Problem with baseband, No Calls - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! This is my device
Device: Samsung Galaxy S2 gti9100
ROM: CM10.1 nightly 20130610
Android Version: 4.2.2
So I was having some trouble with my 3G, I was only getting 2G. So I decidded to flash a new baseband, which I found on here: http://d-h.st/users/ApriliaM3/?fld_id=7487#files
With this, I successfully got my 3G on, also 2G. But the problem now is that I can't make any calls!
No sure if its a baseband problem since I have 2G and 3G from carrier. Can anyone help me?
Thanks!

You haven't told us which modem you flashed (Tho it doesn't matter that much given you're going to have to change it anyway).
OK. You need to be methodical to fix this. So...
1) Start with stock roms released by your carrier. Find out which modems were bundled with those stock roms, and flash/test those first. Rationale behind this is you'd hope your carrier would have fully tested their stock roms before they release them including the modem, to ensure that the modem works with their network most of the time & in most places.
Still having problems ?
2) Stock roms released by other carriers in your country. Find out which modems were bundled with those stock roms. Flash/test those.
Still having problems ?
3) Flash/test every other modem bundled with every stock rom released by every carrier who sold the I9100 you can get your hands on (there are dozens).
And now that I think of it, if it were me in this situation & the problems persist after trying 1 (the modems bundled with your carrier's stock roms), I'd probably do a clean install of the rom I was using including a wipe/nuke in case there's something funky rom-side causing it.
If you're still having problems having done all that, you might want to do a clean install of stock & start with modems bundled with stock roms released by your carrier to rule in/out a CM problem.
And if it's still happening with a clean install of stock & using the modems bundled with your carrier's roms (which every 'ordinary' user who uses the SGS2 with your carrier & is running stock and doesn't mod their phone uses & has no connectivity issues most likely), it's either a carrier-side issue or a hardware problem.

What happend was you flashed modem/ril. Dont flash ril on custom rom. Bye bye imei. Have a look. Settings, about device, , status look for imei see of its blank.

are here some bob-austria-users using cm on the sgs2?
which modem do you use?
i have so much trouble with my data connection and even sometimes with gsm...

Goto http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9100 and look for the BOB/A1 Austria code (ATO). Click the link and you'll see that XWLPW was the latest Samsung ROM for the i9100.
Download it, flash it, look for the modem that goes with it, reflash your CM10.1 backup*, download the modem, done.
You'll now have the modem of your provider. This should be "the best". However, "the best" is a relative thing: what is the best for you, may not be the best for someone else. The only way to find out for yourself is to test signal strength and data speed in different locations and at different times. Possibly you're in a low reception region. And when you're roaming, a totally different modem may be best for you.
Or ask in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950.
Modem XXLQ6 and XXLPS were good to me. Try them. Now I'm testing an old modem of my provider (see my signature).
CM doesn't come with a modem, since it is used all over the world with lots of providers. If you're clever enough to flash a custom ROM, you'll be clever enough to find your modem
Maybe there is a modem/RIL mismatch. Install GetRIL free and flash a matching RIL. See also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1187681 and http://eric10234.wordpress.com/2012/10/23/samsung-galaxy-s2-i9100-jellybean-cm10-real-ril-crash/. Don't be scared about the RIL crash thing. It only happened to me with LS6 modem and/or RIL.
*When using stock Samsung, you maybe first have to flash a rooted kernel to get CWM Recovery. Use the method described in the CM9 thread or just flash the whole CM9 ROM using the Odin method.
Tip: when asking for help, always give information that is related to your problem.
So: what modem are you using; what modems have you already tried and what were the results; are you still on CM9 as your signature is suggesting? Also give general information like phone model (obvious), ROM name and version (saying latest nightly is silly, always name the date), modifications.
Edit: just finished downloading the XWLPW A1 Samsung ROM, extracted modem.bin, entered a hex editor, searched for the string xxl and found the text "120626.I9100XXLQ6". So I'm assuming that modem XXLQ6 comes with A1 Austria.
thank you for the detailed explanation...
i will see into it..

[Q] Galaxy S II Modem

Hello everyone
I have a SGS II GT-i9100T which is a gift from my brother from New Zealand.
I´m running CM 10.1.3 and sometimes my signal drops, "Emergency calls only"! I´ve tested the Simcard on other phone and it´s fine.Could anyone suggest me a modem to flash to my phone?
I´m living in Germany and using O2-de.
Thank you.
Here is some info in case you need them:
i am not very sure whether geographical location affects modem or not, but there was a country based thread for India. They have some popular modems listed out here -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/general/i9100-modem-reviews-india-user-based-t2184193
You can get flashable modems here - http://veyka.co.uk/sgs2/radios/
have fun testing them.
Forget the fact you're in Germany; stick to modems bundled with stock roms released by carriers who sold the I9100T. Go to Samfirmware, use the pulldown boxes to make a list of all the stock roms released by carriers which sold the I9100T (there aren't many). If you click through each stock rom in turn it will list the modem - make a list of all the modems. Then search for CWM flashable versions of these modems on here (easily found with a search), download them, and start testing them out.
Only if you get to the point where you've tried all of these modems & they don't improve your connectivity should you consider flashing regular I9100 modems (I know this because I have an I9100T).
You might also be suffering from a long standing problem with CM roms where connectivity just goes away for no particular reason at all. The way you'd test if this is the case or not is to do a clean install of a stock rom released by a carrier which sold the I9100T (doesn't matter which, but don't flash 4.0.4).
I missed on seeing that the phone involved here is i9100T. My Bad.
Apologies for feeding you wrong info here.
sorry for "ruining" this thread, but:
1. How to know what the best modem is for you (I live in the netherlands).
2. Can you flash a modem on any android version? (I'm on carbon 4.4.2 rom).
3. Is it safe like rom flashing?
^^^
1) The way I always tell people to approach this is similar to what I said to the OP; go to Samfirmware, find all the stock roms released by your carrier, click through on each one & make a note of the modem. Search here/Google for CWM flashable versions of each modem, and test them out. If you find you go through all the ones bundled with stock roms released by your carrier & your connectivity is still bad, do the same with modems bundled with stock roms released by other carriers in your country. If your connectivity is still bad after that, flash any modem you can get your hands on.
But for most people, modems bundled with stock roms released by their carrier should work best; rationale being you'd hope the carrier would have fully tested them to ensure they work for most people most of the time on their network.
If your connectivity is currently fine, there's no need to go messing around with modems. Chances are you'll make it bad if you do I.E if it ain't broke don't fix it. Only mess around with modems if you have problems with connectivity.
2) Yes, modems are independent of Android version.Same risk as flashing anything else (I.E very small risk of the flash going bad with any given flash).
3) Risk should be minimal; I've never heard of anyone borking a phone with a modem misflash, but anything is possible I guess.

Data connection lost since last night

Hi.
This morning I realized that I had no data connection in my SGS2. No E, no 3G, no H, no H+. Unable to connect to the internet. WiFi works seamlessly.
I was using SlimKat (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/orig-development/rom-slimkat-i9100-t2552988) and no significant changes were made yesterday.
Inmediately I thought that I had no data available in my prepaid card. I checked with my provider (Lycamobile NL) and there were connections till 20:00 aprox, when I got home and hooked to the wifi. Nothing in the mornig. Data available in my account. I have tried the SIM in a different phone and works perfectly. I can make and receive phone calls, as send and receive SMS messages.
Thinking that it could be a problem with the rom I've installed PacMan (same result) and currently have installed last NeatROM. Same result.
I've also traveled to France, where I'm now: with a Lebara FR SIM that I've just toped-up I get the same annoying result: no data.
Data connections are enabled under Settings --> More... --> Mobile network settings, as it's also enabled the National data roaming. APNs are correctly configured and selected.
No software was installed neither settings changed neither in PacMan nor NeatROM.
A mistery.... any clue?
Clean install of stock to test in the first instance, then a clean install of the rom you were using. Could be the 'connectivity just goes away for no particular reason at all' thing I used to see on AOSP roms all the time when I ran them on my S2 (and was the reason I stopped using them).
You could also try flashing modems; starting with modems bundled with stock roms released by the carrier you're currently using.
It could still also quite easily be a carrier-side issue despite what you've said/checked. Everyone (on here) always thinks it's a phone-side issue when connectivity is poor/changes/non-existent, 80% of the time it's carrier-side.
Thanks four the advice MistahBungle. I'll try with stock.
On the other hand, the carrier issue is discarded:
- same SIM works in a different phone, in sake physical location.
- a different SIM, different carrier, different country, shoes the same behavior in the phone
Sends to me that that's a phone thing...

Yep more than likely something phone-side with that extra info you've provided. Try those suggestions & see how you go.
In my case it was waterlogged mainboard issue. I don't think that's the case with you but still, even after trying all the above you still face the same then the antenna module would be worth checking.
Praying for your s2's soul and your pockets
Restoring Stock firmware (I9100XWMS3_I9100FOPLS6_FOP) didn't help. ((
Now I'm completely lost... (((
Try flashing some modems for your area/device.

That's because you didn't read my post. I did suggest two other things, which Banjara helpfully/unnecessarily repeated.
If you want this issue resolved, it's going to take some effort on your part.
Just installed PacMan stable release (milestone 1).
Apart from the same behavior with the data connection, the browser does not launch.
Installing Resurection Remix right now. Let's see.
Just installed Resurrection Remix and same behavior.
Trying to find AOSP KK modems now, if possible from Netherlands network providers, ideally from KPN.
I have a question:
If I have flashed a AOSP rom (i.e. Resurrection Remix) which is KitKat, can I flash a stock modem wich is Jelly Bean?
I'm asking so because you adviced me to flash modems bundled in stock roms (which for I9100 stop at 4.1.2) on a AOSP rom (which is 4.4.2 kitkat)
Thank you for your support.

AFAIK,Modem is not dependent of the android version for u so u can flash the modem .
Yes u can downgrade from 4.4.2 to 4.1.2 (but perform all the necessary wipes before doing the downgrade)
it worked!!!
Flashing modem.bin from the stock 4.1.2 on the Resurection Remix worked )))
Thanks MistahBungle and the others for the support!!!
Let's see now if it works also with NeatROM!!
Thanks again!!!
FYI, NeatROM worked as well!!!

Have you checked your apn settings?

[Q] Issues with radio firmware

Hi,
I have an issue with the radio of my phone. When I switch to 3G, I get a weak signal varying between one and a max of 3 bars. The phone gets heated up and the battery starts draining. Please find below the device and OS that I am using
Device: Samsung Galaxy S2
OS: CM M12
Base band: I9100DDLP8
Location: Bangalore, India
I have inserted my Sim in a different phone and have found that nothing is wrong with the connectivity in the area. I have no issues when I switch to 2G. I have tried flashing various modems and RILs but in vain. I have also tried using the Getril app to correct the issue but without much success.
Here is what I have tried and noticed
1) Flashed the modem DDLS9 and DDLPB. The 3G signal strength is good when I flashed these modems but I am unable to make or receive calls. I have flashed the RIL along with the modem.
2) On trying the modems XXLS6, XXLS8, XXLS9 and XXKH3, nothing has changed and I still got the weak 3G signal though am able to make and receive calls.
I have also tried flashing a stock rom (Jelly bean) but the issue was still there.
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance
As you have tried all the radios for the location already, I am not going to suggest you to do that.
However, I am interested in knowing when did the phone start showing signs of weak 3g signal? Did it happen one day suddenly or did you make any changes to software/hardware which might have triggered it?

It started happening after I switched to Cyanogenmod 11 M1. I was under an impression that the issue is with the connectivity until I tried my sim card on a different phone.
I will suggest you to flash the stock ROM or some other ROM.

Tried installing the stock rom but it didn't work.
Number one thing I also say about modems and rils, never use getril. Are you trying to flash jelly bean stock rom? If you haven't yet, try flashing it as it will also flash the stock modem too. If yes, try finding older versions of the compatible baseband firmware (or modem) and try flashing it. (Yes, you can flash older modems that originated from ics or jellybean).
