[Q] Do you still advice buying HTC Amaze? - HTC Amaze 4G

Hi,
I am looking for a phone with a decent camera(5/8 MP) with NFC and FM.
Budget is around 300$ (~ 18K INR)
I will be using it as my primary device, so need a device with stable rom with no show stopper bugs.
Amaze owners what do you say about this device?
Is it still worth buying this device or is there any alternatives.

If you can get it under 200 then sure. I bought this phone for nostalgic feelings.
Also I believe its the last device that has SD Card and removable batteries. Its average, the battery life I mean.
All the best and stable ROMs are mostly stock ICS. Sadly the NFC/Beam doesn't work with sharing or beaming pictures. Not a show stopper but good to know.
Dev has come a long way, a working version of CM10 and CM10.1 with a few glitches. Like bluetooth, volume not working speaker and some echo. But otherwise it's something. Hell, I came from G2X as one of my old devices and Amaze has it better in this department. Believe me.
Camera is very good. But not so good on low light situations. Stick with Stock.
Again I have this device mainly because of nostalgia. I love HTC hardware. My very first phone was HTC. Just pains me that they can't get a decent flagship device to stand up against Samsung.
Pains me to say but if you want a budget device under 300 that is still kick a$$ its Galaxy S2 or Galaxy S3. I used my GS2 for pics on my last trip. Did very amazing job. My main device is Nexus 4. Terrible camera, like really, especially in low light.
If you can grab HTC Amaze under 200 and great condition, just go for it. Don't expect the front facing camera to be perfect because it isn't. Dust gets under it and there is no way to get it out. Look for that before you buy it, I didn't notice it until i got home. Not a show stopper but it really annoys me.
For now Stock>CM10.1 just because of bugs need to be cleared. Idk, its your call. I use this phone regularly. Don't pay more than 200 its not worth it.

$300 is the perfect value for this phone. If you're heavy into modifications and ROMs then I recommend sensation since there is more development. The Amaze has a beyond decent camera. It is really clear.

Theoretically the phone should be worth 300
but it isn't
you could easily find an amaze for less than 200 of you look around

Thanks for the great review. I was considering if I should flash a custom rom or stay with stock. With what I use it for I think it will be safer to stay with stock. I'd like to add that I paid $10 to send my Amaze back to HTC to get the dust cleaned up. Also, I learned that FM radio for Amaze is not in the CM roms.
My HTC Amaze is merely one year old yet it's showing signs of age. (SD card ejects by itself for no reason, I think the slot is loose) Stock rom is still on ICS but SGS2 is already on 4.1 and may get 4.2. It's ironic because my first smartphone is Behold 2 and I defected to HTC because Samsung denied any 2.x updates to SGS2 although the hardware really could support it. I'm quite upset HTC is playing the same game so I would not buy their flagship HTC One now and get thrown under the bus in 6 months.
The best deal is either Nexus 4 or Nexus 5(if it comes out) but in my local area they are selling HTC DNA for 250-350, S2 and S3 from $200-$300. Therefore I think $300 for HTC Amaze is really too much. If I were to sell it in a good condition it should worth about $200-$250(if like new condition).

I bought one on swappa.com for 150 bucks for my cousin 2 days ago with all accessories and original box perfect screen and very light signs of use on the housing, hence I find 300 to be ridiculous for the amaze. Heck u can buy htc one x for 225 on swappa...

True the 8MP cam in GS2 is nice,I myself was considering GS2, but the model that has FM doesn' t have NFC and the viceversa , any other devices that has both these together?

Spirit fm works! It's a great stand alone radio app. And the new aokp port by Jeeper's has most everything working!
If I could go back in time I would have an sgs3.

Hey there tutysara!
If you like HTC and can get this device for 200 or less I would go for it. Don't buy for more than 200 since that would be over paying for something no longer supported by HTC.
If you like ICS then you'll be happy with your purchase. If you like jb then a Samsung or nexus would be better for you.
Camera quality is amazing on here btw.
Bluetooth won't work on sense 4 roms hopefully it will be fixed soon.
Hope you get something you like.

Like pretty much everyone else has said under 200 is a good deal.
The amaze is still my daily phone and i love it. Loving the AOKP alpha that was just released.
I'd definitely recommend this phone for under 200.

Happy to see the progress on the new AOKP build.
I had deferred the purchase to next month due to the dollar exchange rates.
As others have suggested I am also looking for deals on S2 and Nexus devices.
I will also monitor the developments with AOKP.

Good phone. high specs. but it's down to YOUR buget... do you want a expensive hih end phone? or will a phone at a cheaper price do?
Just got the SGS II. Had an S I before. SII is amazing. No lag on any games. Quadrant scores are 3500 plus or 4000 plus if you over clock it.

These threads amuse me. Here's 5 phones, pick one. And asking in the SGS2 section no less. That's like asking a bunch of Mac owners if they should buy a Mac or a PC.
Clearly you're open to a new carrier because you're choosing between 5 phones. If you had to stay with a specific carrier, that already cuts your choices down to 2 or 3 since the SGS2 and Sony handsets don't support the same 3G bands as the HTCs. Your country will factor in as well since launch availability, pricing, and local carrier discounts will incentivize some phones over others.
Those are just some of the considerations that don't even have anything to do with the phones themselves. Of those 5 choices, how many here have had 20 minutes hands-on with more than 2 of them? I haven't. Most of the opinions here will likely come from hours of aggregating editorial reviews. While those are valuable in their own way, asking a forum pales in comparison to doing that research on your own. Also, you can bet that almost no one here has played with a Sensation yet.
OP, I don't mean to be a douche but nobody here will offer a more meaningful opinion than one you could come up with on your own.

If you want a future proof phone say atleast for a year or two..
then the SGS 2 and Sensation are your best bet..
SGS2- you will be able to root and make sure you have the latest software thansk to XDA
Sensation - will not be able to root yet (locked bootloader) until some brilliant XDA members manages to crack it
I am considering the Sensation as I feel I hopefully wouldn't need to root it for atleast a year or two by which time somebody might have cracked its boot loader
The milestone has been out almost 2 years and the bootloader is still not cracked

I can get a high end phone price isnt a issue just need a phone which can last for a year or two, should be durable i am not a fan of rooting devices so i dont really need that until it is necessary to meet the techonolgy in shape of updates.
Sony phones look like toys with good feature, HTC looks solid, i have Samsung Wave at the moment though it has great features but the Bada OS which is not cracked yet, so i want to try Android now.
So far by reading reviews, user comments, watching videos i have found SGSII best but on the other hand there are people complaining about battery, sound, lag, reboots etc etc which is really confusing.
Note: I am from Pakistan so contract thing doesnt work here, i will get a Sim Free phone by paying full price of it thats why it is really necessary to do a research and ask for guidance.
How about the Google Nexus S (made by Samsung).
Always reqcieved the latest Android updates straight from Google.
Very stable.
NFC reader.
Many Custom ROMs.
Identical hardware to the Samsugn Galaxy S i9000 (4" AMOLED i9020, or sLCD i9023)
The phone feels like a phone in your hands.
No lag unlike the Samsung i9000.
About 350 Euros last time I checked.
handtec.co.uk post internationally.
Sadly, no microSD card, no FM Radio. Lacks some hardware enabled codecs for video, but still plays most and can play other formats using software decoding.
The hardware of Nexus S isnt outdated ? I guess most of the future applications will support dualcore phones.
Have mine for two days now and I must say this one of the best phones I got my hands on.
Battery life is amazing. Camera it's amazing.samsung's email client and screen is fantastic.
And 1.2ghz dual prossessor is so so fast.. Can't even compare to htc vision oc 1.8ghz cm7.

We get it, your battery life sucks. Take a look at your apps, because the majority of users say the battery life is great. I've done no tweaking except freezing a few hubs, everything still syncs in the background and I'm sitting on 92% now, unplugged at 7am this morning. (It's now 2:20pm here.)
I just got my sgs2, my previous phone was a desire but I miss htc sense already. But I am hoping someone will port sense to the sgs2 soon there already is a mostly working port for the sgs1

HTC Rezound over Sammy Nexus??????

I don't know, for some reason I'm feeling like the Rezound might be the best new Verizon phone. Of course this is completely dependent upon Devs hooking up the Rezound with ICS and the latest and greatest. I think they will tho. And I'm "noob" status when it comes to dev knowledge and modding, but it seems the HTC may surprise people VS sammy phone
Now I admit I don't know much about all the hardware that goes into these devices, but to me the Nexus has the advantage because, well, it's a Nexus! And that is strictly a software advantage as it will most likely get timely, BS free updates because it's Google's baby.
While I have loved my TB, I think it is because of all the GREAT developer support! Have I not rooted this device I would imagine that I would be a little more than frustrated with it by now. From the GB update tabacle to HTC saying that it will not be officially be getting Sense 3.0. Not to mention the reboot issues early in the devices career. IMO, the development for this device saved it ... IMO any way.
I will be getting the Nexus when it drops and I will be enjoying ICS goodness :-D I will have my TB waiting on the sidelines in the event something happens to my GN ...

Ooooooppps!
Yes, Devs most definitely saved this phone!
another thread about these eh?...
"if" I get a new phone, it's going to be the reZound as it's the successor to the greatest phone ever made, the Thunderbolt.
specs aside, I'm certain there's going to be a lot of support(roms/kernals/radios) just lke the Thunderbolt.
RAZR lost me with the non-removable battery(locked bootloader also, but I'm sure devs will get around that)
Nexus lost me with the 'no microSD' support & the 5MP camera(common! who doesn't use their phone to take nice pics these days anyway!?)
you could argue that Nexus will have ICS, but all 3 will in time(officially). not to mention unoffical roms that we'll all be using anyway
I must agree, Dev's really did save this phone. I'm also getting the Nexus but keeping the bolt on my desk just in case.
Coming from having the OG Droid for almost two years to the DInc. (only had the Inc. for two weeks) to the Thunderbolt. I will miss Sense, I am a fan, but I think ICS will be a nice change.
I am getting one or the other, will wait to play with in person. I am guessing HTC may get better battery life on ICS. I think the Nexus may be a tad to big and no SD card slot or removable battery, which sucks, but I am sure the screen will be incredible. The Rezound will have to impress to keep me with HTC.

The Nexus does have a removable battery.
keep in mind that the nexus is 1.2GHz dc & the rezound is 1.5GHz dc.
the nexus may also have a bigger screen(4.65" instead of 4.3") but it's not a super amoled + & has same pixel count as the iphone's 3.5" screen.

Higher MP doesn't mean that the camera will take better pics. It's all about the sensors that the phone uses. And if you want to take "nice pics", you should get a camera for that, not a phone.

oh I've got a 14mp panasonic lumix for that... but your phone is generally always on you, your camera is not. you need to make sure you are properly covered at all times for emergency picture taking. because you never know when "mother of god!!.. what the hell!?.." and you need to capture the moment.
not to mention paranormal occurances.
Don't get me wrong, I use my phone to take pics quite often. But is there really that big of a difference between 3 mega pixel? I never remember complaining about the pics my D1 took.

As mentioned, it's not "mp's" that makes great pictures it's the sensors. The only good thing about an 8mp over a 5mp is if you want to zoom in on someone and see if they have bloodshot eyes! Or more realistically, if you want to blow up a picture to poster size and not lose quality. I think the SGN went 5mp to gain better 0 shutter speed lag.
Anyhow, there are TONS of articles and forums posts that explain this in way better details. Point be said, the SGN having 5mp should NOT be a negative factor.

if you don't upgrade phones very often, wait a couple of weeks and see what deals that best buy, amazon and wirefly offer. I got 2 tbolts, 2 dinc2's for 300 total from amazon.
As far as the rezound, wow!!!
Better specs than I thought it would see. Thank you HTC for finally getting the screen right.
I was definitely in the nexus camp, but now, as long as we can get root on the rezound, I will probably get that after xmas. I like the no buttons look of ICS, but have preferred HTC over samsung for a long time now.
Did we get specs on how much storage the rezound is going to have? I'm hoping 32gb internal like the Nexus.

Getting rid of Evo, What should I get?!?

So now it turns out that the screen is broken on my Evo3D (bottom part of the touchscreen is irresponsible to touches) this is after the whole motherboard got replaced after I had the phone for a month, so my carrier will probably let me have a new phone, though I might have to cough up 50-100$ myself...
Not sure what I should get though, so I'd appreciate some input!
I could get an Evo3d for free, but my faith is HTC just isn't what it used to be. It's not just the poor quality of the Evo3D I'm talking about (the touchscreen issue seems to be fairly common) it's also the fact that HTC is making us Evo3D owners wait until at least summertime to get ICS update, which is just unacceptable for what was sold as a top of the line phone...
Moto RAZR
They'd give me the Droid RAZR for 50 bucks, and I'm pretty tempted, since it looks like a nice phone. A great SAMOLED+ QHD screen (Yes I know about the pentile), expandable up to 48gb, a pretty good camera, and super thin Kevlar surface all line up for a pretty sweet package. The only thing kinda holding me back, is that the SGX540 GPU in it is kinda old, battery life is supposed to be just average, and the camera, while good, isn't as good as in the Samsung GSII or iPhone 4S.
Galaxy Nexus
I miiight be able to get a Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy Note if I cough up 100-200$ but not sure if I should go for it. Yes, it has an awesome screen and ICS, but whatever Android phone I get will have ICS in the next 3 months or so. The downside is a kinda old CPU/GPU combo (OMAP4430 and SGX540), a 5 mp camera, average battery life and only 16gb storage.
iPhone
Depending on what I'm willing to spend, they'll let me have an iphone4 for free, or 4S if I put down some cash. Between 50 and 200$ all depending on the 16/32/64 gb model. Now I know the iPhone option is kinda controversial, and if you had asked me a year ago, I'd never get an iPhone. But lately, I've gotten kinda disillusioned with Android. Even on a high end model like the Evo3D or SGSII isn't as smooth as iOS, and lag, even if very slight, is almost always present if you go to a list, for example. Theres also the issue of hardware quality and service. The last six months I've spent a couple dozen hours either trying to get an Android phone fixed, fixing issues with it, or taking it to repairs hops and waiting days or weeks for it to be repaired. With Apple you don't have to deal with all of that. They DO give really, really great service. If you take a broken phone to the Apple store, they often just outright replace it, and that counts for something IMHO.
I've had an ipad2 for the past 5 months, and I've really gotten to appreciate how fast and smooth the experience is, and how everything just works. The other advantages would be iMessage/FaceTime, which is really cool, having my phone work great together with my iPad, and the whole Apple ecosystem. Cameras are also top of the line, from what I've seen, and battery life is really good.
I know of the downsides with getting an iPhone, the biggest one would be the 3.5 inch screen. No matter how awesome, bright and sharp it is, it will take some getting used to, to go from a 4.3 inch screen to a 3.5 inch screen.
Other phones, like a Samsung or HTC are also available for me to get, this is just my top3. I'd really appreciate your input, and let me know what phone you'd get next in my situation... Thanks!
Based on your phone listing's looks like you have the GSM version. I would go with either the GN or the Note if it is not to big for you.
The GSM GN has pretty good battery life from what I have seen. The CDMA is not as good which is that I own. Needs the extended battery on CDMA to get decent life. There are a lot of people with the GSM version who get an average of 5 hours on-screen time. To me that is some pretty good battery life.
The downside like you said is only 16gigs of storage on the GSM GN without an SD slot. I just do not get that at all! Why only 16 on a device that cannot be expanded! Luckily the CDMA version came with 32gigs.
I owned the CDMA EVO 3D back in the day, then went to the Epic 4G touch which blows the 3D away. The GN is more in a league with the SGS2 then the EVO 3D. The GN is super smooth.
I personally stay away from Moto's, especially if you like to flash things...
I have been really fortunate not to have any trouble with my evo 3d. I also had the og evo before the 3d.
My next phone will not be htc though. Im very disappointed about ics being pushed back.
Anyway, from your list of phones to choose from i would not hesitate on switching. To the galaxy nexus. Ive had a chance to play around with it a few times and really love it. Updates will always be faster to and of course it comes with the new chip for mobile purchasing. Really comes down to your personal preference and needs really. Your listed phones are all great products. I will never purchase an apple product, but i know a lot of people that love them. Good luck to you.

Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy S2 i9100. Those two phones are by far the best supported phones development wise on this site. It's only going to get bigger with the GS2 likely decreasing if the GS3 makes a big enough impact.
No HTC phone besides the Sensation compares development wise right now. A few legacy devices here and there, but for the specs, the two phones I mentioned above cannot be beat right now.
I'm in the same boat, well I'm selling mine, I'm so disappointed in HTC, too many freezing up and restarting by itself on stock rom, moving on

Thanks! The one thing I REALLY liked about the Evo was the QHD screen. So I really don't want to go back to an 800*480 screen. The Moto Razr and Galaxy Nexus have pretty much the same CPU/GPU right? OMAP 4430/60

They more or less are the same CPU. I would head over to the Galaxy Nexus forums and learn more about their processor and how it actually is a pretty remarkable in performance. Google picked out nice specs for their flagship.

Thanks!

It's no slouch at all. It's just older which puts you under the illusion that it is weak. Compared to other dual core devices, there aren't huge differences.

Sold mine on Ebay. Bought a Epic4G touch. Not looking back. The only thing I appreciated about the Evo4G was the development community. Other than that, I'm getting twice the battery on a larger screen.
That would be my vote. And I paid full price for the Epic. Worth it.

Lol I saw you post in a thread the other day that your next phone will either be an iPhone or a windows phone haha
Evo3D.
evo 3d seems very cheap now for a (once high end) mid range phone.
I've had nothing but good luck with my Evo 3d and love it, only thing i dont like is the flimsy backing plate. From reading your post i cant help but ask were you rooted? There are tons of great roms and app mods available in the forums here, all solve numerous issues and improve upon stock in any number of ways.
As far as choosing a phone goes, if you can get a new 3d free I'd stick it out and wait to see what's available withing the coming months, MWC just finished up and there were tons of greats devices announced.
Otherwise GSII gets my vote.

Why do you like your amaze? Or dislike it?

Just wanted to hear some thoughts from the rest of the community.
I personally love my amaze compared to other phones especially the iPhone cuz whenever an iPhone user sees the amaze, well yeah they are _______ by the screen. Also cuz I love the specs and design. Also really am a fan of the community here.

The amaze is mostly a great phone. I enjoy having it a lot, however there is a lot of things about owning the amaze that drive me crazy.
1.small battery and crappy batt life.
2. accessories are a disappointing, for example
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/313doyLhjzL._SL500_AA300_.jpg
Why is this not a dock ? it's an ugly dongle for the phone. It may be a fully functional piece of hardware but dammit does it have to be so ugly and a pita to work with. Just how much desktop space does htc want us to waste with this contraption. The actual desktop dock does nothing but charge the phone ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGG.
3. this is not directly related to the phone it self, but development on the amaze seems really difficult. As I am not a dev I don't ***** or wine at the dev's for this or that feature but the custom kernel's all seem to have one or more issues with wifi, bluetooth, gps, data or something else weird , this is not a complaint just an observation.
One the + side it's been the quickest snappiest phone I have ever used, games are nice and smooth for the most part witch is pretty amazing since the phone is over a year old.
anyway that's my take on the amaze. I wish like hell I could afford a Galaxy note.

Pros: I really like the way the phone looks and the phone's specs as well. By today's standards the phone is still pretty good spec-wise even for a phone that has been out since last year october.
Cons: I agree with you on number 1. The battery life isn't as great as it should be but faux's kernels help a lot. As for what you stated in number 3 you can thank HTC for all of those issues. With them not providing full kernel source code it makes it difficult to build kernels with everything working properly.
Battery: +1
Specs: +1 :good: :good:
HTC:
Design, look and feel: :good: :good: :good:
I came from an iPhone 4 which I regretted for 1 year and 11 months of my two year committment. I jumped the ATT/iPhone ship, bought 2 used Amazes in perfect condition off ebay for my wife and myself and have never looked back.
I find HTC's software developers and customer service to be incredibly frustrating. I emailed them urging a release of the kernel source so the development community could continue to work on HTC's mistakes and further increase my battery life (clearly confrontational). In response they told me to turn off GPS, wifi,, bluetooth, syncing and data, uninstall all 3rd party apps and to not use the phone and in return I would get exceptional battery life. Listen up HTC... for that I will never buy another HTC phone..., so when you guys wonder why the company is going broke due to a massive loss of market share, look in a mirror! Your best source of sales should be repeat buyers!
That said, while battery life was frustrating for the first few months I owned it, thanks to the Devs on XDA (I'm currently running SpeedRom 7.5 and Faux Kernel v18) I rarely worry anymore with fairly heavy daily use.
I find the Amaze's screen, it's looks and its feel to be really appealing, so from the design standpoint I give HTC props (but not enough to overcome its customer service)!
I've played with the Evo 4g LTE as well as the SGS3 and loved them. My friend with the Evo says his battery has always been great, never going below 50% in a day, but he's on Sprint in Los Angeles and only has 3g, so we'll see what he says when they turn on LTE! LOL The SGS3 is a really great phone and in a perfect world where I had no money worries I'd probably own one for a while. Thus, I consider both phones to be superior to the Amaze, but not significantly so.
To sum it up, for me the stock Amaze was a horrible battery draining device that was almost useless, but with a good Rom and Kernel, the phone is just below the top tier of todays best phones, even 11 months after coming out.
I like my Amaze because its MY PHONE....and there is nothing that i dont like about my amaze!! This phone is unbrickable and invincible...ive dropped it like 69 million times it aint got no major scratches yet and runs like a champion!!
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda app-developers app
Yea all the kernels thats been made really really really saves battery life like super tremendously. AGREE 100% on the HTC thing deveoz said also.
It is really surprising that the Amaze still has top of the line specs even though its already more than a year old.
I love my Amaze, HTC tends to do a great job with the hardware, unfortunately they lack on the software development. My thoughts go back to the days of my tytn ii, great specs, crappy software support, they refused to implement hardware acceleration for the gpu making it awful for video playback. Even though I prefer HTC hardware my next phone will be the next Samsung G# or a nexus device.

I got the amaze mid summer. It, the galaxy sii, and the blazewere the only phones that had the right features and price at the time.
The blaze felt too much like my iphone 3gs and had a mediocre camera so I passed. The galaxy sii felt too blocky iand plasticy in my hand and had a lower resolution display than the amaze so i went with the amaze. I'm of mixed feelings on the amaze. It takes great pictures, has a camera button, has a good form factor, has micro sd, has a good slcd screen (no pentile please) and has a removable battery. However the rom development is mediocre and it still has middling battery life for me even with the faux kernel and speed rom 7.5.
The battery life is a big deal to me. If the form factor were better I would buy a mungen battery for it but the amaze is already bulky.
I am waiting to see if the next google phone has a micro sd slot or if htc will release an amaze successor that fixes its issues. Otherwise, I'll stay with the amaze for now. 90% there is better than most phones
Sent from my HTC Ruby using xda app-developers app
I have not found anything I "don't" like about it.
Other than the HORRIBLE battery life *new battery will probably fix my issues*
other than that it's just the "useless" NFC due to no GW support =/
For the people with bad battery, try the anker battery. Since I bought mine the phone has been much better.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
The amaze is okay but I'm stuck with this phone to the battery is horrible the only time I get good battery life is if I have 4g off during my work day. HTC sense is garbage. And I hate how HTC made this phone with the capacitive touch screen light bleed into the screen and the only way to get rid of it is if u root. Really HTC -__-? I can't wait to get another phone lol never again HTC I'm going back to Sammy. I wanted to try out htc cuz I heard they were nice I picked up my amaze in Feb and I got the wrong phone unfortunately lol
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
I recently got my Amaze off ebay for a good price into mint condition I'm coming from my Mytouch 4G I just wanted a bigger phone the Mytouch was feeling to small for me.
PROS
I love HTC build quality even from the N1 the polished aluminum and smooth finish is real classy lol. The phone works great and feels awesome.
The screen is pretty good as well much better resolution over my previous phones.
CONS
Battery life is terrible even before I rooted it and thru on a romper.
Camera is good but pics look a little muddy sometimes.
I wish HTC would've officially updated this still great phone with Sense 4.0
I overall love the phone ill stick to this until HTC releases a phone that will keep me satisfied for another year or two.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda app-developers app
Also for the people who think that the battery is terrible, try out using Speedrom 7.5/7.6, it has the best battery life on the phone with this rom. Believe me it really does...
I bought a Galaxy S III and returned it because I prefer the Amaze. HTC sense is really good and I can tether with the phone very easy. All I had to do is change the APN. I think the HTC build quality is great so my next phone will be from them.
i love the amaze because its the only device with a 100% Stable Speed Rom :3
Design Camera Buttons and weight
I love the overall design, the removable battery etc but most certainly my favorite aspect is the camera buttons.
Yeah speed rom and energy rom make this phone awesome
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
I'm disappointed about it battery life and software supports.

HTC One Still Worth It?

Was looking since Amazon has the HTC One for .01 today, if it was worth it to purchase, I have a GS4 now, but thinking about selling it since I'm bored with it... the HTC One looked nice, just curious if Dev's and such disappeared or what happened =/
I think it's nice. I have them both. The gs4 and One. You can tinker around with the phone and turn it into a stock Google play edition. I still think the sense ui is the best though.

Oh so your not stuck with att HTC one builds that's a plus I know how to build so its not a big deal just trying to figure if I want to make the switch to the HTC one or sg4(which I have) on a diff carrier
Yea you can flash from both threads. Only problem I've seen is you need to be soff to flash the newer gpe builds. Which is really easy to do with rumrunner.

I had to make this choice as well. I ended up trading my ATT Galaxy S4 for my HTC One, and I have no regrets about it. There isn't as much crap bloatware, since HTC really only added a few features to Android. Other than ATT's crap (which is easily gotten rid of) it's a pretty clean OS.
It's got an unlockable bootloader, unlike the ATT S4, so if custom ROMs are your thing, this phone is much better.
As a musician, music quality was important to me. The speaker literally made my jaw drop the first time I heard them. they aren't as good as a set of quality headphones, obviously, and I didn't expect that much. What I really didn't expect was the quality of the speakers and just how good they were. They sound better than those cheap 5 or 10 dollar headphones you can buy anywhere.
Sense UI, as I mentioned, is simple and easy. I personally have really enjoyed Blinkfeed. Zoe is great for pictures.
However, the camera on the S4 is superior in most aspects. I mean, it's 13 MP vs 4 MP (Ultrapixel). The HTC One's isnt BAD, but it isn't great either. It does very well in low light, though. I've taken several pictures of church services (we use a lot of lights and stuff like that) and they come out better on my HTC One than they did on my S4.
The Galaxy is also better in the battery life area. The 2600 mah battery on the S4 beats out the 2300 mah on the HTC One. This can be dealth with though, as I simply put my HTC One in power saver mode, which lowers the clock speed, dims the screen a bit, and tweaks a couple other things, and with regular use(probably 5 or 6 phone calls, texting all day, some gaming, and 2 or 3 hours on the internet) I still go to bed with about 30-40% battery every night.
So, if you want a simpler phone, and one that can be more easily customized and is better for multimedia consumption, I'd say the HTC One is your phone. If you're looking for a phone with features upon features (with a freaking 9GB system file partition) then stay with your S4.
Personally, I definitely love my HTC One way more than I ever did my S4
Running Omni 4.4 Kit Kat on HTC One and I would definitely recommend it and say it is worth it.
I agree with what everyone else has said. It is definitely worth it, and there is a lot of active development.
Do it.
I have only owned HTC phones since day one, my girlfriend has always had to have the Samsung S Whatever. I have played with both and can tell you that you will never regret buying the ONE. It's superior and looks like a man's phone. The S4 is good but the UI is full of smiley faces and bubbles. If you get a S4 you must change the Rom or get a purse to keep it in.

It is for me since my SGS II died a week ago and I need a replacement now. I just ordered the black one from Amazon today. For $30 +tax, it's a good deal. I just hope I won't be disappointed with the camera. I considered the Moto X, but the unlocking restrictions on AT&T turned me off to it (and the 16GB limit).
