[Q] Notification sounds - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there an app out there that allows me to attach different notification sounds for different types of notifcation. For example, I want it to play a different sound for email than it does for SMS.
I've had a look at Tasker in the sticky but it looks to complicated for a complete NOOB like me.
I've done a search in this forum but couldn't easily find anything that helped.
I'm running unrooted 4.2.2.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi there man,
all you need to do is set the notification from the app itself.
for example gmail: go to settings>[email protected]>notification and change to whatever you'd like.
If you wanna add different types of notifications you can either use an app from playstore like "zedge" or copy to your device in the path: /sdcard/notifications

Cheers, I'll try that

You might try the app Light Flow. In addition to changing led lights it can also change the sound notifications of apps. It's available in Google Play and the paid version has the notification sounds manager.

Notification Sound

Where can I configure sounds to be different for email vs sms/txt messages?
When you open email and go to settings you will be able to set whatever tone you want and the same applies to sms (again go into settings)
Thanks. What do you guys use as notification noises?
Use anything you want. Google "Zedge" they have hundreds on there and you'll be spoilt for choice, and its free.

Android Exhibition Mode (touchstone)

This is an attempt to get some better understanding of how the exhibition mode works in CM7 based roms for the Touchpad. So far I know that when you put the TouchPad on the TouchStone, it opens up the clock. Some people have been asking how to disable that. After some googling, I came upon this error on the cmtouchpad issue log:
http://code.google.com/p/cmtouchpad/issues/detail?id=149
Posts 7 and 12 seem to give advice how to turn off the exhibition mode.
You apparently have to create or edit the file:
/data/local/userinit.sh
to add the line:
echo 1 > /sys/module/a6/parameters/disable_dock_switch
I personally don't want to do this, but I thought some others might find it handy. What I am interested in is figuring out how to change what app is brought up when you place the TP on the TS. Input/ ideas?
There is a free app that disables it.

Also Alarm Clock Plus lets you pick which app launches on docking. It also lets you disable it. I read tasker does too, but I don't use that app.

It's just an app. If you download another app that identifies as a dock app, when you dock again you'll get the option to set the default docking app.
I haven't tried many, desk clock plus is one that lets you play music, display photos etc.

It's the identifying as a dock app that I want to learn more about, i.e. can I force an app to be brought up that does not have the option integrated into it? There must be some xml file to edit that you can specify additional apps to be brought up when docking.
I do not want to install an app to do this. (an app to launch another app)

You just don't want to use alarm clock plus? You can specify any installed app to start when docked through that app. You get the desired result, I must be missing the negative.

I just think it is silly to have an app activate an app based on a notification rather than be able to customize either the notification or the app I want to use directly. This is xda-developers, I want to develop dammit, not be restricted to the norm of how it should act
small apps
I found the following info on rootzwiki.. try at your own risk :good:
I use the following to replicate the photo frame exhibition mode from webos
1. antek app manager (free) - freeze the clock to disable it - optional
2. photo slides(free) - to display photos as in a slideshow (you can us any app you want)
3. settings profile lite(free) - added a rule ( condition = dock and action = start app photo slides.photo frame when condition met and kill app on condition exit)
as soon as I put on touchstone starts displaying photos and when I pick up the touchpad goes to home screen

[Q] Whatsapp messages on lockscreen

Hi all,
is it possible to display new whatsapp messages directly on lockscreen? (like on ios? Display lights up if new message comes in and i can read message directly on lockscreen, thats what I want.
Bought some apps but nothing works fine :-(
Sorry for my poor Englisch...
For directly showing message on lock screen it depends on the ROM I think.
Is there any rom for my desire hd available?
I am using virtous quattro with ics at the moment.
You need to post this there.. I don't have desire. So, can't say.
I think widget locker is what you need. I use handcent for sms, and it gets through the lockscreen just like you describe.

The lockscreen code is either part of the framework.jar or the systemui... and if the device is not rooted, you cannot change it.
If you are a programmer, what you could try is to create a new window (for example with the WindowManagerImpl hidden class) trying different window types: window types define the layer where the window will be placed. For some window types you might need some special permission (for example I think TYPE_SYSTEM_OVERLAY will be placed above lockscreen, and it needs the SYSTEM_DIALOG permission)
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Currently there isn't an (lockscreen-)app that allows that. If you are a programmer you can always try to make it yourself, like mentioned above. But be warned, it's going to be a hell to create it
I´m not a Android programme
There is an option in the settings of whatsapp "turn on the pop up messages" check that box n u are good to go
i know this option, but it´s still behind the lockscreen...
Hey guys!!
This pop-up message, allows you to answer the message even with the lock screen. I think it's a lack of security because anyone can answer it if you forget your phone somewhere.
I've already try to talk with the developers of Whatsapp, but with no success.
On iphone you can only read and unlock to answer.
That's right, the popup feature when set to 'always' or 'only when screen off' shows messages and I think even allows replying from the lockscreen. You can't go view the full convo without unlocking though. This is the way it works at least in the latest beta from http://www.whatsapp.com/android/

[Q] System Sounds?

Ok, has anyone been able to figure out how to change the notification sound of the built in Email client? (Not Gmail). It's an annoying bell and I see no option anywhere to change it. I've been through the system settings AND through the email settings -- maybe I am missing something.
Also, is there a way to change the water sounds to the regular Android sounds?
Thanks in advance!!
Not sure about email client but to change to android sounds u need to root.
Extract ringtones u want from a different Rom...ie an S2 ics Rom for example.
Then use root explorer to place new tones in /system/media/audio/ringtones.
Reboot and the new tones should show up in settings for u to select. .
Hope this helps.

Mine show up under the email settings...
Open the e-mail>>settings>> select the email address that you have added... scroll to the bottom... Notification settings...
This is a per e-mail account setting so they are "hidden" under each attached account

Thanks! I'm already rooted, but there is no option to change touch tone sounds, even if I added more to the directory.

So basically it's just like the Gmail settings then? Cool. Thanks.
Found them, they are all in the UI directory. One controls touch, one is for back, etc. They all have to be changed in order to get rid of the 'water' sounds.
It's called: /system/media/audio/ui/
The two files I have found so far are:
TWTouch.ogg
S_HW_Touch.ogg
Now if I could just find the standard Android touch tones somewhere.

Are you tired of stock notification sound

Hi XDA community
So I found I got a bit bored of the stock notification ringtones & I also found that there weren't really any satisfying "ringtone" application on the Play Store.
I did some browsing & I found a brilliant website dedicated to giving people endless amounts of unique, free & short notification sound clips.
A way you can set your downloaded clips as a ringtones is put the file on your phone, preferably in your usually "music" folder if you don't have one the create one. Then I use Ringtone Maker which is free from the Play Store.
Open Ringtone Maker and find your audio clip, once you've found it click the green button on the right and then select advance. Once you are there you can select what you want to use the music file as e.g alarm, ringtone, notification etc.
So that's my story
Enjoy and please push that thanks button!
or you can install Zedge from the market which has all the ringtones, wallpaper and notification sounds you ned for free, they also have a web site too, but if you install the app you can change all sounds easy as once you download them, you go to the sound you want to change and it has zedge as an option there.

I don't like Zedge because of the permissions you accept when you download it and because the actually content is no good in my opinion.

I can understand if you are scared of giving Zedge too many permissions, but not enough content? They have millions and millions of sound files... you can't find any you like?
