Rooted Software Update - AT&T HTC One (M7)

So my phone downloaded the update at&t released today, but it just boots into twrp recovery... is there a way i can locate this update and install it manually ? What's the trick to updating a rooted phone? I am on stock.

No it isn't possible
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta

So i can't install a newer version of the stock software if i am rooted? can i like unroot and then do it ? heh

To install an ota you need to be completely stock. Not rooted, no bloatware removed and be using stock recovery.

Wait just a second
Update, At&t released a update., what update
Anxiously runs to phone, checks both AT&T and HTC software updates, nuthin, nada, zilch, goes back to coffee, now depressed and out of sorts, gonna call in sick
Hmmm, if your rooted, and running twrp, your technically not stock.

I just posted an easy unroot zip I made for a friend who has the same issue as you.
Going with this thread, how can you get the OTA again?

The main reason i want the update so i can use Spigen glass tr protector.... ;/ The stock is very clean and runs great.. there has to be a way to update it somehow... Since my phone downloaded the update it means its stored somewhere?? can't i use recovery to install the update ? Now i understand that might break root prob but then re root ? just thinking outloud here. What is the best rom tha is a smooth as stock or even smoother with better battery life? trick or revolution ? those seem to be the popular ones

if you're stock rooted and want what the update gives you, just install this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291908
you can flash right over your stock rom and not have to wipe or lose anything.

Im just curious as to what a update has to do with a screen protector
Fyi
You cant install the update without being 100% stock, theres a ruu posted in here thats the current firmware and recovery

The glass screen protectors didn't work well with older software because the capacitive button sensitivity was messed up. The latest att firmware fixed them

You can't install updates when rooted. End of story

I probably want to get all the OTA updates out of the way before unlocking and rooting right???

So if I flash this it should have everything that's included in the att OTA update? Is this supposed to be the new sense 5.0 and 4.2 android update, or is it just maintenance? Thanks.

That's actually your build number, which is fine. You need to look at your system version. It should be something like 6.11.744.XT910 or something along those lines.
Check that and report back.
the version is 651.73.19.XT910.NonEFIGSRetail.en.EU

you don't have an update yet.
The recent update for the XT910 was only for the 651.73.15, .16, .17, .18 versions.
It looks like Bulgaria is not on the list, and it might be because of the language on the phone.
The update was recent, December 31st, so you may see it being sent OTA soon, but for now, it looks like you're up to date.
Thanks. So for now I cant put any roms ?
Hi, Just received my new Razr today in U.K. Had OTA update to 651.73.30.en.eu. All downloaded fine.

No, you should be able to still put ROM's on there.
Just to make sure, you're rooted, right??
I believe there are no fastboot files yet for the .19 version, at least that's what I was reading, so instead of just straight loading a ROM on top of this, I would go the safestrap route. This will allow you to load a secondary ROM and access both.
My understanding is while the .18 & .19 versions are different, they're not so different it will block you from loading a ROM.
It should be the same process as ever, root, safestrap, then enable safestrap mode, and flash the ROM.
If you get an error, report back and let me know what it is, and I MIGHT be able to help you through it.

just install motocast on your PC, plug your RAZR in and check for device updates and it will update your device to xxxxx.30 version...works for all people I gave advice to...and I previously had xxxxx.19 version...I am from Europe-Czech republic
better performance and battery is now usable for 2 whole days with wifi on...

Follow the downgrade instructions, root it, bootstrap it and use all the roms you want. I think that's what you need to do.

I rooted, best way to keep up to date?

As it says I rooted my phone, a samsung galaxy S3 through Sprint. I know I am not supposed to accept OTA updates, so whats the best way to keep up to date? Is there a sneaky thread somewhere? When I get the updates I assume I just flash them with odin and all will be good no interference with root access?
Thanks for the help.

Whenever updates are released, usually developers will incorporate them in their roms, and if you are just running stock, then usually someone will release the stock rom with latest update that will still keep you rooted.

I am just running rooted stock. Any good place to keep track of that info?
depends on update
it depends on the update as to whether you would need to get it or not.
the 2 updates so far sprint has put out have been ok,
several instructions are out there to help with install if rooted.
won't work if you have Clockworkmod as the recovery though, unless incorperated into the ROM

I have not worked with a custom rom before, though I am not opposed to doing so. What should I know about customer roms? I heard that CM9 was out for the S3 what do think of that as a custom mod.

Firmware update

Can we take firmware update if rooted and s on?
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
From what I've been told and understand, never ever take an update from the carrier. All the good stuff will be extracted and the bad left out with the next update of whatever ROM you are running... usually if not, find another ROM

You will lose root. Never take a firmware update (from what I've read) Only update profile and prl.

Are you able to go s-off? Sounds like you might be since you haven't taken any OTAs of course depending on when your got your phone too. If so then you should do it.
There are ways to upgrade your firmware without taking it via OTAs.
There are several threads in development that address your concerns.

Firmware upgrade a must ?
Hi, I would love to try the MeanBean2.4 ROM, I understand that a firmware upgrade would be a must ? I'm on Viper4G2.0.2 ROM and if I do a firmware update I'm sure my Viper4g rom will not load or run correctly. Is there a way to reverse a firmware update ? Can I do it via my installed TWRP 2.3.3 ? Currently I have S-Off Lazy Panda, Hboot 1.12.111, Radio 1.02.12.0427.
I like the Viper4G ROM, but getting old, has minor issues, got Gogole now working on my Viper rom but can't update via Play Store..no big issues, but I would still like to have the option to go back to this ROM. I did a full backup (Sys,Data,Boot,Recovery,Cache) via TWRP. Would a restore fix any mess created by firmware attempt ? Could I even get to TWRP after firmware update or a botched update ?
Any input would be greatly appreciated
Regards,
Julian

Reverting your firmware will indeed brick you AFAIK and you should be able to run Viper4G with the new firmware when I updated my firmware I was running an ICS rom I didn't notice any problems.

Can you post the OTA
Is it safe to assume that the OTA would fail if I'm S-Off with TWRP installed? I just S-off'd & rooted last night. Still running the stock ROM. Haven't made any other modifications other than uninstall a few preloaded apps.
What folder do I find the ota, so we can get this thing rooted?

IF youve already updated, the ota usually gets deleted after/during the reboot....if you postpone and reboot itll be either in the root of your storage or in downloads...

Worth LP upgrade now or wait for OTA?

I've recently switched the G3 but using it on straight talk so root actually helped me get rid of the "unknown sim" icon. It looks like theres no root for Lollipop yet so im wondering if it would be worth upgrading to lollipop now or waiting for OTA and hoping root is figured out by then

The OTA that's out is definitely not official. And yes, no root. Not sure if there ever WILL be a root for the official OTA once it comes out since it has to be done by an exploit, and LP has made exploits even harder to find.
I myself am staying on KK. I must have root for Titanium Backup. That's basically all I have root for and without it, I cannot restore my app settings, so until a root exploit is found for the official OTA (once it comes out), then I'll go to Lollipop possibly. But even with the current unofficial OTA, there are various issues with LP.
Might want to wait until 5.1 (if we ever get it for the G3) comes out as 5.0.1 still have a major memory leak in it.

Yup. Just saw that. That's good, but maybe not that good. How much you want to bet that exploit gets patched before the official OTA comes out?
Really wish they would have waited for the official OTA to come out before releasing the exploit.

Magic search the general section and you will find the wand you search. Works great BTW!

I've recently switched the G3 but using it on straight talk so root actually helped me get rid of the "unknown sim" icon. It looks like theres no root for Lollipop yet so im wondering if it would be worth upgrading to lollipop now or waiting for OTA and hoping root is figured out by then

I would wait... All I can say is that there will be a stock/rooted LP ROM very soon.
Xposed won't work with our phones on 5.0. I found that out the hard way. Saw the post in the developer's section that they're still trying to figure it out. Back to KK for me as there's functions of xposed that I need to have. A whole lot of tinkering today and I wound up right back where I was lol
