safe mode also shows the same. It sometimes boots into lockscreen but doesn't show the 'safe mode' text in the bottom.
Right now when I had kept my phone off for a while it booted into lockscreen twice and the screen dims immediately before freezing and crashing.
The third time it just went back to the MI Android powered logo right after the three dots blinking screen.
Guys please let me know do you think this is a hardware issue or a corrupt software update?
I know software update issue can cause bootloop but does it reach till the lockscreen? My phone consistently gets into the lockscreen when the battery is sufficient or the phones cool enough.
What last update did you perform?

MIUI 14 which i didn't even realise until I checked the settings app one day after a boot issue
What version do you have?
For me see screenshot, works fine!
Backup your data and clean flash with Mi Flash Tool, you can then exclude any software problem
This issue have been resolved.
The issue was the CPU couldn't handle the heat once the device turned on and would reboot right after reaching the lockscreen and loops.
Thank you for all your suggestions, though.

May I know how did you fixed the issue? I'm stock with same situation as you. Did you change any hardware?
Hey, my mi 10 5g has similar symptoms - random restarts + random switch on power button without pressing it...
all this came after upgrade from miui 13 to 14..I use this phone for 1,5 yr with no problems...
Phone get hotter also...
Is it related to bug?
