I just noticed this issue today, and I'm not sure how or where it's coming from. While I am connected to T-Mobile's mobile network (4G or 2G), my HTC One is unable to load any unsecured http websites EXCEPT the desktop version of T-mobile's website (the mobile site does not work). Oddly enough, any secure website (https,mobile or desktop) works just fine. When I attempt to browse an unsecure website, the page just loads up blank. This issue is also affecting certain apps - presumably ones that use unsecure http connections (things like Facebook work fine).
Everything works fine while on Wi-Fi. The only error message I can get from anything is from the Play Store; when I attempt to update an app, I get a message saying that an error occurred (406). I don't know if this is an HTTP error or not, but it might be.
I have tried the following troubleshooting steps: uninstalling any third-party apps that may be interfering with the issue, resetting browser to defaults, trying different web browsers (Dolphin, Opera, Chrome, and Firefox), switching APNs, reseating the SIM card, resetting phone to factory defaults. All of this has proved unsuccessful. Is it safe to assume that this problem is on T-Mobile's end? I feel like I've ruled out everything else. I have contacted T-Mobile about this issue, but they had to do a trouble ticket and won't be getting back to me for a bit.
Has anyone ever encountered this before? If so, what did you do to resolve it? Thanks very much for your time.

Hi Experts,
Sorry if I sound a little crude and maybe a novice(I am), but I have been a Symbian user so far and finally decided to take the plunge to Android. I received my HTC Hero a couple of days back and tried to connect to Android Market with my google account, but in vain. Tried to use the Google Mail app, but again failed. Am I missing something here? Tried to use HTC Sync with my lappy, but no success.
Provider: Orange UK.
Connectivity: Wifi (No data plan on Sim)
Laptop OS: Win 7 64-bit (connecting usin USB cable)
I have read a lot of threads on xda and on the internet and tried quite a few things, but no success.
Thanks in advance,
Jag
Closing thread as there is another one though not for UK. Will wait for that to resolve.

I had the same problem, and some packet sniffing showed that Android tries to contact google on port 5228/tcp. Our work wifi firewalls non-standard ports, presumably this is why I cannot download from the market (Hangs forever at "starting download") or sign into gtalk over wifi. Switching to 3G data, everything works fine (though the Market stalls a lot).
I had an issue where it wouldn't accept my details unless I entered them in on the initial setup screen.
i.e. if I skipped past the "set up google mail" bit, and went back later, it didn't work.
workaround was reverting to factory install and making sure to enter my account details at the start (and I used wifi since I was in my home, so it should definately work)
It worked for me after i manually set the APN for my carrier.
Please same problem, HTC Magic 32B Ion 1.6, how can I do?
Yes you should always try to log into google at the very start otherwise some problems can be caused.

All OK!
I did a wipe and all ok
How am I supposed to do this after a factory reset if I connect thru wifi, since I must first enable wifi radio and then put a password, so that means I would have to skip the "wizard" so that defeats the purpose of factory resetting everything... please help.
Solved
Logically, what you say is right, but practically it actually worked
1) after the factory reset, i get the google signin screen,
at that moment, my wifi wont be enabled.....but still i went ahead and entered the username and
password and clicked the signin button
as expected it throwed a message saying "it cant connect"
along with it it also said may be you are not on wifi with a
"connect to wifi button", which will take to the wifi screen where you can connect to wifi and it comes back to the google signin screen, where you login again....
.............there you go it signs in successfully now.
Hope this helps
I have this same issue on my galaxy s. Even factory reset and singing in at the beginning doesnt help. What should i do?

Hi
I am facing the same problem with my device (Galaxy S2). I am able to surf web with the stock phone browser using wifi, but apps won't connect. Apps connect only through GPRS.
I was wondering if you were able to resolve the issue. Could you please help me ?
Anyone else has a solution to this problem.
My phone has the stock firmware, purchased the phone today.
Apps have never worked over wifi, but the browser works.
Cannot download anything on wifi, for that only my GPRS/3G works.
Please help
I have been using my desire for over a year and it has been great, but now I also have this problem of no market or google mail over my WiFi. I was going to do a factory reset and start again, but after reading the posts on this thread this may not resolve the problem.
Has anyone found a fix for this problem
I have this problem too. I doubt it's the manufacture deliberately use its stock sbf to stop people using wifi to save data bandage. So they can make more money with the mobile operators!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1281034
me too I guess
well i was having a similar problem(would connect to wifi, the browser worked but not the apps).in my case, i have my router setup with the dhcp server off(you have to assign an static ip address manually to every device you that you are going to connect to the router) i solved my problem by enabling the "use static ip" check box and filling all the information(ip address, gateway, netmask, dns 1 and dns 2)on the advance settings tab in wifi settings.
Hi Friends,
Few days a go as I was watching youtube videos for around 45 minutes continuously through the youtube app. The streaming suddenly paused and never continued from that point. I tried other videos but it kept on buffering (the circle kept on spining and nothing happened, as noticed on the leds of wifi router it seemed youtube app is not using the net but when i search for more videos the thumbnail do showup normally).
To over come this issue i tried reflashing. This happened when i was on the new HyperDroid_v4.0 with Pongster's MattedBlack v4.0 Surgeons which is amazing for battery saving.
I then tried reflashing HyperDroid_v4.0 again after formatting /cache /system /data /sdcard /emmc which wiped everything, but still no avail.
Then i again tried reflashing DarkyROM2 XXKH3 BASE (2.3.4) formatting everything but still no luck at all.
I even tried these flashing after Factory data reset selecting Format USB storage as well .
When i do the flashing everything else seems to be working fine as usual except the youtube playback and android market doesn't download, like i said for the youtube app, everything like searching the apps, browsing through apps details works fine except it doesn't download at all. It shows as if it's downloading but it stays as is forever.
Very sorry if same question was posted before this as i couldn't find like it.
I have been trying to fix this for 2 days in a row but still no luck.
Has anyone come across this same issue.
Please help.
Thank you very much in advance..
Update:The problem was finally solved after again formatting /cache /system /data /sdcard /emmc and flashed stock ROM though Odin and then I installed DarkyROM tool and then flashed DarkyROM2_KI3_Base ROM.
I will soon jump to HyperDroid_v4.0 with Pongster's MattedBlack v4.0 Surgeons again as it has superb battery life.
I will be updating you guys if the same problem persist.
Thank you all
Hello everyone!
Although I am not using GS2 (I have a Galaxy Note), I chose to post here because I didn't want to create a new post and I believe this is not a device-specific issue (see below for why).
I have the exact same problem as OP (as far as I can see). When I got my note less than a week ago, everything was working great. Then, last Friday I noticed that I cannot download anything from the market. After choosing to download something (both paid or free), after clicking "accept & download" at the permission screen, the screen goes back to app screen and market shows the app as "downloading..." with working, yet empty, progress bar. Everything else using the internet works fine - browsing from different browsers, notifications, email etc. I even tried installing an alternative market app, and it would download/install apps no problem. Also, downloading straight .apk files works as well. Later that evening I also noticed youtube app doesn't work - just the "loading" circle keeps running, until it times out. Browsing/searching market/youtube works without a problem. I am using the stock ROM and it isn't even rooted. Later, following some suggestions from google searches on the problem, it turns out that downloads work when I disable network and let it use mobile internet. I also later found out that it works on other wifi networks, just not my home wifi (which used to work perfectly, with no configuration changes to the router).
Next day I also found out that my girlfriend's android (LG Optimus Me P350) has the same exact problem, therefor it is not a phone model specific problem.
Here is what I tried so far:
Factory reset - left me with no apps and no way to re-download them. The market download did work ONCE after the reset, but that was to download the update to the market itself, nothing else;
Clearing Download Manager data - worked for ONE download. At first it worked for one download every time, meaning, after clearing download manager data, I was able to download one app, after that it would go back to the problem. I could then clear data again, and it would again download one app. After about 5 apps downloaded this way, this solution won't work at all anymore;
Force closing/clearing data of market, gmail, talk (in combination with above step) - didn't work;
Signing out/in to gmail and/or talk - didn't work;
Changing google account in market - didn't work;
Stopping/starting download countless times - didn't work;
Switching wifi on/off - only starts downloading briefly when phone switches to 3G while wifi is off. As soon as it gets wifi connection back, the download stalls at the position it was until I switch wifi off again (so it can continue to use 3G);
Switching phone to airplane mode, off/on, then disabling airplane mode - didn't work;
Changing phone's DNS records with an app to OpenDNS - didn't work;
Updating router firmware - didn't work;
Resetting router firmware - didn't work;
Setting port triggering on router for port 5228 - didn't work;
Port forwarding to Note IP for same port - didn't work;
Disabling router firewall - didn't work;
My router is Linksys E1000.
I think that is all I tried. I have been trying to find a solution for the whole weekend, and nothing as far. Searching google makes me believe that many people have had the same problem. I have found many solutions, which don't work, or only work once. This problem is really, really irritating. Also, I have found out that for many people the problem seems to randomly disappear without doing anything after some time (days to months), sometimes coming back and sometimes not. I experienced this myself when after going to sleep, I was able to download one app in the morning with no tried "fixes" at that time. This also makes me believe that there are many "fake" solutions, which did work for some people, but not for others - quite possibly, while these people were "solving" the problem, it actually solved itself, yet because the person did something, he/she believes that was the solution. A notable example of this could be "google account 24-hour reset" where users experiencing the problem are suggested to log out of their google accounts everywhere and not use the account for anything for 24 hours. Seeing as this is possibly a problem somehow connected to another device, not just the phone itself, I did consider flashing DD-WRT on my router, but I wouldn't really want do do that since my router is not that powerful and with all the DD-WRT features my broadband speed gets capped at about 65Mbit/s. Still a lot, but I have a great internet connection and am able to get real speeds of about 90Mbit/s with stock router firmware.
If anyone has any ideas, please share Thank you in advance!
Just a quick reply - I contacted my apartment building network tech, and he said that they didn't do anything regarding the internet that day, but they did however do something to offer TV service to residents (edit: The TV network shares the same hardware as internet's). He said that it shouldn't have changed anything regarding internet, but he would look into it. A few hours later everything is working.
Of course, it could be one of those cases where the problem disappears with no apparent reason, but I guess they did something to fix it. So, if you are experiencing the same problem (market downloads not working and youtube app not playing videos), and you have tried everything else (preferably confirmed the problem persists on someone elses phone), I would suggest you start going up the chain to whoever is managing your network (after yourself). If at all possible, try getting wifi access through someone else who is using the same ISP/network - if the problem persists even when connected to another AP/Router, it's pretty sure the ISP or network is to blame.
Hope this helps someone, since I wasted a few days on this
Hey Guys,
I just purchased a Prime 201 and am having serious issues that i was hoping someone could help me with.
After getting home i switched it on and let it go through the standard setup routine where i was asked for my google credentials and to connect to a wireless network. As part of this process an updated firmware version was detected and automatically installed (I'm assuming the update to jellybean)
Once this was complete i attempted to use the device but instantly started having problems with the playstore and connecting to certain web sites.
1. I can connect to the playstore fine but cannot download any updates or new applications. The downloading screen appears but downloads never actually start
2. Through the browser i can connect to certain websites such as cnn.com or microsoft.com and they work fine. Pages load quickly and all appears to be working as it should. However when i try to access sites such as google.com, yahoo.com or a number of other sites the browser just sits there and eventually times out giving me an error saying that the page is unavailable.
3.Gmail works fine and i can send and receive email without a problem
I have tried a series of cold boots and factory resets and still have the same problem. I tried creating a new google account and that didn't work either. I don't believe that its a problem with my router as i can connect fine from other devices including a nexus phone which has no issues with the playstore or accessing web sites.
I have made no mods whatsoever and this is a straight out of the box configuration plus the automatic firmware update. In settings it reports the android version as being 4.1.1 and the build number as JR003C.WW_epad-10.4.2.18-20121122
I've also tried clearing the cache from the apps settings and am running out of ideas fast !
PS: The only other thing that seemed odd is when i perform a a cold reset and select the RCK optioni just get the android robot error (red exclamation mark) I'm pretty new to all things android and wasn't sure if this was related to the problem or not
Any ideas would be appreciated as this is driving me crazy
Thanks

If that is a "stock" machine and you have not unlocked it etc then you should not have the dead android.
Contact Asus and get it swapped mate.
I have a BLU Studio Selfie 2 that came with Android 6.0 Marshmallow stock. I used a custom TWRP recovery (TWRP v3.0.2 for BLU Studio Selfie 2 - S230Q by Antonio Lopes "lopestom") to back up the phone, and then tried two more custom TWRP recovery versions (3.0.3 and 3.1, also by lopestom. I was beta testing the recoveries and providing feedback to the developer, and ran across a few minor problems (mostly due to my fiddling with things I probably shouldn't have). I installed SuperSU, and the phone is now rooted.
Long story short, I got to a point where I couldn't do much because two of the front screen touch buttons wouldn't work (Home and Recents), so I decided to start over with a factory reset. Here's where it gets weird. The first thing I found was that whether I was on data service (U.S. T-Mobile network) or WiFi, some internet connections worked, and some didn't. I was able to download and install apps from the Play Store, and I could still send SMS text using Google Hangouts. However, none of the three browser apps (Firefox, Chrome, Opera) could connect to any website. They would just time out. Also, I could still make and receive voice phone calls over the T-Mobile network. When I was on WiFi, I could ping the phone's IP address from a computer that was connected to the same wireless network.
After several hours of web searches, changing settings, and rebooting, I decided to reflash TWRP v3.0.2 and recover the first backup I did after rooting the phone. Everything had worked well at that time. Once I did so, everything came back the way it was then (all apps, settings, data, etc.), BUT I still had the same problem as above... no web page browsing, but Play Store and Hangouts worked flawlessly over data service or WiFi.
Then.... it gets even weirder. For some reason (based on a previous web result on fixing an unrelated issue), I decided to switch the phone from OWNER to a GUEST account, and found that I WAS ABLE to browse websites with Chrome, Firefox, and Opera. The other apps still had internet access as well. I then switched back to OWNER hoping that might have corrected something, but the internet problem is still there for web browsing.
Basically, everything works on the phone now EXCEPT for internet access using a web browser.
Any ideas/suggestions/questions?
About 8-10 months ago.....maybe a little longer, my wife and I purchased two LG K7 (LG-K330) on the Family Mobile plan (T-mobile). I have had zero problems with my phone. My wife on the other hand is having some bizarre problems and she's blaming me for them. Here is a small list of some of the problems:
1. Being blocked from websites that she has been to on several occasions.
2. When going to a website, she will get either redirected or a screen saying 404 Error and one that states she does not have permission.
3. On Facebook, she has lost the ability to access all of her settings. Her "Sharing" configuration has changed and she can't set it back. And she's saying that she doesn't have the same amount of access that she had previously.. She says that sometimes she can't access links in Facebook and when she tries it bounces her right back to where she was.
She has been poking around the phones files and she claims that there are very similar file on my laptop computer. Now she thinks I am trying to limit her access and phone usage. For all I know, she has deleted something that needs to be on the phone. My question is has anyone experienced something like this before and if so, is it repairable? One more note on this matter. This is the fourth phone that this has happened on. The others were Samsung's.
Any help would be greatly appreciated because I can finally prove to her that I'm not smart enough to "hack her phone.

That's a bizarre problem to be having. But have you tried factory resetting it? Back up important files like photos beforehand. This honestly sounds more like a problem with the network than the phone. Have you been using the network? Make sure your DNS is correct and that your network isn't being limited.

I swear it's her doing it somehow. It happens to every phone she has used. I have done several factory resets and it hasn't helped. She used our wi-fi connection at home ALL the time. I'll check out the DNS and see if it's being limited. But I would think that I would be having the same problem as I use the network a lot too.
Hey Billybobjoe, I have some additional information that might clarify the problem. She says she cant reach "https" sites, she can only see part of her Facebook page, the permissions are growing and sharing is a lot worse. She says she can't really get to a "real" website(it says something about "there is no cache for the page". She also states that she can no longer change her privacy settings on Facebook and that she thinks her phone is heavily connected to Russian social media websites.
Does this help in any way? Thanks in advance for all your help in this matter.
